This business does not support the West Philly community and operates unethically…read more The owner has been repeatedly seen taking large quantities of books from the neighborhood's free little libraries--those small, birdhouse-shaped boxes meant to provide free access to reading materials for anyone in the community. These libraries exist to serve those who can't afford to buy books, especially children and families. Instead of respecting that purpose, the owner takes the donated books and resells them for profit. This behavior undermines a valuable community resource and limits access to free literature for people who truly need it. It's disappointing to see a local business act in a way that harms rather than helps the neighborhood it operates in.

I met him immediately upon entering the store, as he was sitting right near the door. His name is Dr. Pickles and he is just as lovely as the shop he calls home. The shop itself is well organized and has so many niche categories to browse and appreciate. As the shop's name suggests, they have ample signage outlining the rules and guidelines for trading with them. As a bonus, the shop (and Dr. Pickles!) are active on Instagram sharing the latest that's up with the shop. I am absolutely planning on returning to this shop during my next trip to Philadelphia.

This is a used bookstore with proceeds going towards the library. It has an amazing selection of…read morebooks. The books are in sections like a traditional bookstore. The prices are very inexpensive. The sales person was very nice. They greeted at me as soon as I walked in. They were also knowledgeable about the books. The store looks small from the outside, but it is a labyrinth inside that goes to the back of the building.

The staff here is fabulous and it gives off the best vibes. You could spend an hour looking through all of the different categories and getting lost in the pages. I appreciate the strange variety and the fact that books range from old to ancient to almost brand new. Always something to discover. The cats are an added bonus and the kind staff the cherry on top. I grabbed a book that had been on my "to read" list for the longest time and am so grateful this gem of an institution exists. Add it to your museum district itinerary with visitors or just go when you need a friend in cat or book form.

Parking was a nightmare, but it was worth it. But the Manayunk neighborhood is adorable! So, they claim they are the "city's first brick-and-mortar romance bookstore." But I did find another that also claims this too! Regardless, I'm ALWAYS going to go to a #romancebookstore! I also happens to walk in during an #authorevent, where Lily Larkspur was signing "Merry Meet Again. Lily said if Hallmark movies were my jam, the.n I'd like her book, so obviously I got it. They did a good job keeping the number of customers inside manageable. While there was still space occupied by other vendors, it was still possible to look around without having to squeeze between people. I was a little underwhelmed by the selection - although I go there around 3pm on a busy day. I was impressed by some of the older items in stock, and that it wasn't just recent horror hits. I'd definitely like to come back at a later date, when I came take more time and have a little more space.

The store has a modest selection in my opinion but enough across different genres that you can probably find something. You know how some used bookstores carry books from the 1900s that makes it pretty hard to find more recent ideas. This place carries pretty recent publications (like within the past 20 years). Pricing was fair (2/3 off retail) given the nice conditions of the books. The cashier was a pleasant lady who was nice and friendly (without being overbearing).
