Don't waste your time. We scheduled Miguel for an estimate for a driveway replacement based on his Yelp reviews. He came to our house, spent about 30-45 minutes going over what was needed and taking measurements and pictures, and then NOTHING. He never sent us a bid. We've called and texted numerous times and no response, no bid. He completely wasted our time and has held up our project while we waited for his bid. I don't often give Yelp reviews but Miguel is by far the best contractor I've had the pleasure of working with so I feel like I have to. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable and skilled at his craft but he is not pushy and doesn't give you the hard sell like just about every other contractor I've dealt with. He came to give a bid on my new driveway, explained his process, and pointed out why he would use different gravel than what was left out from another concrete job I'd recently had done. The pictures on his Instagram, the reviews here, and his general vibe made me go with him. He called me later while preparing the contract and said he'd had an idea on how to save me some money. He'd done the math and figured out a way to make my drainage work without having to install a channel drain we'd talked about. He saved me $4k! He went through the contract with me to make sure I understood everything before signing and when work started he and his guys showed up on time, were professional, and did a great job. I put in a couple of change orders and he always gave me a fair price. On concrete pour day, the attention to detail and care he put into his work was evident. We were unlucky to have some high winds on our pour day which led to some leaves getting on the freshly poured concrete and when he noticed some holes in the concrete the next day he immediately offered to come by later and fill the holes. I received an estimate from Miguel, but I ultimately decided on another contractor. My reasons were not related to Miguel's bid or to my belief that he could an excelent job. After making my decision, I soon realized I hadn't done enough homework, and that there were many things about concrete work that I hadn't considered that could significantly affect cost and aesthetics. I decided to call Miguel, and even though he knew I was not able to change contractors, he took the time to explain the different options I needed to understand. It was important for me to have an objective opinion, and I felt that Miguel gave me that. He even gave me his pricing options, which were consistent with what I had learned from other contractors. I never felt that he was trying to get me to reconsider my choice, just genuinely giving me an objective opinion, allowing me to weigh pluses and minuses. Miguel returned my call promptly and scheduled a meeting. He came to our new home and we walked the empty back yard and side yards and discussed my design and goals. Based on other contractors I had met, I knew within a few minutes of Miguel discussing how he would do the project that he knew exactly what he was doing and knew how to make this very custom. He prepared an estimate and then visited again to discuss the proposal. We agreed to some changes, and Miguel presented some very good ideas on how to make the project better. He then revised the estimate and visited again to go over the final estimate and to move forward. We signed the contract and Miguel go us on the schedule. Work began. From establishing proper grade and drainage, to forming, to pouring, and to finishing, Miguel and team were top notch. They arrived as scheduled, were very clean (put plastic sheeting on all areas adjacent to the work area), worked hard, worked efficiently, and worked accurately. These guys really took pride and care in their work. Our project consisted of approx. 30 yards of concrete. MAD made us a 2-step cantilevered fire pit area, a smooth-finished fire pit, a 1-step cantilevered hot tub pad, approx. 50 various-sized rectangular pavers, approx. 50 uniquely shaped polygon pavers, a concrete walkway to store our garbage cans and house a small storage shed, and two concrete pads for very large pots to hold plants. Bottom line: few people get excited spending tens of thousands of dollars on yard work; however, I could not be happier with the entire process and final product. I gladly paid Miguel each payment because the work was so outstanding. I have designed and completed many yards in the previous homes I have owned, and this project with MAD was the biggest, most challenging, and most satisfying. We are working on a project with our greenhouse, and after interviewing 6 people ranging from general contractors to supposed concrete specialists, MAD Concrete stood out, BEYOND! Upon meeting Miguel, we explained to him up front that we'd been getting conflicting information on the process to pour a slab for our greenhouse. He really listened to what our plans were for the space and explained the HOW and WHY it's important to do things the right way, based on what we were looking for. We had already gotten a general idea about materials and specs...but he educated us even further, with RESPECT and without a condescending attitude (which I've had to deal with countless times, as a woman, in the few years we've been remodeling). We found Miguel to be striaght forward, honest and true to his word. His contract was thorough and he took the time to go over it with us, IN PERSON. Again, a RARE find among contractors... many are annoyed with the contract process and feel texting a quote or doing one verbally is sufficient.... yeah, thanks, but no thanks. Now the actual work: The owner DOES THE WORK HIMSELF and shows up ON TIME with his guys. I mean, isn't THAT refreshing!? They all were very polite and always had a smile (even on the AM our alarm didn't go off, and they had to wait at our gate for 20 mins to let them in!) Many workers generally scatter when you interact or check on how the work is going... not these guys. They were very respectful and down to earth. This is very important to us as we cherish our home and take a lot of pride in our property. We also really appreciated Miguel answering any questions we had about the process in general. After 48 years of sun and rain, the top of my stucco courtyard wall had deteriorates, and the wood trim rotted. I started repairs myself, but the project kept morphing and becoming more complicated. I have been planning a backyard project for well over a year, and finally was ready to begin. I had reached out and got a couple bids, and then called Miguel at MAD Concrete. He came out, we spoke about the project, and he submitted his bid. While here, he asked many great questions the others did not, and came in the with a fair bid. It was the price and his questions that had me signing on the dotted line. His team began and the schedule he had planned was followed and he worked very well with two other tradesmen that were working the same project. His crew of 4, along with himself got the job done according to the timeline...2 weeks. The setup, the daily work, and then eventual cleanup were be far, phenomenal. Everyone was friendly and polite, they were careful and respectful throughout, and I could not have asked for it to have gone better. We even made some changes during the project, and this could have increased the timeline, or Miguel might have objected, but he and his team made my dreams of this backyard space a reality. While I still have patio covering to do and landscaping, it is well on its way to being EPIC! MAD concrete is probably one of the best places I've ever used to do work on our home. The owner is so friendly, communicative and open to conversation about your project - I never felt so respected and informed about a project from start to finish. They will never force you into doing something you don't want to do, will work with you to achieve the best outcome and the finished work is beautiful A lot of people will come and try to convince you your way isnt good or modern or something but MAD will tell you what will work and why it has to work that way to be done right and still work within your vision (but they also are concrete artists so to speak so you can trust them with design too!) They have such a good eye for things ! I don't have any photos on my phone to post at the moment but their Instagram has our house on it so I recommend checking out their project photos there - and the consultation is friendly and quick so def at the very least talk to them. First meeting Miguel, he was very professional and explained step by step what they were going to do and what materials that will be used. He was very knowledgeable and went out of his way when a delivery person accidentally stepped on the concrete. It was already almost 9pm, he came back to fix it. We also had vegetation in the way of the job and he was able to have to removed by one of his referrals.
