I am a fan of Chilaquiles and find that many places are a hit or miss with how they make them. What I loved about the Chilaquiles here is that they coat each chip with the sauce. I am happy I ordered the Chorizo Chilaquiles for my breakfast entrée because I really enjoyed it. We also got a Waffle and some coffee drinks. Everything was great and the service was really nice. Madrez! Café is located off of historic Route 66 east of downtown. They offer both breakfast and lunch and have indoor and outdoor seating. Seating can be limited here on busy days. On the menu you will find gorditas, skillets, birria tacos and burritos. The food is both flavorful and colorful. They also have a nice selection of espresso drinks if you are a coffee snob like me. This is definitely one of my top places to grab breakfast in Flagstaff and I will be back again someday.

It's located next to Fratelli Pizza on N Fort Valley Rd in north Flagstaff. There's a small open parking lot with the old gas station remains. They have both an indoor and outdoor seating area for customers too. My boyfriend and I shared their Snickerdoodle Latte and Humphreys Breakfast Panini. The latte was delicious! It was very flavorful with a nice aroma. It wasn't too sweet either. The panini was also really good. The egg was definitely a winner! I did wish the panini was more full and had a bit more bacon. The sauce/aioli they had on the side was really good. It made the panini more flavorful in my opinion. Overall, a cute, nice pit stop for a quick snack and brain fuel as we head back down to Phoenix.

They have a pretty extensive menu, with everything from breakfast items to lunch options, smoothies, and plenty in between. There's definitely something for everyone. I ordered from their 2 for $14 section, which included a smoothie and half a salad. I chose the Two 88 Shake, which does have a $1 surcharge, but honestly, I didn't mind one bit because this smoothie was SO GOOD! Since they're closed on Sundays, I actually ordered one to go for breakfast the next morning! That's how much I liked it. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I asked if they could swap the espresso for matcha, and they were totally cool with it. Love a place that's flexible and accommodating! For my salad, I went with the Harvest Salad and added an order of Beyond breakfast sausage for some extra protein. The "half" salad was actually a pretty generous portion, and combined with the full-size smoothie, the $14 combo was a really good amount of food. I was pleasantly surprised by how filling it was! My boyfriend ordered the Golden State Wrap, and he loved it too. He said it was delicious! The staff were all so nice and friendly, which made the experience even better. You order at the counter, and they bring your food out to you, simple and easy. Honestly, if I lived in Flagstaff, I'd probably come here every day. It's exactly the kind of casual spot I love, good food, plenty of choices, reasonable prices, friendly people, and portions that actually satisfy you. If you're ever in Flagstaff, MAKE A STOP HERE. You'll thank me! I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in town!

Anyway, after all that, this month when said pancake arrived, I put a finger to it for a temperature check immediately: cold. The server apologized and said she would very quickly be back with fresh ones. And very quickly she was back with fresh ones (the best I've ever had there). Come on. Then after all that, the bill hits you like a punch, reminding you of the excessive price you had agreed to pay for the pancake+blueberry add-in+upgrade to pure maple syrup because you had faith the hour waits you endured in the past were unusual, one-off experiences. Also, I know the mismatched chairs are supposed to be part of the "charm", but they are becoming so worn out even the ones with cushions add an element of physical pain to enduring the wait times.
