There's an Ace hardware and a Lowes nearby, but the knowledge and scope of Jackson Lumber people drills deeper. Got a replacement baluster there recently (took an old one for comparison, which helped). (Google shows it at the corner of Jefferson at Prospect, but the showroom at #10 is down the block, which confused me the first time. I teach audio technology and build and design acoustic treatments for studios and home theaters…read more Kamco is the best source of acoustic materials in greater Boston. They stock the reclusive Owens and Corning 703 rigid fiberglass and sell it for about half of what it goes for on the net. Last time I checked, the pricing was about $80 for 12 pieces 24" x 48" x 2" which sells for about $160 from various suppliers on the Internet. They have absolutely great prices on drywall, metal studs, Acoustic sealant, Decibel Drop (basically blue colored Green Glue), Quiet Rock and the complete line of Sonex products and mass-loaded vinyl as well. I work with Scott Douglas who is the insulation and acoustics guy over there and he's been really helpful. They will deliver for a very reasonable fee.

They will tell you that this is the appropriate class for those with decades of experience, because decades of experience outside of their extra-special, extra-advanced class could not possibly prepare you for their other classes. AFTER they take your money and you arrive at the class, the instructor will tell you that it's a class for rank beginners who have never touched a woodworking tool in their lives. It's a huge scam.

Overall, great experience. Its good to visit a store where people are friendly and passionate about what they do- I am guessing that anyone working here is a wood worker and truly enjoy their craft.
