The customer service here and throughout century link is just terrible. For a service like internet you really need to hire people who understand tech. Instead, you're left with dealing with someone who tells you to call the manufacturers of the 2 computers you have that won't connect to the WiFi instead of listening and talking you through a new modem, which turns out to be the problem. Last month, after many many attempts by CenturyLink to get me to switch my internet service to the "new" Quantum service I finally allowed them to make the conversion. I'm sorry I did that. My Quantum was installed on 12/01. CenturyLink continued to bill me for Phone/Internet service $79.05 month AND the new Quantum monthly charge. When contacted the customer service rep said that my CenturyLink account transfer was submitted but "someone" on their end never completed the transaction so my double billing happened. Okay, so now I was due a refund. CenturyLink said they'd credit me starting 12/08, the day I complained, NOT the 12/01 installation date. It doesn't matter because after a month I never did receive any of the credit I am owed. So now, CenturyLink was from oweing me the $79.05 to just stealing that amount from me. As soon as Google Fiber is available in my area I will be switching from these people whose right hand doesn't know what their left hand is doing. Just total incompetence! read more

Terrible. I called i. december 3rd to cancel my service as of December 31 and they confirmed the cancellation only to charge me a full month on December 20th and when i asked if id be getting the partial refund after the deactivation they said no, so I had to choose between paying 60 dollars for just 11 days (most of which i wont even be home) or deactivating early and hoping they actually process the refund for the full month. Its f'd up because people arent just going to move out on their billing schedule and arent going to want to pay for a whole month if they are moving out. Highly suggest change from this company. I placed an order for connection to CenturyLink on July 10th or 11th. The install date was July 15th. I got a phone call announcing that they had a shortage of technicians and that my install date was pushed off to September 15th. I called them and they were able to schedule the install for July 31st. From the first phone call, I was billed a pro rated charge for July. After scheduling the install for July 31st, I got another call with the same story about a lack of technicians and a need to reschedule. CenturyLink still has my prorated July payment. read more

I can't begin to convey how thoroughly, systematically disappointed I was with Century Link. But they sent me an exit survey and I responded from a need to vent. Realizing that they had wasted my time again, I decided to repost here to maybe do some good in the world. 1. Service out due to cable down in alley, offered repair date 1.5 weeks out. That is too long to wait for internet repair. 2. On day of service wife stayed home from work to make sure job got done. Tech didn't show up at all, no communication about this. We were told there would be $100 charge if tech couldn't do job if no one was at home. How much is my wife's time worth if your guy doesn't show up on proposed date? 3. Trying to communicate through phone and chat fuctions for CL is a painful waste of time. It seems designed to prevent customers getting through to people. 4. Internet speed dysfunctional. When I changed to another company, I got upgraded speed at a better price. 5. After the internet was repaired, I called to cancel my service with CL and when I said that CL could keep my business with better speed at same price I was told they couldn't do that, but I could get better speed with sister company Q Fiber at regular pricing. No offer to acknowledge terrible customer service, so no reason to stay with terrible service, insulting phone experiences, and poor internet speed. 6. Sucked before COVID-19, in New Mexico and in Colorado. No matter where you go with CenturyLink bullshit service and customer service.I love being transferred to 7 different people, and eventually getting disconnected, wasting two hours of my life and then having to call back another day trying I not to have an aneurysm. and then doing this again three more days! When I moved, I requested the same service I had at the previous address. The rep told me she would get me the "fastest available." What I find that means to me is not fast enough to work at home. In CenturyLink's defense, I don't know if I provided exact mbpm when I requested to change my service to a different address. Fastest available was not like before, it was like dial up. I could not work for a week. I got paid regardless, but they wasted my company's time. I care enough about my job, coworkers and the clients we serve, to feel bad about it. I could not get an answer when I called the regular customer service number to request transfer. Even though it was mid-pandemic, it was a different situation when calling SALES to connect NEW service. Even though I received a bill every month, she could not find me with email, phone number etc, she said she would have to create a new account and I would have to follow up at another number for disconnection at at address. Three months after I returned the router that the rep suggested was a better deal to purchase than rent, I continued to be billed for service After one or two emails to complaint resolution, they adjusted the bill for the additional months. I was so pissed I didn't pay the $60-80 remaining balance right away for the full month I still was required to pay regardless of requesting a disconnection almost immediately. We are on 5ish days of being without internet. First we were told there was an outage and an anticipated repair time. The time kept changing each day. We were told they would text us when it was fixed. It's still out and every customer service person we talk to tries to have us reset the modem. That doesn't fix it. Now they are sending someone to look at it. Kicker is they want to charge us if they need to come into the house. Our internet was fine, no issue up until Saturday night. We've reset, rebooted, factory reset and still red and green flashing light. On top of having no internet, every time we try to log on to the website it works about 1% of the time. Mostly it either says we don't have an account (no matter how we try to log in) or the outage page says BAD REQUEST. We chat and call tech support and get hung up on, never resolved. My wife works from home and my step son goes to school online. We finally had to buy a portable hot spot from T-Mobile just so my wife won't lose her job. We've never had problems before, and we understand lines can be cut or whatever, but the lack of communication and customer support has been ridicules. No updates, no real help, no text, nothing. And no internet. We will most likely be changing service providers based on this experience. read more

I found 7 different phone numbers for CenturyLink. By calling all 7 numbers I realized they all sent me to the same recording... "Welcome to CenturyLink" then offers only two choices, one being for new commercial customers and the other for residential customers. After digging through the residential option I finally found out a little bit more information about the outage in my area that's been going on for 4 days. (this was only by an automated response) I never had the opportunity to talk with human. The last 3 days I have however received 3 emails notifying me of an outage and just recently 1 email claiming the issue has been resolved, only to find out less that 3 minutes later that there is an outage in my area?! At that time I tried logging on to through the "CenturyLink app" only to find out they were experiencing technical difficulties and to try back in a few minutes... so I did 5 times with the same result (this is the reason I called them). Hoping to talk to a person (ya right)! As mentioned before, I never had a chance to talk with a representative. What a freaking hassle. I understand that there are times with all internet providers service goes down, but what is irritating is the lack of customer service. 7 different numbers all resulting in the same outcome. If you need Internet for work or school DO NOT USE Century Link!!! They will fail, 100% guaranteed. They will fail with with their crappy tech and they will fail with horrendous customer service. Let's start with the good - their product is actually great. $65/mo for 940/940. No one beats that. Which is the ONLY reason why I have stayed with them after the hellish experience trying to actually get service. I scheduled my appointment a month in advance after hearing how busy they were. The day of my appointment, the tech shows up several hours before their scheduled time. As this was a new home without any internet, no one was there. I then called and was promised someone would be there by 5. After waiting for several hours, the tech never showed. The next several days involved my wife and I contacting customer service at least 10 times to try and get a tech out to install our internet, for which we are paying by this point. The soonest I could get was 4 days later. The day comes and goes without a tech showing - despite me contacting customer service an additional 3 times to ask where the tech is and asking for the tech to call me. The next day, however, I am told the tech did arrive but no one was home. This was a flat out lie as I was sitting overlooking the front window the entire day and a tech never showed. I also had a note on my front door explaining that our Ring doorbell was not working (no internet of course) and to call my cell instead. Of course no call was ever made. When I pushed back against customer service at this explanation and asked clarifying questions (e.g., when did he say he came, did he say he say any note on the door, etc.), I am told they cannot confirm that, but must rely on the tech's note. Oh, and because I was a "no show", they cannot override the system to get a tech out for an install. Finally a tech arrived--more than one week after my initial appointment. He was very polite and helpful and got our internet up. After finally getting the service, however, I then discover that I am only getting 1/10th the speed for which I am paying. Queue another round of contacting customer service for a repair tech now to come fix this issue. I scheduled on a Wednesday for Friday of that week. Come Friday? No record of my appointment. I contact customer service Chat, who tells me a tech is available, but I have to call their customer service chat line to schedule it myself??! That is where we currently stand as I wait, yet again, on hold for someone to hopefully help me with the service I am giving them money to have. I was also promised a credit for these issues, but of course was billed as normal. If you must contact customer service, do so via Chat so you have some record of what you were promised when they inevitably lose your appointment or no one shows. read more

This company is the definition of doing the absolute bare minimum to scoot by. I honestly don't know how this business is not out of business from actually competent competition. Here's a few things I have to say about a couple topics: Reliability: Constantly goes out sometimes hours at a time with no notice. Left wondering if I paid the bill but can't even check cause my internet is out and I get no service at my home. Support: In one word- abysmal. I'm sure talking to robots was all the rage in like 2006 but if you're not into that, getting a competent human is like having a flying unicorn defecate a pint of ice cream turd on your head. I upgraded my internet speed. Needed it to be faster since I am working from home. They did the change today but it didn't work because my modem is not compatible. They told me it would be. I'd like to start out with the good first. They Internet service is first rate and I have experienced no outages since moving to my current home in November 2020. Now the bad... Their new EMAIL software and the conversion that occurred on October 24, 2022. I have been receiving much more SPAM EMAIL than on the previous EMAIL system software. I started to complain via the only means/interface available to me after the problem with my missing contacts was resolved which was more important to me. I filled out a complaint to the BBB as a result. I am well aware there was over 800,000 users that were converted to the new and less functional software. If CenturyLink has to announce this large number of users to other users as an excuse because users are complaining of problems with the aftermath of the conversion it tells me the company was ill-prepared for the conversion. I should know because I used to work for CenturyLink as a contractor and perform these type of conversions regularly. Since I can no longer complain about specific bad customer service directly over the phone to a CenturyLink supervisor, I am forced to resort to using a third party like the BBB and YELP. I have been met with incompetence and broken promises over the CenturyLink Internet browser chat sessions. There are missing features that were included in the old EMAIL software that make the current software inferior to not only the old software but to other companies offering EMAIL service/interface (examples: GMAIL, AOL MAIL). In my communications with the level one CenturyLink support staff, they do not understand how spammers perform their stealthy operation to remain anonymous. For the average user like myself to properly complain and stop SPAM from occurring it is necessary to have access to the full original EMAIL header and body. I only have access to an edited and formatted EMAIL header. The CenturyLink level one support staff seem to think that placing a spammer's bogus EMAIL address in to the "Block Sender" screen/interface will stop SPAM. First of all it only redirects the SPAM to another folder and, secondly, the SPAM EMAIL cannot be parsed specifically because each SPAM EMAIL sent from an address is randomly generated. The proper way to stop EMAIL SPAM is to obtain the sending IP ADDRESS from a FULL EMAIL header of the spam EMAIL and send a report to the administrator of the server the SPAMMER is utilizing. Another less effective option for a victim of SPAM is to send the content/original source (header and body) of the EMAIL in to a service like spamcap.com for processing. SPAMCOP requires a full and unformatted EMAIL header. If the CenturyLink EMAIL administrators are not going to stop SPAM before it reaches my inbox, at least attempt to provide to me the tools to stop it myself. I have had problem tickets on this subject created with the promise of a call back within 24 to 72 hours but have yet to receive a call back. I have been told that the tickets have also been raised to an "urgent" level but I cannot verify that piece of information. Those ticket numbers are 113602, 116105, 181901 and 189605. The names of the incompetent level one support people that I have dealt with so far (in no particular order) are Starlychae Smith, Seecs "Secret" C., Jesus Montejo, Kendanne Paul, Manuel Barrientos, Erin "Kelli" Marin, Nia Peters, Nainza Castillo, Marjay Cruz. These people need training, documentation and proper processes to deal with users complaining about SPAM. When CenturyLink's level one support staff makes a promise that someone will call me back by a certain day and time, it is a contract with the customer. The first line customer contact people AND THEIR SUPERVISORS directing them do not understand this fact. CenturyLink loses credibility as a result. This overall issues goes back to IT Service Management concepts and in particular Problem Management. They have been ignored by CenturyLink and thus lost since I left working at CenturyLink and the company was sold to the company Level 3. IT Service Management is not a fad but an industry best practice that was in place at CenturyLink before I retired. I have been a CenturyLink customer and their previous companies since 1983. This is the worst I have seen their service. read more

I tried to explain to them that my mother had a heart condition and was on oxygen and need phone service incase she needed to call for help. I recently decided to make the switch to Century Link for internet. I went to their website and was given a time to of installation. I blocked off the whole day to ensure everything was set for installation day. During these times of virtual schooling and working from home, it is paramount to have internet access. I cancelled my other service 5 days later than the scheduled install as a precaution. 3 hours after I ordered the services and received confirmation of installation date and time, rearranged my schedule to fit it, I received a voicemail from Century Link saying they messed up and could not be out to install services until 8 days later. The company made a mistake and they are now making it my problem. I will need to readjust my schedule, go back to my other service provider and take hours out of my day on customer service calls to fix it. Why Century Link cannot pay someone overtime to fix the issue they created, they could not answer. What a terrible way to start an new customer relationship. read more

I have CenturyLink in Evergreen. They only offer the slowest speed in the business, but it has been just enough until the last 8 days. Area outage -- began at 10 am on Sunday, December 5. It has been continually out since then notwithstanding many promises as to a repair time/date. I've spoken to multiple people with no progress. What is particularly infuriating is one employee said the outage was repaired Tuesday, December 7, but went out again. My guess is someone cooked the books because of an internal policy that would mean the protracted outage would trigger a negative report. OK, I'm probably wrong. Clearly an 8-day outage doesn't even cause a ripple at CenturyLink except for my neighbors and me, most of whom work from home and don't have the convenience of local cell tower coverage for a hotspot. read more
