I come here about 4 times a week since it's close by. The coffee is mostly okay but sometimes it's just downright bad. The pictured latte had some of the worst foam I've had in a while and the milk was burnt so the whole thing tasted bitter. I ended up tossing it. I had an uncomfortable experience at this café on 1/18 around 3:30 PM. While I was waiting in line, one cashier was helping another customer. A second cashier (a tall male wearing a light-colored plaid shirt?) made eye contact with me, but instead of greeting me or using a polite gesture, he pointed with his chin from right to left to signal me to come over. I found this very rude, arrogant and not professional. Coming to CFCF to relax has always been a pleasant and important routine--not only for me, but for the neighborhood, because the service and coffee have always been on point. I hope the management takes service manners seriously so this doesn't affect customers' overall experience in the future. read more

I was asked to stop reading my newspaper on my iPad this morning. I have been a customer for years and always done the same thing. I stay for about 30 minutes, enjoy my coffee and catch up on the news. I'm an old man, not working, just enjoying my time. I asked if I could look at my phone and read the news and was told yes. This is asinine. I can read a print book, but not on my iPad. You have customers conducting interviews and meetings all around me, actively doing commerce, but I can't sit quietly and read. The last thing I want to do is leave a negative review about CFCF, because the food and coffee there are excellent. Everything is freshly made and consistently delicious, and I genuinely look forward to going. The service is usually friendly and welcoming as well. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been overshadowed by repeated issues with the manager. On three separate visits, she confronted me and my friend because I have a service dog. My dog is well-behaved, friendly, and trained to assist me. The concern seems to be that he doesn't "look" like a typical service dog. The manager, Kaline, asked me to prove he was a service dog and insisted he leave. I calmly explained that he is a service dog and described the tasks he performs, which is all that is required by law. Despite this, she continued to challenge me and dismissed the documentation I showed her. Her concern also seemed to be that I occasionally give my dog small treats and that he may rarely bark to get my attention. He is not disruptive, not aggressive, and fully under control at all times. As per ADA guidelines, a service dog can only be removed if it is out of control, not housebroken, or poses a direct threat -- none of which applies here. Beyond the policy issue, the way we were treated was uncomfortable. From the moment we walked in, we felt watched and unwelcome. I am in my 80s, and this kind of experience is upsetting and unnecessary. This is disappointing because I truly enjoy CFCF and would prefer to continue supporting the business. I hope management takes the time to better understand service animal laws and ensures customers are treated with respect going forward. read more

When I used to live in town, I came here all the time to get work and enjoy the coffee and vibe of the place. I've since moved out of town, but return frequently and always come here to still get work done and enjoy the coffee and vibe. Today, however, when I returned and took out my laptop to get some work done, I was told by an employee that they don't allow laptops - this has never been an issue before. When I questioned as to why, since I've been coming for years, she said that "people stay too long" so they "stopped allowing laptops 3-4 months ago"...this rationale just doesn't make any sense for me. While I know the library is right around the corner and there are other coffee shops on the Ave for me to get work done, I've always enjoyed sitting down at CFCF taking out my laptop, having coffee or a pot of tea and usually a meal, and leaving feeling accomplished and happy. Sure, I'd stay here for a couple hours, but when I'm going to a coffee shop, it's usually to get a change of scenery to get work done which usually includes opening up my laptop. Over the years, I've adjusted to this location covering up their outlets so people wouldn't stay too long and to removing their wi-fi for guests (so I'd have to used my own hot-spot), but to not allow laptops at all so people don't stay here too long, that doesn't sound right to me. There are places in the city that won't allow laptops after a certain time of day, say 5p, so that people trying to work don't feel disturbed when others are trying to enjoy a drink/have a social vibe which makes sense to me. However, to restrict laptops all day (I was here at 11a) so people don't stay at a coffee shop for too long goes against what I view as the point of a coffee shop that has seating. Maybe I'm just wrong with my view of a coffee shop. What's the difference between staying too long with a laptop vs. with a book vs. with a journal vs. while catching up with friends? This location does have a good black iced coffee, pots of teas, and avocado toast so it still gets a couple stars from me. However, I won't be returning here to work anytime soon read more

I love the affogato here -- they use vanilla bean gelato vs regular ice cream, there's a good amount of it (though I prefer more ice cream to espresso ratio). The espresso is bitter but is mellowed out by the gelato's creaminess and I can drink the rest without being overwhelmed by bitterness. There's cute indoor seating options (incl. bar in the back, a small area with 4 "single" seats with little tables in a mirrored nook) and exterior chairs with tables for when the weather is nice out. Service is pretty quick and the people are nice. I got an 8 oz hot cocoa for the kids to split (they gave me an extra cup to split it) and whipped cream on the side so I could top both cups with it for them. read more

A truly bizarre experience. Took my laptop out in the corner of the shop for 10 minutes to listen in on a zoom call, not even chatting. Was told they don't allow laptops. Ok, they get to set their own rules... But as I go to step outside, there are two women having coffee- on the table between them? A pigeon. On a leash. Walking around the table, goes down onto the floor, pops back up to the table and walks around the women's shoulders. So I can't quietly sit in the corner of the shop headphones in, occupying one seat with no table, but pigeons on the table is cool? Seems like a clear sanitation issue, they did not care though. Really bizarre experience, my cortado was mediocre, the interior was tacky. Don't bring your laptop if you go but do bring your bird. Connecticut stays weird. Happy for the pigeon though. read more

Decent coffee spot BUT they DON'T allow laptops and there's NO clear SIGN or COMMUNICATION of that rule, until AFTER you purchase your drink, open your laptop and are met with enforcement of that rule. They won't meet you with kindness when you express your frustration with the lack of clear signs. They also WON'T give you a refund OR much incentive to come back when you explain your frustration at the lack of proper signage and ask to be refunded since you purchased your coffee (and tipped) and planned to do work there. *Full context in case you're interested: I'm not here to make enemies with coffee shop workers. I'm the opposite, I like cafes and usually the folks that work in them. And I get it, you want it to be a place for people to converse in person. You're working quickly too and have a lot on you're managing a lot. But the issue is, there's no clear INDICATION of the policy. You can't have no clear signage (prominently placed with large text/ on the tables) and THEN enforce it. And the most senior leader working won't meet you with much kindness when you're frustrated. It's simple. If I knew no laptops, I would not have spent my cash ($6.50 for the latte and $2 for a tip). BEFORE purchasing my latte, I asked the barista at the register, "What's the wifi password?" The barista said "what's that?" (she didn't hear me). So I repeated, "The wifi, what's the password?" The response the barista told me was: "Sorry, we don't have Wifi." OK fine, no wifi. No problem, I smiled, purchased my item, and sat down. Used my cell hotspot and opened my laptop. After a couple minutes, a different barista came to enforce the laptop policy. She said I could sit outside (it was about to rain and colder than usual). I paused, and asked if there was a sign indicating no laptops. (I had looked around the store prior to get the wifi password, as you'll recall. I also wasn't told when I asked for the wifi that no laptops were not allowed, as you'll recall) The barista said "ummm...." and looked around "hmm...I think it's over there." And I said "Ok well I didn't see it, if there is one....." The barista replied: "yeah... we just don't allow laptops." I continued: "....yeah...I didn't see any signs though...." She continued to try to enforce the mystery laptop policy with me. I took a beat and turned my attention back to my laptop and book. I was frustrated because it was about to rain, and I had finally set up shop at a coffee place, about to launch into some deep focus work. I didn't want to walk in the rain to find another spot (which was option a). I also didn't want to try to fight for another parking spot a the end of the street (half a mile down) to near the other spot I like to go (Gregory's). A parking spot was not guaranteed. Upset that the lack of clarity or kindness, I packed up my laptop and book. Vibes were bad now. I couldn't focus now. The spot was not for me. And 30 minutes was not going to be enough time. While leaving, I stopped to the front desk. I explained that I only knew about the laptop policy AFTER I purchased my item and didn't see any signs. I asked for a refund for my $6.50 drink. (excluding $2 tip). The barista opened my cup and informed me it was half drunk and that they could not give me a refund. I paused. "OK." I was going to take the loss. It's not that deep. But I continued "Please make a sign to tell customers of the no laptop rule. I used to like this place." This is why customers leave certain businesses -- not just this one: a) lack of clear policies (like a clear sign with big text at the register + smaller signs with clear + large font) -- like what if I was an older person and it wasn't even easier for me to miss these signs, if any)? b) lack of clear communication (your staff didn't know the proper line when I asked for wifi before buying my item -- hey we unfortunately don't have wifi. We actually don't allow laptops here either either." c) kindness or empathy for the other person's perspective. something like: "hey i'm sorry, we don't allow laptops here. We have a couple of signs (point to the ones with big/readable text + here and on the table in clear font (no tiny cursive in size 10 -- and to be clear there was none of that in this situation, either). "You're welcome to sit outside or you can hang here for a little, 15 min or so to finish up whatever you're working on, but yeah... just have to inform customers of that..." (approaching it with kindness, and adding an exception or if this was my first "offense," which it was, like maybe a small free cookie or something). No customer wants to be met by laptop enforcement after purchasing your product and tipping you. This spot is no longer a top pick for me in Greenwich. It's nothing personal. It's just a means of operating that doesn't work for me. Gregory's Coffee down the block is significantly more WELCOMING. Good vibes, clear SIGNS on all their food, ect, (and wifi) read more

Plenty of seating since the cafe is deeper than it looks. A couple small tables outside as well. Pastries aren't something to write home about--there are plenty of other bakeries nearby that seem more promising. On a rainy day in Greenwhich I find myself here huddled in a brick alcove to write my best thoughts as I sip on an Earl Grey.
