Several months, several tests, 2 MRI's, and 3 nerve stimulation tests later, VASUDEVAN insisted we do a further nerve test. His office, after ALL TESTS, tells me at the end of the day, they don't accept my insurance after all. Better yet, Vasudevan concludes it may be just stress.... Now... I have no problem paying my co-pay because my insurance was covering most of it and I know i still had a deductible to meet. I really needed that care, but it was a fucking joke. I'm still to this day in even more pain. His front desk lied straight to my face, they constantly have furious other patients as I've seen many time in the front office with my own eyes and ears. the front desk ignored my calls several weeks in a row as I was out of work during this fisco because I couldn't even turn my head left or right. No matter how many voicemails I left. I needed paperwork to state I was in his care to show my employer why l've been in care. This whole practice made it nothing but stressful to where I was crying everyday wondering when/if ever will they call me back? I needed this man's signature and shame on him and this whole practice so ignoring a patient in need. Now I hammer myself with lidocaine patches to numb the pain and l'm miserable every damn day. This whole practice is a joke. DO NOT even bother.

I was referred to Dr. V from my pain specialist and from the moment I met him, I felt at ease. He took the time to understand my story, my condition, and after ordering new MRI and X-ray images, he recommended a minimally-invasive TLIF procedure. My discs had severely degenerated over time and a fusion was necessary to decompress the spine and give space to the nerves. Leading up to surgery Dr. V walked me through the whole process and made sure I understood exactly what to expect. After the procedure was over, he was in constant communication and made sure I was recovering properly. I saw Dr. V again for the 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month check-ups and he again made sure I was informed and healing the right way. If you have back pain, you need to go see Dr. V. He will get to the root of the issue and only recommend surgery if it's absolutely necessary for relief. I wish I would have seen him years ago.

A little background: After surgery for nerve pain in my neck (two vertebrate fused) I continued to have problems. I was prescribed pain killers including opioids and Lyrica and nothing was working. I was then referred to a pain management clinic which did injections, nerve blocks, ablations and I was prescribed additional controlled narcotics. All the while they seemed to be focused on setting me up for a spinal stimulator trial. In fact, they got the approval from my insurance before even trying the blocks and ablations. I felt like the goal of the treatment was the implant and I didn't feel comfortable with their line of treatment. So it was time for a second opinion. Fast forward to Dr. Moroz. He agreed to see me and asked for all of my previous MRIs, CTs, physical therapy, etc... When I arrived for the appt it was obvious he had done his homework and was familiar with my history. His approach was let's deal with the pain, and not worry about what had been done in the past. It was history and couldn't changed. After a thorough discussion he addressed the pain simply by prescribing a prescription strength NSAID and cold compresses. No opioids or other pain killers! Two days later I was without pain. He also ordered another MRI to rule out any other issues or complications... which showed no additional problems. Today I had a follow-up appt via phone (I was offered in an office, video or phone appt) and we discussed follow up options. Since I was no longer in pain, he did not recommend any additional treatments, which I loved. His only goal was that I was in no pain! To say the least, I am super impressed with his knowledge, treatment, bedside manner and staff. See him before you have surgery! You could possibly save yourself weeks or months of pain and significant amounts of money. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten a second opinion before the first surgery, which may have resulted in no surgery a all! While I'm at it. Let me also recommend the Doctor who referred me. It might not make sense on the surface, since he is a dermatologist. But I've seen Dr. Jason S. Reichenberg for over 15 years and trust his advise explicitly. So, if you need a dermatologist, he's the guy.

He kept cutting me off mid sentence and never even got to my actual pain complaints until the end as an afterthought. I came to her practice last summer, 5 years post surgery with yet another herniated L5-S1 disc (same one as before) at the ripe old age of 35. Not only did she diagnosis the current problem, but really dug into my lifestyle and worked to figure out the why as to what could have caused a re-herniation again so soon. Then she developed a thoughtful plan of what actions she would recommend taking to prevent it from happening again in the future. She uses a fabulous combination of eastern and western medicine, integrating Chinese herbs/medicine, acupuncture, meditation, diet and lifestyle. My back is healed up, I'm down 20 pounds, and I've learned what to look for in terms of stressors and diet/inflammation factors and what a lasting impact they can have on your body. Additionally, she is at the fore-front of cutting edge technology with her stem cell research. Most people (rightfully so) are terrified of surgery, especially when its on your spine/nerves. I never felt anything but trust and safety when I was in Marcella's care. Obviously, I hope I never have to have surgery again, but if I did, I'd find a way to fly to Austin for her to be my surgeon again and again.

Dr STOKES WOULD NOT SEE ME IN HIS OFFICE. THERE WAS NO INTAKE, THERE WAS NO 'BEDSIDE MANNER'. THE WOMAN WHO CALLED ME BACK SPENT 10 MINUTES TELLING ME WHY HE DID NOT SEE ANY POINT IN MEETING WITH ME. I'VE BEEN ON 80MG OF Hydrocodone since 2000. In January, my primary care said he wanted to turn me over to a 'spine specialist'. First I saw a Dr. Church at Capitol Pain Institute, who was a dream. We were titrating down to 60mg... Dr Church was compassionate, caring and he LISTENED and researched my condition. After that, the OWNER of CPI, a dr Shockett said he fired Dr Church, slashed what Dr. Church has as my current medications by half, and did nothing whatever to HELP me. Did not recommend surgery, did not suggest therapy. HE TOLD ME HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW IF I WAS REALLY IN PAIN. I AM in pain, but I'm more concerned with continuing to live, and be able to WALK. I don't want to be bed ridden, as Dr Schokett has left me when he apparently changed my history? I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S HAPPENED WITH SPINAL CONDITIONS, THE DOCTORS IN AUSTIN, TEXAS WON'T EVEN TAKE PATIENTS? I'M HAPPY TO SHARE MY MRI RESULTS TO ANY DOCTOR WHO WILL TAKE ME AS A PATIENT.

What impressed us about Dr. Stokes and his staff: (1) He didn't rush to suggest surgery, he wants to gather more information (including more testing) and get a very complete picture before recommending a treatment plan. Some other surgeons just recommended fusion surgery without looking as deep. (2) He pulled up a 3D spine model on his large iPad and showed us the anatomy of all the parts and what's causing the pain. I can't overemphasize how helpful this was to our understanding. It's a far cry from a static illustration, or even a handheld model. (3) He spent a lot of time with us and we never felt rushed. (4) His P.A., Katie, similarly spent a lot of time with us, wanting to know everything about T's problems and health history in order to get a full picture. The only problem was that we'd returned some of the new patient paperwork by emailing back a PDF (that they haven't yet put on the web), to the LVN, and the LVN emailed back that he got it and entered it, but when we arrived at our appointment, staff insisted repeatedly that it wasn't in the system...until they eventually found it.

I inherited what I call my father's Query Engine Mind, which has served me well in becoming a writer and a published author whose non-fiction book on UFOs has been selling steadily on Amazon for five years on April 9th. My research skills have also enabled me to scope out the best in their fields, which came in handy when I recently re-injured a herniated disc at L4-5 (which apparently is a more complex mess now than it was 25+ years ago when the snow skiing accident started it all), and I have lucked into a superb operation called the Greater Austin Pain Center. When Dr. Alan Silberberg walked into the consultation room, shook my hand, sat down and opened with, "I've studied your MRI images carefully, and you're in a real pickle here, buddy," I knew I'd met my doctor. He radiates intelligence the way my Dad did, and he's extremely blunt and direct and doesn't sugarcoat the facts--all the elements I need in a doctor for me to feel confident I'm in good hands. We've taken the approach of doing spinal epidurals (the same treatment that was very effective for me with the original injury), and I had my first session this week. I was face down on an operating table, so I can't visually describe what was done, but I can say that the needles weren't artlessly jammed into my lower back, they were slowly finessed into the damaged areas, and the steroid/pain killer mix was injected slowly and then with a more steady progression. The artful skill being utilized here was quite noticeable and greatly appreciated, and it clearly minimized the application pain (I chose no sedation). This doctor's impressive online CV most definitely matches his performance. Dr. Silberberg is surrounded by a top-notch staff of clinical professionals and front end office people, mostly an all-female crew. I've encountered nothing but friendly and polite helpfulness from everybody, both on the phone and in person. If they can maintain their level of excellence, friendliness and efficiency across the board, then I hope they corner the market here in Central Texas. My Dad often said, "The cream always rises to the top." Dr. Alan Silberberg and his crew have proven this to me. If you're a self-paying client like I am, this is the Go-To Team for you. They treat me great, and they've impressed me beyond words. I got lucky the day I found them.

I wish that I could have had this information prior.. I was referred here regarding pain from an auto accident. I was aware of the hefty cost ($1000 for an initial consultation visit), but was willing to pay for this doctor's expertise and opinion in reviewing my injuries. I arrived early for my appointment, and was taken back to the room in a reasonable amount of time. After the nurse took my vitals, she informed me that Dr. V would be in to see me "in a few minutes." Well, the minutes ticked by with no sign of Dr. V. After about 20 minutes of waiting, the nurse came back in & said Dr. V would just be "a few more minutes." I wound up being back in the room for a full hour PAST my appointment time when Dr. V finally bothered to come in, at which point the wait time was not acknowledged. We reviewed my history briefly, and he said really to formulate his opinion, I would need to go back and get two more MRIs so that he could see the full spine (I had already gotten one MRI). That was pretty frustrating, because I had specifically called prior to my appointment to confirm with his staff that they had everything that they would need for Dr. V to provide an opinion. I offered to go back and get additional MRIs done if that was going to be needed, and even requested they check with the on-site nurse at the time, to see if they would be helpful. After holding, I was reassured that just the one MRI was enough and I should come into the appointment to see Dr. V. Okay, so now I've paid $1000 out of pocket, just for him to tell me to go get two more MRIs. Cool. So I went and got the MRIs, & went back for a follow-up visit (which is an additional $600). Again, I arrived right on time and was taken back reasonably. Again, the nurse did her job and left me to wait for Dr. V, who would be in in "just a few minutes." This time, I was waiting for over 40 minutes in the room before Dr. V came in. The thing about Dr. V ~ he does not have good bedside manner. He'll make small talk with you, but he's not looking at you nor listening, rather, pulling up your file, making notes, etc. In the first 5 minutes of my time with Dr. V, he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket to check it three times. At the third occurrence, I asked him if I was interrupting anything, to which he replied no, that the hospital keeps calling him and he doesn't know why. Again, no acknowledgement of my wait time nor the lack of consideration in checking his phone when I was paying handsomely for his time. Well, he reviewed those MRIs and ultimately said that there's nothing he can do for me as far as treatment goes, and referred me to Pain Management. On my way out, I spoke with the office manager, and outlined my concerns. I was very gracious and understanding, but shared that I do not think my time was respected. I have a life - a job, a family - to plan around in order to make these appointments work. Not only was I not seen at the promised appointment time, but left in a room to wait for multiple hours over the course of just two visits. I courteously asked for a credit to my bill as consideration for MY time. I was given a lot of empathy, "I get what you're saying & I agree," and she offered to share the feedback with Dr. V and call me back. Of course, she did not call me back, so when I reached her back she again gave some apologies and acknowledgement, and said that she reviewed with Dr. V and they had decided that they were unable to credit my account balance. So, I cannot control what's on the MRI, but he has the audacity to charge me THOUSANDS of dollars for less than one hour of his time, yet refuses to acknowledge that MY time is worth anything at all. In summary, this establishment: * Does not value their patient's time * Supports a doctor who checks his phone while in the room w/ a patient * had a crappy blood pressure cuff that they literally asked me to hold in place so it wouldn't fall off Patients BEWARE
