We were disappointed that Yelp said it was open at 10am when it wasn't open until 11am on Friday. However, we were promptly seated at 11am in the picturesque atrium. On one side, you could even look out to the waters. Even more than the atmosphere and friendly service, we were both impressed with their brunch menu. My husband ordered the eggs benedict- eggs were poached to perfection. And the potatoes made for a great serving size. I ordered the brunch tacos and it was so very flavorful especially with the guacamole, onions, and sour cream. A crunchy piece of bacon with each bite! The shrimp tacos were delicious , fried green tomatoes with a bacon jam so sinfully delicious. The cider on draft was really crisp and not overly sweet. Chadwick's is one of my faves in Old Town Alexandria. They're open late, for my spontaneous cravings for good music and a late night snack. Had lunch here it was ok at best. The service was great, friendly staff, very kind and quick. The food not so much. Ordered the fried green tomatoes it was a bit hard to taste them because the jalapeño sauce was a bit much as they were drenched in them. The bacon jam was actually good, but I would think that the sauces would've come on the side, especially for a food that has a delicate taste. The crab dip, as a native Washingtonian / Marylander who has been eating crab my entire life. I would say I know good crab from miles away. It was very seasoned and the lemon was so overwhelming. I could not taste any crab. It tasted like Cajun lemon sauce. The fried chicken was actually really good, we usually don't like the breast, but it was actually very flavorful and well cooked. After "Ride the Cyclone" at Arena Stage (and I hope you get to see it, too!), our King Street choices all had closed kitchens - yikes But one of the hostesses there said "Go to Chadwicks ... and then come back for the band." The location and the interior is nice. The food, however, was bad. We ordered nachos and the FGT grilled cheese with fries. The fries were cold, limp, and soggy when they arrived. The sandwich was weirdly sweet, and also soggy because the bread appeared less toasted and more soaked-in-butter. Less than half of it was eaten. The nachos were okay, but also really greasy. I always try to visit Chadwicks when I'm in Old Town Alexandria. They've got a great menu, and a great bar. Lots of local brews on tap. On this occasion, I went on a Tuesday night with friends. We sat in the bar and just happen to get there in time for happy hour. The happy hour menu was great, and the selection of food you can order at the bar is very good too. We just stayed there and ate. You have to order from the bar, directly, but that's no big deal. The service was quick and the food was good! read more

Appetizer. Spicy egg rolls. Seemed like everybody orders these. Nice big egg rolls. I would give them 7/10. I did enjoy the egg roll. Different for me to have chicken in it. Stayed together nicely..lots of chicken pieces, lots of cabbage. And yes, it issss spicy lol. Use that sweet sauce!! Ordered the ribs with fries (because everyone said they were to die for) and ordered the buttermilk chicken with Mac and cheese. The ribs were NOT to die for. They were NOT real smoked ribs that fall off the bone. More so like oven baked ribs with sauce thrown on. I mean the ribs weren't bad per se just not as tender as other establishments or smoked. The fries needed some salt. The buttermilk chicken was delish! Fried well not hard. Good flavor. Decent size piece. The Mac and cheese was a really small side and it was like kraft out of the box Mac n cheese. Not my fav. Desserts. Had the apple pie and blondie. The good: The blackened salmon BLT was delicious and came with real mashed potatoes. The bad: almost everything else. We waited almost 15 minutes for a waiter. Our appetizer came which was the crab dip with the pita. The crab dip was watery (yes, watery--see photo) and the pita chips were fried, greasy and hard. We barely touched it. We waited 30 minutes for the entree which thankfully was good. Our waiter never asked if we liked our food, why we didn't eat the appetizer, etc.. The day before the dining, I got a notification that the reservation was moved. I wish they had changed the reservation on the same day/next day after I made the reservation so I could have planned accordingly. Other than the mishap for the reservation, the service was nice and the restaurant was clean. Food: Chicken Francois (Buttermilk fried chicken breast, French toast, cinnamon butter, maple syrup) - So Good! I could not be more happy with my decision to get this dish for my meal! They serve the chicken on the side so that your food does not touch! The chicken was salty and crispy and the french toast was soft and sweet. My husband ordered the homefries and the bacon and egg sandwich. He said it was good but not great. I will say that I tried the homefries and they were BOMB. They had peppers and onions so it added a ton of flavor. The service was quick and kind, our waiter was very sweet. As far as the ambiance, I can't say much. Coming in on a Saturday night at 9 we were seated right away and the service throughout the night was awesome. We are in a dining area that was separate from the tavern and appeared to have been an alleyway before it was acquired and renovated for dining. Kind of cozy, I could imagine lady and the tramp eating in this very spot but I saw no historical marker stating such. My food was so good, I forgot to taste it er... Want to know why Chadwick's has been the best hangout for over forty years in Old Town? Is it the food? Location? Service? How about YES to all of the above! Cousin and I visited Alexandria for the day and of course decided to dine in the waterfront area. We decided on Chadwick's.. and boy did we make the right choice! Chadwick's has my kind of vibe on a cool fall day.. rustic brick walls, long bar and cozy lighting. The menu offers something for everyone: hamburgers, eggs, fried chicken and so much more in delicious comfort food. I was in a breakfast mood @ noon this I opted for the brunch tacos; 3 yummalicious scrambled egg tacos with plenty of fixings: sour cream, guacamole, bacon tomatoes and onions and of course melted Jack cheese. I asked for bacon on the side so my cousin can eat it. I also drank a kick ass Margarita on the rocks with lime. My cousin ordered her fave, club sandwich piled high with turkey, bacon and ham and a side order of delicious cole slaw. The slaw was so delicious and creamy I ordered a side as well. She drank two glasses of rose. You can always tell a place is great when it's packed! Patrons were dining on great food, laughing and enjoying the experience. Trae, the owner, visited all tables and genuinely asked if diners were enjoying their meals. I complimented him for the great food and service! What a great guy! We were headed to our car parked in a lot off of King St. by the water front and stumbled upon this restaurant. The bar was packed and music playing so, we decided to stop by and grab a drink as they closed at 2am! Chadwicks has a huge downstairs bar as well as a another bar upstairs! The downstairs bar was packed! Music was blaring! We couldn't tell if there was a dj or if they had a sound system. Either way it was a fun party/bar atmosphere. We got there around 11pm but, we were able to find a seat at the bar upstairs wkth no problem. They do have additional booth seating upstairs and downstairs so, there is plenty of seating outside of the bar areas. Eventhough it was crowded we were greeted by the bar tenders almost immediately. Service was quick and they were very attentive. We didn't eat any food but, the menu looked pretty good and prices were decent. The atmosphere was fun and the crowd was a mixture of all ages! We were a party of 5, and all members of the party have to be present to be seated. They fill the mimosas about 80% of the cup but for $5 really can't complain only observe. My Bloody Mary drink was amazing and also just $5! The brunch portions are sizable for brunch -- friends got fried chicken salads and I got the huevos rancheros. You feel full but don't feel stuffed. The key lime pie dessert was good but if you're looking for amazing key lime pie, this isn't the place for it, check out Stanford Grill in Columbia MD. The only thing that stood out to me as negative was that when I made the call the person on the phone said that they don't do a reservation for 4, which was our original group. I said what number in a party do you do reservations for, and she said 5. I said OK, then we'll add a person to our group. She says, "Are you really gonna have 5 or just saying that for this reservation?" I was floored. How rude. The first time I had been to Chadwicks was when I first moved here in 2009. I don't remember what I ordered. I just remember it was good. I am so happy that they are participating in Restaurant Week. It has given me the opportunity to go back there and try some of their dishes. The Onion Soup was delicious. I would definitely order that again. The cheese and croutons complimented the soup and also added texture. For my main entree, I ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs. They were so tender that I didn't even need a knife. Everything was seasoned perfectly. This entree actually tasted like something I made and now I know where to get it if I don't feel like cooking!! The Apple Cranberry Cobbler had that perfect balance of sweet and tart. It rounded out the meal perfectly. I would also order this from the menu again. I was pleased that they had curbside pickup. Being a high risk individual ordering food to go is the only way I can "eat out". This experience has been so wonderful that I am not going to wait years before I place an order again. read more

I was losing on 2 fronts. Yes I was by myself and not a regular - couldn't tell which one seemed to annoy the bartender more - but it was striking how warm she was to those patrons coupled and with the menu memorized. I sat for 10 minutes at the steady but not crowded bar at 11am awaiting service - when she finally acknowledged my existence she asked what can she get me - I asked for a menu - which seemed to be the wrong answer. After finishing my heavily vermouthed Negroni and waiting the preferred-coupled-and-regular faces she finally served me. I'm sitting here wondering why she has predetermined my status though I've lived here for 11 yrs. - also she came around and gave folks crosswords and completely glazed over me - though I love puzzles, made space for it I. Front of me, got excited as a puzzle queen, and then was quickly deflated as apparently I'm an outsider. Had a lovely brunch with 5 people! Brunch prices, specifically mimosas, was what drew us in. Excellent location, so close to the water you can sit and digest or go for a stroll after. We were seated upstairs, with an airy atmosphere and beautiful wood finishing. Staff was very straight forward about being short staffed and needing to push pack our reservation by 30 minutes (called me 2x, making sure they got in touch with me before I arrived, did more than just leave a voicemail and were extra kid when we arrived). Only downside of the lower staff was empty water cups, having to waive down staff for drink refills. Food was delicious!! We left with all plates cleared. All eggs were served over medium/hard, opposed to the over easy as advertised. Everything else was well cooked and well seasoned. I might look elsewhere for brunch first, but would happily return for lunch or dinner. read more
