We hired Genesis Stoneworks for a backyard remodel that was long overdue. Roger showed up for the estimate in the rain (I thought for sure he would reschedule) and gave us a quote that was very reasonable and affordable. He listened to the ideas we had for the design of the yard and gave some suggestions without being pushy. He met us at the store that sold the material and helped us choose the stone and color for the look we were trying to achieve. The work was done in a short amount of time without it being rushed through and in spite of the fact that we were newbie's at this and had ideas that didn't always work. We were so pleased with the end result that we immediately had the driveway and front walkway done as well as the area around the driveway pedestrian gate. Roger's reasonable price allowed us to complete that job as well and, like the backyard, was sorely needed. That job was also done in less than a week. Now, both areas look amazing and I can now relax since the sight of them no longer makes me crazy. Overall, Genesis Stoneworks was the right choice for us and we are very happy with the results. I recently used Genesis Stoneworks to add faux stone veneer accents around 3 windows in front of my house. Daniel gave me several samples to choose from to make the best match for my house. I am a Santa Barbara homeowner. I had two large jobs done for me by Genesis Stoneworks. The price, the design, the workers, the overall results -- in fact, everything about the jobs -- were extraordinary. I have a large backyard with a pool that had previously been paved with a thin layer of concrete by another company. (I was trying to save money at the time.) Over the years, the surface cracked and chipped, and it looked awful. It was time to redo the whole area but, this time, I wanted to do it right. It happened that, 26 years ago, I had my driveway redone with paving stones (also called pavers) and they worked wonderfully. The work had been done so well that, after 26 years, the driveway still looked new with no problems at all. I looked for a company to do the same type of paving for my backyard. I chose Genesis Stoneworks and I am satisfied for three reasons. First: price. Compared to the very large paving stone company that serves my area, Genesis came in with a significantly lower bid. Where the other company has a fake "discount" that they apply to their bid, Genesis' pricing is straightforward, honest, and easy to understand. Second: workmanship. The crew that worked on my jobs were well-organized and VERY skillful, not only at working with paving stones, but with drainage which is more important than you might think. Moreover, I could see that all the workers were happy. I know this sounds strange, but the workers were well managed and that they really liked working for Genesis, always a good sign. Finally -- and most important! -- I chose this company because of the services provided by Daniel Gradin, the Genesis representative. Daniel is a lot more than a sales rep: he is an experienced designer who knows more about paving and drainage than anyone I have ever met in my life, and all his services were offered at no extra price. Daniel (who actually draws on paper) spent a lot of time working on a design for me: measuring, drawing, and meeting my needs. When there were problems to overcome (you never know what you will find underground once you start to demolish), Daniel always knew exactly what to do. As well as replacing the old concrete with pavers, I also asked Daniel to redo the entire underground drainage for the backyard and to replace an old underground gas line for me. He designed the plans for these extra tasks which, needless to say, were carried out perfectly. (As it happened, within a few months, there were many days of heavy rain, and the new drainage worked perfectly). What surprised me was that, the price for all of this -- the demolishing, the brand new drainage, the new gas line, the paving, and all the materials -- was actually lower that the other company had bid for nothing more than replacing the concrete. After I saw how good the work was, I asked Daniel to design another job for me, to replace a walkway with bricks in the front of the house with pavers, which he did flawlessly. If you are thinking about paving stones, I suggest that you call Genesis Stoneworks and be sure to ask for Daniel Gradin. He is patient, experienced, and easy to work with, and you will end up with a superior result for a fair price. One final note. You will remember that the reason I decided to replace the existing thin concrete with paving stones was that they had worked so well on my driveway. I would like to provide my full assurance that a decision to proceed with any projects to be done by Mark and Genesis Stone Works would be a great decision.  We closed on our new construction home and it had no landscape at all. It was a dirt and a small slab for a porch leading from the patio doors. This was NOT going to work and we researched extensively for a contractor with experience, great reviews for customer service and reasonable pricing (as down payment, closing costs and moving just completed). I reached out to setup 3 appointments and Genesis was the first to respond and did so very professionally. After setting up all the appointments,  Mark made the time to accommodate our schedule best - within 2 days.  Mark was consultive and never sales driven. He listened, provided guidance of our options - even sharing ways to get same features we sought within budget. We chose to install Courtyard Tuscan Ashland  pavers and Imperial Fescue artificial turf. He promised to get our project moving quickly and gave us reasonable pricing and completion expectations. After selecting Genesis, he remained attentive and kept us aware of progress. He was even able to move up our appointment for installation over a week!  The crew from Genesis worked diligently, were very respectful to our neighbors and did exceptional work. The craftsmanship, attention to detail and results FAR exceeded our expectations! Multiple people from the community came by to see the work as it was being done and after - all were impressed. One neighbor was disappointed because he recently had a similar project done by another contractor with lesser results and paid more (unfortunate for him).  Every aspect of this project was perfect - consultation, installation, results and even pricing. I attached some pictures of the before, during and after to give an idea of project scope and workmanship.  I would ONLY call Mark and Genesis for my next external contracting work in future. He was able to understand exactly what I was looking for, draw it out, and discuss pricing/ make adjustments for cost as needed. I truly appreciated that approach compared to the salesman approach of many of the other GC or paver companies I dealt with. I never felt pressured into anything at any step of the way. Fernando and his crew were the ones who did the actual install and I really enjoyed working with him too. This man really knows his craft and I loved being able to bounce ideas off of him. I really liked his laid back approach to things as well. Making sure that I was aware of the issues with some of my proposed ideas and recommending alternatives. Scheduled an appointment for a consultation for my backyard weeks in advanced but was cancelled 2 hours before appointment. The stated reason was that Gary needed to attend a party so he will not be able to attend. This company is very unprofessional. Why would you have someone take tIme out of work to book an appointment to only cancel 2 hours before for a party. At least offer some sort of respect for the customer's time and cancel a day before or just don't mention it's not a cancellation due to a party. They are very unreliable and I am glad I will not be going with them. I will gladly take my $40k to spend elsewhere. read more

This review is long overdue, as we had Genesis do our work a few months ago. With water restrictions and such, we decided to redo our front yard. That would ultimately entail removing existing hardscape (3 car driveway and walkways on both sides) and install pavers instead. Existing grass would also be removed. Our goal was to reduce our grass footprint and add some additional masonry features to cut down or change our watering areas. Along with replacing concrete and flagstone (with pavers), we also knew that we would have to have our front yard drains redone, as root intrusion had caused issues in existing drains. That's the snapshot of what we wanted. We called Genesis, set up an appointment for an estimate, and we ultimately were met by Daniel Gradin. In all of our contacts with him prior to meeting, he was prompt, courteous, and professional. Daniel came to our home, listened to our ideas, and he offered up some very nice design ideas. In our first meeting, we actually came up with a plan that we were happy with, but we expected that Daniel would leave and then give us numbers down the road. That wasn't the case. Daniel spent a LONG time at our home, did a scale drawing, and gave us an estimate the same day we met with him. I was impressed. With Daniel's ideas, professionalism, and how he worked with us, we went with Genesis without worrying about getting other estimates. We'd seen other reviews on how their pricing sits, but price (at the end of the day) wasn't the sole determining factor for us. Perhaps you've been there, but after sitting with Daniel for a couple of hours, we were pretty satisfied that we wanted to use Genesis. As a side note, we did have another company's estimator come out a few day's before Genesis did, but that rep never produced an estimate for us. After meeting with Daniel, we weren't going to chase that guy down. So, the contract was signed, we were put on the schedule, and we waited a couple short weeks before the work was started. Communication about the start for our project was outstanding, and we knew where we stood and when work would begin. I'm not going to go into every single "issue" (wrong word) as it relates to our job. We made some changes, some additional work was needed (tree roots), but everything was above board with this company. Once they started on things, they were efficient and professional. In the interest of saving space and sparing details, all I will say is this. At the end of the day, we are totally happy with the paver work that Genesis did for us. I don't know if we are done with remodeling in our back yard, but should pavers become part of that equation, we'll be contacting Genesis again. read more

First call was 3 weeks ago, second call was a week ago.The second time I was upgraded to, "Second Request", which meant estimator Fernando would be in touch with me quickly. A week later, guess what? You shouldn't have to beg a company to bid on a job, especially one that has so many crappy reviews. Very attentive during the quoting and job. Unfortunately, after nine months, the "grout" between the "Slaton-random" pavers began disintegrating. Our salesman referred us to their crew chief Ruben. He had me send pictures, agreed to come back, but now 10 months have gone by and he does not reply to my occasional texts/calls. The salesman then referred me to Maria. I spoke with Maria and sent her pics on Feb 1st as well. She apologized and said that Ruben is so busy, but she'd reach out to him. Still no word. I judge a company by how they care for their customers after they have their money. Unfortunately Genesis Stone doesn't rate high. Very disappointed that I have had to spend so much time & energy trying to get a minor repair accomplished. read more

We had several bids for installing interlocking pavers to replace cracked concrete at our home. Daniel Gradin, a designer with the company, estimated the job and did detailed drawings with measurements to insure we were happy with the plan and kept in touch during the project. He helped us design and implement a very complicated pool deck with coping, as well as side patios and a front driveway that wraps around a fountain. They also built us a large shade structure on the site. It was a pleasure to work with Stoneworks (Rubin too) and their sub contractors who followed through efficiently and kindly, and did a beautiful job. High marks! read more

I received a quote to fix a retaining wall prior to selling my home. Then...... "the owner" didn't honor the quote because he said the "homeowner" did not disclose the proximity of the wall to the pool. Well, his salesman came to my house, stood in my backyard, stood by the pool looking over the wall, measured the entire wall from below, discussed the palms near the pool, and then as he left suggested I do the pool decking as my next project. Where did I not disclose?? Bad business when you blame the customer for your mistake or bad bid. I say beware!! read more

I felt we got a good price and the workmanship was very good. Unfortunately, there are always problems with contractors. We got our pavers from Olsen and there was a miscommunication between Olsen (who makes the pavers out on Ortega Hwy) and Genesis. They tore up my walkways before the salesman called ME to tell them to quit. They had ordered the wrong pavers so Olsen had to manufacture the correct ones and that took 3 weeks...with no walkways at my house. I actually went to the factory to verify what the Genesis salesman had told me was correct. The gal there said it takes 2 weeks minimum just for the pavers to cure so 3 weeks was the bare minimum...which they made to the day. In addition, I specifically mentioned to the salesman while we were at the Olsen factory that I wanted more dark stones along the borders to enhance the borders. The Olsen sales girl told him to just order more of the dark stones and he wrote this down. When the installers arrived, I told them about the need for a darker border but the foreman stated that they just install what arrives on the pallets and no extra dark pavers were ordered. Despite the fact that they didn't do what I had told them to do, the job still looks good. Since I had to live with no walkways for 3 weeks and the salesman offered to give me a price break, I asked that 6-10 extra square feet be added. The salesman later claimed he didn't remember this and said I should give the installers some extra money...I told him that HE should do that. Originally, they were supposed to install a sprinkler system since the pipes had to run under the driveway they would tear up. It became apparent that they intended on using all of the old pipes and system despite my repeated declarations that I wanted a new system because the old system didn't work. Since I lost confidence in them doing what I wanted, I gave them option of just dropping the sprinkler system and they took it. The installers (who spoke little English) did fix the edges of my driveway to garage transition which were a bit bunged up either during the demo of the driveway or possibly was already there, I don't remember (it was very minor cosmetic damage. I was a bit peeved that they left an entire pallet of pavers sitting in the street taking up a parking spot (for 12 days after completion of the installation) but they eventually, after several calls, picked them up. Even though the job wasn't exactly as I wanted (regarding the border and sprinklers), they did a good job and I am not unhappy (thus far) with the job they did. I think with some better communication, this could have been a superb experience and a 5 star rating. read more

After meeting with Chad , I felt that he knew his business and was detailed on the design. We are so happy with our new driveway. Everything from the free consultation to the estimate and especially the work team on the day of was just great! I couldn't believe how efficient the team of 5 (and sometimes 6) was on our driveway and they worked so hard all day and transformed our cracked driveway to something beautiful.
