Do NOT go to this guy! Biggest mistake of my life. He flat-out lied to me about the seriousness of my injury. I went to see him for pain and limited movement in my left shoulder. Although he was not friendly and I could tell he did not give a crap about me outside of my injury, I was impressed with his years of experience and his practice seemed well run, so I trusted him. While reviewing my MRI images, he told me I had a bad rotator cuff tear. He later told my wife and me, minutes before surgery, that I had a 75% rotator cuff tear. After the surgery, I found the MRI written summary, and the first sentence read, "No rotator cuff tear." The report repeated this 2 more times in the following paragraphs. I copied and pasted the MRI results into ChatGPT and asked whether surgery was the best option. It said no, and that surgery should be the last option. It recommended a steroid shot for the pain, rest, and 6 weeks of P. T. Dr. Moore never mentioned anything about resting it and waiting to see if it gets better. He said surgery was the only option. This was on a Friday. I was in a lot of pain, so I agreed to surgery the following Tuesday, which, of course, was open in his schedule. I wish so badly I had gone for a second opinion. He never said anything about how horrific rotator cuff surgery is, how painful the first 3 months are, or how it takes a year to fully recover. Nothing of the sort. He gave me zero warning about what I was getting myself into. I just thought I would be back to normal in a few months. He was a jerk at each of my two follow-up visits. I'm more than 4 months post op now and my shoulder still sits an inch higher up than my right. It looks awful and even with months of PT, home stretching, and strength training, it is still a mess and still causes pain. He is cocky and has a big ego. Just look at the reviews. Although somehow, he has some 5-star reviews, his last 5-star was over 7 years ago. All the rest are 1-star. read more

Dr. Moore evaluated my knee and actually caused more pain than I had. The office manger failed to give me correct information about my insurance and I ended up paying for procedures that I did not want nor would have consented to if I knew the insurance would not cover their services. hind sight is 20/20. you don't know what you don't know. I didn't care if he had bedside manners or not. dr. Moore performed complete knee replacement on my right knee. I started having problems immediately. I went in to have it checked because my ankle and my foot were not in the same direction as my left. Dr. Moore was too busy out on the hunting trip do you even pay any attention to it. He said his assistant and he said it was neuropathy. I have had trouble with us ever since my right leg is about 3/4 of an inch shorter than my left my foot ankles to the right. Other orthopedic surgeons said that he didn't put my leg on straight . I know it's after the fact but I needed to get this off my chest. I have suffered with it for 10 years.. I would not recommend him to anyone for anything he is too full of himself. read more

Approximately 10 years ago I needed Hip Replacement surgery I had just turned 50, was an avid runner, and very fit. Dr. Moore told me I had necrosis of the left hip joint. I had the surgery and within a week knew that something was wrong, my new hip (left side) had made my left leg mucth longer than the right. I went in repeatedly that first year with this complaint and Dr. Moore or his assistant would placate me measure and say no your legs are the same length. Speed up time, my back is now curved and I cannot run. I have had several orthopedic specialists look at my leg length and they tell me I have a left leg that is 3/4 of an inch longer than the right. Dr. Moore has been my Husband's & my Doctor of Orthopedics since the late 1990's. He Replaced both of my (Coach) husband's knees & several other Coach's knees, hips etc. at Travis HS in Austin where he Coached & I taught. He also went on to replace both of my knees & came back from Italy early to help me when I developed a problem! He later replaced my right Shoulder. We think Frosty can all but "walk on water"!!! I became Dr Moore's patient way back in the 1990's after suffering a life-changing back & leg injury. Face with a possible amputation I went to see him on a recommendation from a friend. Dr Moore was the only Dr to identified the problem and he was able to provided much needed care without surgery, which was what other Drs were recommended. I am still able run & cycle and live a pretty normal life. Dr Moore has always been a straight shooter with me over the years and so far he has never failed me, I trust him. read more

He may look gruff or a little ruff around the edges but he is a gentle giant. He's a straight shooter and doesn't sugar coat which is what I prefer in my doctors. I had an ACL give way after the first one in over 20 years in 2008. His bedside manner both inside the clinic and the hospital was a 10!!!! Having been referred by a really good friend, I would not have thought that he was this good. I went to Dr. Moore four years ago, in my early 40s, for knee pain. As a moderate runner, 3 miles about 4 times a week, I naively assumed laser surgery would cure my problem which was moderate knee pain after I ran. Without discussion of other options or any research, Dr. Moore recommended laser surgery to cut part of my lliotibial band. He said this is very common. He was available for surgery in a relatively short period of time(should have been a warning to me) as I now know the best orthopedists in Austin are booked many months in advance. I had the surgery, with no discussion from him of the painful recuperation. It was the worst decision ever! After years of physical therapy, which I SHOULD have been informed about prior to surgery, my knee is worse than it was prior to surgery. I can no longer run and since have talked to several other people who had similarly horrible experiences with Frosty Moore. I write this review not to disparage him, but as a warning to others to proceed very cautiously, as a poor surgery choice can have a lifetime of unfortunate consequences. read more

I have had two procedures over the years with Dr. Moore, and it looks like a third might be in my future. Back in 1995, I think, I suffered a bad labral tear. I went to another surgeon in Austin who was highly regarded (sure hope he's retired by now). Scope was brand new at that time but it was a bad injury so he prepared me. He said I wouldn't be able to lift anything heavy for a while... that's about it. I woke up and I had been cut to the core. In the hospital for 3 days, then in a body bound sling for 12 weeks. Shoulder healed incorrectly, and to this day I live with chronic inflammation and pain in my neck and shoulders. It took me probably 4 years to get about 25% usage back. Couldn't hold an ink pen, even. had to almost learn to write all over again and still dont have the ability to do it for long. After about 6 years of this, in 2001, Dr. Moore was the ONLY doctor in this city willing to go against this other doctor to correct a worker's comp injury. He went in there and cleaned up all that mess the other doctor failed to fix. I have about 90% of my use back thanks to him. A few years later, he did my other shoulder, scope only thank goodness.. cleaned it right up, fit as a fiddle. I will say the ONLY thing that I wish they would improve on is the bedside manner. I'm used to it now, but in the beginning, I needed someone to hold my hand and tell me every little detail.. call me and check on me.. treat me like I'm your child. They don't do much of that, but if you understand that going in, you're all good. Not sure if Jan is still with him at his new practice, but she's pretty badass also. read more

Shoulder surgery is the worst injury possible to recover from and I injured both of my shoulders in 2012 and had Dr. Moore perform both surgeries.. It was a long haul to completely recover, but Dr. Moore's staff was very sympathetic of the pain and hardship that accompanies shoulder surgery and were a very positive element in my complete recovery. Surgery is never fun, but Dr. Moore and his staff are I place that I would recommend if you require surgery. His PA's and staff are knowledgeable, caring and provide a positive catalyst to recovery. Last, the Physical Therapist that he recommended to me was excellent too. read more

I do not recommend him. He does not believe in physical therapy after surgery and pushes stem cell therapy. He went on to tell me how he has given stem cell therapy to some famous singers on the side. Totally unethical, in my opinion. I received a refund in the mail. Bad beside manner, very unhelpful and only got to see him he first time and they made me see his PA every time afterwards even though I was paying the extra co-pay to see a specialist. I kept asking if I was going to see him again and they said no is PA can help you. Mind you my first appointment the PA didn't realize on my x-ray that I had a bone fracture. She said looks okay and then he came in and said - yep looks like there's a fracture.I would not recommend this place to my friends or family. I switched doctor's mid-way through my recovery because I'd actually like to be seen by a doctor since I'm paying. read more

Dr. Moore and his entire staff are awesome!! Christine is the best PA. I had seen several doctors about knee pain--had several scope procedures done with no luck. Saw Dr. Moore and had knee replacement in June 2014. in less then 4 months I was walking, dancing and climbing stairs without a limp. THANK YOU !!!! In December of 2014 ( 6 months later) I returned to Dr. Moore for my shoulder and he replaced it. Today, April 2015 ( 4 months later) i have almost 90% use of my right shoulder. THANK YOU Doc!!!! Now that enough time has passed and my daughter no longer feels humiliated by this guy and his staff I'll summarize the review that was posted a couple years ago. In the fewest of words my daughter was declining very quickly due to the pain she was in and for a multitude of reasons was not getting any where with this practice. I, her mother, posted on yelp my frustration and fear that was the result of not being able to get into testing that was required and much more. This physicians office's response was to humiliate my daughter and refusing to treat her until I took down my post. My daughter is very sweet and passive which made her a perfect target for both lackadaisical treatment and chastising for unappreciated feed back, non of which was her doing. At this point we wouldn't go to anyone in that practice but have since found wonderful care and doctors with staff that are prompt, effective and truly healers. So, all in all, mom here is thankful that this guy is a rearend which afforded us the opportunity to go elsewhere. read more

This is going to be a really quick summary of a physician that didn't like the fact that the parent of a patient left a truthful review about the lack of premium healthcare she received in the office of Dr. Frosty. When the young lady returned (which is beyond me, since he is of no help whatsoever) he confronted the daughter and humiliated her about the review that was posted rather than even trying to resolve the problem internally. He told the patient that he would not see her again until the Yelp post was removed. The nurses, office employees etc expressed their anger. So, thank you Frosted, she since has found true help from a physician that cares about the patient. She also refused to see any of the other doctors at that locale as well, so kudos to you for smearing the rep and community view of the the whole Westlake Orthopedic Spine and Sport. I couldn't sleep at night because my right shoulder and arm were in such pain. A friend recommended Dr. Moore at Westlake Spine and Sports. I called for an appointment and was able to see the doctor same week. When I arrived the office was busy with several patients in the waiting room. I don't recall any issues with the front desk like I am reading in the other reviews here. I guess if its not memorable how bad could it have been. I saw the doctor in a reasonable amount of time and found him to be personable and pleasant. I now saw why they called him "Frosty" due to his white hair and mustache. He was an older gentleman with a good bedside manner. He checked my range of motion on my right arm and shoulder and did a few exercises to check my strength by having me move my right arm against pressure he was applying. After asking me about my pain levels and checking my range of motion he offer several paths forward. One was medication, one was cortisone, and finally surgery. I elected the cortisone injection into my shoulder. I had some relief for weeks but the pain was not completely abated. I returned to see Dr. Moore after several weeks for a follow up and he and I agreed to do orthoscopic surgery to clean up the shoulder internally. The following week I was scheduled for surgery at The Hospital at Westlake which by the way is a top notch facility. I saw several nurses and a Physician's assistant , a anesthetist and finally Dr. Moore came in to ask if I was ready and had any questions. The surgery went well and recovery was challenging but uneventful. I returned for a follow up and the doctor showed me pictures of my shoulder before and after he cleaned up the internals. Today my shoulder is pain free and I can sleep again. I am able to play golf and all of the other sports I once enjoyed before the shoulder problems. I recommend Dr. Moore and the experience I had at this practice. read more
