The location and the interior is nice. The food, however, was bad. We ordered nachos and the FGT grilled cheese with fries. The fries were cold, limp, and soggy when they arrived. The sandwich was weirdly sweet, and also soggy because the bread appeared less toasted and more soaked-in-butter. Less than half of it was eaten. The nachos were okay, but also really greasy. I always try to visit Chadwicks when I'm in Old Town Alexandria. They've got a great menu, and a great bar. Lots of local brews on tap. On this occasion, I went on a Tuesday night with friends. We sat in the bar and just happen to get there in time for happy hour. The happy hour menu was great, and the selection of food you can order at the bar is very good too. We just stayed there and ate. You have to order from the bar, directly, but that's no big deal. The service was quick and the food was good! read more

Our appetizer came which was the crab dip with the pita. The crab dip was watery (yes, watery--see photo) and the pita chips were fried, greasy and hard. We barely touched it. We waited 30 minutes for the entree which thankfully was good. Our waiter never asked if we liked our food, why we didn't eat the appetizer, etc.. They were NOT real smoked ribs that fall off the bone. More so like oven baked ribs with sauce thrown on. I mean the ribs weren't bad per se just not as tender as other establishments or smoked. The fries needed some salt. The buttermilk chicken was delish! Fried well not hard. Good flavor. Decent size piece. The day before the dining, I got a notification that the reservation was moved. I wish they had changed the reservation on the same day/next day after I made the reservation so I could have planned accordingly. I asked for bacon on the side so my cousin can eat it. I also drank a kick ass Margarita on the rocks with lime. My cousin ordered her fave, club sandwich piled high with turkey, bacon and ham and a side order of delicious cole slaw. The slaw was so delicious and creamy I ordered a side as well. She drank two glasses of rose. You can always tell a place is great when it's packed! Patrons were dining on great food, laughing and enjoying the experience. We were headed to our car parked in a lot off of King St. by the water front and stumbled upon this restaurant. The bar was packed and music playing so, we decided to stop by and grab a drink as they closed at 2am! Chadwicks has a huge downstairs bar as well as a another bar upstairs! The downstairs bar was packed! Music was blaring! We couldn't tell if there was a dj or if they had a sound system. Either way it was a fun party/bar atmosphere. We got there around 11pm but, we were able to find a seat at the bar upstairs wkth no problem. They do have additional booth seating upstairs and downstairs so, there is plenty of seating outside of the bar areas. Eventhough it was crowded we were greeted by the bar tenders almost immediately. Service was quick and they were very attentive. We didn't eat any food but, the menu looked pretty good and prices were decent. The atmosphere was fun and the crowd was a mixture of all ages! We were a party of 5, and all members of the party have to be present to be seated. They fill the mimosas about 80% of the cup but for $5 really can't complain only observe. My Bloody Mary drink was amazing and also just $5! The brunch portions are sizable for brunch -- friends got fried chicken salads and I got the huevos rancheros. You feel full but don't feel stuffed. The key lime pie dessert was good but if you're looking for amazing key lime pie, this isn't the place for it, check out Stanford Grill in Columbia MD. The only thing that stood out to me as negative was that when I made the call the person on the phone said that they don't do a reservation for 4, which was our original group. I said what number in a party do you do reservations for, and she said 5. I said OK, then we'll add a person to our group. The first time I had been to Chadwicks was when I first moved here in 2009. I don't remember what I ordered. I just remember it was good. I am so happy that they are participating in Restaurant Week. It has given me the opportunity to go back there and try some of their dishes. The Onion Soup was delicious. I would definitely order that again. The cheese and croutons complimented the soup and also added texture. For my main entree, I ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs. They were so tender that I didn't even need a knife. Everything was seasoned perfectly. This entree actually tasted like something I made and now I know where to get it if I don't feel like cooking!! The Apple Cranberry Cobbler had that perfect balance of sweet and tart. It rounded out the meal perfectly. I would also order this from the menu again. I was pleased that they had curbside pickup. Had a lovely brunch with 5 people! Brunch prices, specifically mimosas, was what drew us in. Excellent location, so close to the water you can sit and digest or go for a stroll after. We were seated upstairs, with an airy atmosphere and beautiful wood finishing. Staff was very straight forward about being short staffed and needing to push pack our reservation by 30 minutes (called me 2x, making sure they got in touch with me before I arrived, did more than just leave a voicemail and were extra kid when we arrived). Only downside of the lower staff was empty water cups, having to waive down staff for drink refills. Food was delicious!! We left with all plates cleared. All eggs were served over medium/hard, opposed to the over easy as advertised. Everything else was well cooked and well seasoned.
