Challenge recently completed a full repaving of the streets for our HOA. It was a long road from the initial bid until the completion of the project. From constant changes in scope and rebids to what seemed like never ending job walks to go over the job with the board members, Challenge stuck with us the entire time. Their crew was meticulous, clean, professional and very friendly. The foreman was very helpful and answered all of our questions about what to expect each day. The job site was left clean every evening. The project was scheduled for 5 days and they were able to finish it in 4 to which all the homeowners were very grateful. Rancho Granada Mobile Home Park owners and their managers, John and Arlene were kind enough to replace or resurface perhaps 2-3 dozen driveways. They hired Challenge to do the job which was accomplished in just over 3 days. They have a team of 9 very hard-working guys. 3 of them had Class A license to drive the two asphalt dump trucks. Everyone was busy most all the time. Their equipment is very good as is the work ethic; the men often working till 7PM of beyond. The quality was also excellent. I heard they charged the owners 45K, which to me was a bargain. Some of the mobile homeowners paid extra for extra pavement. I was happy to offer and pay $500 for expanded width and length driveway. Terrible communication. After planning and scheduling to have my driveway paved with asphalt at the end of the day only half the driveway was paved!. Why would i want only half the driveway paved!?!? Perfect example of a lack of common sense, bad communication, and terrible service. The logic of only paving half the driveway makes zero sense and whoever coordinated this project should be fired. read more

Cant give anything but a 2start review of these guys because they DO NOT FOLLOW UP or CALL YOU BACK. So how do they get a good review? You actually return calls and show up! I went with another company (Liberty) and was extremely happy with the results and the service. 99% of family businesses die in their third generation.This is the case with these guys. Challenge paved my driveway during the last phase of my house construction back in 2007. I kept saying I was going to replace the asphalt with stone or the likes. But here I am 14 years later and I still have it. It still looks incredible. No cracks, or holes. And yes, I have heavy traffic usage on my driveway, both cars, heavy trucks, and roll offs. After five months of digging out, the last part of this garden restoration in Montecito was the driveway. The landscape designer thought a gold colored gravel would look better than the grey pea gravel from before. She was right, the chip seal driveway compliments the colors in the house. And Challenge got this done with less than 24 hours notice. The job was completed in a half day and the owners moved back in a few days later. read more

Very Pleased with our new asphalt driveway installed two days ago. The crew was on time and left on time and gave it to instructions on maintenance the driveway is beautiful the edges are well trimmed and they did some extra blending in to the existing garage is which was a great improvement. I highly recommend this crew headed by Mike. They were gracious and friendly and did a wonderful job of cleanup after the job is done. We had Challenge repair and slurry the asphalt driveway, and the repair went as scheduled and seems OK. For that, I grudgingly give two stars vs. one. However, within a couple months, hundreds of feet of small cracks opened up, and weeds started sprouting though. Repeated calls to the office were taken by a pleasant receptionist who said someone would contact me. It never happened. Other contractors I've talked to in order to properly reseal the driveway say this is the way Challenge operates. I'd avoid this company. read more

Challenge Asphalt Paving company has really come through with service on our business driveway. Once Mike got in touch with me, he went beyond what I expected in standing behind his companies work. The failure of the slurry had to do with the supplier's product, not site preparation and application. Challenge Asphalt is doing the paving and slurry coating in my neighborhood. I called to get a bid on a slurry coat for my driveway at the same time they would be doing my street. Two plus months have elapsed and several phone calls to the company have netted zero results. Each time I was told that Mike had been given the message and would soon get back to me. Today they are slurry coating the street in front of my home I still have not heard from this Mike person. Very poor customer relations. read more

We needed to repave our long residential driveway. Got a few bids and Challenge had the best one, so we went with them. Scheduling the service was easy. We had a little hiccup in that the crew that did the work didn't do the entire area that Mike and I had discussed. I called to let him know and he had someone come out the next day to complete the job, so I was impressed with the response time. The job itself looks amazing. Wow, what an unbelievable experience I had with Challenge, getting the quote was smooth, trying to set up the schedule of work was difficult, the gentelman scheduling was not very helpful and was borderline rude, the actual work done was acceptable, except that areas of the slurry coat began to peel within 2 weeks of the installation, Challenge said they would come out and make the repairs....still have yet to be contacted about scheduling. BUT Mike from their office was happy to contact me and basically, yell, insult, be rude on the phone trying to collect payment. I was so absolutely taken aback at the rude, condescending, degrading words and tone of voice that Mike felt he could use with me regarding the payment of the bill, the invoice which I had only received the week before! Mike actually accused me of trying to "skip out on the payment" "give him the run around on the payment" said things like"let's cut this b.s. out" wow! All this at 8:45 am in the morning the week prior to Christmas! I told him from the get that the invoice had been sent to our financial manager and that she was on vacation and that the check would be mailed following her return, still not good enough for Mike! I can not believe that this company has any customers with this guy anywhere even close to communicating with customers, talk about abhorrent customer service! We won't even have Challenge back out to make repairs on the parking lot, Mike was so rude, I would rather pay another company to come out and do the work then have anyone from Challenge step food back onto our complex. read more
