I'm very unhappy to be giving such a terrible review because I've been supporting this bar since it's opened. I don't go as frequently as I used to, but I've always had an amazing time here. I've always had amazing customer service and delicious drinks. May 27,2025 I had the worst experience and now no longer feel the same positivity towards this bar due to the bartender who is working around 7pm that day. This is going to be a constructive review I walk into the bar, which is very slow and the bartender had her back to the bar talking on her personal cell phone She saw me, continued her conversation, never even once greeted me or acknowledged me at the bar top, then proceeded to go in the back and be on the phone for probably about 10 minutes I came in to grab a drink before my movie started. When she finally came back to take our order, I was noticeably annoyed. I ordered a cider. The glass she used was dirty. I noticed after I took my first sip, and I asked her for a new one. She grabbed the glass, putting her thumb over the dirty part intentionally saying she didn't see anything and I told her to move her thumb and I could show her where the glass was dirty. She ignored the request and says no it's fine then walks over grab a new glass and then proceeds to pour the cider that was in a dirty glass into the new glass. I stopped her shocked. This is a violation of health code. I don't understand what bartender would think it would be appropriate to put a drink that was in a dirty glass into a new glass and attempt to serve it to me . I pointed this out to her honestly, completely shocked and disgusted. She brushed me off, rolled her eyes and poured me a new beer. I inspected the beer noticing there was something on the glass. Before I said anything to her, I made sure that it wasn't just a scratch on the glass, but it wasn't in fact a chili flake. I point this out to her and request a second drink she originally goes to get me my drink, but then says I need to drop my attitude. This bartender never once showed any humility or concern for not only customer service but health code. She discussed what it could be and I explained to her that if a chili flake is on the glass, it would be from when it was washed, and that would mean that someone's dirty glass that was rimmed got onto this cup. I asked her if she looked at the glasses before she poured the drinks into them to make sure they were clean. At that point, she was irritated and she refused service to me and gave me a refund. She told me I needed to drop the attitude while consistently giving me attitude. Ultimately, yes, I was upset because why would I not be? I hope that your management reconsider her employment because I'm sure I'm not the first or last person. She's going to be doing these things too. What made me more frustrated? Was this whole incident made me miss the beginning of my movie. Tap beers only takes a moment the sun ended up being an over 15 minute situation. I have no problem being patient for other customers, but she didn't have anyone else ordering drinks from her. Her bar top was very slow. So there's really no reason that I should've missed the beginning of my movie and I regret even coming to the bar to order a drink. But it also concerns me as the fact that glasses aren't being cleaned properly. I understand accidents happen, but if it has happened, wouldn't it be smart for the bartender to be looking at the glasses? They're pouring drinks into to make sure it doesn't continue to happen and then pull any glasses that are dirty and re-wash them. I don't think this person is professional. I don't think this bartender cares about the health code. And I won't be ordering any drinks from the bar while she's working because honestly, I don't trust it. Previous to this experience with the specific bartender, I have never had any negative feelings towards this bar only positive ones. I've always recommended it and I've raved about the drinks now... I feel the opposite. I hope things change so that I feel good about coming back to this bar and supporting this business. If they do, I have no problem changing my review, but until that happens, the review will stand . Breaking health code is serious for a bar. And should be taken seriously check your security footage. I've been to Cedar Room a couple of times, and I've always found it to be a lively, casual bar for a fun hangout. I recently went on a Tuesday evening around 6pm for a drink, and the place was pretty busy with several work groups enjoying themselves for happy hour. I know Cedar Room more so for its craft cocktails, but they also have a great, rotating selection of local beers. I had a Double IPA from Berryessa Brewing Co. The music was booming, so I took my drink with me to the outdoor patio area for a much quieter space. What's great about Cedar Room is that there's plenty of seating and standing areas throughout the bar. Lastly, customer service was totally fine. Their mules are very good! They put cool touches on their drinks, like their ice is embossed with "CR" for Cedar Room, & the cups they use for the mules are very fancy pretty. The service was great! Everyone was hustling & super efficient & nice. My favorite thing that was said was about 30 min before last call the server said, "to help you plan your night, we serve our last drink in about 30min." I thought that was so creative & polite! I'd rather go over to OCK (next door) for drinks, but they do get super busy at times. I was at the bar recently and the bartender that served me was okay. Each month, four of us meet for happy hour in the San Jose , Campbell, and Los Gatos area. I am not sure why they advertise happy hour as drinks are only a dollar less than the normal price. Hardly happy hour pricing. The reason for the three star rating, in addition to expensive drinks, the food was unremarkable. Amazing place! We had a blast here last night. First of all... the staff and the ambiance are on point. The bartenders are so friendly and helpful, and the vibe of the bar is both laid back and upbeat. The cocktails, beers, wines, and food are all fantastic. We ordered the pineapple Moscow mule, an IPA recommended by the bartender (cant remember the name but it has a citrus kick to it and was absolutely delicious), a lemon gin cocktail (the name I cannot remember...), and the chicken nachos. They were also kind enough to let us sample a mint baileys creme drink they were testing out. So good! I would absolutely recommend giving this place a try if you haven't already. First time coming to Cedar Room. I went with my sister because, we needed a girls night out. Was seated rapidly and made it just in time for happy hour. Our waiter Tony was funny and very hard working. He made our night! They need more waiters like Tony. He beought us complimentary popcorn which we enjoyed; because who doesnt love free popcorn. As for our drinks, I ordered the Paloma and my sister ordered the prickly pear margarita. They were both good and strong in alcohol. For food we ordered the beef nachos and the cheeseburger. I mean .. where do I even start? The manager Ray is the main point of focus when it comes to the experience I had here @ Cedar Room Let me start by saying I use to serve a few years back at a restaurant @ the Pruneyard and I use to frequent Cedar Room with my coworkers about 4-5yrs ago I went back for the first time since then with my partner and best friend a few days back and received one of the worst customer services I've received at an establishment in my life. Upon sitting, our AWESOME server took our drink orders, carded us & left. Five minutes later, Ray comes to our table, doesn't introduce himself, doesn't greet us .. just asks for our IDs again. I told him our server had already carded us and he said "I need to see your IDs again" . Of course, I asked why because we were all so puzzled that this man who came out of nowhere wants to card us again without reasoning. His response to my question was "I'm the manager and I need to check them again." What kinda explanation is that?! Whilst we're pulling out our IDs, he says our table is too close to the table next to us and physically starts scooting our table while we're sitting there without asking if it was ok to move our table, asking if we could get up so he could move the table, etc etc I mean literally NO MANNERS. Let me also mention for context that we were the only table of minorities in Cedar Room so although it was a disturbing thought, we couldn't help but feel like we were being targeted because what was the REASON behind why this man thinks it's ok to treat a table of colored/Hispanic women like this. I'm really not one to throw out accusations like discrimination without reason but this is the only reason we could think of for the way we were being treated with such little respect. The issue was bigger than the double checking our IDs. It's the way we were being spoken to, the lack of respect, manners, the lack of responding to questions we had regarding his actions, etc etc Anyways, the story isn't over. While he's checking our IDs, we're all obviously looking @ him like he's the biggest douchebag of the century and he has the audacity to say, "are you ok?" to my partner. She sarcastically responded "yeah I'm actually doing great, what about you?!" It felt as if he was trying to antagonize us to act out so he can have a reason to refuse to serve us. It was wild. After recarding us, he leaves. Doesn't apologize. Doesn't wish us a good night. Nothing Who hired this guy?! How does he have a position of power?! It was unbelievable. You, the manager, completely throw my group's energy off for the rest of the night for NO reason, don't offer an apology, don't even attempt to make it up to us for mistakenly double checking our IDs thinking we're underage (even if most of us are in our 30's) & go on about your night as if that was acceptable?!??! So disappointing. I'm so disappointed in Cedar Room for having a manager like Ray. This isn't the first time racism has been mentioned in their yelp reviews (specifically about Ray!) & I'm wondering if the owner even cares that there are MULTIPLE clientele bringing this up about the same guy Our server felt so bad for us, she apologized every opportunity she got cuz it was the most unprovoked behavior I'd ever faced as a customer. Our double date started off with a few cocktails here prior to our movie showing and boyyyy was it poppin' on a Sunday evening. The tables and bar was packed with laughing patrons who were clearly enjoying themselves and I was pretty shocked by the fun interaction going on between bartenders & consumers. My and my friend stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon for a little drink and bite in time for happy hour. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and we chose outdoor because it was such a nice day. We started with the coconut shrimp from the happy hour menu which was smaller than expected but SO GOOD. It tasted super fresh and the coconut flavor was amazing. We also got the Mac n cheese, which had a great flavor but was a bit soupy for my liking. We both started with the Thai tea long island and it was probably one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Definitely strong but the Thai tea flavor was still prominent. Then I had what I think was called the vampire cosmo, which was also very very good. The Pruneyard just rose from the dead and what used to be chain restaurants covering this place just turned into a cool hip spot for people to go out. And the cedar room does not disappoint. In what is probably the best bar in this square, the cedar room stands far and tall from their competition. With great and strong cocktails, wide variety list of beer and bar food this place on top of that is nearby a movie theatre which makes it for an entire dinner and a movie experience all in one. I stumbled upon this place wanting to check out the Pruneyard and walked in to their Drag Bingo which occurs every Wednesday. The queens performed more than the bingo and that was the best part of it. The drinks are 12 dollars each and the best drink is 14 dollars. Two of them and I was good for the night. Three and I probably wouldn't remember the place to give a review. So with that being said bartenders are doing an awesome job. read more

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this place! I don't think San Jose has anything similar! The inside is so cozy, it feels like it's snowing outside and you're taking a break in a mountain bar listening to some music and having a beer. It is a bit small so not for big groups. They do have an outdoor patio that is a bit roomier. The menu is on the pricier side with their cocktails but it's kinda worth it. I highly recommend trying the white peach tequila twister but just 1 or 2 because they don't taste strong but they pack a punch. The food is pretty good. The service is great too! I felt like I was at a bar on the beach in Hawaii or Jamaica or anywhere else besides San Jose, CA (Bob Marley belting out tunes to boot). They also play some decent mainstream music. The staff were super friendly and I think I will probably make some great bar friends here. Tiki Thursday menu works like a HH menu. A select number of Island cocktails and beers as well as a short Jamaican-inspired menu. Despite the delectable cocktail options, I was in the mood for a mojito, so in tropical island spirit, they made me a coconut mojito. I ordered Jamaican dry-rub wings that came with a dipping sauce that looked like honey mustard but was actually a sweet sauce with an amazing slow bite at the end. So delicious that I had none to bring home. My buddy got the chicken skewers, and they were equally to die for. That came platter style with rice and a fresh salad of greens and tomato topped with bright green peas. Loved it. I'm looking forward to another visit- perhaps on Drag Queen bingo Wednesday's?
