I walked in with an 820 credit score, tier-one financing pre-approved, and cash ready to complete a straightforward deal. Before arriving, I ran my clean, well-maintained 2020 F-150 SuperCrew through Surprise Ford's own official website trade tool. Their system generated an appraisal range of $19,790 to $22,939, explicitly showing that local supply was down, and that dealer reconditioning was already deducted.
What followed was an absolute, textbook bait-and-switch.
The moment we sat down at the desk, the salesperson became visibly aggressive, was completely dismissive, and repeatedly talked over me whenever I spoke. Instead of having an honest, transparent conversation, they whipped out the archaic, manipulative four-square sheet game, attempting to shuffle numbers around, hide costs, and insult my intelligence.
After their own website promised nearly $20k to $23k, they hit me with an insulting, bottom-of-the-barrel $15,000 lowball on my trade. When I called them out on the massive discrepancy, the salesperson grew even more hostile, continued talking over me, and acted as though I should be grateful for their ridiculous offer.
I walked out the door.
To add even more insult, after I left, the salesperson sent me a snarky, condescending text explaining how I was wrong and he was right.
Within 48 hours, I took my business to a competitor in Scottsdale. There, the staff treated me with dignity, skipped the shady four-square games, gave me a fair trade value, and closed the deal in an hour.
Surprise Ford lost a guaranteed, qualified sale because of bad attitudes, predatory sales tactics, and sheer arrogance. Do yourself a favor, and buy somewhere else.
