Even if you're not looking for Quaker publications, but are looking for texts on spiritual matters this bookstore would be an excellent resource for you.

They're especially strong in children's picture books and in books relating to Quakerism (the store is part of Pendle Hill, a Quaker retreat and study center). The books are arranged in thoughtful categories-- peace and social justice, writing, lives in transition, etc. The proprietor is friendly and full of suggestions. Definitely a good place to find a holiday gift for book-lovers.

If you pull in, you do end up backing onto a busy road so leave with caution. As I said, they have a great selection. There are four rooms of boons, each section is clearly labeled and occasional thematic decor. There are also occasional benches so you can sit and debate which books you want to "adopt". They're used, but gently and each has a price lower then the face value written inside. They also have the largest selection of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys I've ever seen. Its all very impressive.

It's not slick like a Half-priced Books location, and it is packed with treasure. Mostly decent prices for 2024 and although I would say the science fiction section is either small or hard to find because it's mixed in with a lot of fantasy, it does have one and I bought some things I'm really happy about finding. I even found something from my to-read list that I didn't think I was going to be able to. I also found a copy of an Anthony Trollope book I've wanted to read for a long time, but couldn't find in the libraries I've tried. My husband went straight for the Christmas section and added some really lovely things to our collection. There's no place to sit, but the very nice person working there (the owner, I think) allowed me to rest my bad back in one of her desk chairs. I wish I had known about this place when I had more people to buy books for, but I'm thrilled to have found it now and I can't wait to go back. Next time, I will treat my best friend to a visit here.

I stopped by recently to pick up some gift cards for holiday presents & walked out with a Pitman coffee mug, local honey and a pack of cards as well. The book clubs are awesome and have truly provided a strong sense of community and comfort. Staff picks are always great to see and knowing that the staff care about the store and read alongside you, is a cool fact! Which is what led me here. On the phone the customer service was great, once in person (and twice at that) not much at all. There doesn't seem to be much black authors and influences in this bookstore- aside from the very few that you can see displayed at the front window. The bookstore is organized well, but the space is very small- seems a lot was put into the space and as soon as a few people start coming in, it can and will immediately feel crowded. This specific small town and area is one I keep trying to force myself to love. It looks nice to the eyes, but the area falls short each and every time. I purchased two books from this store (one that needed to be ordered) hence why I was there twice. I didn't wanna do it, but I desperately wanted the book and enjoy my money going towards a local, small owned shop. Won't be happening again. I thought the second time would be a charm. Guess I was focused on getting to donuts, but I'm glad I finally noticed it and now I stop in whenever I'm in the area. It's a smallish space, but well organized with a wide selection of genres. It's primarily books, but they also have DVDs and a small CD section. There are a few stepstools scattered around to help you reach the items on the higher shelves which I appreciate as a not super tall person. I find the CD section difficult to shop though, as it's on lower shelves and even with my glasses on it's tricky to read the small type on the cases near the floor. The employees are friendly and polite and always happy to help if you're looking for a specific title. I've only ever purchased here, but they also take items for trade-in, although you need to make an appointment for that. The prices are generally in line with other used bookstores in the area. Definitely sign up for their e-mail list, as they frequently send out discount codes. Unlike some used bookstores I frequent, I don't always leave here with a find, but I often come across a book on my TBR list at a good price.
