Where do I even begin with this review? To start, this venue is simply dirty. The bathrooms were disgusting, and the entire place feels old and poorly maintained. It is obvious that more effort goes into the fancy lights hanging from the ballroom ceiling than into actually keeping the venue clean and presentable. I was also part of the wedding mentioned in another review, and both my husband and I became sick the next day after eating the Indian food served there. I had multiple people tell me they were also sick afterward. What makes it even worse is that several guests were too ill to attend the actual wedding ceremony the following day. A complaint was filed with the Alameda County Health Department, and the last I heard, they were investigating this restaurant. I was also told they were already familiar with this business because of previous complaints. Visited Chandni for a friend's wedding event ( a ceremony amongst many in a series of wedding events), and the experience was a mix of highs and lows. The banquet hall is absolutely humongous and very well put together. It's clearly designed to host large-scale events, and kudos to the team for creating a space that can comfortably accommodate big gatherings. The parking situation is excellent with a massive lot surrounding the venue, parking is never an issue, even for large events. That said, there were some notable drawbacks. Unfortunately, the food was very subpar, especially considering the scale and expectations of the event ( lot of variety but definitely not done well at all). The flavors lacked depth and didn't quite live up to what one would expect from a venue of this size and reputation. Additionally, the restrooms and the pathway leading to them were not very clean, which was disappointing and took away from the overall experience, particularly during a formal occasion. Chandni has the infrastructure and space to be an excellent event venue, but improvements in food quality and cleanliness would go a long way in elevating the overall experience. Please be warned; the lack of cleanliness at Chandni caused a plague of diarrhea for almost all in attendance. My husband and I were guests at a wedding here for a relative last weekend. We ate the Indian food prepared by chandni because by the time our table was called, there was only limited food options left to choose from. I was concerned about the food being in trays without any food warmers underneath. I work in healthcare, and I had concerns about how long the food was left out. I went against my better judgment and ate the food. Unfortunately, I paid the price. The next day, I had MAJOR diarrhea. The worst part is, I was not the only one. Almost all of the guests who attended suffered from diarrhea after eating the Indian food. We received phone calls from other relatives, other guests and friends who all said they suspect the chicken tikka masala was the culprit. It broke my heart because there were elderly people there in attendance who suffered from severe stomach pain and diarrhea. It was such a nightmare. To top it off, the bride called the manager to express her concerns and the manager was rude to her! So unprofessional and unacceptable! I had such a wonderful experience! I hosted my daughter's 1st birthday here with over 200+ people and Mohammed was so helpful and accommodating throughout the whole process! In the beginning, he helped me answer all my questions and had open communication with me the whole way through. The day of the event he and his team were phenomenal. Everything came out on time. The food was really good and the bartender was great. Mohammed was so generous enough to add a few items on the menu to accommodate my guests. He even threw in some things to make the venue extra special for us. I've never had a venue do that for us. He is a true blessing! The room the in event was held in had a beautiful aesthetic, however we did notice minor traces that a previous party was not cleaned up after completely (example: balloon string tied to a few chairs when no balloons were present for current event, cushion on chairs had red stains on them). Food was good in my opinion, however I have had better Indian cuisine. Bathroom- negative zero stars!!! Believe each and every one of the posts that tell you about the bathrooms. The women's bathroom had an overwhelming stench of sewer. The toilets and doors of EVERY stall were busted looking and had no seat covers in any of them. Water all on the floor. Just GROSS! Went there for dinner buffet at 8pm tonight. They charged us full price and turned out that they had very few items in the buffet menu. And out of those items half were empty. Brein bartender is awesome! He hooked it up on thanksgiving night. I was there for a co-workers party. He had rented the largest section of the restaurant which had a stage, dance floor and many tables. It's not a full bar but they had some whisky and vodka. Love open bar's I don't need a whole selection but I was happy with anything vodka. The only thing i've tried here was their chicken tikka masala with naan, hands down the best i've tried so far. I actually recommended this dish for our christmas party for work and it was a hit. Everyone loved it. My review goes to just that one dish. That means i'll be going back to try out more from their menu. This restaurant has a few sections that you can rent out for parties which I find really interesting and cool. We arranged eid party at chandni in the evening yesterday 21st April 2023. It seemed that they served the stale/ left over food from their buffet. Even the tea's color was changed. It seemed that it was made in the morning. Chicken tikka was dried due to being stale, curry made no sense for the eid dawat, qorma didn't taste like qorma at all no spices at all. First of all I called Chandani today to see if I could make a reservation and every time I called a guy would pick up not saying anything. As a person who understands and speaks Urdu/Hindi I could hear him having a conversation with someone else about a doctor and how that doctors so good and how he will pass on the contact info.. I mean seriously ??? How much more unprofessional can you get? He was completely ignoring the fact that there's a customer on the other line waiting for him. Anyways, after he realizes he got so many phone calls he called me himself saying "You called Chandani" in a very careless and once again unprofessional tone. I Literally called this place 6 times with two of them being cancelled because I kept calling and they would not pick up. Furthermore, after speaking with him and clearly letting him know that we were coming for iftar (breaking our fast) I see our food packed in Togo boxes and take the Togo boxes to the tables. He starts telling me " There's no service you have to do everything yourself". Keep in mind we are the only customers who are dining in from 7:50pm till almost 8:30pm. I asked him if he had water and any dates considering this is a Muslim restaurant and are fully aware that this is the month of Ramadan. For those who don't know what Ramadan is, Muslims who practice Ramadan do not eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset. When you break your fast you must break it with water or dates. When I asked him if he had any of those two items he starts to yell at me saying "YOU HAVE TO PAY YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING " . When did I say I was not going to pay? At this point I knew it was such a big mistake to choose chandani to bring my guests and family to. My guest wanted to order some more items however, the attitude this individual placed scared and made our guests extremely uncomfortable. Oh let me not forget to mention when we would ask him for coke or more bread he would shake his head from side to side and say , " I TOLD YOU THERES NO SERVICE NO SERVICE"... I spent $128 on food that wasn't even properly cooked and on top of that got treated like total crap! I have been to this restaurant when the owner himself is there and he is an extremely nice guy. It seems like these workers need to be micromanaged and take advantage of management not being around. The restaurant really needs to upgrade themselves. They don't give paper menus, nor have a code where you can scan and view items through your phone, heck if you go onto their website they have a Ramadan Buffet which does not even exist. When I spoke with him about that over the phone he said it's from 1-2 years ago. Overall we left the restaurant still hungry and decided to go to a near by restaurant called Fremont Kabob House. They have many dishes such as Vegetable Pakora, Vegetable Samosa, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Karahi Gosht, Tikka Masala, Nihari, Paya, Basmati rices, and plenty of curry delights. I've been here several times over the years as people in the community have hosted various kinds of events in this restaurant. With the many times that I've had dinner here, I think I can say a little bit as to the quality and taste of their food! Keep in mind that this means that I have no comment with regards to their prices. Some of my favorite items at this restaurant have been their goat biriyani and puri. The naan is pretty good, but the tandoori chicken is surprisingly hit-or-miss; there have been some occasions when they did it well and others where they missed the mark. There are several rooms for weddings here! Each room can cater to as many guest as you can dream of for weddings or any celebration! Came here several times for their lunch buffet. This was my first Pakistani food experience and I LOVED it. I usually don't like curry, I am very particular about it. No alerting taste buds, just happy taste buds! Since I'm south asian, I pretty much come here every other weekend for a wedding, fundraiser, grad party or just when my dad feels like having a decent desi buffet. I feel as though everyone knows the owners nieces, cousin's, uncle's, mother-in-law. No matter who you do or do not know, this is the go to place for weddings. They know what they are doing, the hall is nice, its slightly cliche and over done, but for good reason. The food is only OK, not the best, most authentic desi food I've ever had, but its familiar and has all the basics. No matter how much I resist it, chandni always ends up being a good time. The meat is halal so its another good reason to have your event here. The chow mein for the kids is slightly random, but hey, if it works! read more

Though I feel utterly disgusting right now for having just downed a couple of thousand calories (and that's a conservative estimate) at Chandni, I shouldn't really hold this against the restaurant. The food (I believe they only have a buffet, and probably serve the same stuff they do in the adjoining banquet hall) is all very tasty, though every last dish is extremely rich. This is definitely not a place to bring an intention to eat healthily. For about $12, the buffet spread constitutes about five veg curries, three meat curries (one each of beef, lamb, and chicken), tandoori chicken, a couple of desserts (kheer and gulab jamun), and chai. Fresh (and very soft) naan is brought to the table. Unfortunately, the quality of the meat is lacking. While the chicken in the curry appears to be decent, the tandoori chicken pieces are thighs and drumsticks, and pretty fatty. Likewise, the lamb and beef were were gristly and fatty when I was there. At the moment I'm forced to reevaluate my relationship with Indian buffets in general, as even the decent ones tempt gluttony and leave me feeling a little disgusted with myself. However, if Indian buffet is your thing I don't think you can go too far wrong with this place. read more

Chandni is not for everyone. If you are well versed in varieties of Indian food you may not appreciate the nuances here. Let me present the most memorable parts: Cleverly they manage to remove all flavor from the food. Even though in Newark you will delight to the same measly boring options you might in Indian restaurant outside Cleveland. Raita was tasteless. Chicken Tikka Masala had No flavor. Lamb biryani was dry, tasteless with dry tough meet. It was not ruined with any spices or flavor. While the dal was exceptionally dull, at least it was unusually greasy. Thankfully the tandor chicken was cold and dried out. They have no achar and laughed I had the gall to ask. They made up for it with a plate of raw white onions and lemon wedges. The pakora were cold and potato only -- I was worried it might be a variety Tamarind was suspiciously bright red and reminiscent of East Asian factory made sweet and sour. A real surprise. The naan was unremarkable but they go out of their way to spare you the delight of ghee. I had several glasses of water and they were good. The staff and service was very unobtrusive and made no distractions-- Simply vanished lest the sight of service annoy you. I will never forget my meal here. I came here for a wedding and really enjoyed the food and venue. The venue is spacious (easily fits 50 tables with 10 seats each) with several different rooms that open up to the main room. There is plenty of parking in the lot. The dance floor is colorful and lights up. The decoration includes curtains, table cloths of different colors to choose from and fabric on the ceiling. The chairs are a nice "bamboo" shaped wood chairs that are painted gold (rather than the white cloth covered kind). The food included tika masala, paneer, fried fish, chicken wings, yogurt sauces, gulab jamun, rasgulla, a vegetable dish (that looked like a giant paella), naan, basmati rice, salad, garbanzo beans in sauces and many more. Chandni catered my wedding and they were very professional from beginning to end. The food arrived on time with everything we asked and our guests absolutely loved the food! I am Fijian and my wife is Salvadorian and all of our guests thought everything was flavorful and delicious. We worked with Dean and he helped us through out the entire process. The fried puris did not taste good, like they had been fried in old cooking oil. Had a horrible stench. Several of the buffet items were less than warm due to sitting out fir a while. Since the place wasn't busy they just let them sit instead of replacing with fresh/warm items. Then when they were empty, had to wait a couple of times for them to refill some items. Kheer (rice pudding) was very runny, like soup. Staff is attentive and friendly. Multiple buffet stations have something for everyone, but again may not be fresh/hot depending on when you go.
