Our daughter has been a patient with CTPO for seventeen years (first with Dr. John Williams and, after his retirement, Dr. Kirsten Ross), through a long and challenging journey with congenital scoliosis and thoracic insufficiency syndrome. She had five years with VEPTR rods, three years with MAGEC rods, and just had her final spinal fusion. Her previous treatments resulted in a lot of spontaneous fusion in her spine and ribs that made the final surgery a big challenge, but Dr. Ross did an amazing job of balancing correction and safety. Dr. Ross was able to achieve more correction than any of us expected or hoped for. Along the way, she genuinely listened to our daughter, answered her questions, and respected and addressed her concerns and fears. We will always be grateful for how much she improved our daughter's quality of life. We have also had a fantastic experience with all of the physical therapists she has encountered. Dr. Julia Morgan in particular has a gentle but encouraging attitude that helps my daughter push through challenges and grow with each session. read more

We waited one hour in the waiting room after being referred by our pediatrician for a broken bone. Scheduling the appointment took about 20 minutes and required sharing (and spelling) lots of personal information on the phone. When we arrived I had to fill out papers with all the same information, again. There are a lot of cubicles in the administrative area. They also talk a lot about billing and fees. It suggested that the whole thing is a racket. After waiting an hour for our scheduled appointment in the waiting room, we left before being called back. I don't know how many visits they're going to want us to make for this, but if visits require a one hour wait at minimum, there are other places we can go. read more

Dr. Ellington is awesome, but the facility is a nightmare. The front desk scheduler was beyond rude. Then, when I was making sure our referral got over, no one ever responded. When I get there, I have the printed out referral from our PCP, and they still claim it isn't the correct referral. My PCP confirms now that they sent it over a second time,e but no one from this facility will respond to their portal messages to confirm that they have what they need. read more

Waited 1 hour past appointment. Was told MRI always shows fracture when there is none. Yet when I asked for follow up MRI for my grandson, I am bei g told it will.just healed bone. What is it ? Brought my little one in to the south office and Dr. Heidemann was so nice and thorough! Although I had many questions, he took his time addressing my concerns. Natalie was so good with my little one & Holly was very helpful (witty too) and insisted that I reach out for any issue. She even made my daughter laugh. Our visit was wonderful from start to finish! Dr Heydeman was great! He had a cheerful, playful attitude with my daughter. He also respected that my daughter (5 years) did not want to be touched or have her leg manipulated by him or anyone else in the office and found different ways to test her mobility through play! Great care for scoliosis! Dr. Kaufman took very good care of my daughter. He's an excellent surgeon with a heart for his patients. He got to know her, asked her a ton of questions, educated her on the surgery, followed up with her many times. We are lucky to have a doctor like this in Austin so we don't have to leave the city for majors surgeries like this. read more

I would avoid if possible. Despite what you read on their website their number one priority is to separate you from as much of your money as quickly as possible. Despite doctors knowing my kid did not have Scoliosis they wanted an X-ray just to be on the safe side. Put me out 700 bucks for a stupid X-ray that wasn't even needed. Even if it was needed, 700 dollars? What a bunch of criminals. If you do not have insurance or have high deductible insurance I would try to discuss cost ahead of time (of course they will not do it because it will hurt their racket). We visited this office due to an incident my son had at school. While the office staff was very kind in giving us a same day appointment, our experience with Dr. Kirsten Ross was horrible. The nurse and technician were very careful and considerate of my son and understanding of the pain from his injury. However, Dr. Kirsten Ross did not show any empathy and was very rude. First, she barged into the room without greeting. She then abruptly asked about the incident and how the injury came about. My son explained, she then proceeded to press on the injury without informing us what she would do or the reason. As my son cried in pain, she responded very abruptly and rude stating she needed to check to evaluate. While I understand she needed to check him and it may hurt, she did not show any empathy for the pain he was going through. I was shocked at her behavior and was speechless. After leaving the office and reflecting more on this, I was very upset with my self for not speaking up and kindly pointing her demeanor. In her bio on the CTPO website, she states that her role is to educate parents and children and that she enjoys sitting down and getting to know her patient's families, each child's likes and dislikes. From our experience from this visit, this was NOT the experience we had. If she truly enjoys getting to know her patients, she would have taken time to understand and be sympathetic to my son's pain and not abruptly check him without any explanation or "education" as he cried in pain. read more

Everything in this review is my opinion...(I went to the one in Cedar park) This place recommends x-rays before the Dr. even sees the patient. Nice. I come from a medical family and this is not standard practice unless it's obviously warranted, ummm, it wasn't even close. Of course since there is no consultation about any reasoning behind an x-ray or how much this costs or even see a Dr. before x-rays, you feel a little strapped over a barrel, like you're a bad mom unless you spend an outrageous amount of money for x-rays you don't need. I actually brought my daughter in for another issue which they did an okay job with. However, she fell the day before (very, very mildly swollen wrist and NO bruising). I only mentioned bc we were already there! Never again. Apparently, the doctor needed multiple x-rays to tell me the obvious. She hurt her wrist, it's sore. Duh. Thanks. Don't go here unless you're prepared to walk out with a minimum of a $700 bill. I really hate it when medical professionals soil the name by taking advantage of patients. Not to mention: As a new patient you pay $497 for literally walking in the door. They conveniently don't mention that as they say "oh you can pay after services" hahaha. I'm sure people would get the #*%#%#% out of there if they knew highway robbery was about to happen. . And they charged $75 for a Velcro wrist band that you can buy at Walmart for $15. In my opinion, you have to question the legitimacy of this practice. read more

COVID WARNING!!!! First off, my appointment was rescheduled last minute without my knowledge. When i get there I was told my child would be seeing the doctors assistant and we would still be paying full price. While waiting to see the assistant nurse i over heard a conversation between 2-3 ladies complaining about being short staffed do to a COVID outbreak and they had over 3 people who had called out that day. Right then i wanted to run out but my child really needed to be seen for an injury This experience was very sickning and scary zero stars if i could. They must not be practicing social distancing or even cleaning their office!!!!! When i was stopped to pay no sanitary items were offered to patients or available for use. When i asked if anyone has some i was told no and given attitude. No wonder they are having people sick, they all sit so close, no 6 ft inbetween anyone. Very sad. Robert Dehne, MD is the doctor that we used at this practice. We have seen Dr. Dehne for the past 3 years for our daughters Curly/Hammer toe and pigeon toe. Dr. Dehne recommended shoe inserts as well as physical therapy before we had to resort to surgery for my daughter. He was correct on the correction for pigeon toe and tried all alternatives before resorting to the surgery. This, in itself, would have made us converts, but Dr. Dehne and his staff went the extra mile for us. Dr. Dehen orginnaly booked our surgery at Dell's children Hospital, but when we balked at the price and started to shop around for less expensive surgery centers, his staff found that we could have the surgery performed in the "Strictly Pediatrics Subspecialty Center." He went out of his way to clear a spot for us and performed the surgery without a hitch. To top it off, he gave my daughter a candy cane cast as it was during the holidays. Dr. Dehne expounds energy and you can see this during his appointments. We went to 3 different doctors to look at my daughters problems, and Dr. Dehne was the best at describing and correcting the issues. I do not trust just anybody with my babies... so Dr. Dehne is unique in this.. and I would trust him with any of my children going forward. read more

Don't go here! Like some of the other reviews, our experience was awful and they will gouge you on charges! It started out with all the ridiculous and irrelevant questions on the new patient forms. Next, the front office staff is very rude. Lastly, the charge was outrageous! They charged $872 for a 15 minute consultation with the doctor and 1 x-ray that was probably unnecessary since they already had a current x-ray on file from ARA. I called the office manager who was also very rude. I will be following up with my insurance company when they process the claim to verify that they applied the right codes and the charges were legitimate. read more

I had a heck of a time trying to get an appointment here via referral. The front office staff (with the exception of the kind and efficient lady at the waiting room front counter) was snippy and cold. AND the wait was incredibly long on the day of our appointment (45 minutes-1 hour). HOWEVER, the PA was sweet as pie and the doctor (although rushed) was helpful. The lady that did my daughter's cast was also extremely patience and gentle with her. My biggest complaint is probably the fact that this is a pediatric office and building, and they don't have things to keep children occupied during the long wait times in the waiting room. They have two very old used and abused bead mazes and that's it. No books or even adult magazines for kids to flip through and look at pictures. The maze that has activities on the side is broken and frustrated children who were kicking it and screaming. I was even looking for a pamphlet or some sort and there was nothing to be found or provided when I asked. My daughter was bored after 5 minutes as were the other children. In the interior waiting rooms they had some very used kids books and blocks and a chalkboard wall for kids to write on. If this was in the waiting room (and some books out there or a tv) - kids would be occupied for so much longer. It wasn't the most pleasant experience. I won't give the name of the person that I would really love to complain about but she told me (without being a doctor or pa, without seeing my daughter, and without seeing the xrays) that my daughter would need surgery when I inquired about an appointment. Can I just say how PARANOID and in tears I was for those 5 hours it took to actually get the appointment scheduled, freaking out that my little would be having surgery. Shout out to MARIAH who is a sweetheart and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. She stands out and deserves an award. 5 stars for Mariah. read more

We have had 2 different broken bones and both times the doctors here took excellent care of us. Dr. Gottschalk was kind and caring and explained everything to us and got our girl taken care of quickly. Dr. Ellington recently did surgery on her arm and was amazing. We had a wonderful experience here! From making the appointment all the way through check out, everyone was pleasant and patient. We saw Dr. Gottschalk and his PA, Morgan. Both were very friendly and great with our 2 year old. We only waited a few minutes past our appointment time before we were called back, but once we were, everyone came through very quickly and we were out of there in less than 30 minutes. I would definitely recommend this doctor and his staff to any of my friend or family! The only annoying part was parking--allow yourself extra time for that and be sure to bring a credit card for quicker entry/exit. read more

The recent visit just affirmed my love for this place Where Dr. Ellington was able to do a closed reduction inspite of letting us know the possibility of surgery . Taking a moment to write a review for Dr. Gottschalk. He has taken care of our daughter with a complicated elbow break and is now taking care of our son with a fractured finger. We first brought our daughter into the ER on a saturday evening around 7 pm. Due to the nature of the break they paged Dr. Gottschalk, who had been at dinner with his wife and friends, in to the hospital to take a look. He couldn't have been more welcoming, gracious and calming to worried parents. He did the reduction that evening, completely missing his evening out, rather than have her come back the next day, and did a beautiful job. His patient skills with kids are terrific and its adorable to see him manage to get them to smile and feel safe even when they are hurt. My daughter healed with full and perfect range of motion and Dr. Gottschalk followed up several times to make sure she was healing correctly. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer that the service is good but that the charges are really high. My child had an office visit for a break, we saw the doctor for 15 minutes. The kid was given a brace, not a cast and we left the office in less than 30 minutes after being initially seen. There was a reasonable charge for X-rays, brace + fitting of the brace. On top of these fees there was the Dr's fee which came out to over $1300. That is outrageous. More than $1300 for 15 minutes? Again I was pleased with the Dr, and the care we received, but no wonder my insurance keeps on going up if Dr's charge that much money for so little time. I called the billing service listed on the bill and they were really arrogant. A waste of my time and very frustrating to call the external billing company. read more

We did everything Dr. Shapiro suggested and even did the whole 6 wks of physical therapy. My daughter was still in pain after that so they dismissed us as a patient and referred us to pain management. My daughter is 13 yrs old and suffers from back pain everyday. We don't want to cover up the problem which is what pain management will do. We want to fix the problem. read more

They are arrogant, condescending, unsupportive and on top of all that they misdiagnosed my son's injury and when I questioned their diagnose they blamed him for getting another injury and not telling anyone about it. I saw Shapiro for years and he never once offered a solution to my god-awful and extremely rare congenital condition. I always got the "Well we can't fix you, but can tell you exactly what's wrong with you" treatment. It wasn't until I started to see other doctors and get second opinions that I started to get treatments to help alleviate my plethora of symptoms. He also has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I've ever seen. I was visiting him with my parents once and he casually drops "Well the way your spine is growing, you may go paralyzed from the waist down." It never happened, but I recently realized that the reason I avoid doctors like the plague is because this guy legitimately gave me PTSD after that event. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid seeing this man for medical care at all costs. read more

Our appointment was originally set for 2:45pm...after patiently waiting for 45 minutes, I got frustraded and asked how much longer until my son would be seen. The receptionist advised it would be shortly that there was only one Doctor on duty. Ridiculous, the lobby was full of patients. 15 minutes after, they finally moved us into another waiting room, where we waited for another 30 minutes. The techs were super friendly, but I guarantee you that had WE been late, they would have charged us and turned us away and rescheduled us. Apparently peoples time is not really important to them. read more

We have seen Dr. Jay Shapiro since my daughter's diagnosis of congenital scoliosis 8 years ago. My family and I can't express enough our gratitude for Dr. Shapiro's knowledge, expertise, and professionalism as he has cared for our daughter over the years. This January, Dr. Shapiro performed surgery on my daughter to correct her scoliosis and we are so pleased. Dr. Shapiro and his staff (Stephanie rocks!!!) kept us well informed of the ENTIRE process and most importantly, kept my daughter calm and INVOLVED in the entire experience. If your family is in need of a physician to care for your child with scoliosis, there is no other doctor/practice that I would recommend.....if there were more than 5 stars in this rating, they would have them! read more

One of my children has a bone condition that has required numerous surgeries over the years. Dr. Shapiro has overseen his treatment and done numerous surgeries on my son's legs. When we've had emergencies, we've seen the other doctors and when my daughter broke her hand, we visited them then as well. The offices are fine and the staff polite, but what's most important is the doctors- and they are unparalleled. They are extremely competent and capable. Doctor Shapiro, in particular, is the best. read more

Dr. Sargent performed surgery on two of my children this past March/April, one for an OCD with loose body knee repair, the other an ACL reconstruction. I am happy to say both kids have been pain free and progressing well. There have been busy days at CTPO where I have had to wait, but I wouldn't trade wait times for how well both my children are doing. Dr. Sargent has been great at taking the time to explain everything along the way. Once the initial pain from surgery subsided, it's been smooth sailing. My kids are jogging and starting to jump now, and all pain free! I would highly recommend Dr. Sargent. If you schedule out therapy well ahead of time, it's easy to get the appointment times you need. My kids have been rehabbing with Brian Kratz at the Westlake location, and I couldn't be more pleased with how far they've come. read more
