Dropped off the wife to get her hair done for the wedding. Nice little hole in the wall , place was clean, staff was nice, even the owners can to see how the food was. Me and my dad both had burgers. Wow, had to be one of the best burgers I had I a long time. Bun was toasted, handmade patty was juicy. Was just enough for lunch. read more

We found this restaurant when searching for a breakfast place near the car dealership. We asked the sales guy if he heard of Chacona's Restaurant. He said he highly recommended it. We went in and the place seemed nice family restaurant. Service was excellent and so was the food. Especially the French toast. Prices were reasonable. read more

This place can't be beat for breakfast and lunch fare. Today I tried their corned beef hash, and it is spectacular!! This is not the stuff out of the can. Oh no! It's made with chunks of corned beef, freshly cooked American fries, onions, green and red peppers. Served with choice of eggs and toast. Just fantastic! My husband had their chacona dogs (a very nicely made chili dog). They are famous for their hotdogs. These are split and grilled on their grill, their buns are warmed with an infrared warmer prior to putting the dogs into them. They add mustard, chili sauce (lightly) and onions. Excellent for those who like hot dogs or chili dogs. Decor is mid century modern, for the most part. They have counter and booth service. Desert sounded very good, especially the coconut creme pie, but I passed on it this time. Oh, and they make homemade shakes & ice cream sodas. If you're in the downtown Sayre area, I highly recommend that you check out Chaconas. Highly recommend! read more

Homemade hash for me was the best I've had in a long time. Service was fast and friendly for us out of towners. Somehow the staff acted like we had been here a hundred times before. This is an old historical landmark of Sayre, once owned by the mayor and run by a number of important townspeople this has been the meeting place for the city for generations. An honest 'greasy' spoon is what you get, basic hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade soups. All made to order right in front of you, with a great slice of Americana. Good stuff. read more

Husband and I went to Chacona's one weekday for breakfast. The service was absolutely atrocious as the woman that served us barely acknowledged our existence! She gave us our drinks, each one fork (as if we were children), and two napkins (normally not a problem but I ordered a messy entree). We were left to search for knives, ketchup, more napkins, and other condiments that were forgotten. The waitress stood at the last counter talking to another customer, eying us as we searched for our missing items, yet not asking if we needed anything. If the food was good we could have forgiven the terrible service but alas, this was not the case. I ordered the sausage gravy with biscuits (a southern staple that I *thought* would be hard to mess up), and my husband ordered two classic "Chacona dogs" with their famous meat sauce and a bowl of their homemade soup. My meal was INCREDIBLY salty. I put "incredibly" in CAPS to emphasize just how truly off-base the entree was. There really are no words to explain how something could be so salty, yet so bland at the same time. Just a real mess. My husband was unimpressed with the "famous" meat sauce that came on the hot dogs. I took a taste for myself and the only way I can truly explain the taste: greasy. The meat was accompanied by an overpowering grease that left a gritty taste in your mouth. The soup was okay, but it seemed as though they were just trying to get rid of the leftovers from the previous week. Just way too many things going on for one soup. We decided to come back the next night to give it another fair shot, but again we were treated as though we were an annoyance, and served the most mundane burgers we have ever had in our life. When you're craving Wendy's in the middle of a meal it's not a good sign. If I could give this restaurant 0/5 stars I would. If both the service and food were to make a complete turnaround, I still would not come back. The atmosphere is chaotic and disheveled: pictures of I Love Lucy, how the town looked in the old days, a television above the milkshake station. Too much to list, really. Oh my goodness. What a little jewel this place is. Very retro. Our waitress was phenomenal, super sweet and attentive though she was running the front by herself. The food was good, but get rid of the canned tomatoes in the omelettes, please. Very good home fries and prices are extremely reasonable. read more

This is a super chill, very friendly place to have a cozy meal as you drive through the area. If you're a local, seems like everyone nice in town comes here for breakfast and coffee!!! Our server, Katelyn, was hustling and on point ... Super nice as well ... Food was, well, it's breakfast. Kind of difficult to screw it up. However, for the prices, you get a good portion, big o pancakes, ham was thanksgiving status, and the coffee was fresh. As we were making our way back home from holiday visits, we were craving some awesome M&M red hots in Elmira....but sadly, they were closed. Since we were staying in Sayre, decided to try Chaconas for a Chacona Dog (which I had read here are legendary in the area). Were they?..oh yes indeedy! Featured that meaty, savory coney sauce common to the area....and a damn fine dog buried beneath....onions and mustard complete this great treat. Will absolutely be a must when we blow through town again. Great old diner feel....but they truly don't need to play up the fake 50's theme with the music and lame faux vintage rock decor....Chaconas IS a REAL 50's diner as it is...not necessary to fake it! I just moved to the area a few weeks ago and am looking for good restaurants. There are few in the area, and what I have found so far are very, very good. Chacona's Restaurant in downtown Sayre, Pa is a best bet when it comes to breakfast. When I saw the front of the building I must say that I was a bit skeptical. But, I know not to judge a restaurant by it's building facade because I have been disappointed more times by a beautiful facade than by a "what is this place" building front. Sayre is an old town. It has old buildings. Do not let this deter you! What I had for breakfast rivaled my grandma's breakfasts. I had the bacon rolled in a pancake with real butter and syrup. It was HUGE and DELISHOUS! It was almost too much and would have been if I had not had to wait for my breakfast buddy to finish. I eat when I have nothing to do while sitting in a restaurant with food in front of me. My granddaughter had home fries (REAL HOMEFRIES), ham, and toast. This kid is a skinny, picky eater. She ate it ALL! She said that the home fries were "really good." This coming from her is something akin to "These are the best I have ever eaten." She will return she said. If you live in the area and have not been to Chacona's you must go! If you just moved to the area, like I have, get up early and get there. They started getting busy at 9:00. By the way, I absolutely love living in "the valley." The air is so clean and the sky is so blue, and the people are the friendliest in the eastern United States. Probably the whole United States! read more

Good food takes time... and it is worth the wait. Went for breakfast with friends on a Sunday morning. The three counters each accommodate a small group so we could enjoy conversation while we waited for our food. The service staff was pleasant and efficient, and we could see the cook freshly preparing each of our orders. Needed a breakfast bite to eat while waiting for an appt., this place is comfort food heaven! I had the pancake/bacon "roll" drizzled with syrup. It was delicious, but it would have been nice for the waitress to plunk down a container of syrup since pancakes do absorb it rather quickly. All in all 4 stars, go there! read more

The foods alright.. been there a few times. Today was the worst. Happy Mother's Day to me...We sat there for over an hour and a half. The waitress told use it order will be out soon... 20 minutes later, we got alittle excited when we saw the blueberry pancake on the grill to find out it wasn't ours. I asked the waitress about out order and she said, we were next in line and it would be another 10-15 minute wait. I had to cancel the order and they accually wanted me to pay $2.50 for the drinks. The owner could have apologized but she picked an attitude instead. She was working the grill. I told the waitress for the long wait they should comp the bill for the drinks. They need to do thier orders in the order they come in and not serve people out of turn. We noticed that she was grilling up orders for the men at the bar. They came in 45 minutes after we've been sitting there. I'm very disappointed in their customer service. If you got all the time in the world then you should dine there. read more

Went in for lunch and ordered a simple wrap, the order was messed up three times. I'm not sure why they fail to get an order right here. The food is ok, however, don't expect to get what you ordered or you will be sadly disappointed. Wait staff not very friendly. read more

This is some of the best food I've had in a long time. I plan on making many return trips to this diner. The home fries are definitely the best I've ever had. The blueberry pancakes are amazing. They use real, fresh blueberries. The burgers are cooked to order. I'm impressed at how well the wait staff actually listens to the customers. The bottom line is the food is great, the prices are good, and this place has real value. read more
