This company came out and provided us a quote to perform electrical work. Because of shipping backlogs. We just received some parts almost a year after they provided the quote. We reached out to see if they would perform the work and they wrote back no we don't want to get involved in your project. Very unprofessional and poor customer service. Tristar Electric came to install a ceiling fan, fix a ceiling fan, and then to replace defective under-cabinet lighting. The work was effective and the charges reasonable for electrician work. The fact that they have only substantial trucks makes it hard for them to get jobs done in the rowhouse neighborhoods of the District. They came to my house because my kitchen lights were not working. When they came, there was nothing wrong with the switch nor wiring .They turned on the little thingy that probably my kids turned off. And they charged me 90$ plus a quarter of an hour for turning on that little basic control in the switch. That was 130$. I called Greg and told him that they charged me too much because they just didn't do any fixing. Greg hanged up on me!!! Very unprofessional and asking too much money !!!!! I felt i was scammed! I had used this company before, and had a very nice electrician in the past. This job, when I called, I specifically asked them to send someone who was vaccinated. I stayed home, waiting. And when he rang, I asked to confirm if he was vaccinated. He was NOT. He came in and did the work, masked, but when I called the company after, the owner was extremely rude about it and said "I'm not a Dr." " I can't check who's vaccinated", and pushed back very rudely. My husband is a cancer survivor, and am upset that this happened, but more upset that the owner could care less!!!! read more

When I moved into my house this year I had TRI STAR come out and put in a heavy up system in my house. They replaced the entire power panel. Fast foward a few short months and I had my Outside A/C unit replaced and found out that it kept tripping my breaker. So I called Tri Star, they came out and said my fuses were bad outside, and they charged me $130 for that information by the way. Well, a second TRI STAR tech came out and told me that e fuses were not bad. (don't worry, the second price of information was free) After getting fed up with TRI STAR, I took a fluke and checked the system. The capacitor and it was pulling 10.6 amps. The amp draw at the indoor breaker was 10.5 amps so that all checked out fine. Well after further research I found out that I had a bad 40 amp breaker because it was getting overheated and melting the wires. Now yes, I understand breakers go bad, but this is a brand new panel, and when i checked the other breakers, they all looked new and fresh, but the bad 40 amp breaker that kept tripping was dirty, scratched up, and was used(before it made it in my system). So to recap, they charge me $130 for contradicting information from two different techs that never solved my problem. Oh, I had to buy my own fuses and breaker. read more

Tri Star recommended installation of a surge protector. Within two weeks, a surge blew out a computer, Tried for almost two years to return the surge protector and called multiple times. The company kept stalling, saying they would call me back and never did. Tri Star never followed through. With so many honest companies in the area, I would recommend against hiring this company. Integrity goes a long, long way in my book and this company has none. read more

The technicians that showed up were clean and knowlegeable. The problem is when I booked the job, replace a fan in my kitchen, I was told $180 flat. It wouldn't matter if they got something out of their truck. At the end of the job, because they replaced the electrical box, they added $50 to the job. To me a flat rate job is a flat rate job. It seems you can't trust the quote they give you. I'm giving them 3 stars only for the technicians that showed up. read more

Can't say enough great things about Tri Star Electric! Had called another outfit (DMV) who never called me back. Called Tri Star and they ended up sending a crew out that same day (Dustin was the senior guy and he had a helper named Kirby). My Honey-Do List was overflowing with electric work and Dustin nailed 'em all, including fixing 2 outside outlets that had stopped working, troubleshooting a particularly problematic track light unit over our kitchen sink, AND figuring out and fixing two "dead outlets" that haven't worked in the 4 years since we bought our home! We've found our Go-To Electrician in Columbia. UPDATE: I asked for a price on running power for a ceiling fan in our master bedroom, and Dustin left us a detailed but easy to read estimate with 3 options/price levels that he also patiently talked me through before leaving. Don't know that this is standard treatment, but this guy went over and above the entire time he was in our house. On everything he did. And managed to do it while consistently mentoring his young helper. "This why you call a professional." My wife is SO happy those kitchen lights are working again. read more

- Generac generator system (aprox 7 years old/periodically maintained by another company) was starting to run rough, weekly test run was struggling to startup and system had outstanding warranty issue. Also never worked well with UPSs (uninterruptible power supplies). Output from generator was never very clean and UPS would not charge while on generator power (House loses power multiple times per year for several hours at a time). - Tristar performed effective and efficient maintenance on Generac generator. - Tristar Technicians were very knowledge with Generac equipment, had replacement battery in van and replaced (startup problem resolved). - Following maintenance, system now runs smoother/quieter and issue with UPS is no longer an issue. This alone has saved me over $400 (UPS with double conversion and generator mode are expensive). Great job! - Technicians also wore masks and maintained effective Covid protocols throughout. read more

These guys are AMAZING! I got a pool installed this summer, the original electrician that hooked up my pump didn't do a good job and I couldn't pass inspection. I called TriStar and Brendan from the pool department was my savior! Brendan came to my home, assessed my situation and provided me an affordable remediation plan.
