almejas al vapor picantes - clams

Came here to celebrate a birthday, and it was such a great experience. It's tapas style dining, so it's perfect for sharing a variety of dishes with the table. The atmosphere is beautiful, it feels like you're dining in a cozy house/patio. Our server was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Guava Brava - Such a refreshing and delicious cocktail. I would definitely order this again. Almejas al Vapor Picantes - The avocado clam sauce was incredible, especially paired with the focaccia bread for dipping. Pulpo al Guajillo - One of my favorite dishes of the night. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Empanadas - Really good! We all loved these. Salbute Pato Ahumado - Tasty, but it wasn't one of my favorites compared to the other dishes. Poc Chuc - I'd probably skip this next time. The flavor was good, but the meat wasn't as tender as I expected and was a bit tough to chew. Beignets - So delicious! They come with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, and they were the perfect way to end the meal. Our server even brought us a side of vanilla ice cream to enjoy with them, which turned out to be an amazing combination. Overall, we had a wonderful birthday dinner here. Between the cozy atmosphere, excellent service, and standout dishes, I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Really nice food presentation and experience overall. We got a few dishes to try off their lunch menu. The flatbread and clams were stood out to me with the amazing flavors. Also got the octopus ceviche, definitely very limey taste I would think adding a sweet notes to balance out the dish. The pulled pork tacos were mediocre. I loved their Smokey black hot sauce so do ask for that. Overall great dining experience and service was good.

Had a great experience at Chaak Kitchen this month for a birthday date. The interior of this restaurant is stunning. It is the perfect spot for a date night out, especially in the summer. We ordered carne crudo, castacan, cochinita pibil, and beignets for dessert. For a drink I got a pineapple tamarind agua fresca that was a perfect combination. I really enjoyed everything we ate here. 3 dishes was enough to feed 2. The standout was the cochinita pibil. I do wish we got a little variety and picked a different dish instead of getting 2 pork dishes but both the cochnita pibil and castacan were highly recommended by a friend. The beignets and the dipping sauces were delicious . The dough was so fluffy. The service was great and we sat right next to the kitchen. You could tell the staff is organized and keeps a clean kitchen which is always nice to see with these open kitchen restaurants. Parking is street parking only.

This place is so cute! In the heart of old town Tustin. Open air seating, good vibes + the best service and food. Everything we ordered was so good. I forgot the names of them all but just trust me on this one! Our server brought us out their house made hot sauce that complimented every dish we ordered. Don't forget to ask for it! One was a black charred ghost pepper paste like sauce, nothing like I've ever had. So good. The best thing about all of the food was nothing was too saucy or salty. My girlfriends ordered some drinks and they loved it too. We went on a Thursday and they had a farmers market on the streets as well!

I came here with a reservation for a birthday dinner with a big group. We ordered the family menu set to share with everyone. The set menu was super filling and the food was pretty good. My favorites is the steak and salad. It was super yummy. The food did take awhile to come out but the servers checked up on us often. Overall, the food was good but a bit pricey. I would come back for special occasions and try other items on the menu next time!

Overcooked seafood and burnt rice -- go somewhere else or make it at home

TLDR: They don't know how to prepare meat/seafood, and it's just sad how bad it is. Service is good, lighting/ambiance is fine, super loud- so come if you can speak sign language. I've eaten here twice. Once when they first opened and once more recently. The first time was pretty un-memorable. Actually I take that back -- the memory was that "I have no reason to return." Many years later and seeing they've won a bib-gourmand, I decided to come back because maybe I missed something the first time around. In the most recent time, ~9/2026 - I tried their seafood black rice (marisco en arroz negro) dish. Where do I begin... Seafood/protein - Scallops and shrimps were over cooked to the point where these hokkaido scallops were just HARD and shriveled. So sad for those scallops. Maybe it was just my dish? No. Everyone's food at my table was overcooked -- my friend got the half chicken and the breast meat looked stringy as hell, and looked as if she was cutting into a brick (not chicken). Basically it tells me that the kitchen is overwhelmed and can't cook shrimp/scallop/clams separately, and ends up just overcooking everything at the same time therefore overcooking everything-- psh! what a joke! Rice - it's black -- that's cool.. and the "some crispy bits, some regular" texture was interesting, but personally not my favorite. The problem I have is that the flavor was .... not great - tasted burnt/charred! Can we go back to basics and just not served burned rice so that my mouth doesn't taste like an ash tray? Rice should be flavorful and aromatic.. like.. what happened to just good technique and classic flavors? Ambiance -- well, i couldn't hear what anyone was saying at my table. So, maybe if you're not interested in talking to people in your group then cool. Lighting is really cool. It was dark, but not so dark that I couldn't read the menu. Staff -- Friendly, helpful, and all working as a team -- 5 stars here. Wine -- hooray, my glass was clean, didn't smell like detergent, and wine was fine. They claim they get such good ingredients... but then treat them soo poorly -- it just left me just perplexed. I'm at a loss for words because it's so, so, so obvious the food could be better with minimal effort. Maybe their lost their chef? Who knows, and don't care because I won't ever come back for food.

    Copal! So good! A must!

Wow. Totally outstanding. We had reservations for 1:30, but traffic was really bad so it looked like our arrival time was more like 2 o'clock. We call them and give them a heads up and wondered if there was still availability. Melody was pretty transparent and said that there is a different menu between two and five ---a more limited menu. She asked if there was anyway we could get there before 2 o'clock. Long story short, she was super gracious and told the cooks that we would get there a little after two and they would make us something from the lunch menu. Isa was our waitress, and she was phenomenal! Great sense of humor, very transparent about the different menu items. I got a copal and it was fantastic! Smoky and spicy, but not too spicy. We started our late lunch with Caesar salad, Sopa Limon, Seabreem fish dish. We also got the cubano. We were so stuffed by the end of it, but everything was phenomenal. The Caesar salad was a great way to start the meal, but after a couple of bites of it once we had the other dishes, it didn't stand out as much. We probably would've ordered the same thing all over again, with the exception of the Caesar salad (although it was still good!) Sopa Limon had a very unique bone broth flavor. It was a little sweet. So amazing. Seabreem dish - the vegetables played an important part in the flavors! The fries and the aïoli for the Cubano was amazing. The Cubano was excellent, but was a big serving. We sat outdoors, but if I had to have my choice, I would prefer indoors because the ambience indoors is similar to a resort. It reminds us of a place up in the Bay Area called Luna in Campbell. Except the food here is slightly better :). Will definitely return!

Sooooo good. This place is amazing. Every detail is in order. Val was our most excellent server and she was great! Inside seating or outside seating you can't go wrong. The cocktails are great nice beer selection great wine list. I had a Willamette Pinot Noir call Coeur de Terre. My group only had small plates as we were not that hungry but the quality of all our dishes makes me want to come back for the Platos Fuertes! Definitely come give this place a chance and ask for Val.

Chaak is at the center of charming Old Town Tustin. Between walks around this captivating area, you can relax at Chaak's patio or inside its modern dining room to enjoy its supreme Yucatecan cuisine. Cochinita Pibil: When you unwrap the banana leaves, the prize is the pork shoulder that has been smoked for 12 hours. Grab some of the insanely tender pork with the warm and supple blue corn tortillas. Add some achiote-sour orange braising juice, pickled onions and watermelon radishes. Top it with the avocado puree and salsas. Also add some black charred habanero sauce, whose fiery heat puts this dish over the top. Pulpo al Guajillo: The grilled octopus is lightly charred and crispy, and nice and meaty on the inside. The garbanzo bean puree is like the smoothest creamiest hummus. The diced chayote is similar to young potatoes with a little crunch. Crumbled red chorizo enhances the savoriness of the ingredients. And the hoja santa gremolata is a medley of green herbal flavors. Ceviche Campeche: The cubes of striped bass and octopus are delicate and soft, combined with yellow and red cherry tomatoes, onions, cilantro, scoops of avocado, avocado mousse, cucumber, watermelon radish, and leche de tigre. The zing from the lime juice and the crunch of the blue tortillas makes for a perfect bite. Tamal Colado: This is a deconstructed tamal. The masa is molded into a slender rectangular block. The consistency of the masa is like pudding, just really soft and creamy. Chile braised lamb shank is placed on the masa. Then, an herby tangle of carrot tops and sorrel leaves go on top. On either side are clumps of crunchy cucumber-mint xni pek and silky hazelnut muhammara. Parrillada Yucatan: If you are still hungry, this mixed grill plate will do the job. The prime skirt steak is exquisitely cooked, so soft, moist, and tender. The smoked sausage has a wonderful flavor and is a little spicy. Pollo pibil has a dry rub of achiote and sour orange, and it gives a nice smoky kick. Chuuk Trio: This appetizer plate features sikil p'ak (a dip of pumpkin seeds), guacamole, and salsa. Dip the tortillas and light and crispy rinds into these dips.

I had high hopes for this place when looking up places to take my mother for her birthday. Highly recommend making a reservation. Once we arrived, we were seated relatively quickly. The inside was decorated beautifully and there were plenty of tables for parties of any size. We tried many different things. The food tasted good but I personally felt that the dishes were more to the blander side. When asked if there was anything they offer for a birthday, we were just told by the staff plainly that this restaurant 'offers nothing complimentary' right in front of my family. That's fine, but on a whole atmosphere level, I won't be taking my family back here or recommending this place to my friends. There are better options close by.

Had the pleasure of dining at Chaak, and since I knew I'd be in the area that day, I decided it was best to make reservations. We arrived about 15-20 minutes early because we weren't sure how busy it would be. When we walked in, it was surprisingly slow, which was odd, the maitre d took a good minute to seat us. There were plenty of available tables, but she decided to wait until exactly 6:30, which felt a bit off. Our server also took a while, maybe another 10-15 minutes to arrive, but at least someone was pouring water in the meantime. After some time, Lyndsay came over apologizing, explaining she was busy cleaning up broken wine bottles? Once that was sorted, everything got much better. We ordered the bone-in NY steak, octopus (pulpo asado), esquites, and finally the Bombas! Everything was absolutely -- it was a fantastic experience. I can't wait to visit their sister location, which offers more modern Mexican cuisine, compared to Chaak, which is inspired by the Yucatan Peninsula. Very modern ambiance! Reservations not required but highly suggested!

First of all, please note the lunch menu is just 1 page and I heard the dinner menu is more expansive! I had lunch with 2 girlfriends and 3 toddlers under the age of 3... and somehow, we all survived and everything was delicious. My favorite was definitely the ceviche: it was fresh and tart and clean and full of flavor. The shrimp dish was kind of like a pizza? but it was good with the ceviche sauce. The service was excellent- our water cups were never empty, and the toddlers were given cups with lids. The ambiance is vibey and bright, and there is a full bar. I am suuuuuure it gets crazy at nighttime, but during the day (and it was Saturday!), parking was not bad and I saw lots of cars go in and out.

I ate here with a group of work colleagues. When I had Googled the location before coming I realized that I would be eating at my first Michelin star rated restaurant in the US. This in a old downtown area of Tustin where parking is limited; I had to cruise around the block a few times to find a parking place on the street. We were seated after checking in with a reservation. The restaurant is dimly-lit so I needed the light on my phone to illuminate the menu. I started out with the Higa, a gin cocktail. There were quite a few offerings to chose from but ended up getting the half chicken. That chicken had a generous spice rub on it and gave it great flavor. I was disappointed that they had very limited offerings for vegetables. My colleagues were pleased with their food and the service was good. I had never been to a Michelin starred restaurant in the US and didn't know what to expect. I was surprised when I saw how plain the restroom was. This was a four star experience for me.

Chaak Kitchen Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Chaak Kitchen

How do I make a reservation at Chaak?

It's in Tustin, we called . We had a party of 6.

What is the noise level? Is it possible to have a conversation with several people at a table?

The noise level is moderate...you can have a conversation with your table.

    Is there valet?

No. This is at the Old Town Tustin area. There are a lot of restaurants and shops in the area.

Is the brunch menu similar to dinner menu?

brunch has breakfast options and lunch plates. Menus are on the website too!

    Is this restaurant kid friendly?

Not really- unless they are food aficionados

    Is the roof always open?

No, but they do like to open every day if they can.

To make a reservation - they ask for you to put your credit card info online to book. Will it charge anything on the card?

No, they won't charge unless you're a no show. They said you can cancel up to 5 minutes before your reservation time and they still won't charge you. They just want a heads up so they're not saving your table for nothing.

Is the outdoor patio dog friendly?

Yes! We have brought our dog there before

Are you able to order food to go?

Only certain dishes are able to be made Togo. A lot of the menu is plated for service and not everything can be made Togo since it might take away from the integrity of the dish.

    Do you sell giftcards?

    Yes we do!

    What's the corkage fee? Thanks

It was $20 last time I was in. I'd check it again when they reopen because a lot of restaurants have been upping these types of charges.

Can you accommodate a party of 8-10 outdoors?

Yes! I'd call the restaurant and ask to speak to a manager though so you could make a pre set menu

Do you have high chairs if I brought my child?

    Yes!

Is there TV's to watch football on sunday's?

Hello! We do not have TVs.

On a Sunday, may we order from any menu, or must we order from the menus available for the hours designated for "lunch," "afternoon," &/or "dinner"? I would like to have a dinner menu item for lunch. Thanks!

I am sure that they don't have some of the dinner items available at certain times, hence the different menu. I know there are some items that are available on both menus. If you want a dinner item, that is in the dinner menu, my suggestion is to…

    Do they have happy hour?

No -- at least they didn't on a Friday afternoon.

Is this a family friendly restaurant and do they have a kids menu?

This is a small plate Yucatán themed restaurant that is good for kids who are open minded. No chicken nuggets on menu. Otherwise, leave the kids at home and enjoy a nice night out with very good food & drinks.

The atmosphere is more intimate and private compared to the main tiki bar, which makes it a nice change of pace. The food menu is limited, but what we tried was good. The drinks were definitely the highlight. I had the Farewell Jimmy, Smoke the Monster Out, and Geppetto's Last Words--all three were great. Smooth, tropical, flavorful, and definitely potent. We arrived on time but had to wait in the very busy and crowded bakery for 20 minutes while we watched 3 other couples be escorted up one at a time... When we finally got taken up, we then had to drink water for 20 minutes while we waited for the other couples to go one at a time to the bar for their "tasting". The atmosphere was small, bright, on the loud side for a speak easy, uncomfortable seating, open air and not impressive. The bartender prepared 4 drinks for each party to taste out of a straw from the same glass. Those were the drinks they were able to choose from for their order. It also seemed that there were two couples at the bar at the same time that didn't even know one another. We were told we had to "wait our turn". I took an out of town friend and kept apologizing to her about how bad the experience was. If they even want to attempt something like this they need to space out the reservations more, allow people to order drinks while they are waiting and offer more than 4 drinks. The food menu was less than impressive also...about 6 items deep and we saw some food come out that did not look appetizing. The charcuterie was laughable. By the time it was our turn, we were over it. I went to the bartender and asked for a refund of our $50 deposit and he said " yeah that is not how this works. You can go talk to the manager if you want but the deposit is non refundable". He was so rude that we walked out. On the way out the manager told me he would credit my card and "take care of it" and I have yet to see a credit. Don't waste your time, there are so many speak easy places in the OC that blow this one away.

I'm a sucker for a beautiful, contemporary interior. I loved every food item that we ordered. The menu included pictures, which is helpful, and it's also good to know that dishes are meant to be shared, like a true Chinese restaurant. I liked the spin on classic dishes such as adding truffle to cheung fun. Don't skip dessert. The kaya toast was a highlight (it's made with Vermont butter) and the waiter informed us that they're currently the only restaurant doing this. By the way, service was excellent. They kept our waters refilled (mostly) and cleared out empty dishes. We loved everything so there were plenty of empty dishes and they neatly bagged the leftovers to take home. Don't forget to scan your app at checkout so you can get Kei Concepts points for your meal.

The birthday girl wanted to check out QUA, and we're so thankful she did because the entire party enjoyed a fine dining experience. Every menu item we ordered was just as good, if not better, than the next. From the beverage order to the apps, on to the entrees and finally dessert, everything was meticulously prepared and plated before being consumed by our party. We ordered the following items and I would recommend every single one: - Kungfu Panda (they use a Taiwanese whiskey!) - Sichuan Beef Tendon (beware the heat if you can't handle spicy) - Crispy Shrimp Red Rice Roll (I was blown away by the unexpected and delicate crunch) - Garlic Prawns with Glass Noodles - Stir-fried Ong Choy with Sliced Garlic - XO Fried Rice w/ Char Siu - Mango Shaved Snow Shoutout to Noah and the restaurant staff who were so attentive and warm during our visit. I've had the privilege of trying a good number of restaurants under Kei Concepts, and I can safely say QUA is now my favorite one among the group. They even offer an afternoon tea on weekends. Can't wait to visit again!

From the moment you walk in, the staff is absolutely amazing. They're welcoming, friendly, and actually take the time to talk with you, which makes the experience feel personal rather than just another night out. And if you're coming here just for the drinks--STOP! You absolutely have to try the food. The Ahi Nachos were the perfect way to start the night, and the Garlic Shrimp were just as delicious. Then came the drinks... and wow! We had a Zombie, and I also tried the Mai Tai, Serpent's Grasp, Bird of Paradise, and several SOS shots. Every single drink was fantastic. Of course, I had to buy the mug too! The ambiance is another huge part of what makes Strongwater special. Everything feels thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere completely transports you into the tiki experience. The only drawback is the two-hour time limit, but honestly, I understand it. They're trying to give everyone an opportunity to experience the place, and with how popular it is, it makes sense. Amazing food, incredible drinks, fantastic staff, and a perfectly executed atmosphere. Strongwater is easily one of the best tiki bars in Orange County--and definitely my favorite!

Definitely make your reservation well in advance because this place fills up quickly! The cocktails looked incredible and tasted just as amazing. One of the highlights was trying a special liquor called Charanda from Uruapan, Michoacán, which was such an unexpected and special treat! Greg, our bartender, was amazing--super knowledgeable and great at making drinks. He made the whole experience even better. Such a fun hidden tiki bar with a unique atmosphere and incredible cocktails. We can't wait to come back and try more of their amazing concoctions!

The Blind Rabbit has been on my Yelp to-do list for a few years now, and I finally made it happen…read more I love a good speakeasy, but so many places claim the title and miss the mark. This one absolutely nailed it. Reservations are required, and they're usually booked up, so I'd missed my chance in the past by remembering too late. This time I was on a solo trip and managed to snag a spot by booking early in the morning. It happened to be the last night of their Great Gatsby theme, and they executed it perfectly, from the details to the overall atmosphere. I love that they rotate themes instead of sticking with the same setup every time; it keeps things exciting and gives people a reason to keep coming back. The drinks and food were both top-notch. Every single person I interacted with- bartenders, servers, and hosts- was amazing, super friendly, and helpful. Can't wait to go back and see what the next theme brings.

The Blind Rabbit is no doubt a very neat place and definitely an experience, but the reason for my…read moreone star is because my friend and I were treated absolutely terribly by one of the bartenders. We were there on Sunday, October 3rd around 3pm. We asked who the owners were because we were really impressed with the place and thought they might be the same owners as another location we had visited. There was absolutely no bad intention behind the question. The male bartender told us that no one name drops anymore. I understood what he was saying and was more than willing to move on. But then I asked him if the bar offered whiskey sours and he responded, "You really don't know what you're doing here and what you want." I was honestly so taken back by that comment. I don't normally stay quiet when someone speaks to me disrespectfully, but I was so caught off guard that I didn't even know what to say. Before that, he had also yelled out to the host that she didn't need to worry because we didn't know the owners and that she could relax. The whole interaction was completely unnecessary and made us feel very uncomfortable. We came in wanting to enjoy the atmosphere and have a good time. Instead, we left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. There is a way to speak to customers, even if you feel they are asking questions you don't like. We did nothing to deserve that kind of attitude. The Blind Rabbit may be a great place, but unfortunately, the way we were treated by this bartender completely ruined the experience for us. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, ours was extremely disappointing.
