Second visit to discuss surgery was exactly as fine! From entering to leaving their office, I felt like a very special person, a king!!! Their work is excellent, including Dr. Gallagher's. The surgery went as he had explained. The recovery was as expected. Candidly, the first 2 weeks was a bit uneasy. But the two catheters into the upper and lower knee kept pain at bay for the first 5 days. Then the Prescriptions definitely helped me minimize pain for the next 4 weeks until I was out and about. I ran out of one of the meds and used the portal to reach Dr. Gallagher. He ordered those from my neighborhood pharmacy and my wife picked them up in couple of hours. I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee.

Taylor Lackey is professional, knowledgeable, and very well manages his time. Most of my visits, I have be able to see him in just 5 minutes. Only one time that I needed to wait about half an hour. Overall never a very long wait. Dr. Lackey well planed and it really helped saving patients' time. When he knew the reasons of my visit, he ordered me for an x-ray in prior to see him, and he told me that I could call to get an MRI order without the need to go to his office again. I have seen Dr. Lackey for my tennis and golf elbows, my dislocated tendon at my pinky finger, and lately a lump at my inner elbow. He is very attentive and provided me with the necessary physical therapy and medication. Claudia, Dr. Lackey's Medical Assistant, has been very kind, considerate, and attentive. She has tried her best to coordinate the doctor's orders and the x-ray unit in order to make it as fast and effective as possible. She has gone over everything slowly to make sure I understand everything right. Maybe the clinic has been too busy lately causing me a hard time reaching her. I left 2 voice messages and have been waiting over 48 hours, but never got a call back. I needed to leave the 3rd message before getting a call back causing me almost unable to get my MRI scheduled before my long trip. The front desk ladies or the scheduling ladies are very nice, always very helpful and are excellent at their jobs! When she knew I couldn't get a schedule at Austin Sports Medicine Lab, she recommended me 3 other labs in Austin and the near by areas and fax out my MRI order to all other labs right away. Finally, I could get my MRI scheduled on the last day before my traveling. I have experienced some difficulty at the x-ray unit inside Austin Sports Medicine. I have had conditions at both of my arms, but the x-ray technologist did the x-ray only one of my arms. I told him right away, but he refused to check even if I asked him politely and more than one time. When Claudia found out, she talked to the technologist and asked him to do the x-ray again for my another arm. Instead of fixing the mistake and having me next in line, he seemed upset and put me the last in line! And this time I waited over 30-40 minutes and still couldn't get an x-ray. Ended up Claudia told me that Dr. Lackey would pull my old x-ray for my another arm, so I didn't need to wait longer. I just wish the technologist was cared to listen to patients and spent a little time double check things. It could help prevent the mistakes from happening and save a large a mount of time for both patients and himself. In Sum: I highly recommend Austin Sports Medicine and Dr J. Taylor Lackey!

Not very impressed with this office at all…read more First - There is zero parking available. (The worst I've ever seen at a doctor's office). People were circling, and alot were parked illegally, even in the grass. I was forced to park next door at all the retail shops, even though there were a ton of signs saying they'd tow. Not really a great first impression. Second - My appointment with Dr. Meghpara felt very rushed, and was not near as thorough as other doctor's I've seen (and what I would require to consider it a worthwhile visit). It was my fault for not getting x-rays from another doctor over in time before my appointment (the office didn't remind me to bring any, and I honestly just didn't think about it until a few days before). I did bring my MRI images and report, and he basically said he had no use for those. I asked if we should take another X-ray at the office, so that he could see my current state, and he basically said it wasn't necessary. He also had me do only a few movements in the office (totaling about 10 seconds) to test out my pain, whereas two other doctors had alot more comprehensive exam. He then proceeded to give me his opinion without examining any x-rays or (from what it seemed) the MRI CDs I had brought in. He just went off of what I told him my situation was, what my last doctor had said (a few weeks before), and basically agreed with that assessment. At this point I was just ready to leave, as I was already disappointed and knew that he is not a doctor I would return to. I wish I would've just avoided going there for another opinion, and wasting $80.

At her second appointment -- just 10 days after the fracture -- Dr. Robert Blais asked about her pain level. She explained that she was still experiencing significant pain. At that point, he stated he was concerned she could have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We were stunned. It had been 10 days since a confirmed broken bone. From what we understand, pain at that stage is not unusual. While waiting for imaging, my daughter searched CRPS online. She discovered it is sometimes referred to as the "suicide disease" because of the severe, chronic pain associated with advanced cases. By the time we left the appointment, she was in tears -- terrified that she was facing a life-altering diagnosis. Whether CRPS should or should not have been mentioned that early is a medical judgment. What is not debatable is the emotional impact of introducing a severe, worst-case condition to a 22-year-old patient so soon after a routine fracture -- without clear context about probability, diagnostic criteria, or reassurance. The result was immediate and profound distress. Physicians absolutely have a duty to consider complications. They also have a responsibility to communicate carefully, proportionately, and with awareness of the psychological impact their words carry. This was our experience. Parents and patients: ask questions. Ask about likelihood. Ask about timing. Ask whether a concern is common, rare, or simply precautionary. And if something feels disproportionate, seek a second opinion. Advocacy matters.

We had a very concerning experience with Dr. Vilas Saldanha (Texas Orthopedics), on-call at St…read more David's Round Rock Medical Center, during my 93-year-old mother's treatment after a fall. Dr. Saldanha did not directly communicate with my mother at any point during her hospitalization. He never greeted her or spoke to her, and all communication was directed to me, even though she was the patient. That set the tone for the entire experience. After a closed reduction, she was provided a shoulder immobilizer, but only the sling portion was applied. The abduction pillow component was not used or explained, and there was confusion among hospital staff and physical therapy about how the full device was meant to be used. As a result, she effectively wore only the sling for about three weeks, with no clear written instructions or proper guidance on its use. No physical therapy instructions were provided. Physical therapy later contacted Dr. Saldanha's office and was told she could begin weight-bearing exercises on the knee that had been described as having a "cracked patella." No PT was recommended for her shoulder. At follow-up, the physician assistant said the knee was "chipped," stopped the exercises, and asked whether a knee brace had been provided (it had not). He indicated a small stability brace could still be helpful. At the same visit, we were told her shoulder had become misaligned again. Shoulder replacement was briefly mentioned by the PA but immediately dismissed with the comment that "we wouldn't want her to not wake up from surgery." Despite the worsening alignment, the treatment plan remained unchanged, except that she could now "dangle her arm," and we were told to return in four weeks. We sought an immediate second opinion. That orthopedist found the shoulder was severely damaged with multiple fractures and required urgent reverse shoulder replacement with CT planning. We were also told the knee was already beyond the window for intervention. After a thorough evaluation, surgery was performed, and I'm happy to say she is now recovering well. The difference in evaluation, communication, and clarity between the two experiences was striking. In our experience, this was not appropriate care for a medically vulnerable elderly patient, and I would not recommend this physician for elderly patients or similar cases.

He has taken care of trigger fingers, a bicep tear, rotatory cuff, and carpal tunnel. He does not advocate for surgery until there are no other options. I have had 2 surgeries and they have both been a success. Dr. Amis also has a great rapport with his patients. Friendly, calm, and caring. Also, wait time in minimal with appointments.

When I met Dr. Shock -- his first words to me were "How about we get this fixed up?" -- I was stunned after living with this pain for over 2 years. :) It turned out that I had a torn 'longus peroneal tendon' that he was able to diagnose with an MRI. Why no other doctor thought of that before, I have no idea. I suffered through the injections, creams, socks, inserts with other doctors without any relief. I had the peroneal tenodesis surgery and was walking without pain within 2 weeks of surgery! Doctor Shock is an amazing doctor and just a very friendly and welcoming guy -- I feel like I've known him for years! :) I highly recommend him for any foot pain that you may be enduring now -- you can be completely confident that he will fix you right up!

I underwent bunion surgery on my right foot, along with correction of another toe. Unfortunately, the final outcome has been very disappointing. Following surgery, my big toe healed with a significant gap between it and my second toe, creating an unnatural appearance that has never improved. In addition, the toe that was corrected with a pin never healed properly and now "floats" rather than resting naturally on the ground. Despite prolonged taping and following the postoperative instructions provided, these issues never resolved. I became so dissatisfied with the outcome that I ultimately chose not to return for additional treatment. I understand that no surgery comes with guarantees, but I feel my concerns and the long term appearance and function of my foot were not adequately addressed. Years later, I remain unhappy with the results and regret having had the procedure performed. Based on my personal experience and outcome, I cannot recommend this surgeon.
