Wowza LaRocha has an amazing selection of cakes, pastries,…read moretarts and candies. You name it. For sweets this is the place to go. Oven the past 2 months, I have had a wicked sweet tooth, craving all things sweet and this place has satisfied it. I've ordered (all cakes) 1. Lemon mousse cake 2. Biscoffee Cookie Butter Cake 3. Italian rum cake 4. Tiramisu cake 5. Chocolate Truffle Cake 6. Pistachio Almond Cake 7. Brownie Chocolate Cheesecake All just on a whim, almost one a week and not even for any special occasions And I must say each and every one has satisfied my cravings. Every cake I've had here has been rich, decadent and absolutely delectable. I'm going to try to cut down on the sweets now but LaRocca makes it so hard to resist with their world class flavours and numerous choices. I recommend this place whole heartedly and I must say I'll be back (probably next week again)

The individual cakes were very fresh and delicious. She chose the keylime and chestnut cakes. Both of them are very different flavours, but they're delicious in their unique ways. I personally like the chestnut one, but the keylime is a refreshing flavour and I really like the tartness of it. The tiramisu comes in the perfect individual portion in this high quality box that is definitely reusable and can be repurposed. The macarons are very pretty to look at and even more delicious to eat. The creamy delicious centre was heavenly!

And I haven't even begun to talk about the flavors. Their signature dish/pastry is the Mont Blanc. It is highly sought after, and often run out before the afternoon. We made a point of going there yesterday, from my partner's birthday to get some special treats. We were not disappointed. Despite being jampacked, as it often is, there was a good supply of the pastries we sought. New to the mix, is their version of a tiramisu. It is off the charts! The pastry chef is truly an artist. If you wish to try possibly the best pastries in the entire GTA, this is the place to go. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. When I first read about Ecila Choco Inc. in Yamato Magazine, I was both excited and intrigued to…read morelearn that there was a chocolatier in Canada who specialized in using Japanese sake in their products. Sake is one of the gluten-free alcoholic beverages that I am grateful for since my gluten allergy precludes me from enjoying the delicious Japanese-brewed beers these days. Alice Ngan, the founder of Ecila Choco Inc., educated herself about sake by enrolling in various courses offered by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) in 2017. Not only did she learn about the production methods that affect the style, quality, and price of sake, but she also came up with an idea of using sake in chocolate! Nihonshu (Japanese sake) is a complex yet delicate-tasting alcoholic beverage and pairing it with chocolate seems like a great idea, doesn't it? Actually, Alice uses sake kasu or sake lees, which is the solid cake left over from the filtration process during sake production. It contains undissolved rice, yeast, and about eight percent alcohol. She obtains the sake kasu she uses in her chocolates directly from Izumi, a small sake brewery located in the Distillery District of Toronto. I received my first order from Ecila today. It was the 36g box containing four small handmade chocolates and a hand-cranked bear music box. Cute concept but definitely not worth the $67 US I paid for the item plus shipping. I also ordered the same item for a friend in Tokyo which cost $78 US to purchase and ship. Aside from the cost, the chocolates were tasty, but not very impressive. The dark chocolate had the texture and taste similar to the Dove® chocolates you can find at any grocery store or pharmacy in the United States for a fraction of the cost. Further, the sake flavor was almost undetectable. I expected something with much more impact. The bear music box was a cute idea, particularly if you were considering gifting someone with sake chocolates, however, that too was a disappointment. I think it would have been a better idea to make it a wind-up music box than a hand-cranked version. The music box is configured to play the song, "Kimi Wo Nosete" ("君をのせて") by Azumi Inoue, but because it is hand-cranked and not a continuous play mechanism, the music is not easy to enjoy. In any event, my curiosity has been satisfied. I will most certainly think twice before ordering from Ecila again.

So you'll have to settle for the quarter slice leftover I have... we kind of forgot about it, as they left it in my fridge for almost two weeks. But today we found it, and surprisingly, it's just as moist and good as when we first tried it that day. It's pretty good! I don't usually have gluten-free cakes, but I wouldn't know it's gluten-free at all. The texture is slightly different, but not a turnoff. I think, in terms of sweetness, it's not too sweet--but maybe, since I'm sensitive to sweetness, it's just a tiny bit sweeter than I would've liked, but still enjoyable. Love the fresh cream layers and berries. Since their gluten-free cake tastes this good, I'm curious to try all their other non-GF treats I've seen at their treat counter next time.
