Japanese sweets in bento box
Frances P.

I've been here before for their desserts but this was my first time coming for high tea here, I made a reservation to try out the expeirence. If I'm being honest although the food and desserts were super pretty I just couldn't justify the price. It was an experience but I'd probably wouldn't come again for high tea specifically. If anything their regular desserts are definitely a better bang for your buck.

OMG!!! This dessert place is awesome. Ambiance A+, drinks A+, desserts A++! We came here bc it was recommended by a few friends. So we went out of our way to get here on a Monday afternoon for a little pick me up desserts and drink. No wait in line. We ordered: Matcha Tiramisu - this is a must! The matcha is so smooth! Black Sesame Crème Brûlée - black sesame cream with vanilla ice cream. Love the black sesame on this! Dango Dango - came in 3 flavors: matcha, yuzu, strawberry. My fav is the yuzu. Jasmine Pearls (hot tea) - goes well with the sweets Himé - shochu with fresh homemade strawberry purée & lime juice Wish we have more room for desserts and cocktails. I'll definitely come back here again and again, but I live in SF. Will recommend this place to everyone! I heard their savories are good too...

Cha-An is like walking into a portal to Japan where you're greeted with the hospitality, quality and aesthetic of an authentic dessert cafe. I consider myself a parfait connoisseur and having been to the parfait Motherland (Tokyo), many times I feel confident in deeming this the best parfait in New York (and I have tried them all). It's not cheap, but it's well worth the price. Chestnut parfait: topped with Mont Blanc and pears their seasonal chestnut parfait was spectacular. The hojicha jelly at the bottom was lightly sweetened and mixed perfectly with the rest of the parfait. I believe I paid $23 for this which is on par for parfait pricing. 5/5 no notes Matcha latte: rich and full of flavor Matcha latte did not disappoint, perfect balance, and lightly sweetened 5/5. Staff was extremely kind and attentive, they have a one order per customer policy.

It was amazing service for Japanese afternoon tea. The pastries and food were delicious. The cherry blossom desserts and cookies are perfectly balanced between sweetness and buttery.

Such a cute and charming tea house, I love this place and I would find any reason to go! I went in mid-March and they had their cherry blossom desserts on the menu. We ordered a parfait to share and one beverage each. The beverages were not memorable but the parfait?? I love the parfaits here so much!! The sakura parfait was so beautiful and tasty, although it can be a bit difficult to eat with it stacked so high! As much as I would want to come here all the time, the desserts are on the pricier end, so I try to limit the amount of times I come by for my beloved parfaits... Service can also be slow at times, especially when it is busy, and sometimes the staff are not very attentive.

Cha-An is a cozy teahouse located in St. Mark's / Astor Place. The area is small, but wonderfully decorated with a comfortable ambience. You can definitely walk in anytime to order in the 2nd floor area; however, I tried the afternoon tea experience with a friend, which is an experience you need to reserve and pay for in advance. You have to walk up a narrow flight of stairs and check in on the 2nd floor with the hostess. Despite being on time for the reservation, there was a slight wait as the staff was setting up the dining area. The afternoon tea experience takes place on the 3rd floor. I was worried about portion sizes and wondered if I would still be full after, but each dish was savory and filling. I was comfortably full! My personal favorites are: - The egg sandwich and salmon sandwich, which were the perfect bite-sized savory appetizers - Roll cake, which was fluffy and had nice, cold, crisp grapes as the topping - Sakura cookie, which was nice and crumbly - Matcha chocolate, which consisted of 2 blocks of matcha. It's perfect for any matcha lover. It was not bitter at all. I recommend checking their menu before making the reservation, as they are seasonal and subject to change. Definitely recommend this spot if you want to try an afternoon tea experience with multiple courses and treats!!

Four of us stopped by Cha-An on a rainy Saturday a couple weeks ago, and there was about a 15 minute wait before we got seated. Overall, there were lots of parties coming in and out of Cha-An. We had to go up a narrow and steep set of stairs before we got to the dine-in area. CLASSIC ICED MATCHA LATTE - 11.70 Lots of ice in the skinny, tall glass. The matcha powder was pretty gritty and not mixed in well with the milk. It was pretty mediocre, and it was so expensive. DANGO DANGO - 16.50 Dango is a sweet Japanese rice flour dumpling from my understanding My friend got this, which comes with three pieces of the following: yuzu, strawberry, matcha. It was chewy and sweet, but nothing extraordinary. I don't know if I'd pay that much for nine bite-sized dumplings. Overall, the items at Cha-An are quite expensive and are just OK. It's a decent location to chill and yap, but I wasn't too impressed with the quality of desserts and drinks for the price.

Everything I had here was amazing! I heard they're known for the matcha tiramisu so of course I had to get that and I loved it! So to get something different I tried their hojicha latte (instead of matcha). I think this was probably my first time trying it, definitely plan to try out more hojicha now! The 3rd item was their black sesame Creme brûlée, and just like everything, it tasted amazing!

The most delicious desserts and mochi!!! Absolutely cuteness overload and fantastic drinks as well. Great place to buy a gift for someone who likes mochi and japanese things.

took a small break at this tea shop! we wanted to share a matcha tiramisu but saw that it was one order min per person and panicked ordered we ended up getting a strawberry affogato to share and i got myself a matcha latte. it was pretty good but on the pricier side. it was a cozy intimate private area and kinda seemed classy. very reminiscent of the service I received in Japan for similar tea houses / dessert shops. i would come again alone to order a matcha tiramisu for myself matcha tiramisu: 10/10 everything else: 8/10

The place was beautifully decorated and super cozy. The space is relatively smaller. I got lucky with the bar space but may have to wait a little for a table. The matcha parfait and the creme brûlée. Both were good but on definitely on the pricier side. We also had to order an item per person in our party.

We stopped in for the afternoon tea experience. It is two flights up and there are no elevators so this establishment is not ADA accessible unfortunately. The staff were very kind and attentive. Each course was a delight. Especially the desserts. Only 1 out of 3 savory sandwiches was vegetarian however, so I wish they had more vegetarian options. I can't even name all the desserts but I loved each one especially the hojicha cookie. The tea served were all versions of hojicha and this complimented the food served. There's a decent amount of tables up there but the sound level was not loud. This was an enjoyable spot for an afternoon tea. The bathroom was very modern and clean as well.

Matcha tiramisu, Black Sesame crème Brulee, hojicha anmitsu

Pricey but the desserts are tasty. We got the matcha tiramisu, black sesame crème brûlée, and hojicha anmitsu and my favorite was the matcha tiramisu. The cream they used was very rich and not too sweet, and I think it had just the right balance of matcha flavor. We went right when they opened at 2pm on a Friday so there was no wait, and it took a while before other tables filled up.

I've never tried a Japanese cheesecake before and was extremely excited to be able to pick up some treats for my coworkers as well as my partner's birthday cake from Keki. Ordering is fairly straightforward and done with a simple machine outfront. Once your order is ready one of the staff members hands it to you through a window; there is no inside area accessible to customers but our food came quickly and we took it back to the office. The cheesecake was fantastic. I read a bit about the background of the shop online and how the owner really cares about using high-quality ingredients, specifically dairy. It was justas described, light and bouncy. I enjoyed how it was not overly sweet and found that it was all too easy to devour the entire cake over the course of two days. Despite it not having much weight to it, it traveled surprisingly well as I took it home on my three train commute! Similar to what others have said, the real highlight of the shop, in my opinion, are their cream puffs. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the outer layer was thin yet had a nice little crunch to it. We tried the classic milk, cookies & cream pistachio and ube flavors. Our favorite was the pistachio by far, which had such a unique yet decadent flavor and our second favorite was the milk cream puff. There's not much else I can say other than you really have to go here and try the desserts yourself. If you're a fan of Japanese desserts that are rich yet not too sweet, you'll be a fan of Keki.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
