I've always liked Barnes & Noble, and this location is no exception when it comes to the basics. They sell books, plain and simple, and that's always been the main draw for me. The shelves are well-stocked, the atmosphere is calm, and there's something timeless about being surrounded by rows and rows of stories, knowledge, and ideas. If you're just here for the books, you'll find what you need. But unfortunately, my experience was soured by the in-store café, specifically by one of the bartenders. Every time I've sat down for a coffee or tried to unwind with a book, she steers the conversation toward politics--unprompted and uninvited. I never brought up the subject, and yet she always seems to inject her own views into the interaction, as if she's testing or trying to "correct" me without even knowing my stance. It's uncomfortable, distracting, and frankly, not what I came to a bookstore café for. I don't expect complete silence, but I do expect neutral, professional service when I'm a paying customer. A bookstore should be a refuge from the noise of the outside world, not another place where politics is forced into the mix. Because of that constant negative experience, I've decided I won't be coming back to this location. It's a shame, because Barnes & Noble as a whole is still a great place for books, but this particular café's atmosphere was ruined by the bartender's unnecessary political commentary. read more

This Barnes & Noble in Marlton is very clean, organized, and the staff is friendly. I really appreciate their great selection of gratitude journals! My only recommendation would be to label the different journal sections more clearly. It was a bit hard to figure out where the 'write your own' style books were located. First the fact that you can't use Starbucks gift cards is ridiculous. Staff is incredibly nice but the book arrangements make no sense! Young adult section is mixed in with adult and shelves are nowhere near the children's section even though there are tables with popular YA titles (no wonder they're reading inappropriate romance fiction). The worst is that they have 3 shelves of YA graphic novels-there a so many wonderful books to be read! How can you not love Barnes & Noble? Yes, it's not a small family run store, but it has all your book needs and a relaxing atmosphere as well. The Marlton store in particular is simply awesome. The staff is consistently helpful and polite, it's obvious they enjoy their jobs. The manager Derrick is great. They are my go to spot for hard to find books; they can even get books printed that are no longer in press (in some cases). Shop here with confidence. The two other nearby locations are not as nice. Moorestown has the cafe elevated in the center of the store--so if you're sitting having cup of tea it looks like you're on display (no privacy). Cherry hill is always crowded with very little parking (in the center of a monster shopping complex). I'll stick with the Marlton location with a great staff, easy parking, cool setup and always plenty of room to browse. My only negative still remains the pricing at all locations for anything but books (toys, snacks, art supplies) is very high. read more

I LOVE B&N! I do most of my reading on a Kindle but I do love the feel and smell of books. This location (Marlton) has a nice Starbucks cafe serving coffee and snacks. My typical is to grab a book and a coffee and go find one of the comfy chairs in the back. It's like the library without the need to be quiet. I've had some good conversations with customers who seem to be doing the same as me. B&N is the last survivor of the Amazon-influenced bookstore demise. really poor customer I will not be back... I was a regular at cafe easily spent $200 a month... today asked for a large ice water the "barista" informed they don't give out ice water but there is complimentary water at the condiment counter with 1.5 oz cups available... explaining I had just walked there on a very hot day and asked if I could please have a large plastic cup... answer still no. Keep in mind I also ordered about $12 of other stuff not just asking for cup... I Karen'd up and asked for manager assuming they would recogniz/value my steady business there... I was like hey I come here about daily could I please have a large cup for water... she offered me a 1.5 oz plastic shot glass and said we're trying to sell bottles of water not give it away I know she's seen me there regularly and my mind was blown that my future patronage was worth less than a .03 cup. In today's technology ridden lives I am so happy that people still buy books and magazines. It is for this reason why i love B&N as well as this location for their continuous care for their customers. I have been to this location more than 5 times now and have purchased books, coffee table books, magazines, and coffe from their Starbucks. Overall I am happy with my purchases. I haven't had to return anything and their customer service is quick with answers and helping me find an item. read more

After the worker didn't show up we went to front and the lady at the front gave us an attitude saying that the Starbucks worker is on her break. With no sign up we asked for a sign to be put up next time. Then again the front worker gave us an attitude saying that she doesn't have to. So we left and the instant that we left the star bucks worker showed up to take care of other people. read more

Another friendly associate promptly retrieved my order and off I went. Quick and easy. I love brick and mortar bookstores rather purchasing books from Amazon. This Barnes and Noble in Marlton is well organized, clean and nice to browse through. I've always had friendly assistance whenever I called to check to see if books I was looking for was in stock and they even offered to put those books on hold for me. They have a decent toy section, a journal/stationery section, a magazine section, a discounted book section, and a small Starbucks cafe area with some tables. This bookstore is not as big as the Cherry Hill location, but that's why I like it. Their parking lot is convenient, too compared to the busy parking lot in the Cherry Hill B&N location. It's nice to have a bookstore in that area! read more

The bathroom is not ADA compliant for the handicapped. The toilet is a 13 inch toilet instead of 15 inch, so it sits too low. The lone grab bar is set at regular height. So there's no way for you to push yourself up as the grab bar is basically sitting at shoulder height. The floor was slippery, so when I went to get up, I felll backwards, landing on the toilet. I was left in a position where I couldn't get myself up. I had to call 911 and have them help me up. The people were considerate when I entered the store but no one said anything to me after the police and EMTs came. They didn't even ask if I was OK! N ever going back to this place ever as it's not compliant with the law. read more

The only reason I'll go here over Borders is if I want Starbucks. It's sad that my rationale for visiting this place has nothing to do with the books. But it says a lot. I'm not in love with their selection or the way they organize it. It seems way more focused on the gimmicky, impulse buys than the selling of books. And good luck finding anyone to help you navigate the place. You could be standing at the help desk for quite some time before you're recognized. There's a music section (a pretty good one, I hear) but I never venture in. It's in the back of the store and walled off as its own entity. Truthfully the worst part is that I don't get that warm, inviting feeling. It's not asking you to come in and stay a while. It's not saying I've got so much for you to explore and enjoy, you'll lose track of time. It's basically a vending machine of its merchandise. After looking through several magazine stands and finding that motorcycle magazines are not that popular, I figured that B&N would be the best and safest shot. Making long flights across the US without good reading material can make the trip feel that much longer. The store was well kept, books and magazines organized, and floors not trashy and chaotic. It was nice to see, something I've almost come to expect from a B&N these days. The checkout lady was nice, though the purchasing process did take strangely long. Oh well, it was an overall good experience. If I ever happened to be back in Marlton, NJ, and I need a book to read, I wouldn't hesitate to come back. 4 Stars. read more

A bigger than normal seating area in their Starbucks cafe is what pushes this Barnes from a 3 to a 4. All of the books are always filed away very neat and orderly and it's usually very easy to find a staff member to help you out. read more

I wish they had more chairs around the book shelves to sit and read. (There are a few in the cooking section). Never had a bad experience here, however, I can agree that it appears short staffed. Again, many people do not read real books anymore - everything is electronic. Perhaps that is why they do not need the staffing? Always enjoy a good cup of coffee at the Starbucks located inside. It is an average size store, although I have visited larger locations. I think the Cherry Hill location is much bigger and slightly newer in appearance. (Mt Laurel location is the worse). read more

It's not a terrible place to find yourself, but they can definitely improve the overall book experience. It seems that, somewhere along the line, B&N forgot they're in the book business. The discounted books section is dwindling. True crime was moved at some point and I can never seem to find it. I can, however, find plenty of calendars, office knick-knacks and greeting cards. And some board games. I can never find a seat to sit and peruse a book I'm about to drop some bills on. I can never find a seat to and enjoy the overpriced coffee I rarely buy. Maybe these are good things. Maybe they need to add more seats. Service is ok. Once upon a time, the people who worked the information desk were fellow book worms. Now they're people who fill a shift. Once upon a time, the cashier would comment on the book you were buying. Now they rush you out so quickly, it's as though they're being timed. The online store is horrible. I've been looking for this book for a while and they said they had it down in Marlton. I was going to be in the area so decided to take the time out of my time to go grab this book. The online page said they had they book and when I got there they didn't. They then tried telling me it wasn't their problem. I was under the impression they had this book when they didn't so they should really work on their online store so this doesn't happen again. Seriously how hard is it to update the website when you sell a book. Horrible service and staff. Never going again, if I could I would give them an even worse rating. A friendly welcome is there to greet you at the cafe here, and the coffee is good. The customer service is also great. Very helpful staff will assist you in finding what you need. Very neatly organized shelves make it a breeze to find an author or a title. Even the music section isn't all that bad in these days of the digital download. I know I'm probably dating myself, but admittedly, there are still some bands that I like to purchase the actual CD for the superior sound quality they offer compared to mp3 files. Finally, the periodicals section is fantastic! There's something for many interests, wide and varied. In these days of online shopping, it's nice to find a place like B&N that cares about the customer experience. read more

It is interesting to see how life spirals. Once upon a time, I used to make the hour drive up here to purchase books. What an amazing book store it was! A little later, a Borders opened down the road. It was heaven for me to bounce back between two good bookstores. Truly a gift! The Amazon.com came along. And they got good. Really good. All of a sudden I wasn't limited in what I could purchase. While it's true that I couldn't have the book today, I often couldn't drive the hour up there today. Amazon began being able to get me the books I wanted tomorrow or the next day, which was often when I could get to B&N. So I stopped driving up here. It's been a decade I bet since I was in here. The Borders closed up as did every book store in my county. As Christmas rolled around I needed a gift. I purchased my Pollyanna a subscription to The New Yorker. I thought it would be nice to put that in a card wrapped with the current issue of The New Yorker, since it would be an issue or two before the prescription began. Well, that apparently can't be done in Cumberland County. A book store did open after the last one closed. It has some magazines, but few that are good and not this one. I tried the Walmarts, Targets, etc. Nada. Thinking I should have something, I decided to make the drive up here. A decade gone but the store looks essentially the same. The magazines and the children's books have changed positions. I was able to dabble with the new color Nook (I am a Kindle fan, but the Nook is nice). I found one, yes that is o-n-e, copy of The New Yorker tucked behind some others. Sigh . . . It was the current edition; I have no idea why this would be so difficult. Alas, I had what I wanted. A couple hours for a magazine. I suspect it'll be some time before I return though. read more

My wife and I were sitting at the Starbucks cafe of this Barnes and Noble when we overheard a person who seemed to be manager of the star bucks (elderly white female with short hair and glasses) make an incredibly racist comment. I'm quoting her word for word, she stated, "This place is starting to look like the United Nations" while motioning to a young college bunch of kids who were Asian and African American sitting around doing their school work. She went on to say some more racist pejoratives that I rather not say here. I have never been so disgusted in my life. This woman needs to be fired. This is a nice place to grab some books. We enjoy bringing our young son to explore the children's area, look at some books, play with the trains, and pick something out to buy. That area is very nicely decorated. The place is becoming more and more a toy store than a bookstore but I guess you do what you have to to compete with Amazon. One complaint is that the sale signs are misleading. They will often say something like "board books buy 2, get third free" but don't mention only a very small selection of board books are included in the sale until you get to the register. read more

There are only a few outlets scattered throughout the store so it's not practical to come here to do work, which is very unfortunate. I understand that the building is old, but you need to accommodate the current needs of your customers.
