I Did not want to get them any stars but required to post my review. We asked for an estimate for a faulty bulb light and broken windshield wiper pump. They took all day, we called after 5 and they said, they told us the cost to diagnose was $79.00 and gave us an estimate for the cost to repair. We told them we would take it someplace else. The guy who we spoke to said the other tech was wrong and the cost to diagnose was $100.00. We paid the $100, new price and driving home we noticed the Left turn signal is now not working. read more

Recently I tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. When I was young, I'd work on my own car, but cars have gotten more complex, and Googling what I needed to do to just replace the battery, several things needed to be reset. I had recharged my battery to get my car started, called the garage for an appointment, and I drove it in. My car was fixed quickly, and all of the warning signals were cleared. In response to Christine A's recent experience, I had to post this one. Central Garage is the only State Inspection place in Drippin proper. I shot in the other morning with Rooster in arms for my inspection. It took a bit longer than expected as the customer ahead of me had some problems. Inspection guy - Your 250,000 mile 1987 Nissan Hard Body has a license plate light out. I can't fix it as the bulb housing has rusted beyond repair. I'll call the parts house and weee'll git you another one.. 30 Minutes later - DONE My car - 12 minutes later...That'll be $14.50. $14.50.....Eat that Travis County. HEHE....HAHA. Came in to get an inspection and parked in front of the inspection deck. No one came out to talk to me. The inspection guy just came in behind me honking telling me to get out of the way. We went into Central Garage for a U-Joint that needed to be replaced and went out with $2100.00 in repairs which included an oil seal replacement. Literally 44 miles down the road the evening we picked it up, a rod started knocking and when my husband (a mechanic) checked the oil, there was NO OIL on the dipstick at all. There were no oil leaks apparent as well and the seal replacement looked perfect. They simply forgot to put oil back into it when they replaced the oil seal. They took zero responsibility for the mistake and even said they had cameras to prove their mechanic put oil in it, but when we asked to see the camera footage, they yelled and screamed at us asking us to leave immediately. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS SHOP. THEY ARE NOT HONEST AND COMPLETED LIED ABOUT THEIR MISTAKE which cost us the cost of the vehicle (motor fried from no oil) and $2100.00 in auto repairs. I'm an older lady who just got out of the hospital & I needed road service for a flat tire. The vendor who sold me the tire did not have a person available to do this. I called Central Garage, and they don't do tire repairs, but sent out a young man to air it up so I could get it to the tire shop AT NO CHARGE. I have been a customer of Central Garage since moving to Dripping 6 years ago. I started going when reviews were positive at a level that was worth exploring. I know vehicles and have been working on my own vehicles almost 50 years, but work in partnership with them when I need their expertise those times the job exceeds my knowledge, tools, or time. 1. About five years ago I thought the air conditioner wasn't cooling properly. After Danny looked it over, it was determined it was operating properly. I was wisely counseled the newer air conditioning systems have so little coolant that just to check the level would create the need to evacuate and re-charge the system. It would be at a cost far above any possible benefit. To this day, the unit keeps the car very cool. 2. Recently I needed my four spark plugs removed and replaced with new ones. I was successful doing the first two. However, the area where the other two plugs were located was so tight that I was unsuccessful accomplishing the task after several days of trying. I took the auto in early in the day, which is my wife's work car, and upon returning close to closing time, the car was not yet worked on. I told Kevin I needed it back, so took the keys. I tried again another time when I could leave it for a full day again. This time they were able to accomplish the task, and at a fair price. I also asked them on that visit to check the condition of the original brake pads to see if it was time to replace them. They were honest telling me they did not need to be replaced and were good for nearly another year, based on current miles being driven annually, before needing replacement. 3. They handled an unusual situation where both front should and lap belt assemblies had to be replaced due to corroding sensors that no longer properly communicated with the safety systems. It was expensive, but the OEM parts took several weeks to arrive. The shop's total cost was less than what the dealer would have charged. 4. When a tire needed to be repaired, I called them. They recommended another area business since tire repair was not something they did. The referred business did a great job. Now I have two great places to go. I let them know I appreciated the referral. They are an asset to Dripping Springs and the surrounding area. I highly recommend them. read more

I am so impressed by this place! I needed my brakes done and was quoted an insane price by another place. Kevin at Central Garage was very helpful and didn't overcharge me. He didn't try to replace parts that didn't need to be replaced right now and was extremely reasonable. They got me in quickly and made sure I was able to have my car back for work the next day. They don't even deserve one star. Very unprofessional....first part of my conversation, the guy put down other shops in town. He said they would be flexible with my schedule to get there as I work over an hour away, but had an attitude about it when I arrived. That was bad enough, but then wanted to charge me a hundred dollars for an oil change (full synthetic) - $30 more than other places I have called. I have never experienced such negative customer service at an automotive place. Won't get my business. Editing as a response to your response...No you didn't name any other shops, but when I asked for a recommendation since your oil tech leaves at 5 your comment was you couldn't recommend any place because you always have to fix their stuff. Yes, I did call the same day and YOU offered to keep your oil tech on until I got there I didn't ask you to. Then you said he had something to do for his mother and couldn't stay as he is a high school kid, but you had someone else that could to do it. When I asked the price you never quoted the exact figure you said a regular oil change was $48 and full synthetic was "about double that." I do not see any place you are claiming responsibility for being wrong on any negative posts including mine. Pride is not good customer service either. You still won't get my business. I'm done. Vehicle Inspector Russell screwed up my Inspection, putting incorrect VIN number into state system. County office turned me away when I attempted to get my annual registration. Returned to Central Garage and Russell insisted I had driven a different car in!! No apology, just an insult for a customer. He-inspected the same car, fixed the VIN in the system but very rudely took no responsibility for mistake. Owner of shop took no interest while irritable employee insults a customer. Other guys in shop polite and helpful but one guy's rudeness and inept work is one too many. Have other repair work needed but will not use this shop again. Take note, Owner. read more

Like literally - only of your car is on fire and breaks down RIGHT IN FRONT of the garage. If you do find yourself here - make it crystal clear that you're not paying a DIME unless it's explained in advance - and you sign an estimate FIRST. If not - you will find yourself waiting around for hours that you are paying time and labor for and much larger bill than you want when you try to escape with your vehicle. read more

When my daughter went in for an oil change, the owner (old guy) was extremely rude and condescending to her. I just let it go and then took my other daughters car in and went back to pick it up. From past experiences with Central Garage trying to get an inspection, and the rude response from the guy at the desk, I've avoided them. However, after my wife's FJ Cruiser had a red battery light on the dash, and me about to go out of town for a few days, I called them to diagnose her car since they were only a few blocks from where she works. They diagnosed the issue as a bad alternator, at a whopping charge of almost $700 to replace it and the belt-I was in a tight spot, so I agreed to the cost. It took until the next day to repair it, and after my wife had the car a couple of days, she noticed it was making a loud "ticking" noise, that it had never made before. I did a check to see if I could tell what was making the noise, and noticed that the serpentine belt had a noticeable bump on the outside of it that I could feel when the car was at idle. When we called them and then dropped it off with them, the next thing they told us was that it had a bad bearing on one of the idler pullies. I told them I didn't believe that was the issue, that it was the belt, but by that time they had already had the old pully off, awaiting a replacement. I told them I wanted the old pully when my wife picked up the vehicle. Another almost $170 later, my wife comes home, I just checked the old pully and there is NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. They are the worst. Not honest, charged over $370 for a REBUILT alternator that I priced at around $135 online. Almost $300 for about 1 1/2 hours of labor. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

Real story, I took my truck to the dealership for repair and waited 2 full days before they even could diagnose the issue and they quoted me an astronomical figure for the repairs. I decided to take my truck to central garage for a second opinion and oh boy am I glad that I did! Not only did Danny and Kevin take care of me, they treated me with kindness, honesty and respect. Told me exactly what they needed to do on the repairs and had my truck out the very next day. The repair cost was 1/3 of what I was quoted at the dealership. It really amuses me to see people say this place is overpriced and to go to L&L - the company that tried to charge me $350 for an alignment because their tech takes 4+ hours to align a car - even after being quoted a price of $89.99. You'll never get that kind of horrible service at Central Garage. The shop ain't neat & pretty and their staff aren't running around in matching uniforms or anything, granted. But that's all just B.S. show anyway. What really matters is this - these guys know automobiles. Inside & out, front to back, top to bottom. They're always honest about what to expect both in time and money. They aren't going to give you a half-assed fix with inferior parts that you're going to have to do again in a couple years. It's going to be done and one right or they simply won't do it. They're friendly, affable, and honest to a fault. I do most of my own maintenance myself including making performance upgrades on my own cars. I know what I'm doing under the hood, and I can tell that when a job is too big for me or I don't have the time to invest then this is where I go. They're the mechanic's mechanic. They charged me $45.00 to change my oil when I brought my own oil and filter. They use to charge $9.00 but that went out the door with a service writer change over a year ago. In May 2012 I was having trouble with my air conditioning and put off getting it fixed for several weeks b/c I feared the worst. A few fairly knowledgeable friends and family were convinced I probably needed a new compressor which would have cost me approx $1000.00. I went to Central Garage on a whim (they are near where I work) hoping for the best but expecting very bad news. The folks I dealt with were easy to talk to, checked it out within the estimated time and best of all discovered that my problem was not the compressor but a relay switch which they then replaced at a very reasonable rate. My air has been working great since and they did not take advantage of a situation in which they easily could have. I will be going back when other future repairs are needed read more

Took my well maintained daily driver 04 Toyota 4 runner in after it overheated. Also had warning lights on. Needed a valve cover gasket replaced as well. Took it in early Friday and felt really comfortable with the good ol boy atmosphere. We're in dripping after all. Waited 6 hours for a call to say vehicle was done. Called and lo and behold they forgot to call me. Never mind I need my car for work. Got there, warning lights still on. Coughed on start up. Told them about lights on they spent an hour pretending like this was a new request and figuring out what was wrong. The mechanics raced it out of the lot in a effort to get the lights off 5 times. Finally got them off. Hours later I was stranded with a car that would not start. Had it towed back to them. On Sunday. Had to call them at 8:30 to find out what was going on. They said they'd call me back - no call Called again at 12 said they'd call me back No call showed up and they hand me the phone - owner who was at lunch and had him tell me the motor had a blown head gasket. Aka you engine is toast and we can fix it for you. Bottom line - never got an apology also requested my 678.00 back for the "repair" After sitting down with owner he decides 400.00 is enough I tell him it's not and in reality they owe me an engine. Told him a full refund would stop me writing this and writing the full version for the BBB. Bad call imho. Oh yea the half empty bottle of vodka on the file cab in the owners office also prob no prob. Do not go to central garage. read more

Very Impressed! These guys went ABOVE and BEYOND in customer service! At around 7pm, I discovered a valve stem was leaking causing my tire to go flat. I knew they were closed and with no other option, opted to drive it to Central Garage and leave my jeep overnight. Kevin happened to still be there after hours. He said that although they don't fix tires, I could leave my jeep at his shop and he would drive it down the road to another place in the morning to get it fixed and call me when it was ready. I had a great experience at Central Garage. The problem with my Honda CRV was quickly found, fixed and the cost was lower than anticipated. I am a middle aged woman with a 12 year old car. There were probably a dozen things wrong with my car but the folks only took care of a rattle that had been bothering me for weeks as I asked. They were not thieves as an earlier person stated...rather hard working honest and kind. I would go back to central garage next time I have a problem.
