This company was incapable of installing an ordinary ceiling fan. The electrician left the job unfinished saying he needed to order a part and the company didn't call back to reschedule or to give me an update. I called them after a week or so and they still had not ordered the part. After that, my home warranty company tried to call them but they wouldn't respond. A very abbraisive tech was sent - who spent first 30 mins complaining about the wrong fixtures provided. (even though pics sent to CET a week before) then charged for30 mins for a min over. I had an issue with a dryer that constantly tripped our breaker. These guys came out and replaced the breaker with a "new" one that seemed to work for a while. Eventually, however, the problem started happening again and I could hear crackling noises from the breaker when the dryer was on. Another electrician took a look and told me that the breaker they installed was defective and from the looks of it was even older than the one they replaced. So, because HSA home warranty sent the cheapest electricians they could find, my house could've been set on fire and I had to deal with the same issue and pay another repair bill. read more

Our problem was a fire alarm in our basement that was constantly alarming. Josh the electrical technician is a great guy and quite professional. He came to our house twice over the course of 3 days to try to fix the problem. He ended up replacing all the fire alarms in our house. The problem was that the fire alarm in our basement was still alarming even after the replacements. The major problem with this company, and the reason you should avoid them, is their incredibly unprofessional supervisor staff. In trying to explain to the supervisor that the original problem had not yet been fixed (i.e. the fire alarm in the basement was still alarming constantly), I was told by the supervisor that I was "wasting her time" and that the job had been completed. She dismissively referred me back to my warranty company. She kept talking over me, interrupting me and I got the impression that she would soon hang up on me if I did not just give up and end the conversation. It was shocking how rude she behaved. Completely unacceptable customer service. Go elsewhere for your electrical issues. This company doesn't get it. read more

I wish I did better with grabbing names because the entire process with this company was outstanding. I was provided this company for a second opinion thru my Home Warranty. Thank goodness! I had to push back my date due to training at my new job and they were understanding. Even called when an opening came up to see if I was able to take it and sent text reminders. The knowledgable electrician came out and had a great personality. He determined the problem that the other company didn't even think to look at. He spent more time diagnosing the problem compared to the other company that was here for 5 minutes and told me all my outlets need to be changed out and Home Warranty probably wouldn't approve it. My tech today said it wasn't the outlets but the light switch! He explained the situation clearly, changed out a light switch, and provided the invoice which was legible! He didn't mind my noisey dogs and even talked to them. By the end of the appointment my dogs were quiet and I have electricity in my room again! My warranty company assigned me to Certified Electrical and they set up an appointment for a few days later. I had to call twice to get the appointment but overall it was fairly easy. I asked if they could give me a hour heads up and they said sure even through its typically only a 30 minute heads up. Phil called me 30 minutes before he got to my house but said that he didn't see the note about an hour heads up and was ok with waiting if he had too. I hate when people wait on me so I wrapped up at work and met him. He's a chatty fellow but good conversation. I barely got any work done but who cares....I had Phil to talk too...lol. He was speedy and even had the parts on hand to replace my exhaust fan. I also called out about my front light but he couldn't find an issue with it. We had CET out to perform an estimate after a friend recommended them. Steve, the electrician that came out to the house, was great. No issues with him and I'm confident he would have done a fine job if we'd gone with CET, which we would have done, had it not been for Gary Epstein. Gary was *terrible* to interact with. My wife and I just bought a house are looking at doing a service upgrade. The current panel, and cable run, is in an odd location, so I was expecting the work to be a bit more involved than a typical heavy-up. When trying to explain the situation to Gary (explaining why I wanted to pay to have an estimate done, which he said they don't normally do) these are some of the choice comments he had: "I hope you got one hell of a concession from the seller to take this on." "I'm getting a lot of contradictory information from you, I can't help but feel like there's information you're withholding." "You must have had a terrible home inspector." What a great way to talk to new homeowners and prospective clients! How about something like "I'm having a hard time understanding the situation, but let's get somebody go out to the house, I'm confident we can come up with a solution to resolve any issues." We had 2 other services come out to give us estimates. Neither batted an eye at the situation or the work we wanted done. Both had infinitely better customer service and response times. Steve, while he was out doing his assessment in the morning, suggested we might get the estimate that afternoon. It took Gary a week to get us something. In defense of the long wait, Gary told us "Steve shouldn't have given you a time, he doesn't know our estimate back-log." But...I thought you didn't usually do estimates Gary? TL;DR: Gary's atrocious customer service cost CET our patronage. He was rude, abrasive and offensive and I have zero interest in giving him any more of my money. read more

I live in NW Washington DC. I've been using Certified Electric for about 2 years now for various projects and they always perform well. My favorite thing about them is that they always send Dave. He's a knowledgeable professional and I like that I get the same technician every time as he knows my house now. This last time, he installed a ceiling fan for me, installed an outlet high on the wall for my mounted TV and replaced a plug in the garage. I always think of more things I want done between the time I schedule and the time they come so when he comes, he always makes me prioritize as they only allot certain hours for certain projects. So make sure when you schedule, you give them a full list of what you want done. They are clean, reasonably priced, professional, knowledgeable and always on time. read more

We called them after hours on Friday the 23rd- (next day is Christmas Eve) and left a message with a real person who took all the information and said someone would call the next day-(Christmas Eve) and they did and we scheduled for today, the 27th. We were told it would be between 12 and 4 pm. They called about 12:30 and were on their way. Completely and effectively figured out the problem in our rental unit (renters using too much electricity with too many appliances and frying outlets) replaced what was needed and were very nice and professional. I take off a half day from work for this awfully long appointment window of four hours and 15 minutes into the second hour I get a phone call that the technician couldn't make it in to my appointment. Ok. So what do you do to make that up to me? Schedule a new appointment in the evening so that I don't have to lose more work time or offer me 10% off my service when it gets rescheduled? No... There was no offer of anything compensatory or any assistance with scheduling more convenient appointments. My business obviously doesn't matter to this company. I was fiddling with the circuit breaker unit and broke one of the switches (it would not move out of the neutral position). I had an onsite maintenance person verify the issue and we both determined it needed to be replaced. I called Certified Electrical Technologies on a Friday after finding them on a paid subscription website that shall remain nameless. They had the highest rating and the most reviews. Steve, the dispatcher, said they could come as early as Monday. I also verified with Steve that the circuit breaker issue would not cause immediate problems in my home. Steve seemed knowledgeable and I later found out that he used to be a local technician but moved away and the company decided to keep him on as the dispatcher. I called several times and each time Steve answered the phone. I like this more personalized service and I also like that the dispatcher is a qualified electrician and can provide accurate responses over the phone. They do require a credit card to reserve an appointment. They provide a four hour window for the technician to arrive and you are required to answer the phone when they call to say they are on their way. If you don't answer, they will cancel the appointment. Cancellations must take place 24 hours in advance. Steve walked me through all of these details over the phone prior to booking. The day of my appointment, I called Steve in the morning to verify when someone might arrive and he said around 9:30 am. I received a call from the technician at 9:45 am to tell me he would be at my home within 30 minutes. He arrived on time, had clean shoes, and a clean work bag (I cannot tell you how many times people have shown up with dirty shoes and supplies from other companies). The technician moved quickly and spoke very clearly and was straightforward. Embarrassingly enough, the technician went over to the circuit breaker and flipped the switch and it was working. It must have fixed itself because it was definitely broken. Since I was going to be charged for at least 30 minutes I had him also check an outlet that I thought I been broken for 5 years. He flipped a nearby light switch and it was working again. I also had him test some electrical outlets throughout my home and asked him general questions. He also reconnected my smoke alarm. Even though the work was easy, I could tell that the technician knows his stuff and is fair and has integrity. There was no hemming and hawing. I got very straight answers and the transaction was easy. The company appears to be an upstanding and professional company and from the questions I asked, the employees seem to stick around. The technician has worked for the company for 16 years and as I mentioned the dispatcher has stayed with the company through a relocation, etc. Certified Electrical Technologies charges approx $96 for the first 30 minutes and approx $47 for each 30 minutes thereafter. I found some less expensive companies but I had a good feeling about my interaction over the phone so I decided to pay this rate for the peace of mind. read more

I usually don't post reviews and everyone needs to know how worst this whole company is when it comes to customer service. The technician ( people looks rude when they don't smile when you first meet them) came to house to fix the tube light which clearly need to be replaced. But his attitude was not to replace it but fix it. Some how according to him, he fixed it and was very happy that our problem is resolved. But after few days, the tube lights fell down. Thank God no body was not in kitchen at that time and tragedy was avoided. We become very angry and called them to let them know. But same guy came with same attitude, Instead of admitting his mistake, he is blaming us that we intentionally made it fall and rip the socket instead of admitting his fault and left. And he was very rude while saying this in front of our kids. Afterward, we call their office and Lisa was more rude than technician while talking with us. We have Launched a complaint against them with AHS. If it does not work, we will try to sue them for putting our life in danger and against Technician who used foul language in front of our kids. In the meantime, if somebody from CET is reading this review, i openly ask them to call us to solve this matter peacefully. Overall, i do not have good experience due to their poor work ethics and worst customer service. PS: The technician was also supposed to fix smoke detector which he refused to do it because he thought it is bugs which are causing the problem. Now i am doubtful for his judgement. Had a "certified" electrician replaces our electrical panel, the electrician "forgot" to informed us that the electrical panel cannot be placed in the bathroom and need to be relocated. Called the manager to try to solve the problem, the manager was racist and told me that they informed my dad that it was going to be a problem if we don't relocate it. He even claimed that my father chose to ignore it. According to the manager's words my father speaks decent English but act like he doesn't understand when he doesn't like what he hears, very racist. Manager end up telling me to go somewhere else to have it relocated and hung up on me. It was the manager of Rockville/Potomac area. The manager who was there around June 2011. I also had an outlet installed in the ceiling in the garage for the door opener. very reasonably priced and they bill by the half hour. I will use them again if and when the time comes. My home warranty sends lots of service companies (for whatever I need fixing) and I've found Allen at Certified to have the most positive attitude about his work. Through the warranty, Allen has fixed my ceiling fan and doorbell. I have also had Certified (Allen) install recessed lights in my basement and in a closet. A friend highly recommended CET and so we were very interested in hiring them to do electrical work in our home. Steve, the technician who came to the house to do an estimate, was perfectly pleasant and seemed very competent. However, most of our interactions with CET were with Gary, the owner. Gary is rude, duplicitous, and seems to be intent on driving customers away. He was reluctant to provide service to us and angrily accused of us to lying to him about the electrical set up in our home (what possible reason could we have to lie?). When we called or sent him an email, it would take days, or sometimes as long as a week, for him to respond. When he did respond, he lied to us about why it took so long for him to respond - it became quite clear that he simply didn't like us. He even admitted later that if we had decided to follow through on hiring CET for the work in our home, they wouldn't have taken the job. Seriously? You are so ornery that you would turn away paying customers for no reason? We hired another company. They were speedy, professional, highly knowledgeable, and did an excellent job on installing lighting, fixing some wiring, and doing a heavy up. I have zero doubts that had we hired CET for this work, it would have been a painful and slow experience working with them. They may be competent electricians, but Gary has NO idea how to work with customers or carry out a pleasant business transaction. Because of our experience with CET, the friend who originally recommended them will never hire them again. Other customers should also know that Gary falsely advertises his business as being accredited by the Better Business Bureau. I wish I could give a review for the Tech that come to my house and the lady that I spoke with on the phone they were GREAT!!!! However the owner Gary, is the worst person to deal with he yelled and cursed at me over the phone. When I left work yesterday at 4pm I had 3 missed calls at 305pm from an unsaved number (I assumed it was CET tech) so I called the number back and it was the tech, I gave him my information so he would know who I was and could locate the work order, He said that he had tried to call me. I told him I just left work and I had given his office another name and number of someone that was going to be at home if they could give you the updated information, he said that he called his office after I didn't answer and asked if there was another number to call his manager Gary told him No. So I called the office Gary the owner of the company answered the phone I told him who I was and other info so he also could look up the work order after he confirmed he had the information pulled up I asked why when the tech called and asked him if there was any other numbers on this work order he told the tech there was no additional numbers that he could provide. He started yelling at me saying that my number was the only number that was on file and the tech called me several times. I told Gary I know that he (the tech) called I have already called and spoke with him then Gary interrupted me cursing and yelling "Do you have a F**KING question lady" I replied I already asked my question again interrupted with cursing and yelling that I was the only F**KING person on the work order to contact so I don't know what the hell you want me to do lady. I told him that I called at 11:50am and gave another name and number. He said that I didn't, I told him that I did and that the way he was speaking to me is uncalled for; and I did call to give. Again interrupting me with more yelling asking if I was talking about the number I left that belongs to G****** (not putting him name on here). I said yes while he was still yelling at me that the tech has called both of us several F**KING hours and we never answered the phone I asked him why he said that there was no other number and that the tech did call me three times but I was at work that is why I called an gave the other number of someone that was going to be home. Gary started to yell and curse at me some more so I asked to speak to him manager he responded with "I OWN THIS F**KING COMPANY" and hung up the phone I called back imminently and when the lady answered the phone I asked to speak with Gary she asked if it was anything that she would be able to help me with I said NO I want to speak with Gary the owner of the company. She transferred me then the phone rang once and hung up. So I called back again this time the lady I spoke with when I originally called she helped me and apologized that I had to go thru what I just did. she was extremely helpful and nice!!! A few weeks ago, I lost power in a portion of my house. Fiddling with the circuit breaker did not correct the problem, so I knew I needed an electrician. I have a home warranty company, but sometimes they don't cover everything. I called anyway, and they put me in touch with Certified Electrical Technologies in Gaithersburg. Rather than trading a lot of phone messages, or having my phone messages ignored completely, CET actually answered the phone and set up an appointment for me within a reasonable amount of time. The office staff was courteous and knowledgeable. They provided a window of time in which the electrician would arrive; and, low and behold, he called me when he was on his way and came well within the time frame established. He worked very hard to determine the problem and then explained the solution clearly. Because the repair was not covered by my warranty company, the electrician needed to return - again that was scheduled within a reasonable amount of time, and again, he called when he was on his way. He finished the work quickly - and did not even need to disturb the drywall, which would have been another expense. I don't know if they can do that in every case, but they could for me, and I am grateful. I would recommend them to anyone who needs electrical work done. read more

My Home Warranty company assigned this company to me. The staff is incredibly rude, incompetent and disrespectful. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. When they asked me what the problem was, I told them that it was either a bad electrical outlet or a bad light switch, but I know very little about electrical problems so it could be one or both that are bad. I did mention that the outlet was going on and off intermittently but again could be more than one issue. When the Tech showed up he seemed angry from the minute he walked into the house. He tested the outlet and said it's working fine, I asked him to check the light switch and he said there is an issue, it's not getting any power but he would not fix it. When I asked "why not?" He said that he was only authorized to fix what was written on the work order. The work order written by the staff person who made the appointment wrote down that it was an intermittent issue with the electrical outlet, (no mention of the light switch) and since he didn't find a problem with the outlet he was done and he walked out of the house to call his company. The staff person told him I was wrong and he left without fixing anything. He did say I would have to put in another service order for the light switch. That means I would have to pay for 2 service calls and wait another week to have a different company take care of the issue. The person who made the appointment didn't put all the details in the work order and somehow that was my fault. I did have AHS on the phone but he wouldn't talk to the AHS representative. He finally got on the phone with AHS and said he was "not fixing anything, I have other appointments to go to". He was so disrespectful and angry, I will never agree to have this company assigned to me again and a supervisor with AHS is now going to have to sort this out.
