I was out of work for three months due to back pain. Their injections in my back have me pain free for several years so far.

I received care from Angela Ash. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have met her. Angela goes beyond to help her patients. She takes time to listen to what your concerns are and does everything she possibly can to help you. Angela went out of her way to find out what was causing my pain and wasted no time finding a solution to treat it. Thank you Angela! I wanted to add that though I did not see Dr. Gutierrez, he was involved with my care on this visit by meeting and discussing my issues with Angela. This is the worst doctors office I have ever had to deal with. They have no clue what they're doing from the front desk to the doctors themselves. I had to go through 2 trials to see if a procedure was right for me and pay out of pocket even though I have insurance. I did, because we were desperate. I then had the surgical procedure, which created more intense pain and zero relief. When I called, the front desk said "oh that's normal" and prescribed more pain meds which I didn't take at all, as they provide no relief. Then I called and demanded to see my doctor, (Gutierrez) and was scheduled with his NP. She was very nice, and said "I don't know why they prescribed you that. It's not what you need." She then gave me gabapentin and a steroid which also did not work. She told me I was in the low percentage of people who's nerves "overreact" after surgery. I also had to pay a copay to see a NP for their screw up. This has been the worst decision of my life to follow through with this procedure. I am consulting another doctor as well as a lawyer at this point. Run. read more

This has to be the WORST "Doctor's" office I've ever been to and I've been to some bad ones. I came in to have an ablative procedure done to help with a pinched nerve in my neck. Things were off here from the very first appointment... The office staff is super unorganized, they were confused about what I was being charged and for what. I thought I was coming in to have just the ablative procedure done, but was then told I had to have two trial procedures done before I could have the ablative procedure. Each of the three procedures cost between $600 and $700. The first two procedures, some sort of pain medication was injected, which made my neck in the right back side of my skull completely numb. They said if I felt 80% better as far as my pinched nerve was concerned that we could proceed with the final procedure. I went in for the final procedure,, two weeks later I still had pain from the pinched nerve as well as some new issues due to the procedure. It is very sensitive to touch my neck around the injection site and a large patch of skin on my shoulder and back burns, itches, and is uncomfortable to even wear a shirt. I feel like I constantly need to scratch that spot, but it hurts too much to scratch. At the two week mark I called in to let them know what I was experiencing and instead of letting me come see the doctor they prescribed muscle relaxers and told me to wait two more weeks. Finally, after a month, I was still experiencing all of those symptoms and was allowed to come in to see the doctor. However, the doctor was booked two weeks out, so I could only see his nurse. After telling the nurse, what I was experiencing, she seemed horrified that I was prescribed muscle relaxers for a nerve issue. She said whoever I spoke to on the phone must not have understood what I was telling them. She prescribe me steroids and gabapentin, and told me to call them once I was finished with those prescriptions . Once I finished those prescriptions, I was still feeling all those symptoms... The original pinched nerve in my neck, the pain and sensitivity on my neck around the injection site and this weird patch of skin on my shoulder and back that hurts, itches and is uncomfortable to wear a shirt . This time when I called, now 2 months after my procedure, they said the doctor wants to see me himself since he wasn't able to the previous visit. So I made an appointment to see the doctor, but after waiting a full hour past my appointment time I walked out. The only thing this office cares about is charging your insurance and getting as much money as possible for quack procedures that don't work. BEWARE: I'm worse than I was before coming here. DO NOT trust dr. Gutierrez and his staff.... You will regret it like I do. read more

I was referred to this doctor after my wonderful doctor retired. I have 8 years of pain management documented. I met with this doctor Mon he said he could help me first one of my medication I have been taking for years he said don't take them anymore or he couldn't help with my pain medication no weening nothing but I agreed. I have 8 yrs of documentation on my medication. He said I needed a MRI That was fine also I called the very next morning too get scheduled they couldn't get me in until may 15th . Mind you he then proceed and to say he needs The MRI first My medication is due on the 12th he told me he will not refill my meds which I will get bad withdrawal so it would be about 8 days before I can get this straightened out. This man is a pain management doc so knows the out come. I do not recommended this doctor at all no kindness no empathy. Although I had all documents to prove I have been taking for years. This review is for Ms. Leslie Escalante, Rn, PA ONLY.... Ms. Escalante has been my primary contact for medical care at the Round Rock clinic for more than three years now. Any chronic pain patient knows that you see the PA the great majority of the time. Ms. Escalante is an actual 'healer' in her profession. She does what Doctors do not have the time to do. She listens to her patients, asks questions, suggests ideas, and follows up on what needs doing. She will help you through the process and put you on a path to improvement. DO NOT expect her to cut you any slack if you get off the program or don't abide by the contract. If you are a drug seeker she will shut you down. You must do your part but if you do you will improve your quality of life. She did that for me and I thank her for it. read more

My first visit with Dr. Gutierrez was a big 5 stars. The nerve block went well and provided 10% relief from unrelenting post-surgical nerve pain. At the follow up we agreed to try a second block. Since then, my experience with the South Austin location has been perplexing, to say the least. Five polite messages left over 5 weeks ... and not one returned phone call! Last week, I finally asked the ubiquitous answering machine for a courtesy call to tell me whether Dr. G is still practicing, or if I should find another doctor. The whole experience left me with an unprecedented feeling of neglect. What could be the reason for ignoring five polite messages? I have excellent insurance and am not seeking opioids. FOLLOW UP - 6/2/16 (Rating went from 2 stars to 4 stars) After writing my first review, the administrative service at Central Texas Pain Center definitely improved. Dr. G is wonderful and after four blocks the nerve pain has improved 40%. Still unsure why the clinical staff can't return phone calls within 24 hours, but if you're not in an emergency situation, I would give Dr. G a try. He helped me, and I plan to return for additional treatment. Don't know what their prescribing practices are as I don't get medication there. read more

Coordination is non-existent.I have been there four times and still have the same problem. I even got charged extra for injections over and above what the insurance paid. They stink in service. Never in my life have I experienced such horrific healthcare. I had Dr. Gutierrez place a DRG implant in my back. After feeling 90% relief with my trial, I expected the implant to work at least a little. When it didn't work at all, I went to a different doctor and was informed Dr. Gutierrez placed my leads incorrectly, so of course it was not working. I then went to a doctor in Denver who Dr. Gutierrez had claimed was the man who pioneered the DRG implant...he also claimed he had worked under him during his medical training. When I went to the Denver doctor, this doctor informed me he had NEVER even met Dr. Gutierrez. All the while confirming that my leads were placed incorrectly. To misrepresent your training and knowledge of a medical device, especially one as life-changing as the DRG, is despicable. Since leaving Dr. G's care, I have struggled for MONTHS to get them to send my medical records to new doctors and/or to me. They claim that a third party is in charge of medical records and that as soon as you submit the proper paperwork, your new doctor will receive records. Based on that timeline, my new doctor should have received my medical records ten weeks ago. They still have nothing. When I call Dr. G's office they claim to have sent them already and to not know how to move forward. His office has a call center that picks up ALL CALLS, so you can never actually get into contact with anyone. Their online patient portal is a disaster and does not hold ANY accurate summaries of visits, lists of medications, etc. I am absolutely appalled with Dr. Gutierrez and his staff and would never go back to them for treatment. I am so pleased with the service I receive while under the care of Dr. Daniel Frederick despite an occasional "hiccup." I see Dr. Frederick at both the Austin location on James Casey and the San Marcos location. Let me preface this by stating that my medical conditions make me a very complicated patient to manage my pain. I have never met a doctor yet that has seen another situation the same as mine. I have had many doctors who just gave up on me and other pain doctors who I have fired because of their inability to treat me correctly. Dr. Daniel Frederick is NOT one of those doctors. He patiently stuck with me and has more than adequately addressed my issues. I have been seeing him for many years now and the thought of changing doctors has NEVER crossed my mind! My issues will be life - long pain issues and I plan on staying with Dr. Frederick as long as possible. Does this mean that the doctor or staff have never made a mistake? No, because frankly they are prone to mistakes just like everybody. However, it is how they react to an error is what impresses me. They are not only more than willing to correct the mistake, but they go out of their way (especially the office manager, Corrina) try to make sure nothing like that ever happens again. I personally have found that if I am both patient and gracious about a specific issue, it really helps to facilitate a resolution. Therefore, there has never been an issue that we were not able to overcome, and for that I am extremely grateful because my life literally is on the line! Because of increasing government regulations in the pain management industry, I have personally witnessed how things have drastically changed regarding patient care. Waiting times have increased because paperwork has multiplied to an insane level. Prescriptions are so tightly controlled that it can lead to aggravation for legitimate pain patients. However, neither the doctor nor I can do anything about it except to just accept it with grace and dignity. Thank you to Dr. Daniel Frederick, Corrina, and the rest of his staff for accepting me as a patient as difficult as I can get at times! (Disclaimer: I am not in the medical profession at all. I hate going through Central Texas Pain Center. They obviously have way too many clients, so the wait times are upwards of an hour for every single appointment. For people who are already in chronic pain, this seems extremely ludicrous. Getting through on the phone is impossible, and even though I regularly leave messages, I never get calls back. At this point it's easier for me to drive the eight miles to speak to someone face to face. When I do finally have appointments after sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, my appointment is between five and a half and six and a half minutes long. I've timed it several times. Eventually I do get what I need, but I feel like my time isn't valuable at all to Texas Pain Center. Every time I go in for an appointment I feel humiliated, and it's rather awful, because this is a service I've paid a lot of money for. read more

I posted 1 star because -1 was not available. After driving 1 1/2 hours to get here for an appointment CTPC changed yesterday. We were told, "no our appointment had not been changed." Further, their only accommodation was to say they'd try to get to my wife as soon as possible, but since our appointment (the one they'd changed) wasn't until 1 1/2 hours from now, we'd have to wait. No one accepted responsibility for this situation, "the person that called yesterday is not here today." I thought pain clinics were supposed to reduce pain not cause it. read more

I have been going to CTP for about two years. At first, I was very happy with my care. Recently, I have felt as if they no longer care about managing my pain. For some unknown reason, the last time I asked for a prescription refill in October, I was given something I had never taken before. So, I tried calling and writing a portal message for resolution. When I saw the PA last week, I brought in the partial bottle, minus 6 pills I had taken as proof that this was not the correct med. she kept insisting that it was and that I'd been taking it for a long time. I repeated 10 times that this was NOT the med I'd been taking. A follow-up appointment was made for January. Since I'd been off my pain med for over a month, I was in severe pain feeling as if I was starting from square 1. I "assumed" that a prescription for the correct med would be sent to my pharmacy but that was not the case. I sent a portal messages in an attempt to resolve the issue. All I was given was a copy of my "encounter summary." I sent another portal message asking whether my med would be refilled. I'm now getting the silent treatment. Here I am unable to do anything standing on my feet for more than 15 minutes. All I have to do is take a shower and I'm in agony. At least with the med I was able to function part of the day. Until something is done my quality of life will remain less than negative. I'm depressed and bored from not being able to do anything. I have looked for another practice, but there are very few that offer pain medication. My next appointment is in January. I'll provide an update then. read more

I have never had such a difficult time or a more dissppointing time by a medical facilty. Someone in the office doesn't quite know what they are doing. They tell me my insurance didn't approve a procedure , so I call and yes they did. So I call Dr office back give them authorization number , then Laura gives me an excuse about the delay and.promptly schedules me at an OUT OF NETWORK surgical facilty So Laura calls me back and says they need prior authorization from ins.co. They are horrible. Require you to schedule a 15 min consultation (and pay your full co-pay) and then make a separate appointment on a different day (with another co-pay) to get any treatment. Total scam to milk as much money as possible from you and your insurance company. read more

I went to see Dr Frederick there about 6 months back for an ongoing pain in my leg (which turned out to be a pinched nerve). What a waste of my time. He barely examined me, asked me almost nothing about my issue, and gave me less than 5 mins of his time. He just prescribed a pain med which I never even took. Don't waste your time! read more

Dr. Frederick is a life saver. I was referred to him by the ER at St. David's for extreme neck pain back in February. I was beside myself with pain and nothing any other doctor did was helping. Dr. Frederick spent a good 30 mins with me on my first visit before ordering an MRI and sending me home with a prescription for something to dull the pain. I had the MRI on a Friday afternoon and heard back from him Monday morning. I had bulging disks. He got me on the schedule for an injection. Once we found out I had bad insurance that wouldn't pay for me to go to a surgery center for the procedure, he volunteered to do the injections in office. Three months and several in office injections later, I'm in a place where I am comfortable and able to return to my normal life. He has always taken his time with me, making sure I understand what is happening and what comes next. And then there is his staff! From front desk to nurses, this is the best staff I've ever worked with (and I've been to a lot of doctors)! They truly seem to care. I really feel taken care of and heard with Dr. Frederick. read more

100% pleased to have gone here. Everyone was friendly and helpful. My first visit put me at ease. The doctor was nice and gave me the attention and time to ask all my questions. I was reluctant to see a pian specialist but was getting no relief from OTC pain releif. CTPC was listed as a provider on our insurance so I made an appointmentointment. I was told my part of the fee wouild be $170.43. This seemed excessivecessive but I paid the amout on the day of the visit. Weeks later, I receivedceived a bill from CTPC for $552.07. I looked at the billing statement andement and found I was charged $850 for an outpatientatient visit. Oscar Insurance negotiated the amout down $127.50. I discussion with the billing specialistlist at CTPC, I asked how much my follow up visit with a PA the next week would costld cost. They said I would not know till the day before the visit. How can I trust it will not be abother $772.50 for my part. If I go to a resturant and it says "market price" on the menu, I expect to know how much I am paying when I order, not to have the resuturant call me two weeks later and tell me I owe a lot more for the item I ordered and paid for.l read more

I had received call from one Dr. Gutierrez's nurse Lord and behold she said that Sarah P. A. I don't like and never did and Dr. Gutierrez's knew that but still send her there she is the sorry is person I ever, ever met.. People I will not go back to see Dr. Gutierrez's or Sarah his P. A. or the other doctor who is in the same office pain doctor, him and Sarah send a medication and I broke out so I called the office and they got mad at me because I told them I was going to call call Dr. Gutierrez's over the I don't care were he was at, my health or is law suit.... Not sure why this office can't return a call. I"ve left 3 vm this week. If I didn't think my doc was so awesome, I'd find another facility.

I showed up to my second appointment, a two week follow-up and to read the results of x-rays. The office was locked, the lights were off at 10 am. I called the main phone line, was on hold for 20 minutes then hung up on. Then I was put on hold at least three more times. No one knew why the office was closed or what was going on. Finally someone called back and said the doctor was at another location. The next available appointment is another two weeks away. The medication I was given on my first appointment is not working and the other gives me a rash. Any phone number you call you are directed to the same call center talking to the same two people that don't know what's going on. This is by FAR the worst doctor office experience I have ever had. No don't visit this center or any of the other centers. It is a disorganized joke. I was given basically strong ibuprofen and a pain cream, that after two weeks the pharmacy has not been able to fill. read more

Dr. Teddrick Dunston is very thorough and diagnosed my injury the first visit and has been treating me since.The staff at the front desk moves quickly so you're usually in and out. I do not recommend this clinic if you need fast help. Dr. Frederick charged me $400 dollars to speak with him for 5mins, if that. I had to get an MRI, which took them multiples days to call in request. In the mean time I had to be rushed to hospital via EMS. I ended up having emergency back surgery for large dis bulge. I have been seeing Dr. Gutierrez at Central Texas Pain Clinic since September or October of 2015. He is simply wonderful. I have also seen different docs and PAs at Austin Pain Associates, and I never felt a sense of caring or purpose from them. Perfectly professional, but definitely not the caliber that Dr. G provides. I cannot agree with ANY of the negative reviews here. I go to the North Austin facility (soon to be Round Rock) and everyone there is caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. Dr. G is a thorough diagnostician and listens carefully to each symptom and indicator that I have. (Starting with chronic facet joint issues, complicated by a car accident with multiple moderate-severe injuries.) He does appropriate testing before making decisions. They do abide a conservative treatment philosophy (opioids not preferred ... as they shouldn't be to a certain extent) but after a lovely uninsured motorist hit me head on in an intersection, Dr. G logged some late hours to get a script sent over for me the day I wrote in. Jana, the office manager, is especially helpful when communicating through the portal. The ladies at the Alderbrook (not listed on yelp, but right near Parmer & Lamplight village) office are so sweet. Back to Dr. G - look at the man's qualifications. I didn't even know who I was working with until 3 months into my treatment. Now I hope and pray this man will always be at a facility that takes my insurance. He will do his best to get to the root of your pain, and help you make the choices and changes necessary to reduce and/or overcome it. So glad I was referred to him. If you have a choice, give Dr. G a visit. Merry Christmas Dr. G! And PS: they have never, ever, ever been late with a referral or imaging request. Often times I go the same or next day and I have some difficult freaking insurance. read more

Dr. Frederick never touched me when I came in with foot problems. he sent me to get an MRI which took forever, he likes you to go to a certain place. they took forever to get the results. The appointments are never on time. My first appointment I waited over an hour and a half. My second appointment for an injection I was thirty minutes plus an extra 15 minutes to be early. The doctor wasn't in the building. The entire waiting room was cleared for the girl at the desk to say "oh he isn't here yet do you want to reschedule?" Are you seriously kidding me. I had to fast for 8 hours + ask a friend for help since I'll be sedated and not able to drive home myself. Not only am I missing work so is my friend. There is no courteous or understanding for the immense amount of pain I am in and to sit makes it even work for an hour and a half. The doctor may be fantastic but having to wait almost 2 hours each time to be seen plus deal with a front desk person with an attitude since you signed in isn't ideal read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Frederick for a few years, and he's awesome. Granted, I mostly see Larry these days, and he's a great man. He always takes his time, down to earth, I cannot say enough about him. Dr Gutierrez is also a outstanding doctor. He performed an emergency injection on hours notice, and it was a a godsend. Leslie is very sweet, and informative, I enjoyed her as well. Of course, there is a secret to this office, and her name is Corina. She has done so much to help me over the years, sincerely a life saver. She's incredible and truly cares. Honestly, I've never received anything but great assistance, and help from this team. I broke both of my heels and have 3 plates and 39 screws now and have tons of pain all the time. I can't thank him and their staff enough for all they do for me. I came here and with seen 30 minutes after my appointment time and the doctor recommended a procedure I was familiar with. This procedure had been recommended before so I was comfortable saying 'yes' given I had done research prior. Here's where the problems started. This office has NO CLUE what they're doing with veteran patients. They asked me for a pharmacy and I gave them the info for CVS not knowing it was a $400/month prescription. I'm usually ok paying for them out of pocket, but that was a bit much. When I told them later that day the prescription had to be sent to the VA hospital, they seemed confused. I was then confused because this is technically where ALL veteran prescriptions have to go, but they didn't have any info on how to send it there. So I had to call the VA, collect all the information, then call back with that information (even though it didn't really seem like my job, and even though they've allegedly dealt with numerous veteran patients before.....you'd think they know how to send it, but whatever). So once that got cleared up, I was told that the authorization would be sent to the insurance for the procedure, but "all VA patients require a psych evaluation first". This was a new one for me, and I've never had a psychological diagnosis before, so I was extremely confused. This is where the fun began. I spent over a month calling back and forth between the VA, the insurance (who they said requires this), and the pain clinic. The VA was confused, had no idea what they were talking about, the insurance (TriWest) had NO CLUE why the pain clinic said they needed that, and no one in general could tell me WHAT exactly was needed in writing from the clinic. Because the office seemed confused and oblivious to my physical pain, not to mention uncaring, I told them to just send me to whoever they use for VA patients to get this done. The sent me to a woman who works in a nearby building who is a COUNSELOR, not a psychiatrist, not psychologist, a counselor. She made an appointment for me, without my permission, and gave me 24 hours notice (less than I think) for an appointment, at which time she told me she IS NOT in the VA insurance network and the consult fee was $200. You've got to be kidding me. I thought, because I had asked this, I was being sent to someone within the network, but it took me showing up to the appointment to find out I was not and I was expected to pay with cash or card out of pocket. So here I am, the patient, stuck between and rock and a hard place, in significant daily pain following spinal surgery, and no one from this office can help, nor do they care to. After again speaking with the insurance today, they assured me that they in no way require any sort of mental health evaluation prior to procedures like this and approvals are sent back fairly quickly. I again, called the office and spoke to Serena who said they would just go ahead and submit the request for approval for the procedure without it and get back to me in around 2 weeks time with an answer. THEY NEVER EVEN SUBMITTED THE REQUEST, THEY JUST ASSUMED THEY NEEDED THIS EVALUATION BEFORE TRIWEST EVEN SAW THE REQUEST FOR APPROVAL.They told me they would be submitting it the day of my appointment!!!!!!! I'm shocked and disgusted with the level of incompetent communication with this office. Maybe they had someone in the past who had a psychological diagnosis and TriWest required this prior, but it was a horrible miscommunication to just assume (especially when NOT ONE SINGLE STAFF MEMBER could tell me what it was......memo, medical record, etc) I needed this without the request. TriWest told me several times they've never even heard of this being a requirement before, and this came from several employees and supervisors. Update: I received a phone call today from Karina, the hospital manager. More than once she apologized but only apologized that I felt the way I did about the business, she did not at all attempt to take responsibility and just called the mistakes miscommunications. She also completely reversed what Selena and other employees had said about insurance requiring the psychological evaluation and said instead that the clinic required it, but she was gracious enough to offer to ask the doctor if he would do the procedure without the evaluation. So again, the story has changed. She then gave me the impression that she was implying that after speaking to multiple employees about the conversations had with me that I was the one in the wrong and the employees were telling her things different from what I was saying. I thought I was being called a liar even though doing so would clearly not benefit me in the least. She told me the phone calls were recorded even, and I suggested she listen to them, I insisted on it actually. I went to the location in Fort Worth and saw Dr. Teddrick Dunson. I had a horrible experience with the utterly INCOMPETENT staff. The doctor isn't remarkable enough to endure the endless stupidity and lack of consideration that exists among the staff that must have a collective IQ of 3. Be warned: they will change your appointment without telling you, and then refuse to see you when you show up on time. They will make you wait at least an hour and a half even if you are the ONLY one here. Go somewhere else. I contacted Central Texas Pain Center in Austin and was referred to their office in San Antonio. I asked them if everything would be covered by my insurance. They assured me that there wouldn't even be a copay. I would owe them nothing after the procedure was done. About a month later, I got a bill for $35. I paid it, and about a month later I got another bill for $288.91. I called the San Antonio office and a VERY rude woman told me that insurance would cover everything, but I just didn't have good insurance. So, I guess it was a play on words when she told me originally that insurance would cover everything. I have Blue Cross, so I am not aware of other companies that are supposedly better. So I just feel very ripped off. Doctor charged $2500 for a simple diagnostic procedure that didn't even stop the pain. God only knows what I'll pay out of pocket if I let him actually fix my back. read more
