Experiencing the Ida environment was like visiting an art museum where you could touch the exhibit pieces, buy them if interested, learn about others, and think about how to enjoy, display, read and learn from the written word. And, the colors, the tones, the paint on the walls - add to the vibe. And...then the way that the kind sales guy packaged my books in twine so that I (or my husband did) carried my books as people use to do in the old days, when paper bags were not needed and there was pride in walking out with a stack of your new (or used) books for your reading pleasure. Go go go and open yourself to a new bookstore experience. You will not be disappointed.

One of Philly's favorite book stores…read more While it's a bit overwhelming with tiny aisles, one way signs, and a bit unorganized, its a great spot to wander. If you are looking for something hyper specific, this might not be the spot. There are thousands of books in every category you could imagine. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the resident cat that wanders the shop is even better. Pricing is cheap and there's always some sort of deal going on.

This place is in dire need of a renovation and some TLC…read more Let's not pretend that Red Barn as a chain isn't well known as a place where people go to have to have anonymous sex. For a business that is owned by the Doc Johnson brand of adult toy manufacturer, this location, along with the Berlin store is seedy and has a reputation as such. In an era where sex isn't something to be hidden and ashamed of, this place reeks of shame and secrets. When stores can be brightly lit and accessable to couples and single customers alike and the competition with an online marketplace where you can get anything virtually overnight through Amazon, this place is still firmly planted in the mid 90s. The booth area is just that; an area to cruise with video booths. The theater is dark, like most of these places, and with competition closing in, losing popularity. It's a shame that an adult entertainment center owned by a sex toy manufacturer has such a small selection, but most people who come here aren't looking for toys. This place needs a desperate face lift and change in business practices if it wants to survive in an area where the competition has brightly lit, well stocked show rooms with quality products with a large election and couple friendly atmosphere. Long Live Barnes & Noble!…read more Seriously, bookstores as a whole are becoming increasingly extinct...with so many e-book readers out there, our local book stores are literally disappearing out of thin air. Personally, I've made a vow to never succumb...I will always love the smell, feel and touch of a "real" book in my hands. For me, there's nothing better than turning page after page without a click or a swipe...it's all about the real deal. I love perusing the aisles as I check out the latest from my fav authors, cookbooks, magazines and more as I plot my purchases. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere is happy and relaxed; and you may hear a giggle or two of kids in the back as they're being read one of their favorite stories. As an added bonus there's a B&N Café inside that features a variety of Starbucks coffees and beverages. It's the perfect place to meet up with friends, your book club, or whoever for a cup of joe and some eats!

This is one of the most negative and depressing experiences I have ever had with any bookstore. I…read morepurchased a book I had been searching for for years from them as a first edition book for an agreed-upon price of $850. The book was covered in a rare dust jacket, which, if imperfect, was still in fairly good shape. When I received the book, I found it to be a second edition. However, the second edition of this book had the identical jacket to the first edition, making it still a fairly valuable jacket at least. I indicated to the bookstore that they had sold me a second edition copy as a first edition, while still conceding the value of the jacket, and offered to keep it for a small price adjustment in consideration of the difference in value of the actual book, of which the true first edition was worth perhaps $200, and the second edition, perhaps $75. The company, specifically Heidi, demanded that I send the book back, and would offer no reasonable price adjustment based on having sold the jacket not as described. Meanwhile, I had a "friend" who is a much more seasoned collector than I advising me that I absolutely couldn't spend $850 on a second edition book, particularly one that was misadvertised. I really wanted to keep the book but did not want to be taken advantage of by the misinformation provided, so eventually, I had to return the book. I also provided the company with the background information that my "friend," whom they knew by name as someone active in the book industry, had told me what they were asking for the book was inappropriate and unethical, although as I have said 80% of the value was in the jacket, so I didn't mind paying $650 for the jacket and $100 for the later-edition book. Additionally, no apology was ever issued for misinforming me about the edition of the book. At any rate, as soon as I sent the book back, my "friend" called them up and bought it from them for the $750 I would have gladly paid, and which I had asked them in three separate emails to make me whole by doing. At any rate, the "friend" is no longer my friend, and this bookshop acted unreasonably and unethically and shouldn't be in the business, as far as I can see. The owners belong to ABAA, but they certainly don't abide by their standards of ethics. I have no idea why they commandeered the book back and sold it to my "friend" instead of reaching to me and indicating that they were going to sell it for the amount I had offered to compromise on 3-5 times. I would advise staying away, especially if you are a book buyer at a distance.

If you're a vampire, transgendered travelers stuck in Croatia, a bodyguard for a famous actor, a lonely farmer or a gay artist, there was probably a romance book somewhere in the store written just for you. Very welcoming to everyone and anyone. One downside is that the store had some sort of aromatic diffuser, and it was a little too strong for someone like me who is very sensitive to artificial smells.

I asked an employee where to find romantasy. She blinked twice, muttered something about "over there," and vanished like a ghost in a YA novel. The café? I ordered a cappuccino. What I got was dishwater wearing a foam hat. Also, it took **20 minutes**. There were three baristas, and all of them appeared to be arguing over who was least qualified to use the espresso machine. To top it off, the cashier line was run by a group of sloths on a lunch break. Moral of the story? Support your local indie bookstores. At least there, when you're lost, someone helps you without sighing.

The layout of the Barnes was great. In the center of the store is the cafe with plenty of seating all around, which is needed because this place always seemed to be busy (for a bookstore). I was genuinely comfortable and felt like I could get my work done with little distraction outside of hushed conversation and coffee making in the background. The store itself was very clean and neat. I had no idea Barnes & Noble started selling Vinyl records which, I admittedly don't collect, but was great to see they're trying to adapt to popular culture and stay relevant in an era of iTunes and other digital purchasing platforms. Another standout was the cleanliness of the bathroom and attentiveness of the staff. I always saw someone walking around picking things up, asking if someone needed help and checking the bathrooms. Overall my favorite spot to get some afternoon work done while visiting Moorestown, NJ. Maybe you'll see me in there one day! If so, stop and say hi!
