Huge menu with a ton of vegetarian food, and they also make some Persian dishes and huge variety. The falafel is great, and I'm saying that as one of those vegetarians who is not crazy about falafel. One of the best dishes was the kashkeh bademjan, the eggplant spread. Couldn't stop eating it. Would gladly eat here again and try a different dish every time. The interior was nice and the decor was pleasant, a good vibe to start with. However, some red flags came up right away: with only two people working, service was quick, but when we went to pay, nobody was at the counter which felt unprofessional. I ordered the lamb kebab (it was the staff's recommendation). Visually it looked fine, but the flavor was disappointing: the meat tasted bitter and overcooked, almost like it was burnt. I found the food to be very lacking in flavor. I had the lamb Shawarma; the lamb was very tough almost like it was left over from the night before. The rice was beautifully cooked, but nothing really had very much flavor. My husband had the fish of the day, which was salmon and honestly, I was a little sad that there wasn't some sort of fish of the day that was closer to something native to Lebanon. however it was beautifully cooked. What an incredible food journey today at Salam, a Lebanese gem that deserves every bit of praise. It all started with their flatbread--warm, soft, and almost like a delicious roti. We paired it with chicken and hummus, and wow--absolutely amazing. Then came the lamb shank, and it stole the show. Perfectly cooked, fall-off-the-bone tender, and the rice? Packed with flavor. A solid 10/10. We also tried the chicken seekh with saffron rice, which was nicely done. The ground lamb pizza wasn't my personal favorite--felt a bit too tomato-heavy--but my friends loved it, so it really depends on your palate. Now, the grand finale: Turkish coffee with a mixed dessert platter. And let me tell you--Knafa + Turkish coffee = pure heaven. I had a foodgasm. Truly one of those rare, unforgettable dessert experiences. The service was wonderful--I believe it was the owner who personally checked on us, gave thoughtful recommendations, and brought such a warm, positive vibe to the entire place. Salam is my absolute favorite! I frequently order via Grubhub or Uber Eats, but I was in the neighborhood this weekend and placed an order for pickup. I wasn't sure if the big bread was included, so I checked the bag when picking up and it wasn't in there, they made one for me, while I waited I was able to confirm it was separate for purchase on the website now, I offered to pay, and the nice gentleman who helped me refused. That was so nice and above and beyond! I believe he's the owner since I've seen him there for years, great guy! If you're stuck on what to order I recommend the kebab plates - the kafta/koobideh (ground beef), steak, and lamb are all delicious! Their saffron rice is absolutely delicious, no other restaurant makes it like they do. Additionally, I'd recommend the tatziki, Shirazi salad, hummus, whipped feta, or the Jibneh pizza if you're looking for a good side. read more

I'll keep this short and sweet. Service was great, the manager or owner (or worker), was friendly (not overtly) but professional. It started with a huge portion of baked Lebanese bread fresh and piping hot from the oven. Next time, I'll order a side of hummus for dipping in addition to the oil and herbs that they provide. I'm usually a bit skeptical with it comes to kabobs at a Middle Eastern/Persian restaurant but this place exceeded my expectations. And the price point on the menu was very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. The lamb, beef, chicken meats were all done perfectly and very tender. They give you a generous side of basmati rice and tabouleh (half and half) with the kabob plates. And to top it off, they remove the skewer stick so you don't have to struggle with it. If/when I'm back in the area, will definitely stop by to try some other dishes. read more

Friday night date night with Wife N, continuing our quest for great local shawarma. Tonight's dinner out finds us at Salam Restaurant in Orenco Station, Friday evening, 6:30. The place was pretty lightly filled for a Friday evening, maybe 30% capacity. We were immediately seated and the biggest fresh pita I've ever seen (probably 16") was brought to the table along with some olive oil and a lovely dried herb mix to dip. Pita was fabulous. I ordered the Veggie Dolmeh (rice wrapped in grape leaves), and we each ordered a lamb shawarma wrap. The veggie dolmeh had a recipe I couldn't resist trying: rice, lentils, raisins and dill. This unusual combination gave them a sweet, almost pipe-tobacco-like aroma and flavor. I'm not 100% convinced I loved them, but definite points for the unique recipe. The shawarma wraps hit the spot, though both Wife N and I thought the meat itself was under-marinated and not as flavorful as some other places we've tried. In all, a perfectly fine spot for a quick Mediterranean dinner and Orenco Station itself is a beautiful place to stroll around after. read more

I was hungry and this was the only decent place open near our apartment. They were friendly and welcoming though the place was completely empty on Friday one hour before closing... I'm still glad I tried their falafel wrap and fries (they're $1 off if you get them as a side to your wrap). The fries weren't crunchy but they were real potatoes which I think is difficult to find lol. The wrap wasn't the best I've tried but it was huge compared to other places I'd say it's like twice the size. The downside was the bread which was tough and the falafel which was soft and not crunchy at all. Maybe it's their style but I expected the falafel to be crunchy. We ordered online last night for pick-up, first time visiting. We wanted to share a variety of kabobs, so we ordered the chicken, beef, and veggie...along with one side salad. The kabob meals are simply the meat and rice, granted it's a load of rice. The flavors of the meats were ok, a bit uneventful, but cooked very well. The veggie kabob was good, although missing the potatoes and tomatoes as described on the menu. The salad was forgotten, although paid for. We arrived around 6:30 PM on Sunday and the place is quite empty but then more customers started to come. The food is amazingly fresh and flavorful. We ordered the veggie Mezza and it comes with their homemade pita bread. It is so good and still warm when they bring it out. The hummus is absolutely my favorite and reminds me how tasty real food can be! The baba ghanoush is amazing as well. Definitely recommend ordering a Mezza plate if this is your first place visit there so that you can try different appetizers. For the main dish, we ordered the beef and lamb kabob and chicken shawarma dishes. The meat is so juicy and fresh, and one thing I particularly like about their food is nothing is too salty. The chicken shawarma has a strong cardamom taste, so if you don't like the flavor then this dish might not for you. We ordered baklava for dessert and it is amazing. The phyllo dough is super crispy and the bottom is well soaked in syrup. The sprinkle of rose water is definitely a perfect touch. Salam restaurant is located in the Orenco Station area. They have been operating since 2013. The restaurant bills itself as Lebanese, Persian/ Iranian and Mediterranean. They serve some very nice Mediterranean dishes including hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouleh etc. But some of my favorite items here are listed under their Persian fare. I've ordered food delivered from Salam several times lately and it's worked out well. I've enjoyed their Veggie Mezza, Vegan Mezza and their Veggie Wrap. My favorite items are their Gheymeh Bademjan, Kashkeh Bademan and Mirza Ghasemi. Entrees come with fluffy saffron basmati rice and a huge pita bread that is soft and delicious! Salam offers many vegetarian and vegan choices. Items that are vegetarian or vegan are clearly marked on their menu, making it very easy to order. You can reach Salam by taking the blue line MAX train to Orenco Station. There is also street parking and a nearby parking garage.
