Interior layout is still the same as Tai Yuan, with minor remodeling
    Peter C.

The old Tai Yuan location has reopened with minor renovations to the walls, lighting, and flooring. The restrooms were remodeled and are clean. The dirty carpet was replaced. The OG locals refer this to Tai Wu or King's China Bistro if you were around till the 90s. The remnants of the former are the tables, chairs, and tableware. There was no wait to be seated, upon being seated I noticed familiar faces in the management team. If you patronized the local Daly City Chinese restaurants like Ming Yuan and Woo Hao, the managers/captains both coincidentally both called May joined forces with Cheung Hing to take over Tai Yuan. There is no cart service here, you just mark the menu to order. We ordered the mixed siu mai, ha gow, spare ribs, pan fried turnip cake, pork blood, shrimp rice rolls, and beef chow fun. The dim sum was not overly salty, but the mixed siu mai has a weird taste and would recommend the standard version. The beef chow fun needed some wok hay and was very bland. Perhaps the wok was new and needs to be seasoned. The service was okay, as the waitstaff are still making adjustments and hence the soft opening phase. Took a bit longer to tea refilled and for them to bring sauces, but they definitely didn't forget or give any attitude. My parents pointed out there's no live seafood in the fish tanks, brings up the question if their $28 lobster noodle special comes with a fresh lobster, maybe the fish tanks will be stocked next time, as it's important part of feng shui to symbolize freshness and continuous flow for a business. Overall good to have options to weekend dim sum, as we kept going to Ming Yuan and Dim Sum King since Tai Yuan closed. The price point and target audience is more aligned with the boomers/retirees who would come daily.

Dried Scallop, Chive w/Shredded Chicken Soup($18.95)

Been coming to this location for many years and it has been through at least 2-3 changes in ownership. As of 2026, it was taken over by the Cheung Hing ownership. They did a light remodel of the old restaurant; overall the restaurant is your typical Cantonese banquet layout with large tables and a few smaller tables throughout. It was brightly lit and plenty of space between the tables. Since they soft opened roughly about 1 week ago(03/13/2026), they still don't have a few things ready yet such as the water tank for the live fish and dinner service was a bit slow since it took awhile to get our dishes. We tried: 1) Dried Scallop, Chive w/ Shredded Chicken Soup($18.95)(6.8/10) - A overall good soup; light and flavorful without being overly salty. There was plenty of shredded chicken, but didn't see too much of the chives(yellow chives). The portion size was pretty big for a family of 4; we each were able to get about 2-3 bowls each. 2) Sweet & Sour Chicken($15.95)(7.3/10) - This dish sort of surprised me. It was really good...the chicken was tender and juicy with a light crisp. The onions, green bell peppers and pineapple had a good wok hei to them. The sauce was just right consistency and flavor was good - leaning more towards the sour side. 3) Stir Fried Chinese Broccoli[Gai Lan] ($16.95)(7.1/10) - A simple and tasty vegetable dish. The gai lan was cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce complemented the gai lan. The gai lan was fresh and still had a good snap when eating them. 4) Shredded Pork Pan-Fried Crispy Noodles($16.95)(7.4/10) - A very good dish. The noodles were fried well; without it feeling too greasy. Held up well with the shredded pork gravy sauce. The shredded pork gravy sauce was savory and flavorful; there was enough to mix with all the noodles. Overall, the dinner dishes that I tried were really good and were seasoned appropriately. At first, when seeing the prices, we originally thought it was a bit expensive; but given the portions sizes that we got for each dish, I would say it is reasonably priced. Overall, dishes we tried were on par with other Cantonese restaurants; it won't wow you but it will satisfy that craving for Cantonese style food. Service was a hit and miss; it did take awhile to flag staff for some more tea or chili sauce; kitchen was a bit slow to push out dishes - but I'll give them a pass since they've been only open for 1 week when I went. Hopefully they iron out the issues next time.

    New tables and floors

New dim sum place in Daly City replacing the old one with new ownership and brand new floors and carpet thank goodness! No more grimy floors and old tables. New tea pots and plates and silverware too! They did a remodel and it looks cheap, but it's still better than what it was before. Got a variety of dim sum. Steamed bun with chicken, veggies, fish porridge. Everything was just average, nothing to write home about. The porridge was just okay, tasted very watery. Service was spotty, but they were very busy. The chive dumplings that were pan fried were lukewarm and the crunchy stuff underneath was soggy. Everyone said the dim sum could have been warmer and they felt like it had been sitting awhile.

    Oily table

The table was not cleaned well (maybe nit able to be cleaned well), waiters are overworked, chair covers are dirty, and tables are cleaned using the same towel for each table. We got a ticket for 6 at table B9, another group of guests took one of those paper and wrote herself B9, and the wait person was so confused until we told her that we were assigned B9 by her on the list before that lady who took the paper and wrote it herself. If we did not speak up, we'd be waiting after those people! They need to hire more people. She was so overworked and confused.

Food is wait too long to come.I'm very disappointed food is cool, and coconut pudding is no favorite? Only the milk. roast pork was similar warm and the skin was small as a fingernail, the Cheung fun shrimp wrap was so thick . No good Service is normal. Not very helpful. Place is clean.

We tried lunch dim sum here. Parking in mall free. Lunch was much more crowded than dinner. Pick items and the server enters in register. Timing of delivery is by whatever was cooking, deep fried, or steam, or entree rice or noodle. Soup and tea immediately. Tea 1.50 / person, hot water is 1.00 / person. Stingy on paper napkins, plastic table cloths for easy table turn around. Dim sum depends on what you ordered. Overall, dim sum was good to very good. Thirsty a lot, so maybe lot of msg in food. Service below average, need to refill tea kettle. need more napkins, need forks which never came, need to pay bill with no one picking up so we went to front to pay bill, 18-20-25 % tip for poor service. Overall 3 stars out of 5.

Came here a weekday for a birthday dinner. We ordered what we wanted and my kids enjoyed.

    As of 3/2026

New dim sum restaurant that took over the old place. I've been coming to this place for close to 20 yrs I think. This place probably changed owners 4 or 5 times. Way back it used to be Tai Wu. That was the best. Then at some point it became Tai Yuan which was also good. Then a couple of weeks ago it became CH Imperial. It wasn't until I saw Cheung Hing imprinted on the tea pot which I discovered it's part of the Cheung Hing chain (which explains CH Imperial being CH for Cheung Hing). Being the second week it was opened, it was packed. Not sure if everyone wanted to try the new place or was it just a typical Sunday. I had no idea this place remodeled and changed owners. Place looks new but the decor is cheesy also with the cheesy chair covers. Bathroom remodeled but still dirty and floors were wet. Service was horrible. We sat at our table but no servers available. I would figure they would provide faster service since they wanted to make an impression. Difficult to get them to refill the tea pot. What's worst, we are a party of 10. Took forever to get someone to bring us hot sauce. They brought one small dish. Really????? For 10 people? Asked for more and they basically refilled the same amount in the same small dish. Food was ok. Pricey!!!!! Nothing to rant and rave about. The way you order is kind of a scam if you ask me. They give you a colorful menu to order from. You mark off how many you want. So when your order gets placed in the kitchen, they give you a confirmation receipt. The receipt is in Chinese!!! So you have no clue what you ordered. The reason the two stars is because we were seated immediately.

The interior continues to provide an old school atmosphere with bustling ambiance, a koi fish pond (beloved by the children), large tables for big families and fish in tanks. The food is generally pretty good. Cantonese food is known more for balance, so even if you order their "Szechuan" dishes, there isn't a ton of spice. I'm a big fan on their XO sauce, so the XO pan fried rice rolls are my favorite. The green seaweed crunch shrimp rice roll is also quite good. We placed our orders and settled in to wait for our dishes. As we chatted and shared stories, we noticed that the table behind us was receiving their orders and sitting down about 10 minutes after we did. We started to see plates arriving for other tables, prompting us to investigate the status of our food. Upon checking, we discovered that our order had been lost. After waiting for half an hour, we were informed that they had misplaced it. Consequently, we had to place our order again. Let's dive into the details of our dishes: - Roasted Duck Burrito: The burrito lacked substantial duck meat, and the wrap was not warm as it should have been. - Shui Mai: This dish was consistent with the taste of other Shui Mai we've had. - Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce: Regrettably, we never received this dish. - Har Gaw: This was the last dish served us. It arrived steaming hot, but the wonton skin wrapper was thick and chewy. - Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce: The ribs had a sweeter flavor than expected. - Fresh Okra Poached with Garlic & Scallion: The okra was not slimy and had a pleasant taste. - Hand Roasted Suckling Pig Slice: The slice was incredibly tender and crispy. - Crispy Tofu with Garlic/Herbs: The tofu was crispy, but some of the coating that wasn't fully fried with it tasted a bit raw. - Crispy Fried Taro Puffs with Pork: These were crispy and warm. - Fried Glutinous Dumplings with Dice Pork: The dumplings were crispy and warm, but the pork was minimal. - Stir Fried Beef Chow Fun: The dish was good, and the meat was tender. Throughout the meal, our waiter kept checking on our order and relaying messages in Chinese about the dishes still needed for our table. After two hours, we decided to cancel the chicken feet. When the bill arrived, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the service, and the waiter responded with a series of "ok"s. After a few more "I'm not happy" comments, he removed the "service charge" and informed us that we could decide whether to leave a tip or not. We did leave a tip, but here's my tip to you...take your chance #dimsum #chinesefood #koipalace #disclaimermusicisnotmine

No water, just pure concentrated flavor. The restaurant gets its name from simmering, one of the essential Chinese cooking techniques, and you can taste that philosophy across the whole menu. The Dry Pot lived up to the hype, but the real surprise was the skewers. Beef, lamb, and chicken, intensely flavorful and rich. I can't stop thinking about them. The potstickers were also way better than expected. Usually a throwaway order at most places, but here they were juicy and packed with flavor. The beef pancakes were fantastic. Golden and crispy on the outside, juicy flavor bomb on thes inside. Both crunchy and a little chewy (in the good way). Came back a few weeks later with friends and ordered the whole grilled fish, which I'd been eyeing since my first visit. It looked magnificent, but it didn't really pop the way the other dishes did. If you love fish it's worth trying, but the dry pot, skewers, beef pancakes, and dumplings are the stars here. We also got a few veggie dishes which were all great accompaniments...but nobody is here for the veggies. A few practical notes. They have a beer tap but it doesn't work, so if you're into beer, they've got a few options by the bottle. Parking is easy since it's in the Serramonte Center, and you can combine it with a trip to Jagalchi, Target, or whatever else you need. Both times I came there was plenty of seating. I'll be back soon, and next time I'm getting the dry pot with their handmade noodles.

After our meal they even packed up our leftover food in to-go containers. The one thing though was that nearing the end of the meal I wasn't quite finished with my bowl of rice (I took a little break) but they mistakenly took it away assuming I was done. They didn't pack it with our other left-over food so they must have thrown it out :/ It would have been nice if they asked first before taking it, especially since there was still food in it. They are located in a strip mall near several different food places, bakery, and a bowling alley. This is a solid dim sum place, with no frills and reasonable prices. You order off a printed menu that's in Chinese with tiny English subtitles. You can also order off their regular menu if you want to supplement the dim sum dishes. Their food is very good, and some dishes were excellent. The service was pretty quick, and before we knew it, all our dishes were out with almost no room on the lazy Susan. The standouts for me were: + Steamed custard buns (piggy buns) - I ordered these for the kiddies, but dang they are so good. The custard filling is so velvety, it's almost like pudding. I think I detected a hint of coconut too - yum. + Beef chow fun - this had a really good wok flavor and the noodles were less wide than most. The noodles didn't clump either, and the bean sprouts were still crispy. + Roasted pork belly - the skin was so crispy and the pork was juicy. We ordered most of the basic dishes like har gaw, sui mai, noodle rolls, turnip cake, stuffed eggplant, chicken feet, etc. and they were all above average. My only complaint is if you don't read Chinese, the menu is a little hard to navigate. The English subtitles are so small that if you're looking for something, you have to scan the front and back of the menu trying to find the item. I was looking for sticky rice in lotus leaf, but found sticky rice roll and thought it was the same thing. It wasn't. The sticky rice roll was not bad, but I found the rice drier than when it's in lotus leaf. We ordered a few things by mistake because the English subtitles were not that descriptive. Overall, a great alternative to more popular places like Koi Palace. The menu may not be as creative as Koi, but you don't have to deal with the lines and you still get great food.

Most Chinese restaurants will accommodate a guest request so long as they have the ingredients and they know how to compose the dish. How they work out the pricing may be something else.
