I called Walt on Sunday with a two switch problem in my hallway. I had already disconnected the switches and looked at the wires so Walt said to leave everything as it was (which I did) and he would send someone the next morning. Ben and TJ arrived promptly with their equipment Monday morning. I am not an electrician but I felt they were inexperienced with this type of household wiring job as I was repeatedly asked how it was wired before. I even volunteered to go to my neighbors apartment and knock on their door so they could go in and look at the wall switch wiring in their place to copy the wiring layout. They did go the her condo but she had a different layout and only 1 switch in hallway and therefore no help. I was told by Walt, $125 for a service call, but was not told by Ben prior to the work being done what the cost would be for the fix. (I guess he didn't know.) So I guess I was their first job ever! After over an hour, I told them to just get one switch to work and not worry about the other end of the hall. Another hour later they were able to do that. Not the best experience for $288, ($86 for an assistant I did not request). Live and learn. Very polite and nice guys if inexperienced. read more

We had a dispute with the service. When I called to discuss, Walt called me "mentally ill", said I need to get "back on my meds" and that I was "sick". Since he threatened to sue me, I am being very careful with what I say and only sharing what he said on the phone to me. HIs threats made me very scared for my safety, especially since he knows where I live. read more

An unsupervised Meyer Electrical Services apprentice did unnecessary damages to my living room ceiling by cutting in the wrong location and at unnecessarily close intervals for installation of a ceiling fan and wiring. That is, despite my having marked the location for the fan installation, and shown it to both Mr. Meyer and his journeyman Ben, who assured me where the holes would be cut and the interval of cuts. The damage to my ceiling is significant, and when I calmly brought it to Ben's attention, he and the apprentice Mike packed up and left the job unfinished. A reputable contractor will try to work with a customer to resolve a problem, and will fix his company's mistakes at its own expense. However, Mr. Meyer, who was not on the job, was unresponsive when I subsequently phoned him to discuss the damages. In addition, when I asked Ben about his purported license, he told me that his license with Montgomery County expired. read more

The electrician did have to reschedule by a few hours at the last minute, but came when he said he would, and then was apologetic . He was quick, professional, and left the area very clean. One of my outlets was buzzing and emitting the smell of burning plastic. I was able to take out the partially melted outlet, cap the wires, and power off the circuit but I wanted a professional to install a new outlet to make sure that I did not kill myself or burn my house down. I called Meyer Electrical and they were able to send an electrician to my house the same day. The electrician was friendly, competent, and professional. He quickly installed a new outlet and said that sometimes the wires just get loose and arc, causing plastic to melt. read more

I had set up an appointment with Walt for an install of a Nest thermostat and to replace the GFI for my garbage disposal. I said I would supply the GFI and I was given a quote. Well in advance I ask him to bring the GFI as I was moving back to town and with out changing the quote, they came did a nice job and then charged me almost $40 for a GFI that probably costs $9. I understand that they need to up charge but for the amount of labor charged, I would suggest sending a new estimate or at least have a verbal agreement so it's not such a shock where you feel like you are being ripped off. I could have them decided to go out after all and get it myself. At that point there was no discussion. That was it. I usually need a lot of work done and have many neighbors that are also looking. I will definitely warn them that there is no cultivating a relationship. It felt like a Groupon contractor and that was a onetime gig for him. The electrician he sent was nice and quick. I went in really looking for an electrician I could continue to use and now not sure that'll be the case. read more

I am compelled to write here because of the poor experience I had with this business. I honestly can't speak to Walt's expertise or electrical problem-solving abilities--the light fixtures I hired him to install, I learned, were in need of rewiring and missing parts. That said, I need to share that Walt filled my house with passive-aggressive, negative vibes from the outset. He fumed and muttered under his breath for the 90 minutes that he was in the home, about the situation being "ridiculous" and "BS"--not to my face but within an earshot for me to know--presumably because my light fixtures are not properly set up yet for installation. I don't profess to know much about light fixtures. That's why I hired someone with good reviews to help me. But I found dealing with Walt to be an awful experience. I'm not asking for sunshine and smiles--just a basic level of decency in the way we treat one another. I hate walking on eggshells in my own damn house, and it ain't my job to help this guy uncork all that bottled up tension. I actually found myself relieved after he finished putting in a dimmer, I gave him a check for $200, and he left. read more
