This is only the second time I have ever taken the time to write a negative review. Always want to give the benefit of the doubt. Will start by saying the actual work they did to move trees away from our roof was fine. Not great, not bad. In a nutshell, salesman comes out and gives us a spiel and says we need WAY more work that we actually do. We meet somewhere in the middle. He takes $800 of our money ( half the money upfront) and says they are running two weeks behind. Fine. THREE weeks later WE call THEM and they say oh yea...another two weeks. We call back TWO weeks later and they say they have no record of us at all in their system. We say we have an exact time and date when our check cleared. They call back later saying oh yea we had your last name misspelled. We found you. We say come today or tomorrow or please give us our $800 back and we will go elsewhere. They finally come that day. They knocked down a wind chime and destroyed it. That happens, but they never bothered to tell us. They just left it crumpled on the grass for us to find. The piece de resistance??? They left our back gate WIDE OPEN and our two beloved dogs got out. NIGHTMARE!!!!! They are back safe and sound, but it could have been a disaster. Honestly they just really didn't give a crap. Was hesitant to write this, but now looking back at everything I am glad I did. I DO NOT recommend. read more

He sent me pictures of what needed to be done and I could really tell he cared about his work. His customer service is definitely a 5 star along with the work they did. I had some significant work that needed to be done. Multiple trees had to be removed, etc... I got four bids, and Greg Gunderson landed it with the right price for the right service. He promised to take care of quite a few extra "details" that the other companies didn't even mention. Well, my story is a long and sorted one, so in the interest of brevity -- after some confusion, another company came out and did part of the job. They had the exact same quoting process and software, etc... When they arrived, it was in an unmarked truck with a crew of day laborers. Nothing against day laborers, but that's not who I hired. In the end, it was a mess. Just sub-par quality work with a couple of mistakes that will never grow back. In comes Greg to save the day. He came and assessed the situation with me, and when his guys showed up, they were in a professionally marked truck with a huge chipper, all in company logo shirts, and able to communicate with me clearly and directly about the details of what needed to be done. BAM. Not only were all of them super cool, but they hammered it out and fixed everything right up. Good stuff. Don't be fooled by the slick arborist sales guys. I learned to do some research (or use Greg), and find out who will be the actual people laying hands (and saws) on your beloved, irreplaceable trees. read more

Yesterday, Certified removed a tree at our neighbors house near the street. Their gutter was nice & tidy in front of our neighbor;'s house.. Ours was not - debris from the tree, and a glove remained in our gutter. I called yesterday to have it cleaned up, and was told it would be by the end of the day today. This did not happen. I called again just now, and was informed that I was welcome to pick up. I would never use a tree service that responds in this way for clean up, or for the lack of attention to detail. They came out quickly to provide an estimate but stated their bookings were 4 weeks out. A client of mine booked with them to have their lot cleared, waited the 4 weeks and they never showed up. When called ask about it they said the arborist we booked with is no longer there and it would require another 4 weeks to get someone out. No thank you. I set up a full day of tree work with a crew of three men. I asked to see their insurance which the sales person Matthew said was really good. I asked to have copy sent to me and was told that they do not give copy because they do not want people to file a claim against them. I called office and asked for copy to be emailed to me. They had to get general managers approval. They never sent it. I asked salesman to bring me a copy to look at. He said he would bring it on the morning when he came with the crew to trim the trees. All this made me question whether they really had insurance. I canceled and had to call two weeks later to get my deposit back. read more

We had Certified Tree Care give us a quote after the Feb Winter Storms and it was pricey, but we put in a deposit and the work was supposed to be done sometime later that week. Well, the next day a different tree company happens to stop by and gives us a quote for a third of the price and says they can complete the work that afternoon. So we go with them. Meanwhile, we call Certified Tree Care to cancel the deposit and they can't do it over the phone. We have to speak to their arborist. So we do. He says he will get it cancelled. So has it been cancelled? Nope. I called 7 days after being told we would be refunded, and I was then told the refund needed managerial approval. (So first the aborist, now the manager?) But I was also told that they'd follow up with the manager and I should see the refund within a day. Well, it's been 10 days and I'm still waiting for $630 for services that were not rendered. So do I recommend this company? Nope. Not a chance. Hopefully they care for trees better than they care for potential customers. read more

The estimator missed the original appointment. Took about 3 weeks to get through that. Concerned that estimate was a low ball I asked for confirmation. No response. When I followed up the estimator admitted making mistakes on earlier estimates and requoted. When the crew finally showed up they left the limbs on the ground. No clean up. I find it really interesting that these guys changed their name from The Hisey Co. and suddenly have all these great reviews. Refer to http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-hisey-company-austin-5 Greg came out in fall of '15 to give us a quote on planting a new shade tree, a decorative tree, and trimming an existing old tree. He was nice enough, though he did tell me a nasty story involving another tree company who was coming to give me a quote, which I now suspect was not completely true. That should have been my first warning sign. We went ahead and started work with them anyways. First, the crew who came to trim the existing tree, didn't even know what they were there for. Greg had pointed out some fungus on one branch, which I pointed out to the guy leading the crew, and after cutting a ton of branches back, they completely skipped that specific branch. They also butchered my crepe myrtle and completely removed a photinia, which is not what we had discussed. Greg was not there when any of the crews showed up at any point, as he had promised he would be. Subsequent crews who came out didn't have equipment, didn't have all the plants, or didn't even know what they were there to do! Greg was sufficiently responsive at first, but it seemed that he was only focused on getting a contract signed and getting a check and had no responsibility to manage the job after that. The burr oak they planted lost all it's leaves and it took 2 MONTHS for someone to come out and decide whether it needed to be replaced and only after I finally lost my temper on Greg's voicemail. I understand people get busy, but I wasn't even getting a call back in those 2 months. They could have at least communicated an expected timeline. The burr oak did come back and seems to be thriving and a woman from Certified Tree Care did call in the spring. However, the work I had done wasn't with Certified Tree Care! I had no idea who she was AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHY SHE WAS CALLING ME. Ultimately, the communication at this business is pathetic. Don't even bother calling the main line after they have your money because you won't ever get in touch with someone who can help you or get a call back. If Greg hadn't given me his cell phone, I probably would have had to go there in person to get anything done. Even he seemed powerless to deal with problems that arose, as if his superiors were not allowing him to make decisions, but also not taking care of the problem themselves. My whole experience with them was infuriating disaster from start to finish. read more

Greg came out and helped us with two of our trees ravished by the snow from February. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and thorough. He educated us on continued care for the trees and carefully trimmed the dead branches; leaving new growth. We will definitely call Certified Tree again of our arborist needs. read more

This company is top notch. From my Arborist, Greg Gunderson who came out the next day after a 50 ft cedar fell on my roof to give me a great deal, to the the office manager who kept me informed during the day when a 98 foot pine on another job took longer than expected to Alex and his crew who did an AWESOME job, these guys are the best. I used them for my Oaks about 3 months ago and they did more than most companies. Cleaned out the dead ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP! They are professional, conscientious, trustworthy and VERY polite! This company stopped by our house unsolicited. They then show up to my house unsolicited to trim branches and remove hedges. I was not home when they performed the work. Neither my wife nor I agreed or scheduled an appointment for any work to be done. My wife called their office and asked the girl for proof we scheduled an appointment and who we spoke to. She said she needed to speak to her supervisor, Harlee, to get permission to send the email. Of course, they already received their money and no proof was ever sent. My wife was duped into paying for a service we didn't even request. These guys are lying sacks of garbage. Never contact us again. read more

By the looks of most of these reviews, you either really like them or you don't. With any expensive service it's important to listen to what they say they're going to do and be specific with what you want in return. The price wasn't cheap but we also had about 20 large oaks. It came out to about $250 a tree, which they spent two days working on. We had some damage from the ice storm. Our landscaper did a good job of picking up the limbs that had fallen but there were some serious tears that needed to be professionally cleaned up. I was given an estimate and paid half. I was told it might be a while before they got started because they were focused on emergency jobs. I will say it took longer (3 weeks) for them to come out and start the job than I think it should have. But they put in two full days with three guys and a supervisor. They did a beautiful job. They laced the oaks nicely and lifted the canopy a little higher to remove a lot of weight from the branches. Hopefully this will minimize further damage during another storm. They removed all of the debris. All of the workmen were polite, friendly and professional. read more

Absolutely horrible! Do not use! We contracted with the company to do some simple tree trimming of our Italian cypress around April 2021. The arborist, Adam (actually very knowledgeable) , came out and recommended we trim up our Maple as well because he said there was some damage from the Feb 2021 freeze. I said ok but stressed I just wanted it to be a light trim only since it was a beautiful tree we had trimmed up two years prior. I was not home when the tree trimmers finally came in August 2021. I was assured they had their marching orders and not to worry. When I arrived home I was shocked. They butchered trees that were not on the order and did not even touch the Italian Cypress I paid "half down to get their special deal." They massacred the beautiful maple by removing all of the large limbs at the trunk on one side facing the house. Not requested and not on the order. WHY?? I immediately called the company and sent pictures showing the damage. Adam came out to the house. He did not know why the tree trimmers did what they did. He assured me the crew would come back out and fix the job. I said absolutely no way and requested a full refund since they did not do most of the work we contracted and butchered other trees too, not just the maple. The company said they were sorry but there were issues with a refund since they did work at the house. WHAT?? Now after calling and requesting a refund with the company for 8+ months, I still don't have a resolution. I also have to pay another company almost $1,000 to remove a different tree, not the maple, Certified Tree Care was not supposed to touch, yet destroyed, because it can't regrow all of the limbs that were removed, again at the trunk, and looks ridiculous now. Certified Tree Care was going to charge me to remove this tree, BTW. I called this morning to get a resolution, again, and was told, again, someone would contact me. I have yet to be contacted to resolve the issue. RUN!!! read more

Overall, Certified Tree Care was great and did a job well done. The only issue I had, and the reason my review is a 4 instead of a 5, is that I had a call a few times to schedule and didn't get a call back right away. Our arborist is Ryan, and he was great about walking us through the health of our trees and what needed to be done to help with longevity. Once I was able to speak with someone, she quickly got me scheduled and the crew showed up in a timely manner. They worked quickly and efficiently. We had a great experience with Certified Tree Care. They were willing to negotiate price based on a few other quotes we received. When I mentioned some leftover ball moss during the walk through, they didn't hesitate to get back up there and literally get every single piece. They cleaned up after themselves and even cut up larger pieces of limbs for us to use as firewood. During the Great Texas Snow Storm of 2021 we didn't lose a single twig to ice. Great experience with Bryan and Sean! We used this company after my inlaws used them for oaks in their backyard which had been left unruly for a while. After they had a great experience with Bryan and his team we decided to get a quote after the snowstorm/damage that was done. Bryan was very honest, mentioned we should wait a little longer to see what growth would happen over the next 4-6 weeks etc. We moved forward with them and because we were out of town when they came to cut, we had actually wanted a little less privacy than they left with the trees. After a quick call Bryan had Sean come out for a revisit, he happily cut out/thinned out more from a few more trees. If you are looking for thorough and fairly priced tree maintenance, this is the company to choose. From start to finish, Jay took such good care of us and was always immediately responsive to any questions or concerns we had before the job started. From the initial consultation to the finished product, everything went perfectly. We have three Ash trees that are sadly in their old age and in need of removal. That's not in the budget for us, currently, so Jay made sure to to take his time thoroughly surveying the situation so that the trees don't present a hazard to our or our neighbor's properties. Once the crew showed up and gave us the projected two day job schedule, they worked literally from sun up to sundown and had it completed in one day. The yard looked like a war zone when I arrived home, and when they were all finished, it was in tip top shape and looked amazing! They left everything looking better than when they arrived, by far. Above and beyond is the only way to describe the job they did. We will be in need of future services and I will definitely be using this company again. Yelp has my location wrong for some reason. I am actually in the North Texas area and was serviced by the Ft Worth office. After calling Thomas directly, I finally received a call back from the Austin office. At first they said the payment was only showing on their books once but agreed to check closer when I was adamant that the withdrawal showed twice on my bank account. They called back shortly and said they had found where the payment was applied to two companies. It seems checks are processed at the local office (which I assume would have been Ft Worth) and at the Austin office. The matter has been resolved and my bank account has been credited but my rating does not change. It took way too long to get thsi resolved mainly due to a lack of response from the local customer service. I am also a bit iritated that they would only accept a paper check which they converted to electronic (posted twice) for their own convenience and managed to cause an extra inconvenience to me. read more

I was pleased with the speed of scheduling the appointment for a bid and the price. But, I was disappointed that the crew didn't complete all the work we agreed to. Even on a return visit the crew did not finish all the work discussed and the company said the equipment necessary for one set of trees was broken. The field crew and the office team do not seem to share information. Multiple phone calls were necessary for rescheduling and even then they provided less than 24 hours notice when they were going to visit. With a little better communication and notice I could have been home to help point out the missed trees. Instead I plan to call another company to complete the project. read more

Awful experience. The job they said would take a day took over a week. They damaged a patio, an electrical box, siding, and the roof. Unfortunately, we only planned to be home one day so most of the time we were not home. They sent someone to fix the roof the next week, but the materials used were the wrong size and they stand out. It took them over 2 months to fix the patio. We didn't notice the chipped siding right away, but it is in line with the known roof damage. My son saw them damage the electrical box and just pick it up and pretend like it never happened. These issues were small compared to the other repairs and we let them go. Now, almost 4 months later we have noticed damage to another part of the roof. It actually has a puncture through the shingle and wood which has cause a section of wood to rot. I am almost certain they did this since they never acknowledged the electrical box or siding, but since we have no proof we are stuck with a bill. I was stupid and paid with a check so no way to withhold the payment. Stay away from these people unless you can watch them every minute! read more

The trimming that was done was great and pretty close to how we would wanted. The big snag was when the crew started trimming trees around the power lines and the electricity went out. Not a big deal, Oncor was called and came out. My problem was that I was told by the arborist that did the estimate that he would be on site the day of our trimming. He was here for about 5 minutes in the morning and then left for another job. While Oncor was here, they went to cutting more trees than they needed to and we lost a huge branch on a tree that should not have been cut and now have a gaping hole in our canopy and way too much direct sun on our back porch. Had the arborist been here during the day, he would have been aware of what was being cut and been able to circumvent the loss of a huge branch. read more

Our tree split in half due to a lightning storm. I was referred to Certified Tree Care by a friend. Greg Gundersen came out to give us a bid. He was very professional and helped trim the fallen branches back till we could schedule a time for the whole tree to be taken down. It was so sad as we had this tree for over 20 years. I must say I thought it was gonna be a challenge to have our trees trimmed seeing a how we live out of state. But recently a neighbor of ours in Georgetown let's us know of a local company that trimmed their trees recently. Certified Tree Care was contacted they gave us a fair bid via email and we gladly accepted. They cleaned our trees about a month ago and yesterday we came home to beautifully manicured trees..The clean up was awesome and most importantly all the wounds were sealed up. Salesman said it would take three weeks to get to my job and charged half up front. Six weeks, and many phone calls later, a crew finally showed up for work preliminary to a stump grinding. After 15 minutes of work that day, they wanted me to pay the remaining portion of the bill despite the sales agreement stating remainder due upon completion of work. I refused. Finally, a week later the stump grinder shows up. We then find out the salesman misjudged an obstruction and the grinder couldn't reach the stump. The workman offered to remove it manually but 'the office' refused to let him do that. I end up with seven weeks of wasted time and a large bill the salesman structured so that the simple work was actually two thirds of the cost and the stump grinding was one third. My fault for not questioning this at the time but the agreement is filled out electronically and scrolled through quickly to where you sign. Makes me think he had a good idea the stump grinding wasn't going to happen, yet they'd get a good chunk of money. The salesman was supposed to be an arborist but if he was, he wasn't forthcoming with his knowledge. Apparently, stump grinding as opposed to root removal is not a good idea for this particular species of tree as the roots are very resilient and will send up new offshoots. read more

Matthew came out and give us a quote to have our trees trimmed. He is an arborist and seemed knowledgeable about oaks. He has done work for someone we know and based on the above, decided to give them the work. The first crew showed up on a Thursday. They did not have a chipper with them and said they would be putting the trimmings on a flatbed trailer. The crew worked most of the day. By the end of their day they had not completed what was on our scope of work. They also left branches and trash laying around and we later discovered they did not seal all of the cuts. They told us they would return the next day, Friday, to pick up what was left behind. They didn't show the next day so we called Matthew. He told us he would call us on Saturday to let us know if a crew would be out on Monday. No call. We called Matthew on Monday and he said he could get a crew out to our house that day. When the crew showed up they said they had been moved to our job from another job. It was obvious the second crew was not happy with what the first crew had left behind and the number of trees that had not been trimmed. I went out to talk to the lead crew member and he received a phone call that was obviously checking to see if they were almost done with our job as they had another one to get to. I had a work call and had to back in the house. They crew left while I was on my call. When I went back out to check the job they had left branches and had not sealed all of the cuts. Again, this crew did not have a chipper and were trying to get all of the trimmings onto a flatbed trailer. I texted Matthew pictures of the branches and trimmings left behind. He said he would have someone come out to clean them up. I also mentioned the lack of sealing on the cuts. This work was done in January and I reached out to Matthew several times and did not get a response. We are very disappointed in the lack of customer service provided by Certified Tree Care and Matthew. We had neighbors who wanted their trees trimmed and do not feel comfortable recommending this company. read more
