last year, my health took a giant shit all over me and I almost died a handful of times. it's left me in debilitating pain, so I see emily bowden at the william cannon location. with our visits, I feel like emily actually listens to me, or very much pretends too (which works for me). she's diagnosed me with cool sounding things like fibromyalgia, neuropathy & spinal arthritis! yeah!! more labels!! that just means I hurt all over and my body hates me. emily took me off narcotics (minus one star. I mean, come on) and replaced that with four other medications. we are looking into injections and further ways to help with pain. I appreciate that pain clinics exist & people like emily really try to help and empathize with chronic and excruciating pain.

A wonderful and caring place for patients.

I've been taking my father here for a couple of years for back pain treatments. The staff is friendly and attentive. The reception area is clean and has CURRENT magazines. There is a commercial Keurig with several kinds of coffee too. I mean when you're waiting for an hour and a half these small things count. As far as treatments are concerned my father has finally found a source of relief that he can count on.

I inherited what I call my father's Query Engine Mind, which has served me well in becoming a writer and a published author whose non-fiction book on UFOs has been selling steadily on Amazon for five years on April 9th. My research skills have also enabled me to scope out the best in their fields, which came in handy when I recently re-injured a herniated disc at L4-5 (which apparently is a more complex mess now than it was 25+ years ago when the snow skiing accident started it all), and I have lucked into a superb operation called the Greater Austin Pain Center. When Dr. Alan Silberberg walked into the consultation room, shook my hand, sat down and opened with, "I've studied your MRI images carefully, and you're in a real pickle here, buddy," I knew I'd met my doctor. He radiates intelligence the way my Dad did, and he's extremely blunt and direct and doesn't sugarcoat the facts--all the elements I need in a doctor for me to feel confident I'm in good hands. We've taken the approach of doing spinal epidurals (the same treatment that was very effective for me with the original injury), and I had my first session this week. I was face down on an operating table, so I can't visually describe what was done, but I can say that the needles weren't artlessly jammed into my lower back, they were slowly finessed into the damaged areas, and the steroid/pain killer mix was injected slowly and then with a more steady progression. The artful skill being utilized here was quite noticeable and greatly appreciated, and it clearly minimized the application pain (I chose no sedation). This doctor's impressive online CV most definitely matches his performance. Dr. Silberberg is surrounded by a top-notch staff of clinical professionals and front end office people, mostly an all-female crew. I've encountered nothing but friendly and polite helpfulness from everybody, both on the phone and in person. If they can maintain their level of excellence, friendliness and efficiency across the board, then I hope they corner the market here in Central Texas. My Dad often said, "The cream always rises to the top." Dr. Alan Silberberg and his crew have proven this to me. If you're a self-paying client like I am, this is the Go-To Team for you. They treat me great, and they've impressed me beyond words. I got lucky the day I found them.

He ordered a MRI and prescribed Gabapentin. I filled the prescription but the list of possible side effects were terrifying. I was informed he would not recommend or prescribed anything until after the MRI. There was zero concern for my pain nor any follow-up after I did the MRI which showed several issues. MY GP saw the MRI and stated that my pain must be intense and it was. Dr. Mancera obviously did not care about the pain due to his lack of follow-up or willingness to prescribe anything else but a medication that after research I did not feel safe taking. I felt unheard and uncared for. I would not recommend.

Although they seemed to know what they were doing, I didn't get very much relief. Billing was an absolute nightmare however. I got bills that didn't make any sense. Spent hours and hours trying to get it straightened out. After months of tremendous frustration, they got a woman who was actually able to help with it. They had made several BIG mistakes (billing twice for the same thing, etc.), that were always in THEIR favor. Eventually, got it squared away (I ended up owing over $2,000 less than they were trying to get from me). By then treatment was complete and their new "suggestions" weren't terribly helpful (for instance, a $2,500 back brace which wouldn't allow me to sit in my chair at work). Just not very good at what they do and terrible at billing. I'm very glad that I'm not dealing with them anymore. There are plenty of other really good Pain Management Practices around.

After waiting over an hour past my appointment, I finally saw Dr. Marco Uribe III, who barely looked at me. He did not examine me or even review the medical history paperwork I was required to fill out before the appointment. He completely ignored the injury that is clearly visible on my MRI and refused to prescribe any real pain medication, saying he "doesn't give meds to people he just met." I've already done physical therapy, chiropractic, and home care. I didn't show up looking for a handout. I showed up because my back gave out. Instead of helping, he suggested a pain psychiatrist and listed meds like Celebrex, Meloxicam, and Lyrica, none of which help with sudden, severe pain. He said he would prescribe a muscle relaxer but never sent it. When I called the main line, the clerk refused to transfer me to the actual clinic, saying "they're with patients" without even checking, and said it could take two days. She wouldn't let me speak with anyone. Honestly, I paid for unnecessary co-pays, a drug test, and X-rays, all to be ignored and dismissed. Worst pain-management visit I've ever had.
