I love staying at hostels because you meet the most interesting people and get that comfy home vibe…read morethat you can't get by staying at a manufacture hotel chain. While staying here at the hostel I meet my "twin", this girl who I was sharing a bunk bed with had the same name as me and also the same birthday! We were born 5 years apart and in different countries but with a different last name! Crazy! I love it!! My trip out west took me to ABQ and while searching for hostels this came up and decided to book with them during the balloon fiesta week. Located on historic route 66 this hostel sits between downtown and old town making it a great location close to everything. The famous Dog House restaurant is within walking distance of the hostel and a bus line runs by it as well if you are without a car. They do have parking but it's first come first serve, it is located behind the hostel. Enter through the ally and you will pass the first 2 apartments and then the hostel parking will be visible, only like 6 cars are able to fit but street parking is also available. Upon arrival the staff checked me in and even though they were super busy with visitors trying to book over the phone due to balloon fiesta the staff still welcomed me with friendliness and a big smile. I stayed a total of 2 nights, one night on my way to Arizona and another night on my drive back home to Texas. Both of these times I received nothing but outstanding customer service from all the staff here at mother road. To all the staff, Cheryl and Angel especially, you guys have been beyond amazing and may yall be blessed with many more years of health so that yall can continue to greet visitors with a loving smile. The staff is truly an example of what outstanding hospitality is all about, they went above and beyond anything I was expecting. I felt safe the whole time there, the girls in my room were chill and the people I meet while having breakfast there one morning invited me to ride with them to balloon fiesta! Always kind and friendly folks everywhere doing random acts of kindness! Love it! The building itself is really old but full of character. I overheard one of the staff talking to a guest and mentioned that at one point the hostel was a brothel! (dont quote me on it because I did not ask I just overheard). They have a lot of rooms and small nooks that it is really fascinating to see how they have adopted the house to meet the current needs of its habitants. You cannot take a single step inside without making the floor creek and eek with every step. They only allow smoking outside and they have continental breakfast available (there is a farmers market across the street from them so they get eggs from them every morning!). There are plenty of bathrooms available so if the one in your room is occupied just walk down the hallway and you will find one available. They have space heaters but if you are cold they do have extra blankets free of charge. The bunk beds are all different and I prefer bottom bunk because a big curvy girl like me does not feel safe on the top bunk. Bunk beds are first come first serve so get here early for your preference on bunk beds. Overall I really loved my stay here at mother road hostel and I can't wait to go back and stay with them again due to how much I enjoyed my stay with them.

My second favorite thing is meeting the other staff, residents, and travelers. The Mother Rode Hostel was a terrific location right in between Downtown Albuquerque and Old Town. We were so happy with our private room and it's private entrance, second bedroom, cute little bath and awesome kitchenette. We totally lucked out!! The staff were super friendly as well and we even spoke with the owner (who doubles as a real estate agent) at looking at property in this area. We are in the market for a vacation home or two and really fell in love with this part of New Mexico! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. Be sure to check out the Farmer's Market across the street.

If you want to be stolen from and harassed in the middle of your wedding this is the place to be!…read moreExtremely disrespectful how the bar manager handled some things. In the middle of our wedding, he told my coordinator that if we did not move our Photo Booth that he was going to have to get his Volkswagen van out of the venue which to do so that would involve us having to move tables, chairs, decorations and my guests out of his way. He was being very rude about it because we set up our Photo Booth in front of his van and then he said we owed him $100 to use his van as a prop, because we told him there no way we could move his van without disturbing my entire wedding. We were never once told this and if this was an issue, he should've moved the van out of the venue prior to our wedding being set up and STARTED! It was very rude. And then well in the middle of my wedding, my guess were being told they needed to move their cars. My aunt and uncle are very disabled and they were told they had to go park down the road at big five because they were parked in someone's parking spot, but it clearly was a disabled parking. Right before me and my husbands first dance I was told that I needed to move my vehicle, apparently it was parked in "the owners spot" I have been parked there since the night before and hadn't been told anything. There was NO SIGN that said owners parking.. and to wait till literally the MIDDLE OF MY WEDDING to ask me to move it is crazy. All of this could have been told to me prior to the wedding, it didn't even start till 3pm in the afternoon. At any point prior, I could've been told to move my vehicle, but I am a guest at the hotel so I don't know what the problem is. And Tob could've moved his van anytime he wished, but he waited. The next morning @8am my husband and family woke up to clean venue and pack up decor. We then realized $400 of my decor was stolen. This has left me distraught. I have repeatedly ask to see there cameras, and no one will respond to me. I let them know that if my property could not be recovered will have to file a police report with Santa Fe police for my property being stolen. In response they were extremely passive aggressive and said I was "bold" for accusing them of taking my property and that they would be "thrilled" to help me find it if it was in there property. I'm attached photos of my stuff stolen. When we arrived then morning all the pampas grass was taken from my arches and vases with pampas in it. I sent hours putting this together and about $400 on this decor and for this to be take on a day that is supposed to be so special is just disgusting and unprofessional. Not to mention they catered the food it was gross and the beds are hard as a rock. I'm also not saying the venue itself stole my decor but the staff themselves.. just seeing how Todd the bar manager behaved shows me the establishment does not mind disrespecting people. The place is gorgeous, but not worth this headache. The pictures are of the property I haven't been able to recover. (ALL OF MY PAMPAS GRASS) and emails.

Louie was easy to work with and glad that you came in town to visit. The setup Luxx has for parking is worth it. Tricky at first: you have to enter through the exit lane and then go out the pedestrian gate at the left. You'll see. Beds are comfortable. We loved the lavender infused essential oil soaps. Inside your room the decor reflects the brown and tan colors of the desert. The all-natural animal print was almost a bit too African (ever see a zebra in the New Mexican desert?) But hey, it works. The back patio is a great option for a gas fire and hot tub. The main common room has fantastic sky lighting and relaxing music. But you need to stay here for the location. We walked everywhere. Museums, shops, churches, restaurants, and the plaza are all a stone's throw away.

As other reviews have mentioned, the place is keyless. Normally, I love that, but when I stayed at…read morethe Luxx, someone tried to enter my room late at night. I was staying in this room alone, so I was a bit freaked out. When he (obviously) failed to enter my room, he went around the back and tried to enter through the window!!! My room was on the first floor, facing the backyard sitting area (where there are seats, fountains, a tub). The guest was probably drunk and forgot which room was his, but it was still scary to have him try to enter my room twice. I don't necessarily blame Luxx for this issue, but when I raised this at check-out the next day, the man at the counter laughed and said something along the lines that he'd have better luck next time. Wtf -- Even if we weren't in this period of #metoo and #imwithher, I never want the hotel employee to joke about my room being broken into. Another thing is that I booked the Luxx through Booking.com and was sent a reservation confirmation with the final price. When I checked my credit card, there was a discrepancy. It wasn't much, but still odd that they charged me more than they said they would. I tried calling, I left a couple of voicemails -- no response. Bottom-line: Find somewhere else to stay.

On a busy convention night, the dining room was packed, yet the energy felt festive rather than frantic. Thanks to a well-timed reservation, my party settled in comfortably despite the initial blast of aggressive air-conditioning--a smart move after last week's heat, though the growing crowd of happy diners soon brought the room to a more pleasant temperature. Service was excellent from the start. We were warmly greeted by the hostess, a supervisor, and our server, setting a tone of genuine care that never wavered. The pacing was near-perfect: attentive without hovering, with drinks refreshed proactively and plates cleared at just the right moments. To begin, I ordered the green chile beef stew. It arrived promptly, hot and deeply flavorful, with tender beef and that signature New Mexican green chile heat that lingers just enough to wake up the palate. For my birthday libation, the S'mores Old Fashioned was a delightful twist--smoky, sweet, and dangerously smooth. The entrées showed Char's Southwestern strengths. The enchiladas were deeply comforting, while the carne asada arrived perfectly grilled with robust flavor. Both were elevated by the bright, creamy Mexican Street Corn on the side--charred kernels, cotija, and a hint of lime that cut through the richness beautifully. We closed the evening with the new arroz con leche from the updated dessert menu. Warm, cinnamon-kissed rice pudding topped with a generous scoop of cinnamon ice cream proved to be the ideal sweet finale--comforting yet refined, with contrasting temperatures that made every bite exciting. From the thoughtful service to the consistent execution of both classics and new offerings, Char once again proved why it's a go-to spot for special occasions. If you're in Albuquerque and want elevated NM dining, Char meets the need.

Nice hotel, but the experience was mixed. I would say it…read moreshould be 3 1/2 stars. Right from the start, check-in was frustrating. We pulled up to the front entrance where a sign clearly said Check-In Parking, yet were told we could not leave the car and had to valet or park in the garage. We weren't even allowed to step inside to check in, which made things unnecessarily awkward. As we just wanted to check in run a grab a bite to eat down the street as we just drove 7 hours. The hotel itself is very nice and interesting -- it's one of the first Hilton hotels built from the ground up, which is pretty cool. The room was a highlight. Spacious, clean, and well designed with a beautiful large soaking tub, separate shower, and a great layout overall. Morning coffee service was disappointing 2 of they days we stayed -- coffee was out then tea was missing the next, and no water bottles were replaced in our room after housekeeping, so we couldn't make our own in theroom. Dinner at Char did not meet expectations, especially for the price. Our medium-rare steaks came out well done, and although we mentioned it, nothing was done to fix it. We had a party there a couple nights later and it was buffet style. Our steak was way better in that and I hate buffets. That said, Jarod at the bar was great we had a few drinks with him through the nights we stayed and he was out bartender at the party we hosted he was one of the highlights of the staff that we came across. Lastly, the surrounding area felt pretty sketchy at night. Some positives, but enough frustrations that it impacted our stay.

Over the years before we retired to NM we stayed in a LOT of places in Santa Fe including La Fonda where we had a tiny room way in the back (they should have paid us). So to find a place close to all for a really good price including breakfast was nice surprise. Good they take dogs for a fee, good breakfast and nice area to walk your doggie. Easy walk to railyards and plaza. Next to Whole Foods although this is one of the worst of the chain I have ever been in. Needs major update. Not as good yes it's a motel, yes it's old, yes it needs some work. But if you want to be closer to the older areas it's a good pick vs the generic places on Cerrilos, other side of St Francis. I would and probably will stay again. I have a few suggestions I will send to management Also staff for the most part were super nice.

The Sage is also in a good location, it's close to town, restaurants, coffee shops, landmarks, and more.
