    Chicken Kebab Sandwich
    Rena G.

My brother-in-law recommended this place to us after his Iraqi co-worker introduced this place to him. So, as we say in Hawaii, the "coconut wireless" is getting around. If ever in the area, I highly suggest stopping in and trying the kebab sandwiches. I ordered the chicken, my husband had the beef, and my brother-in-law got the spicy beef. It took about 15 minutes to receive our food (just enough time to peruse around the shop and the Mexican market next door). The sandwiches are served hot in freshly baked in-house samoon (bread). Along with your protein of choice, the pita-like pocket sandwich is stuffed with diced tomatoes, chopped lettuce and a white cream sauce, which I think was yogurt (as I am unfamiliar to this type of cuisine). At first bite, I knew that the food was definitely worth waiting for. Now, I can't wait for my next visit to venture out and try some of their other menu options. Oh, and if you're not keen to sampling Iraqi cuisine, I noticed that they had a burger and fries option on the menu, too. So, stop by and check this place out! They're really friendly with a family-like vibe here.

Grocery. Middle Eastern, food to go,

It's a very small grocery store, with hot food to go as well. We had chicken taj (similar to kabob), samosa (beef filled), & some kind of flat bread with cheese spread. Everything was good. Friendly people. Butcher is in the rear. You can buy freshly made bread as well. They're diamond shaped.

    Hummus and Falafel

I've had lots of Shawarma, but this is the best. The bread is unbelievable, the chicken is perfectly seasoned, the sauces, the hummus, the falafel, etc. etc... this place rules. I've had great service here, and it's a really nice little shop. I have a hard time imagining that I'll find a better spot for Shawarma anywhere else.

Samoons, beef shawarma over rice, chicken shish kebabs over rice

You won't regret trying the food here. This place caught my eyes since it reminded me of an Indian food/market that I frequent back home. It felt really authentic from the reviews and it did not disappoint! Samoons are definitely the star here. I would definitely go back for those. It's a pillow-y heaven of a bite and it goes so well with their hummus (which they add some sambal into which is genius). I also recommend the chicken shish kebabs - a lot of flavor. Very nice staff. I called ahead and the lady on the phone answered all my questions politely and the food was ready just in time when we got there. I also really enjoy that you can buy each item by piece - you can get the samoons individually (60 cents each) or by bag (comes with 15) ; you can get shish kebabs by piece too. Overall, a delightful experience and will definitely be coming back!

This store is pretty fantastic. We get their pita fresh from the wood fire oven frequently. I hope to try more dishes one day.

Great pita bread. Also had fresh baked flat bread and Pastries. Nice market for middle eastern foods. Had a meat market in the back.

Warm welcoming, authentic food that made with love, and wide variety of grocery. The best middle eastern store in Oregon so far.

The lamp shank was fall off the bone tender and juicy. The flatbread was freshly made and was so soft with a good chew. It was definitely made from scratch or at least tasted like it. The shawarma was SO tender and flavorful. The hummus and baba ganoush were also excellent. Even the French fries were so good!! The owners were so hospitable and made us feel like we were in their home kitchen. You can tell they take their food seriously and cook with love! Oh yeah and the Iraqi tea! You can see it in the picture. Owner was friendly, it was nice talking with him. I will be back to try more food! I dropped it one star (from a 4.8) because as others mentioned, the cleanliness of the floor. The tables, seats, and all that were fine but it was clear the floors need some attention. Not "tacky" as others mentioned but the corners need a good deep clean. I only noticed because I dropped silverware while dumping my plate so got a closer look when I picked it up. To be fair it was only next to the trash can. Otherwise nothing stood out as anything of concern.

From a true gyro connoisseur, this is an Ok gyro. It's not bad, but also not great. The ratio of…read moremeat to veg is off (way too much lettuce). It also has very thin gyro meat you can see in the photos that are like slices you can buy at the store vs the thick electric serrated knife cut chunks I prefer. The thicker meat gives more flavor of the herbs when you bite in, but this has way Too much veg. The bread should also be toasted or grilled. It was soft so likely warmed. I will try the other gyro cart next time. If you want the best gyro in Portland (though their hours are horrible) make the effort to go to Cedos on MLK. It will change your life. Would I order a gyro here again? Probably not, whip is why I gave it two stars. I figure other items here are likely better. And the improvements would be pretty simple. Nice service. Great ambiance when the weather is nice outside.
