Centurylink customer service/repair are the worst in providing service. Our service was turned off by Centurylink when we discontinued the internet. Since they caused the problem they have rescheduled the repair time and date 7 times. 3 of the scheduled times CenturyLink has been a no show. Then we get a text or email saying it was rescheduled! They have lied about being here, they don't give any explanation, and one occasion they stated they had to Order equipment! They even shut down the answering service that was on our phone, so people calling our number get a fast busy tone! CenturyLink apparently doesn't want to keep customers or provide service, just check social media! Let's face it. All internet service providers kind of suck. This is why CenturyLink sucks in my experience. 1. Service is mediocre. Most people don't need Giga speeds, but if you do, good luck reaching those speeds consistently. The modems they provide won't cover even a modest house, so you'll need extenders. 2. They're one of those companies that offer the best rates to new customers, while jacking up the price for existing customers. 3. The worse of it. Customer service. They're one of those companies who will recite company policy to rationalize screwing over the customer. I recently switched to Xfinity because they ran a special that saves me $40 bucks a month. When I went to cancel CenturyLink, they said that I had already been billed for the upcoming month. On the same day I called. After fumbling around for over 10 minutes, the CS finally processed my cancellation. Then I had to wait another 10 minutes to speak to a supervisor, who went into sales mode trying to retain my business. But he recited policy to me about how they don't prorate. If I could choose 0 stars I would. Centurylink sent my mother (82 y/o) a new modem based on a tech service call I made. I did not request a new modem and not sure why they sent. Since then, I have spent literally 10 hours on hold and have had 4 or 5 email chats trying to schedule a technician to come to her home to install. Literally the worst company I have ever tried to work with (I live in CA and yes, Centurylink is worse than PG&E). I have been a customer since 1978. I've had my email account with CenturyTel since sometime in the 1980's. I have rarely been as frustrated as I am at this point in time. I would like to share with you my experiences with you of this past week. I contacted the CenturyTel by phone last Wednesday, February 15, 2023 for help adding an additional email address to my account. I was told that could not be done over the phone, that I would have to go online for a live chat. Which I did. I was in the chat room for at least a couple of hours waiting for my queue number to come up, then the chat simply dropped unexpectedly. I wondered if it was because my computer timed out, so I adjusted the settings to never time out. By that time it was late in the day. The next day Thursday February 16, about three pm in the afternoon MST, I went to the chatroom again and was about 124th in the queue. I hung on for for nearly six hours, finally just before 10pm I was number 1 in the queue, then -as before, the chat dropped. The next day Friday February 17, I again called CenturyTel, explaining my experience of the prior two days and asked for help. A tech was helpful, then had to pass me on to another tech. When the other tech came on the line the call was dropped! To this day, I do not have the new email account set up and operational, nor am I able to receive important emails on the email account. Emails from CenturyTel come through, but not all the emails I need to receive. And if this were not enough, a few weeks ago I spoke with a CenturyTel representative over the phone regarding the internet speed. My understanding was that we should be receiving 10mbs according to our contract with CenturyTel, however we were receiving only 6mbs. In the course of the conversation it was determined by the rep that a new modem was needed. I was told that would cost me $200. I objected to this, stating that we had already purchased a modem from CenturyTel that was obviously defective, and it should be replaced without additional cost to the consumer. I was then told that our service would be increased to 20 mbs at no additional cost and that our package with the loyalty credit would be unaltered. I was assured that there would be no charge for the equipment, and no changes to our plan, simply an increase in the mbs without additional charge. The next billing from CenturyTel proved that to be true. However the billing which arrived in the email today gave a completely different statement. $200 was charged for the equipment on the billing statement, and additional fees were charged, including an increase of the monthly cost of our package and a fee for mailed billing statements, which was never discussed. The present billing statement needs to be corrected to reflect what was promised that day. I would think that there is a recording, made by CenturyTel, of that conversation to verify this understanding. In addition, when CenturyTel did the conversion of its email in October, I lost the use of my email account until the first week of December 2022. Technicians did not know how to assist me until I told them that my account was originally a digisys account, and that CenturyTel had purchased digisys. After factoring the information, my account was restored and useable until now. Again I spent hours myself, working to restore my email without the slightest amount of success. In summary it's unfathomable to imagine that CenturyTel would believe that these experiences are acceptable to any customer from any service provider. There must be a solution to this and I look forward to hearing from you to correct this major, major inconvenience. I would love to have an experience with CenturyTel that would rate 5 stars. read more

Don't do it, Centurylink does Hard Credit Checks. If you even test their service for 30 days your credit scores will drop. Centurylink doesn't even warn you, they just do it. When they get to the house to set it up they hit you with a $155 fee for a DSL modem, that sells for 23.95 on Amazon. Finally the speed tests topped out 1/3rd lower than their advertised rates. I had Century link in Sept of 2021 I asked for them to move the wires to the new house . Schedule a date for this to be done they never showed so at thst time I made a phone call they stated that the person came and transferred the wires. This never happened and after several phone call being transferred several time they still never showed. So was forced to find someone else to provide me internet service. So on Sept 17 2021 I called to have it shut of and canceled my account.. today is June 21st and till last Friday I haven't heard from anybody from Century link. Now I have been getting 2 to 3 phone calls a day saying I owe them till April. When they shut of my account. And during these phone calls I get transferred several times trying to find out what going on and every time it's a new person where I have ro give my info to them and explain it all over again this company the call arnt even from the US and you can't understand a word this person is saying I recommend no one uses Century link and finds another company read more

ROBBED ME! I have never said this in a review before, but I wish I could give negative stars. I called CenturyLink to set up cable in my apartment. THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME. The never delivered equipment. They never sent me a bill or anything by mail or email to indicate they were "providing" me service. They then charged me a year+ worth of service at once. I fought it. I went to their office. I called their office. They said they could not prove that I had never had service. Thats BS. Of course they keep record of what equipment is given to who, and what the internet usage is. How else could they bill? They then blackmailed me into paying by reporting to the credit union. Equifax went from 780 to 649 overnight. I was forced to pay for more than a year of service, just to fix my credit. DO NOT USE THEM! read more

I wish I could quit my job and go on an active campaign to stop people from ever using Century Link. They ruined my credit because of an unreturned router charge that I found out about two months after I very painstakingly left. Contacting these people is like trying to pull teeth and they never follow through with their promises. They are lazy and uninterested in providing the customer with any sort of satisfaction. Every sentence they speak to you is punctuated with schemes to get you to pay money, even when you've disconnected. The girl who answered was completely inept. Kept putting me on hold then coming back and saying " what was it you wanted again?" It has been 90 days since I closed and returned my modem. Each time have spoken with someone here at the local office I have always been treated with kindness and respect. My struggle is with Centurylink and their DSL in general for our area. I have spent time and time again in contact with them reporting sketchy, slow or NO service and time and time again they say their is no problem or have me purchase a new modern (from them). On our 3rd in 2 years. Even went out and bought one from Staples bc one of their tech recommended I do. Took it back bc I was still having the same issue. Last week my phone line and DSL went out completely. This time it's a bad DSL port. Still having the sketchy, slow or no service. i pay for internet. two days ago it started dropping out intermittently. i called tech support. after some computer runaround, i got some kid in idaho who was about as impudent, condescending and self involved as i have met. from his bubble he started reading to me. stopped every once in a while. i had to guess he thought i owed him a response. no idea what. previously, the computer voice had indicated the modem they had installed was scanned. the kid asked what model it was. i said it was the one century link installed. he said i was to go find it and get the numbers off of it as if he was the customer. plus he was missing some agreement information i should go online to fill out. as if i knew anything he was ordering. i had called because their system was failing. i have three degrees in programming, software testing and program management information systems. he apparently knows only what the computer tells him. he was treating me as if i was a tech peasant and he was the tech master. the first thing he should have done is recognize his place in the food chain. then find out if there was a system problem elsewhere. the third thing he should have done is stop reciting the system innerworkings and my place in his fiefdom. centurylink couldn't care less if they lose a customer, or they would train their support staff. as far as they are concerned, customers are those things that owe money and fealty. the kids they hire? a computer is just a loaded gun given to a baby. read more

I Ordered DSL internet and had a required scheduled appointment for installation. It between 8am - 5pm, so I took time off or work and waited. No showed up or called to reschedule or update me on the status. I called customer support and was put on hold countless times until eventually when I got a live human, I was told that I need to be redirected to the "other Century Link" which I was part of because I only had a 9 digit account number. Suffice to say after hours of being on hold and being redirected to dozens of operators, ultimately no one could give me a status or update on my service installation. I was just repeatedly told, "its possible the installer will show up tomorrow between 8am-5pm, please be available for the installer to access the home." After over week of this foolishness I cancelled the install without ever receiving a call or update from Century Link. The entire process felt so unprofessional and shady, as no one I spoke to really knew what was going on or who to talk to get more information. By far they WORST customer experience I have had with a telco to date. And that includes Comcast, Charter, Verizon, and ATT. read more

10/3/2011 Update Everything has been going great since the install. Both the internet and DirecTV service people were really friendly and they showed up when they said they would (unlike with my experience with Comcast). The internet works very well, and the reception for the satellite TV was great even with heavy rain and wind we had recently. Admittedly, the internet at my place is 10 mps, half the speed of what I had with Comcast, but for what I do online it is sufficient, movies and YouTube videos are still streaming. If CenturyLink were to ever offer a higher speed, that would make me a SUPER happy customer. Also, if you're not sure if you want to spend the extra $3 a month, I really love the Whole-Home-DVR through DirecTV. It's nice to watch a recorded show in the bedroom or out in the work-out room. I also like setting shows to record from my SmartPhone, and my partner is thrilled with the free SundayTicket. Most importantly, once everything was set up, it was so satisfying to give Comcast the finger. They overcharged me for too long. When I went to cancel, I had to wait in a line of 30 people with two people working the window, a room without enough chairs and no bathroom (a cop even came in to try to switch his DVR and he was harping on Comcast so much, it was amusing). I wondered as I held my three receivers, "what exactly was I paying for." (I have a video of the waiting room and the two tellers that I will try to get to posting at some point). But CenturyLink has been good so far. I only wish that you had a clear contract in writing before starting, just something that makes me uneasy. I'll provide an update if I run into any snags but so far, even though getting to this point was a nightmare, the service from install until now seems pretty great. read more

This company promised us a $300 gift card for signing up for internet service plus a land line phone connection. Our internet took forever to be set up and it was very frustrating because they couldn't figure out what was wrong in the first place. Then they never sent us our gift card as promised. They just gave us credit on our account. In addition we canceled the land line and they accidentally cut off our internet service for a whole week and after calling 6 times they still hadn't gotten our internet up and running my husband had to call again to figure out what was taking so long to fix, Not to mention the call took more than an hour so they can get their act together and figure the hell how to bring our internet running again. It's absolutely horrible service and frustrating to deal with a rookie company that doesn't know how to manage their own system over the phone. It seems like they don't have any urgency especially when people have assignments and deadlines to meet for work, and College. We are very disappointed!!! read more

We have been customers for over 20 years. We live on the Key Peninsula in Gig Harbor, pay the same as everyone else does, and we have the absolute worse internet possible.,. So do our neighbors. Even worse than this, I have been trying to get a phone disconnected in a rental home and a new service started. It has been an absolute nightmare! I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Centurylink over the past 6 weeks, have been assured that everything is set up, but nothing has happened and they state they have no record of the conversations or new modem orders. Your representative was unable to provide adequate assistance even after verifying account ownership. Service was less than satisfactory after being kicked offline with two other representatives after troubleshooting for over two hours. My wife is left yet again with 2 children required to perform remote schooling and inadequate internet. You're attitude toward customer service because of having a monopoly on service in our area is an atrocity towards good business relations. I have had their service for over a year and I have had an extream amount of issues with this company. Starting service consisted of 2 failed appointments with no notice of cancelation. Once it was set up the service man did not check if it was working witch resuled in a 5 hour phone call because it was set up incorrectly in the fist place. Since then I've been over charged every month. I was not notified a payment didn't go through and my service was suspended, however I was charged for a "restore fee" while is was not providing internet of $20 and I was billed for the time I did not have internet. Worst outfit ever!....and I'm not even a customer yet. I've got raw land on the Key Peninsula (Lakebay) and can't even get a straight answer on how to get a cable in the ground. My trenches are dug, all other utilities in. I was told by a guy on their service truck to just stop in the office and get the cable I need to prepare for hookup. I keep calling the Gig Harbor number but get transferred to: Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota. These people keep insisting that I tell them what number I'm calling about....Duh!? On the bill their is no number to call to obtain repair service and no local number to report the issue. A telephone co that doesn't believe in telephone service. I didn't start out not liking Qwest. But they soon pushed me in that direction. I had an Internet connection through them, the wife had the phone. Qwest insisted that we combine the two accounts and pay one bill, or they would charge us MORE! Easy enough. I found another ISP. Actually a better one, but that's a whole'nuther review. We kept the phone with them because there really wasn't much else out there. Whoever we went with almost always charged us WAY more than the plan we thought we were paying. They tell ya...."oh its only $29.99 a month" but they DON'T tell ya there are about $25 worth of taxes, fees, and whatever attached to the bill by the time you get it. NOW they call themselves CenturyLink. They call me with an animated message saying they need to talk to me and call such and such a number. I figure, they want me they will call back. When they did, I answer the phone, ANOTHER animated message to call them back. I hang up. Next morning. NO PHONE SERVICE PERIOD. No one called to say anything.....the animated message could have outlined the consequences before they did that. "Call us back or we will disconnect your service". How hard is that? So I switch to Vonage. So far so good, once the VBox gets here. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday but I was at the doctor. So they (UPS) deliver today during a 4hr spread. That will be later this afternoon. My service with Vonage starts this morning, I am not hooked up yet until I get the box, and guess who disconnects my phone first thing in the AM? CenturyStink. I told the lady on the phone when I was straightening out our billing "I haven't even started doing business with you people and you have already got me so PO'd I don't want anything more to do with you!" Paid the bill........moved on to Vonage. My folks have no other choice living out in the sticks, and they're just happy to have ANY service, but from what I have seen not having anything at all MIGHT be the better choice. YUK! No other company can compete with CenturyLink for reliable, fast internet service. They are simply the best.

We had Century Link as our ISP for about 18 months. In January, 2019, we experienced a service outage which they said might last for several hours. In fact, it lasted for 6 full days. When we inquired, all we were ever told was that they were aware of the problem and were working on it. After six days, we called a competitor and set up a working service. Century Link sent us a "termination" bill for well over $100 which we refused to pay. Since we were on auto-pay, they just deducted that amount from our checking account despite our protests. Now, as if to add insult to injury, they are still deducting our monthly charge and it appears those charges can only be stopped by Century Link who can't or won't do it. Avoid these people at all costs. I'd rather have a tin can and string internet connection than ever go back to Century Link. read more

If I had to deal with them on a daily basis I would be at the doctor for blood pressure medication- or dead. I made numerous calls to cancel, was assured I had canceled only to continue to get bills and be told 'no I had not canceled'. Customer Service was always horrible. I'm not sure why we put up with this company for so long but we finally cancelled our land line and bundled it with our Broadstripe cable package. Months later they are claiming we owe them a $64 "disconnect fee". We never received any bills after cancelling our service but must pay the fee or it will go on our credit reports. Spoke to numerous customer service reps and managers and they were no help. Surprise, surprise. They never were. STAY AWAY from CenturyTel/CenturyLink. read more
