Worst person ever! I had several visits with Dr. Shrine John over the course of a couple of months getting some customs orthotics / insoles made. He is an extremely rude person. Everything that I said or suggested about myself, my own subjective experience, was ridiculed by him in an extremely contentious way. Definitely comes across as the predatory type that will seize upon a situation or vulnerable person to make himself feel better. At one point, he was so overly involved with our exchange and not with, you know, his job, he was going to put the lift for my insoles on the wrong foot! I had to remind him that it belonged on the left and not the right as he was writing it down on the order form. I definitely would not recommend giving any business to him at all. As an experienced RN I had the pleasure of working with several podiatrists and selected only the best to operate on my fractured sesamoid. I had appreciated how Dr. John interacted with his patients and he certainly treated me no differently. After my surgery, Dr. John was there every step of the way and provided realistic expectations for my recovery. While trying to shower with my post-surgical dressing, I accidentally got it wet and had to have an emergency visit for a dressing change - Dr. John got me all bandaged up in no time and I was on the road to recovery. Very happy with Dr. Shine John, I've been through multiple procedures with him from complex surgery, ruptured Achilles, to simple toenail removal. I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else for care. I specifically wanted to provide feedback on how I feel the treatment is completely individualized to my needs as a patient. If you've suffered from plantar fasciitis, this recommendation is for you. I've had three bouts totaling about 7 years. I think I've been to 6-7 podiatrists in Austin during that time. I've tried everything but surgery. Every gadget, every stretch, every orthotic, every treatment... This time, my internet research recently led me to try shockwave therapy (EPAT), and I found Dr. Shine John at Capital Foot & Ankle. I was skeptical but hopeful. I did 4 weekly 5-minute treatments. In my non-doctor terms, he applies intense shock waves to your foot, which breaks up the scar tissue and sends a message to your body to heal itself. (I will say that it does hurt, but it is nothing compared to the ongoing pain of plantar. Just put on headphones and breathe.) This week, I went to my 6-week followup, and I'm so happy to say it worked! I thought Dr. John was phenomenal at explaining things and giving data to back things up (my favorites were that this has worked on approximately 95-97% of his patients with heel pain, and he has had to repeat this treatment on 0 patients). I also got Hoka Graviata sneakers and am wearing them as much as possible, and I'm ordering new orthotics from Dr. John, which evidently are more supportive when you're moving than my current ones. Last thought: In my experience, providers recommend the treatment they have. Yes, it may be because they originally felt it worked, but the science doesn't always back it up. Dr. John feels that the science backs up EPAT, and my experience supports this. It isn't covered by insurance, which in my opinion is because it's a non-invasive alternative to surgery, which people are much less willing to get, and therefore it's covered. Again, this is just my opinion (but I think I'm right). If you've tried "everything" or don't want to keep trying things that don't work, give EPAT with Dr. John a try. Amazing service. He is very thorough when explaining ALL options. I ended up having a ganglion cyst removed from the top of my foot and the surgery went perfect! I was really impressed with Dr. John and his entire demeanor. I am very picky when it comes to my care as I've had some displeasing Providers in the past who I felt didn't have my best interest in mind. - check in was very easy and done through an IPad - if you've filled out your paperwork through ZocDoc, not all of the documents go through so you have to fill out more documents in office - the clinic is small but cute and the bathrooms are nice - the MA's who check you in are friendly including the one's who put you in a room and grab your history - the room where they take X-Ray's is very small and crowded - I did not have to wait that long to see Dr. John I truly felt like Dr. John had my best interest in mind and here is why: - he had a nice greeting and made you feel comfortable - he goes over your history with you before even examining you - he is very thorough and honest - he went over all of my treatment options and was honest on which ones are painful - he asked me what treatment option I wanted to do versus telling me which one he is going to do or wants me to do - he is very patient when listening to your questions and gives you honest answers - he does not rush you like most doctors do, he makes you feel like you are his top priority - he goes over the plan of action with you - at the very end of the appointment he asked if I had any questions for him that he hadn't answered yet Overall it was a great experience. I had foot surgery in August. Dr. Shine John at Capital Foot and Ankle was incredible! He explains everything in detail and in a way that you can understand. He left no question unanswered. I had two distinct experiences with Dr. Shine John. The first was treatment of my Plantar Fasciitis that had plagued me for years, ruined many vacations and for which I had tried EVERYTHING including steroid shots. Through the use of EPAT Dr. John "cured" my PF and so far it has never returned. I also underwent a surgery with Dr. John to remove bone tissue on the top of my foot. He was available to answer my questions and concerns prior to and after the surgery. He is straightforward and wry with a dry wit which I like but I can see how others might perceive as snarky. I've never found him to be anything but extremely professional and extremely efficacious. I have recommended him to so many people. When I had the EPAT treatment it was not covered by insurance but was THE BEST money I ever spent. I hike for hours in Colorado now with zero foot pain (just regular soreness) and I have Dr. Shine John to thank for that. read more

I highly recommend Dr. John. When I moved to Austin I was in need of a podiatrist. Well I fell into the right hands. He has improved my foot and lessened my pain over the years. I have been getting PRP injections from him which have changed my life, but can be painful for me to get. He recently recommended VIAFLOW. It wasn't painful at all. Today I had the final check-up on my right foot after bunion surgery performed by Dr. Shine John in October of 2019. My foot has healed up very well as evidence by the final X-rays, and I am able to walk again for long periods of time without any pain. I was impressed with Dr. John's knowledge and competence in performing this type of surgery. Additionally, while I was being prepped for surgery, the assisting medical staff frequently commented how much they enjoyed working with Dr. John which says a lot about his character. Dr. Shine John is an excellent Podiatrist and I would highly recommend him. I had a total of 4 metatarsal fractures on my third and fourth bones. I originally went to a medical clinic, thinking I had a sprain or possible break. Upon Xray, the clinic realized I had multiple fractures. They referred me to Dr. John and he was able to work me into his schedule and see me immediately, due to my tight time line. I was flying out the next day on an important business trip. Dr. John and his wonderful nurse, Lorraine, made sure I had all the approrpiate x-rays, CT scans, lab work, the hospital appointment for future surgery, prescriptions, foot padding, boot, crutches, etc. all within hours. They accomodated my travel schedule and advised me how to fly with a broken foot-never judged-just gave me very sound medical advise and sincere caution. Upon my return, I was operated on within the week and became the proud new owner of 3 titanium plates and 9 pins. Dr. John took meticulous care during surgery and what was to be a 2 hour surgery, resulted in over 4 hours of surgery. He has incredible attention to detail while having a great personality and outstanding patient care. His entire staff is efficient and friendly. I have never had to wait for an appointment. While it appears his collegue, Dr. Hurst has received some negative reviews on Yelp for wait time, I have always had a very positive experience and all of my appointments have been on time with Dr. John. I am now in my 5th week of recovery and should be walking within 3 weeks and I am healing right on track. I might add I took another flight after the surgery, all the way to Australia, and once again, Dr. John and his staff were incredibly accomodating, making sure I had extra wrapping around the foot, plenty of anti-inflammatories, ice packs, and antibiotics on hand just in case. Very accomodating! Overall, I have had minimal pain and good recovery time. I implicity trust Dr. John. Dr Shine John took on a compound problem with my right foot and the surgery went great. My large toe has better than expected mobility and the bunion is gone. I recovered on the schedule he prescribed. I appreciated his honestly on outcomes and he set my expectation for recovery time very realistically. Hi. I took my son to see Dr. Shine John last week for some foot pain. I don't know why it says he is in Cedar Park. Maybe he has two offices. We went to the Westlake office. He is an amazing doctor. I liked that he spoke to my child, rather than just letting the parent lead the conversation. He spent a ton of time with us and never gave us the impression that he wanted to rush us to get to his next patient. I honestly felt like he didn't have a concern in the world, except for us. When he walked into the room, he had already familiarized himself with our chart and with the comments we made to the nurse practitioner. I hate when you fill out all those forms, share all of the information with a nurse and then you have to recount everything because no one has told the doctor anything. My only hestitation in writing the review is that his office will get so filled up with patients that it will be harder to get an appointment. Having two very active, athletic boys probably guarantees that I will be back. read more

I was experiencing intense pain originating in the ball of my foot and went to see Dr. John in October 2016. After x-rays and an MRI, he performed an osteotomy to shorten my 2nd metatarsal, and he also repaired torn ligaments and tendons. He pretty much rebuilt the middle of my foot that I had damaged. Prior to surgery, Dr. John carefully and patiently explained the procedure and the recovery process. He never rushed through a consultation or appointment, and he made me feel that he had all the time in the world to answer my questions and assuage my concerns. The recovery from surgery was no picnic, but Dr. John was always patient, caring, and thorough, and he always encouraged me to call with any questions or concerns.
