Decided to visit since the reviews sounded good. Needless to say my husband and I went to visit while on our vacation had some fried mackerel and BBQ beef. I can't believe that I was kicked out from a restaurant first time in my life. The waiter is a gay guy and as soon as we walked in the restaurant, he showed us with a poker face. We are the tourists and my boyfriend tried to start the conversation with this guy when we started to order food. My boyfriend asked if he's ok because he seemed not happy. This guy replied " you want to order food or not " and stared at my boyfriend. Then he said that my boyfriend was discriminate him because he's a gay guy, he didn't want to serve us and asked us to leave right away. This is so ridiculous. We respect the gay people and this guy is just too sensitive. We just came for lunch and had no intention to offend anyone. So we left the place and had lunch at the other restaurant. Place was packed and lots of to go orders called in. It was over an hour from the time we ordered until we got our food. The taste was ok but it was cold and not even some what cold, it was cold! Can't blame the daughter she was working as hard as she could. Owners you need more staff! An hour wait for cold food is enough for me not to return. read more

Best kimchee seafood soft tofu soup that I've ever had! I literally think about this dish! Great casual dining that we especially love to check out on rainy nights. Their pupus before the food are also very delicious every time. Small dining room, very cozy. My husband likes a variety of things off the menu. This place doesn't look very nice but the food is very good. Ordered the won tons to start with and they were very good. The sauce they serve with the wontons is awesome. I ordered the Bulgoki and asked them to make it spicy and they did a great job making it spicy. Good place to get your Korean fix. Had the Mix plate Kalbi and bbq pork. Sides was amazing, fried squid was delicious!! Service was very good. Small place doesn't look too appealing but food here is good. The blackbean noodles were okay but again too costly almost $14 for the quality and amount given. I give this place 4 stars. Excellent kalbi, fish jun, veggies, Korean chicken, soft rice, goid mandu, very nice servers. However, on the decor side: Ceiling coating is falling apart, dirty ceiling fans and dirty light fixtures, one loose fan above the entrance door, very dangerous. As with so many Asian restaurants, part of the dining area is used as a storage room. Not much of a decor, generic stick on nunbers for booth and table locations. For me, was affordable. The spicy pork is AMAZING. It's so delicious, it is swoon-worthy. Apparently it takes up a lot of space on their grill, so if your party places more than two orders of the spicy pork be prepared to wait a little extra for the following orders to be filled. After reading all of the wonderful reviews on yelp, we decided to go to Cham Cham for a late dinner. We arrived at around 8:15 on a Friday night and were the only patrons there. I should've taken this as a sign, but decided to order. There are pictures on the walls of both sides of the restaurant so diners who are unfamiliar can get an idea of what the items on the menu look like. We ordered meat jun, chicken katsu, kalbi, and spicy pork. The chicken katsu as well as the meat jun were excellent! What was disappointing was the spicy pork. We actually went there to try the spicy pork because of what we had heard about it. The pork was brought to our table and was burnt to a crisp. AND before we said anything, our server apologized for the burnt pork, but didn't do anything more about it. Why would they even try to serve it if they knew we wouldn't be able to eat it? For the prices that we were charged, it was an unfortunate experience and we won't be going back soon. read more

Stopped off in Hilo for business for less than 24 hours and happened upon this place with the help of Yelp. Found that it is hard to find good Korean food in a lot of places. Being half Korean, I am very picky about my Korean food. In most instances, I'd rather cook my own meals than have to endure the poor attempts on my ethnic food. This place look like a quant hole in the wall, but it is nice in a bare bones kinda way. Very clean and extremely friendly staff. If you are new to Korean food, they are kind enough to walk you through their menu and explain the dishes to you. I tried the two dishes shown in the picture section, the spicy squid and the mix with meat jun and spicy pork BBQ. Simply DELICIOUS !!! If I ever come back to Hilo from the mainland, I'll definitely come back for more on the menu. read more

Went for the bentos. While the food tastes good, this place is extremely stingy on the portions. 90 % of the meat bentos are filled with with rice. The vegetable bentos are ridiculously little portions - perhaps 1 ounce or 2 for each vegetable. They give you 6 selections. But for 6 to 8 ounces of vegetables, $6 is a price gouge! I do not recommend this place for any of their bentos. NOT a good value for the amount of food they provide. read more

Went Jan 2015 and wasn't going to write a review but though better of it to warn others. We ordered Spicy BBQ pork (3 orders) We sat down right away as there were not many patrons in the restaurant -- there were 4 of us. The girl took FOREVER to take our order. Then after we finally ordered, we know it can take a while to get it on the grill so we didn't mind the long wait. Waitress served us water without ice, it was tepid. When we finally got our pork, we noticed there was no spice on it. It was just plain kalbi-like sauce. So we told the waitress and she apparently knew about it because she quickly had some hot sauce in a bottle all ready to give it to us. She said, "Just squirt this on, same thing." Excuse me, but it's not the same as having spice sauce on the grill. It was a dirty unsanitary looking container -- see picture I downloaded -- and before we could say anything -- she walked away. The waitress never came back to offer more water or ask us anything. She only came back to give us the bill without saying a word to us. This is a shame because it used to be such a good restaurant. Maybe because it was during a LUNCH and not dinner time crew? Oh well, my 12 guests from Oregon, who we were planning to take there, will never set foot in that restaurant. read more

I just had the spicy BBQ chicken and even though it didn't look the best (I've seen better), it tasted really good. I didn't think that it would spicy but I did get the spicy burn in mouth. That was a good surprise since it wasn't red. The panchan (side dishes) need a little more flavor. The service was fast and friendly. read more
