We contracted Meyer Electrical Services, Inc. for a large project after seeing their reviews and the owner in person. We were promised a detailed, clean, professional and no-cut-the-corners work. Though the proposal/estimate was the most expensive we received for this particular work, we hired Meyer Elec. Serv. Inc. However at the end due to several reasons working with them it left a bitter taste in addition to expenses which were completely due to the team's mistakes and not owning responsibility. First, even though the first estimate says 60 days to accept, after 10 days, they sent an updated second estimate with a significant price increase. Probably this first sign should have been enough but we continued working with them. The work went slow. After a main step was completed we informed them that the AC unit (compressor) was not working. Our email exchange did not lead to any resolution and the next day we had to get our AC service person who found the problem about the loose AC cable connection on the electrical panel. This was a serious problem. It was interesting to hear the owner saying someone is lying (i.e. us, our AC contractor, or his team) since no one had worked on or modified the electrical panel during our ownership of the house for more than 7 years. Why not assume responsibility and pay the repair bill or send someone to fix it before dropping the ball? Our mistake was adding a whole house protector to the already large project which distracted the team probably as they only knew/focus one thing and made several mistakes with that protector. At the end, the protector is not installed exactly the original manufacturer instructed. Due to all these, we requested the owner (and the master electrician) inspecting the panel physically, which never happened. Another hassle was, for some reason, they skipped the second shed unit when it was on paper in the original agreement. We heard, "oh we wont install it". Hmm, why exactly? It took more than 3 weeks and several emails to convince them and have it installed as it should have been already done according to the agreement. It was also interesting to hear excuses about the order and shipping. To us it was more like let's forget about it you dont need it. Finally after the main work finished in 1.5 months since we sent the check, the inspector approval was merely a photo inspection (is this even accepted for this project??) even though an appointment was made. The inspection missed the 2nd shed installation where the color of the ground cable was non-conformant and any other missed problems. From a literal start, it took exactly one month and a lot of hassle to finish the work which should have finished in one week according to the contract. read more

My Pepco meter box needed re-attaching to my house after a siding repair. Previously, the box was snugly attached within a frame on the siding. The Meyer electrician carelessly re-attached the box more than a full 2" below where it was, at the top of the frame (see photos). The box's misplacement now interferes with waterproofing the siding of my house, so I am now taking bids from other electricians just to raise the box. Upon seeing the photographs after the repair below, a contractor of my acquaintance commented, "That does look a bit shabby." I sent Walt Meyer an email with the photographs, with the comment that nobody should be proud of the job. His only response was to send me my paid invoice. Shabby is part of the company ethic. One review starts with "Don't do it. Just plain do it." I concur. The company takes no pride in its work. While the technicians were fine even if they did leave a mess of trash that should have been removed when they left, the owner of the company (Walt Meyer) was unbelievably unprofessional. This is actually the worst experience I have had with a service provider and I have had many experiences, mostly good. I won't go into this almost abusive behavior but if he had not had a substantial deposit for an expensive job, I would have fired him. After the job was finished (many, many weeks after the promised completion date), I check with the Better Business Bureau and this company gets a failing grade so I guess I am not alone. read more

Found this company on the internet and picked them because of the lengthy experience they appeared to have dealing with varied electrical issues and esp. heated floors. They came in to correct another contractor's electrical work on a radiant floor that was tripping the GFCI and also to move a chandelier and add an additional recessed light over the kitchen sink. The guys showed up on time. Seemed to know what they were doing. Focused completely on their work and not their phones or personal calls. They were as neat as possible and were finished quickly. I called Meyer Electrical Services 8 days ago. I spoke to the owner who said he was out in the field, & asked me to send an email. I did, including a description of the problem & 2 photos. Over the course of a few days, I sent another email & 2 text messages asking for a response. Twice, I indicated that if he was too busy, perhaps he could refer me elsewhere. I also indicated that I was a returning customer. I received absolutely no response. Meyer Electrical Services apparently has no interest in customer relations. I do not recommend them. read more

I reached out to Walt to install a dryer outlet. He got the job scheduled quickly and I was thrilled to get it done fast. I asked for a quote and was told one would be provided - but that didn't happen. Without providing a quote or calling me to explain anything, his team finished the job and then charged nearly $1,000. There was an additional outlet install but was not explained to us why it was necessary. Research from reputable online sources estimated the job to be between $150-300, depending on the length of copper wire ($300 for 30 ft of wire). When I called Walt to ask why the work was carried out without a quote, or if it was common practice to charge people $1,000 without giving them a heads up, he began to berate me and literally SCREAM at me, telling me what I read online was "not real". I repeatedly asked for him not to yell at me and asked if this was his common business practice - to which he got more angry and demanded I pay him immediately (when I asked how he would like to be paid). I would seriously advise AGAINST using Walt / Meyer and will be spreading my experience to help others avoid them same mistake. read more

Just has a horrible experience with this company. I scheduled an appointment for today from 9:30 - 10am with their office for a chandelier to be hung. They just told me to email the electrician with my specific location, which I did. When the time for the appointment passed with no show, I called to see if they were still planning to visit. The electrician, named Walt, was rude and said... "you never confirmed... so I'm not coming!" I said, "I'm sorry... never confirmed what?" He said he sent me something to confirm the price and since I didn't respond (I never received anything from him) he wasn't going to show up. However, I had already confirmed the price with he person I spoke with on the phone. Walt continued to be rude and blame me, even though this was already confirmed and I had done nothing wrong other than try to work with them. I can't believe how rude he was to me and am shocked this is how he treats his customers. read more

Got connected to Meyer Electrical through Kohler to install a backup generator for our home. To be fair, this was not the smoothest transaction, but I want to be clear that Walt and his team remained committed to getting things right and did, which is what matters. Holidays and storms meant an installation much later than we'd intended, which wasn't their fault. A few things in the installation weren't just right, and some goofy things in our panel/wiring meant that they had to make more trips and spend more time than is probably standard or preferred. All that said, the entire team was quick to respond and come out to make things right. Sadly, four weeks ago, we called and found a convenient time for Meyer and us to do some routine generator maintenance at our home. On the agreed date, he doesn't show up, no phone call, no email, nothing. And when we call to try to reschedule, Meyer hangs up on us and sends an email inviting us to write a review. After driving an hour from Maryland to DC, I park my car and get a call from Walt stating that the parking conditions are unacceptable, he wouldn't do the job, and then he hung up on me. Beware. i used him to repair a Kohler Generator where he claims to be factory authorized. The generator was not working and he stated it needed some basic maintenance. Change the oil etc... he noted wrongly it was sinking and wires were exposed all false. He left stating it was good to go. The power goes out at the house and I call him back because it did not turn on. He charged for another service call and said the "controller" needed to be replaced. I asked would that fix it and he was certain. The controller was replaced and he said we were good to go. Well guess what - the power goes out and it doesn't work. I call again and ask him to come out. He now says we need a new switch and that will cost $2k along with another service call fee. Each time he "fixed" it I asked him if it would work and he said yes. He NEVER made sure it was fixed before it was left. Either he knew that or he is incompetent. I do believe it's the later as another company fixed the problem for less than $100. Here is the kicker. He refuses to take credit cards so I paid him almost $4,500! Hey Walt I did file a case with small claims court and look forward to seeing you again so we can settle this. Dont use him. I should have known better to use someone that does not take credit cards. read more

Don't do it. Just plain don't do it. After reading the reviews we were excited to work w Walt's team. They put in a new electrical thermostat and within 3 days we had no heat at all. We called Walt to ask him to double check and he became quite rude insisting that it could not be an electrical issue. Really? The furnace has been working fine ever since we moved in 10 years ago, we replaced the thermostat and now it doesn't turn on. Again, quite rudely he insisted it could not be an electrical issue. Ok ok. So we pay an emergency fee for a furnace expert to come out and guess what? It's an electrical issue. It's not that bad that he guessed wrong, but that Walt was so rude about not being willing to double check. I should add in that after Walt denied our request to come back to the house, we did in fact follow his advice and payed for a plumber. He promptly noted that there was an electrical issue and we should call an electrician - again back to where we started. We went through Yelp, found another electrician who was more than happy to come out to the house and fixed the problem Walt was happy to install, not so happy to come back and double check once a problem occurred. If you are pretty sure that everything will go great first time around - call this group. They are friendly and did a good job. Just used this firm for first time, for fairly small job, installing a replacement down light and evaluating dimmer issue. I emailed his firm - on a Sunday no less - heard back quickly - and we set a date for a visit. Sent his assistant electrician - small firm - who as promised called when on his way over, who figured out or=problem I reported right away, and took care of it, and an unanticipated issue within 20 minutes or so. At standard rate for electricians, not inexpensive, but not out of the ordinary either. What a day. It's barely 1:30, and the power went out on the second floor of my house and there was a lizard in the dining room. Fortunately, Walt from Meyer Electrical was able to come out in a flash and handle the power issue, while The Ol' Mangaretta was stuck with getting the lizard outside. I called Meyer Electrical around 11:20 this morning, and Walt said that he'd call back to let me know when someone would be here. He called back in less than 10 minutes to say that he'd arrive in 30 to 45 minutes. Great. I went downstairs, and saw this...thing scurrying across the floor! You're absolutely correct--it was the lizard. Mang sprang into action, and 20 minutes later (!), the lizard was outside, and less than five minutes later, Walt was knocking at my door. He'd already diagnosed the problem over the phone, and had it fixed in about 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes (!), and that included the time it took him to go out to his truck and get the part he needed. I told him that if he wanted five stars on my review, then next time, he'd better get the lizard out. KIDDING! So, five stars for arriving at the speed of light, fast and courteous service at a great price, and lizard support. Had three estimates for the installation of several new LED Lights, switches and outlets. An estimate was created by Walt the owner and of the three companies I chose Meyer. I was going to be away for two weeks and wanted to have the work start the day after I returned. Well that never happened, it took over 10 days once I retuned for Meyer Elec to come out. Basically, the bottom line was I very unhappy with the service, the estimate kept going up, even when I removed items from the work order. The estimates are poorly written and it seems this company "Low Balls" their Estimates. One of the recessed lights is already falling out of the ceiling. I held back several hundred dollar of the final payment, I'm glad I did. When Walt called asking for the payment, he didn't discuss the issues, rather he just decided screaming at me stating he would "send his guys over to tear out some of the lights" Wow, to start off a conversation of treating me so poorly... not a way to gain repeat customers. We had a light switch problem. Called these guys up. They called back promptly after I left a message. They were able to send a worker down the next day. He was in / out in less than 30 minutes. Fixed my problem in no time. The worker was pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient. I've never hired an electrician before, so I don't know what this is supposed to cost. I guess it was at the higher end of what I expected to pay considering it took him less than 30 mins. Everything else was great. I just received a bill for $85 for maintenance. Really? Toward the beginning of May, I called your company to ask for help with an outdoor lighting project. You sent Ryan on May 17th. A nice young man, but certainly not an expert in outdoor lighting. We talked about the project; Ryan maintained nothing. He was to discuss the project with the individual at your firm who ordered fixtures and get back to me within 24 hours. He didn't get back to me, so I called you. After some consultation at your end, you told me you didn't do outdoor lighting! If you were going to charge me for discussing a project, you should have made that clear when I first called. If you didn't do outdoor lighting, you should have told me that at the beginning. You should apologize for wasting my time, not bill me for work that was not done. That single star in my rating was a gift, it should be a minus start. Shame on you! read more

I paid a lot of money for Meyer Electrical to come to my home and do some electrical services. They failed to do the job correctly, which forced me to hire another contractor to do the work Meyer failed to do. When I tried to get some money back for the botched job, Walt Meyer accused me of fraud. I provided the invoice from the second electrician who performed the work Meyer couldn't, and Walt Meyer said the invoice I sent him was "bogus." So, not only was I cheated out of money by Meyer, and had to spend more time and money to get the job done correctly, but I was also accused of trying to defraud him with a "bogus" invoice. Walt was very straight and too the point. I appreciated the no nonsense way of doing business. I had to do a 200amp heavy up and took quotes from four different electricians. Walt had a very strong technical command of what was needed and accommodated us with a friendly payment schedule. I highly recommend Meyer Electrical Services! I had a pretty serious problem involving a sorting out wire and a bad circuit. I also had a couple minor issues. Mr. Walt Meyer himself answered my call late on a Wednesday afternoon and came promptly the next morning. The problem was not easy to solve, and even though he was under a tight schedule, he stayed and worked on the problem it was finished, and he was courteous and explained everything as he was doing it. The cost was very reasonable, particularly since he could have charged double what I payed and I would have been happy to pay it! He did not take advantage of the situation. He is going to come back to do some additional work for me (replace a faulty ceiling fan/light fixture that wasn't installed correctly in the first place). Walt and his team are great. They did a rewiring job for us that another electrician we talked to wouldn't deal with because he felt it was too complicated. It wasn't an issue at all for Meyer Electrical. They obviously have a lot of knowledge and experience under their belt. They came out the same day and were friendly and professional, did the job very quickly, and did a great job cleaning this up afterwards. Rate seemed very fair. I contacted Walt and his team for a heavy up (upgrade main service to 200 amps from 100 amps) and install an up-to-code panel (my old one was from the 70s and not nearly up-to-code), and install an electrical outlet on the front porch of the house. He gave me a good price, showed up when he said he would, got the permit, worked quickly and thoroughly, got the inspection, and got me up and running in a timely and fast manner. Walt is a friendly but no nonsense sort of guy. No BS, no schmoozing, just got to work and got the job done with great attention to quality, using parts and components that are a step above average. My job was relatively simple. Put two light switches and a junction box on the opposite side of the wall, and replace the switch with a customer provided motion sensing switch. I got a quote from another contractor for $450 for ONE switch, talking about drywall work, capping wires, blah blah blah. Walt came by and was able to knock both switches out for me at $159/each in under 30 minutes. I'm sure it's not the most difficult job that can be done with a little YouTube and turns of a screwdriver, but going with Walt provided me with peace of mind that it would be done right and guarantee I would not get electrocuted. I called Meyer for a very small job, a short in a bathroom electric light switch. Walt had his assistants out the same day and they completed the job promptly. I had been worried they would not be willing to work alongside a plumber I had called for the same bathroom but he made clear to me that they would do the work anyway - and although I had scheduled the plumber days ago for the same time the Meyer folks got there on time and had the job done before the plumber ever showed up. I first contacted Walt Meyer about a heavy-up for a home I was planning to purchase, and he was able to schedule a pre-work inspection the day after closing. Due to the layout of the house, Walt figured out the best way to achieve proper grounding, which in turn passed inspection without issue. While performing the heavy-up, I presented Walt with a number of additional electrical-related tasks, including ceiling fan installation, outlet receptacle replacement, light fixture replacement, thermostat installation, and consolidation of oddly-placed light switches. We hired Meyer Electrical to do a heavy-up and replace the circa 1925 electrical panel in our new home. Walt was very responsive, his prices were reasonable, and he clearly knew what he was doing and has lots of experience. We were eager to upgrade the electrical asap so we could put in central air, and Walt was able to fit us in his schedule within a week. They did a great job with the install, answered all my questions completely.
