It's quite dim, but personally that's preferable to it being extremely florescent and bright. Service: Johannes was very pleasant. Food: We came because we wanted to eat escargot. Our favorite French restaurant, Le Gourmet in Upland closed in 2024 or 2025 so we needed to find a new French place. The lamb loin in lingonberry sauce was wonderfully complex with the savory cheese complemented well by the sweet lingonberry. The escargot was perfect. The only caveat was that we tried the pastries of the day -- one was a puff pastry, forgetting the flavor/name and some kind of cake, maybe Napoleon? We did not care for the desserts at all, if I were to get another dessert I'd probably stick with the crème brulée. The bread and salty whipped butter were delicious, seemed house-made? The bread was slightly sweet and I had to hold myself back from gorging on it. Parking: Parked in a nearby garage for $20. I think there was an event going on.

The staff are always so attentive and kind and are part of the reason that we keep coming back. We felt the need to speak up for something we witnessed. When we were visiting this Tuesday, September 1st, a bit after happy hour, we couldn't help but overhear how entitled and rude the table next to us was being to our server. I'm someone that has been working in the food and beverage industry for years, but it doesn't take that experience to see that the restaurant was clearly full. Our server was tending to every table on the bar side including ours and was attentive and kind. The table next to us was making a scene and acting like our server was supposed to wait on them hand and foot. We were having a great time and decided to ignore them for a while, but eventually we noticed the gentleman from that table get up and follow our server into the kitchen when she was clearly in the middle of something. She informed him that he could not be in the employee's only area and to that he told her "Shut up, I'm not listening to you anymore". We're not sure if he felt like he had the right to talk to her like this because she's hispanic, but there is no excuse. The staff put up with too much nonsense here. 5 Stars for the craft, the service, and the patience. We've never seen this couple here and we hope to never see them disturb the peace at this establishment again!

I've had this restaurant bookmarked for almost a year, so I'm glad we finally made it out for lunch…read moretoday. Knowing how popular it is for brunch, I made a reservation through Resy, which was easy enough. We arrived around 11:30, and the bakery next door was already packed, with nearly every outdoor table occupied. That pretty much confirmed the raving yelp reviews! The restaurant is charming with that comfortable neighborhood French bistro feel where you can settle in for a leisurely lunch. And a small detail I really appreciated is that the bistro tables have purse hooks on the side. Anyone who has ever tried to figure out where to put a handbag at a tiny café table will understand why this deserves a mention. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order several things and share. Portions turned out to be more generous than I expected. Loup de Mer (sea bass special) was my favorite dish of the meal. The fish had a really nice crisp on the outside, but it didn't taste fried or greasy. Inside, it was still tender. I also liked the mashed potatoes more than I expected; they were light, not overly buttery, and seasoned just enough. Even the zucchini was good, which I usually treat as the vegetable I'm supposed to eat rather than the part I actually want. Ham Benedict was easy to like. The eggs were poached just right, with runny yolks that mixed into the hollandaise once you cut into them. No sad, overcooked egg situation here. The roasted fingerling potatoes were so creamy, so dangerous in the best way. Couscous aux Légumes surprised me in a good way. I honestly didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. The couscous was fluffy, the squash had a nice sweetness to it, and the chickpeas made the whole thing feel more substantial. It didn't come across as the token vegetarian dish on the menu. I kept going back for another bite. Salmon Tartare wasn't buried under a ton of lemon juice. You could still taste the fish, which sounds obvious, but isn't always the case with tartare. The yuzu mayo worked well with it and helped cut through the richness. I did wish the capers came through a little more; I wanted just a bit more saltiness and bite. The toast was spot on, though. Crisp enough to hold everything together, but not so hard that you're fighting with it between bites. By the time we finished, everyone was comfortably full, so dessert will have to wait for another visit. Parking around here is admittedly not the easiest, especially during the weekend lunch rush, but I wouldn't let that stop me. Circle around a little and eventually something opens up. And since we had already resisted dessert at the table, we naturally walked next door afterward and left with macarons and French butter instead. Apparently we need to work on self-control. A very enjoyable first visit with attentive service, and this is one I'd happily come back to. Next time with enough room left for the dessert.

There were plenty of tables available when we walked in on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Wanting to try a few things, our party of four ordered: * Corbeille Pain et Beurre Francais $5 - Who doesn't love French butter? 4/5 * Le Steak Tartare $23 + egg yolk $2 - One of the main reasons we came and their version was not exciting. 3/5 * Ratatouille $8 - Again, their version was just okay. It's more of a stew and a tomato-heavy one. 3/5 * Escargots $14 - We always love escargot, but definitely needed more bread to enjoy all the butter. Do note that their version has almond and hazelnut in their butter. We did end up ordering another one. 4/5 * Terrine de Campagne $12 - The duck and pork pate was just okay again. 3/5 * Tartare de Saumon $17 - This dish was simply salmon, avocado and mayo and reminded us of something we would get at a Japanese restaurant. 3/5 Overall, we were just underwhelmed by the whole experience - from the food and the service. I honestly don't remember much about the service as it being just fine. I had really high hopes for this place, and even checked out the dessert menu in search of a better ending. Instead, we just got desserts from their sister bakery next door. Perhaps their entrees would have been a better choice.

Like true Parisian style, you'll need to make a reservation because seating is limited and this spot is quite popular. My boyfriend and I were very fortunate they had a table available when we visited (we didn't know it was reservations-only) but the staff kindly seated us. Next time, I'll definitely call ahead. Right away, you're greeted by a warm and welcoming mother-daughter duo. They patiently walked us through the menu and shared the specials of the day. The chef himself came out to say hello and even took the time to explain a few items we were curious about. Soft French music plays in the background, creating such a calm, inviting atmosphere. *Plain Croissant: A perfect classic. Flaky on the outside, soft on the inside; it's exactly what you'd want from a traditional croissant. I'd come back just for their pastries alone, though this time I was excited to try their savory breakfast items. *Croque Monsieur: Absolutely delicious and wonderfully authentic. I ordered it with ham in the traditional style, and it came with creamy béchamel and melted cheese layered perfectly on top. The portion was generous and satisfying. You can add an egg to turn it into a Croque Madame. This came with a Provençal tomato and a potato pavé on the side, both of which were flavorful and beautifully prepared. The pavé, with its delicate layers, was such a standout. I haven't seen these sides offered at other French restaurants in the U.S., and I'd honestly return just for them. *Machaca Frances: My boyfriend ordered this dish, and it was such a pleasant surprise as a creative, well-executed blend of flavors. The short rib was incredibly tender, paired with potatoes, caramelized onions, and more, all wrapped up in a soft tortilla. The fresh pico, sauce, and avocado on top tied it all together perfectly. When my boyfriend mentioned he was eyeing this dish, the chef smiled and said the machaca filling was similar to beef bourguignon, and he was right! It had that same rich, deep, savory flavor. If they ever have actual beef bourguignon on the menu, I'd order it in a heartbeat based on how good this was. *Side salad: This had fresh greens, carrots, and caramelized onions, with oven-roasted tomatoes, and more, drizzled in a rich balsamic reduction. You could tell a lot of effort went into even the salad, and it tied the dishes together beautifully. This café really reminded me of France, which I miss so much. The space is clean, the atmosphere is warm, and you can tell the staff knows their regulars well. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like family as soon as you walk in. Spots like this are rare for both atmosphere and traditional French cuisine, especially around here, which makes Café La Reve feel even more special. I'm already planning my next visit to try their sweet breakfast options and maybe a lunch entrée. I saw in another review that they also offer dinner on Fridays by reservation, something I'm excited to experience soon. Thank you to the entire team for your kindness and hospitality. Café La Reve is a true gem, and I can't wait to come back.

We ordered: The Burger Frites ($25)- A 50% Wagyu beef patty, cheddar cheese, dill pickle, gem lettuce, with their signature house dressing. The burger patty had a delicious crispy outer crust but still had a juicy, pink center. The crisp dill pickles really complimented the rich dressing and the cheddar cheese. The frites were perfectly salted and crispy on the outside with a soft inside. The identical thickness of each fry tickled my brain... IYKYK. Each bite sent me straight to burger heaven. Each element felt simple but very well done. Will definitely be back for this burger over and over again.
