Celena's is near the corner of Danforth/Woodbine, across from the East Lynn part. Accessible-friendly, though a but tight at the entry. A friend ordered a cherry pie $18 and a chocolate cupcake $4 for me to pick up. They have an order online option. They can improve and edit to show instead "cupcake" and not its plural form, which is misleading when that's placed alongside a picture of 4 mini cupcakes. Overall, the cupcake is on the sweeter side for me. Cherry pie filling was like expected - tart with plump cherries. The pie dough is average and though I shouldnt do this, I compare all pie shops I visit to Wanda's Pie In the Sky, but that's just not completely fair when they're supreme. The crust at Celena's isnt the most buttery or flakey, in fact they missed to oil/butter the tray the pie was in so trying to take any slices meant you got only the bottom and the top of the pie. No backs to the pie. Could be done better. The space is large with a lot of seating. read more

This is our new fave bakery in my hood. Great place for all manner of baked goods, plus great sandwiches and coffee. Croissants and squares are so good. We also have bought their Cornish pasties, and quiches. Very good. The sourdough bread is excellent, and if you are looking for a small cake for 2-4, they always have great options. I have not had everything, but can also recommend their cookies and their pecan brownies. There is a small seating area with about a half dozen tables. Take away is steady. You will find it busy during lunch hour. They are open at 7 am on weekdays so great for those heading to work. Parking is on the street. read more

I am so impressed with Celina's Bakery. I am not their friends or relatives who want to give them good reviews. My review is genuine and I really like their blueberry cake. I just dropped by and grabbed my snack on my way to work. If we go closer to Leslie ville, we have to pay more for smaller treats, but Celina's Bakery gives us a good portion with a reasonable price. I shopped today at Celena's Bakery after buying a number of items over the past few years. This visit however, guaranteed that it will be my LAST VISIT to that shop ever again. I have purchased many items including various types of bread and buns, pastries both sweet and savoury. Today's purchase was 4 Nainamo Bars and an $18.00 Cherry Pie. The reason for these two items today was because of dinner company coming in after a long absence. When I took the pie out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the colour of the crust which was very dark brown. In attempting to cut pieces for our guest's and ourselves, the crust broke apart and crumbled, plus I was unable to separate the bottom crust from the aluminum pie plate. I'm not sure if the filling was supposed to be some form of sour cherry, but turned out to be very acidic. No one at the table wanted to finish their piece and it made for some awkward apologies all round. We disposed of not only the unfinished slices, but the remainder of this $18.00 pie as well. Totally over baked but that was well - concealed within the box that I bought it in. I definitely would not have purchased this had it been sitting uncovered on display. As for the Nainamo Bars, anyone I have shared them with in the past have sworn that they're almost identical to the ones being sold at Costco. The general consensus is that Cost it's bars are better. I have read many glowing reviews of this Bakery, and cannot understand why. I too, have been witnessed to the horrible, demeaning treatment of the staff by whomever seems to be the manager there. Very unnecessary and greatly embarrassing for that staff member because it happens in front of customers. I would never encourage ANYONE to support this business and would advise all those 'glowing review' yuppie Mommies to open their eyes and find a decent local bakery, even if it means travelling outside your stroller zone! This place is amazing! Their butter tarts are a must try at least once. We got a nice warning from the staff about the butter tarts that they'd be super runny inside, and it does not disappoint. Be ready on standby with a napkins and a plate under the tart, they WILL be runny and oh so delicious! Their almond croissants are also really delicious and freshly made every morning! I haven't had a single baked good here that I didn't like. We've also come here for lunch for some sandwiches. They were made quickly and were delicious on their freshly made bread. Would love to go back to try other sandwiches for lunch. They also have a couple of tables for outdoor seating should you choose to have a bite there. I emailed the general email, and Richard and Julie promptly responded the next day. They provided prices for a fondant cake and butter cream cake for 15-20 people. I picked the butter cream cake and sent a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like. When I picked up my cake, the servers were very friendly. The cake itself exceeded my expectations. The cake looked identical to the photo I sent them. I also ordered a coffee, which was rich and fresh. I really liked it. One of the servers helped me bring my cake to the car. She was super friendly and helpful! Great customer service. The cake itself was really moist and flavourful. Everyone at my party loved it! I was very impressed with the detail of the design. It also fed more than 20 people. I would say we cut 25 square pieces. The price is very reasonable. I paid $75. They accept credit cards. Everything exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I went there on a Sunday around 1pm. It wasn't busy when we entered the shop, but it got busy a few minutes after. I ordered the ham & Swiss croissant and an English breakfast tea and my boyfriend ordered spinach quiche and mushroom quiche. After paying and while waiting for our food, I was told that they don't have croissant so I went with the French baguette. There was a price difference and I waited for 5-10 minutes to get refunded on that. When the foods were served, I noticed that I didn't get my tea and I found out that it was sitting on the counter and the staff were not even sure if it was my English tea... The food was okay, I've had better in other places. Not a good experience for a first time going there. But I liked the warm and welcoming atmosphere there. I really want to like this place because it is an oasis in a sea of dead end businesses and it is close to home. The place is now crowded with folks on a saturday, so I feel a bit better about sharing my hesitations about this place. You might love it, and I hope you will. But I really don't like a croissant with enough heft to hold a door open or a hamburger bun that weighs as much as a hamburger. Everything is really fresh and made with love. The place is nicely decorated and a comfortable place to grab a cup. But I just find that I don't really like the coffee and that all the baking is quite literally very heavy. This place has improved tremendously over the last several years. I'm embarrassed to say that while walking around wearing my sleeping newborn this has become a semi-regular stop for me (I even announce "I'm here for my sugar" when I walk in now). Some of my favourites include the scones and cookies. But the coconut dream bars and nanaimo bars are also decadently good for the occasional indulgence. I follow these folks on Instagram and they make some very impressive looking custom birthday cakes. I have had the pleasure of tasting a few of these at various kids birthday parties and they have not disappointed. The only negatives are that the area around the display window and cash is cramped and chaotic, as others have noted, and the coffee isn't the greatest (I'll admit to getting coffee elsewhere and grabbing a treat from Celena's to go). read more

So after my Friday mom group I heard that there was a new cafe that all the moms frequent after wards so my friends and I headed over there strollers in tow. First of all why this is a hot spot for moms is beyond me since there is hardly anywhere to put a stroller and no where to change your kid in the bathroom (quickly found out when my friend's 6 month old had a poonami). So the three of us crowded around a table for two and we each ordered a sandwich and drink. I ordered a green tea latte while my other friend ordered a mocha. Not even close. My friend tasted hers and turned her nose saying that it didn't even taste like coffee - it just tasted like frothed warm milk, whereas mine tasted just like coffee but with a tea bag floating in it. Gross. So we went back to the barista and told her that the drinks didn't taste right. They then decided to argue with my friend saying that her mocha was right despite the fact that there was obviously NO coffee in her drink - it was pure white, and that that is how you make a green tea latte: with a shot of espresso. Now I'm an avid tea drinker, I don't touch coffee, and let me tell you: that is NOT how you make a make a tea latte unless you want a disgusting one. I told her that that is obviously not how you make one because wouldn't the coffee drown out the taste of the tea thus making the whole point of having tea in it useless in the first place? She begrudgingly made it over again. If it wasn't for my yummy brie and cranberry sandwich the whole experience would have been a write off. If its one thing I know for sure - its not to sit there and fight with the customer especially when you know you're in the wrong, or even when you're in the right, because customers always know best. Especially mothers who need their caffeine fix. Don't fuck with those ones. They'll cut you. read more

went there after I read BlogTO stating they had great danishes. Ordered a danish, a butter tart and a mini quiche. The danish was alright. The fruit in the middle was quite tasty but the outer rim of the danish was rock hard. The certer part was fluffy, soft and tasted quite nice and buttery. The butter tart was horrible. It looked really good but when I bit into it, the center portion, (which is supposed to be of a dense, thick texture) literally poured out of the tart and all over the ground. It had the consistancy of water! Butter tart centers are thick. Not this one. It was water. sugar water. Really not good at all. The quiche was OK. I think I was so disturbed by the butter tart that I couldn't enjoy the quiche. I will try the bakery again but certainly not the butter tarts. read more

Celena's is a bakery, and when I think of bakery, I think of the french word for it - boulangerie. In French there is a separate word for patisserie, and Celena's definitely falls more into the boulangerie category. They are very fairly priced and their baked breads are so good. Equally good are their cookies. Their chocolate cake cookie (yes, chocolate cake MIXED INTO a cookie), is so amazing I dream about it sometimes, and I'm not that big of a cookie fan. I have ordered a cake from them for my son's birthday and the decoration of the cake was so-so as I didn't require too much, but wasn't too pleased that I paid $5 extra for something that was so basically decorated, I could have almost done it myself. The cake is dense, moist and sweet. As my mother-in-law stated, "It tastes like a homemade cake". Soups are homemade and I quite enjoy them. The sandwiches are fair. Their pies also have a homemade quality to them, and are priced right for what they are. Coffees are okay, but not a place where I'd really order something fancy. All in all, a great asset to our neighbourhood and I hope they never leave!! To the poster who said their butter tart was disgusting, I've read that there are two types of butter tarts, the dense thick filling, and the gooey inside. A new bakery opened in my neighbourhood so naturally I needed to see the inner-workings of this place and went to the grand opening (which seemed more like a soft launch/private party that I was crashing). In any case, I didn't stay. Fast forward 2 weeks later to a lazy Sunday where I popped in for a hot chocolate. The seating area is adorable with a nice book shelf on the side which houses their jams. The bakery is painted with a bright and friendly yellow accompanied with lovely artwork on the walls. They offer freshly baked breads as well as sweets which sit in display trays on the counter. They also bake everything on site - top drawer. The kitchen is exposed the way I've always fantasized my bakery to look like. Colour me a little jealous. I ordered a brownie and a hot chocolate. Though the hot chocolate was the blandest I've ever tasted, the brownie was really good - a little cakier then I'm used to but nice. Unfortunately I had to still drink the hot "chocolate" to wash it down. I would definitely come here again to try their other baked goodies. Given the number of bakeries, cafes and coffee shops that are now in the area, the folks at Celena's are going to have to step up their game. Really nice toppings on their little pizzas and certainly affordable, but they really need to work on all of their bread-like offerings. The pizza as well as the breads and buns we've tried have all been underbaked. Nice cookies, but nothing extraordinary. Too many better choices within a block's walk to bother going back. read more

On a rainy Sunday afternoon we popped into Celena's to grab a loaf of bread and something to tide us over until dinner. The bread was a plain brown loaf, and we grabbed some nice looking savoury tarts - one artichoke and one bacon and cherry tomato. The place itself seemed very pleasant and the service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, the food itself did not live up to these standards. The bread was woefully under-salted and bland, and while the tarts were tasty, the filling to crust ratio was all wrong, and the crust itself was slightly undercooked. We'll go back to try the sweet treats they offer before we write them off, but as it stands we can make far better stuff at home than the offerings available at Celena's. read more

One of the worst cakes we have ever tasted! Two simple orders were placed with these guys - a birthday cake and a dozen of small sized cup cakes in a particular flavor. They messed up the order for cup cakes (forgot to bake the ones specified!!!) and offered to replace it with another flavor. Since it was the day of the event I decided to get what they offered and went my way. Both, the cake and cup cakes were pretty tasteless, dry and hard as a ROCK!!!! I went there on a Saturday, and was pretty happy with my purchase. I loved the danish, and cranberry muffin, but the apple turnover had very little filling. The pastry dough was super delicious in both the danish and apple turnover - very buttery. I'll be back! Celena was the one that served me and was very nice! Update for July 2017 I'm dropping this place by one star. I can't recommend the danishes or croissants anymore. I dont know if they have a new pastry chef, but these goodies have gone down hill and are too dense and chewy to be enjoyed. I ordered a carrot cake with cream cheese icing for my daughters baptism from this bakery. I put in the order on Tuesday and they were able to accommodate a pick up day on Friday! I thought that service was great. The cake tasted absolutely fantastic. It was moist with three layers and cream cheese icing in between. They gave me the option of pecan, walnut or raisin in the cake. The cake looked really pretty and the icing was delicious. The cake was priced well. I would order from them again. The only reason I'm not giving them a 5 I'd because I've had better carrot cake in the city. What can I say, I know my carrot cakes. read more

I've been going to Celena's Bakery since they opened.,,and I recommend it highly. The bread is fabulous...several varieties, no additives or preservatives. It's closest to my Grandmother's (born in 1897) that I've ever tasted Whole Wheat tin loaf is my favourite but all are equally good. (I do try to eat something that's healthy before I go for the sugar!) Pies are excellent, especially the cherry made with sour cherries. Cookies excellent, as are the lemon cranberry squares. At Christmas I buy a variety of squares and cut each into 4 and often give them as gifts. Recently they've started selling cake by the slice. Each one I've had has been excellent...butter cream icing, moist delicious cake. Am working my way through each variety, treating myself to 1 slice a week. Soups are also excellent. Service is not Starbucks, but I go there because it's not Tims or Starbucks, or a grocery chain. Give it a try and focus on the food; it's a small operation and the staff work hard even if there are a few wrinkles. read more

Love coming to this local bakery. Amazing cookies and sandwiches. And I love coming here on the weekend to buy fresh bread. Not sure what happened but the staff just doesn't know their products and everything is sooooo slow now. And please if you work in a bakery you should know what a bakers dozen is!!!! Drives me nuts! Every time I go in they only give me 12 and today the front of staff girl only have me 10??!!!! I want to keep coming back but please train your staff better or hire more because the wait is painfully slow and they should be knowledgeable about what they are selling. read more

This place is hit and miss. The food and bakery selection is okay but nothing special. The croissants are very pilsburry style, more doughy, not crispy and fluffy. The breads are really great, especially the challa that's only available on weekends. What has always been consistent for us though is the terrible service and chaotic atmosphere inside. It always seems like no one knows where to line up or place an order. Staff also don't know how to manage orders or their patrons. The lady at the cash is also a bit off putting.
