When in Santa Barbara, Caya is a pretty good spot with nice vibes to grab brunch without the madness. Great service with a smile goes a long way. I ordered the Cali omelet served with avocado, country potatoes, a pancake sub and a refreshing cranberry mimosa. All was pretty good and certainly hit the spot. I would like to be able to recommend this restaurant because it's very cute and the bartender was so friendly, but overall it was a disappointment. The food is so-so. I tried the Cali Hummus, shrimp quesadilla and chicken tacos while staying at the hotel the restaurant is in. The tacos were pretty good, but the pita bread with the hummus was burned and the quesadilla was lacking seasoning. The margarita on Margarita Monday was quite good though, so maybe just grab a drink before going elsewhere for food. The biggest problem though is that they don't open on time and the service is overall really spotty. One morning I was down for breakfast 30 mins after they should have opened and the front desk told me it could be 30 mins more because they were still waiting for someone to show up. The next time I tried to do breakfast they were open, but after standing around for a few minutes with nobody in sight, I decided to try something else. I went to CAYA with some girlfriends after going wine tasting, so we were looking for a good meal to end our day out. Unfortunately, we left CAYA unsatisfied and out over $100. The one thing that was pretty solid was the espresso martini. For the Mac and cheese, I got it with asada for protein which was overcooked and dry. Also not very cheesy and didn't come out super hot. My friends who got the plain Mac and cheese because they're vegetarian were also underwhelmed by the lack of sauce. The fried onions were a good touch though. The salad situation though was quite frustrating. We requested for the vinaigrette dressing on the side- a pretty common request for salads if you want to control how much dressing on it. Well the salad came out overdressed, and was very sweet when we tried it. So we waived over our server to point out the mistake. She then replied "Do you want me to tell the kitchen?" Well yes, of course that's what we were asking. Then the manager came over to clarify that we didn't want dressing, like why is it such a big deal?! Then the salad (pictured) came out, with EVERYTHING on the side. Seemed passive aggressive and now we ended up paying for a bowl of wet lettuce and cups of toppings. Will all of the trouble it would have been redeeming if they offered to take the salad off of the bill, but there was no such offer. With the sub par service and disappointing food, I would not recommend this restaurant amongst many other options in Santa Barbara. read more

Service was really good and the view was very peaceful. The outside patio has a nice view of the mountain with palm trees and the pool. It made me think, this is the type of place I would have my family stay at if they were to visit. The last place we visited made me think I was getting burger week flavor fatigue... until Caya proved me wrong. Caya was our 5th burger of the day and WOWED me! This place was marked as "?" (we weren't sure if we really wanted to try it). Everything about the burger was cooked to perfection. The egg's yolk drips down the burger after you take your 1st bite, the flavor was a beautiful marriage in my mouth and the burger was juicy! At first I thought it was fat on the plate, but upon a closer look it was the burger juice (want to clarify it was not bloody). What a hidden gem to be found in Santa Barbara. No idea this restaurant was here until just recently, and now I wish I had known about it for longer! Right when you walk in, the restaurant gives off a chic, laidback vibe - like you can just relax with a drink in your hand and an appetizer in front of you. If the weather is nice, there'll be a breeze, and it just puts you in a good mood. Their dinner menu has so many delicious options. Love their Cali Fish Tacos - large piece of fresh fish complete with a chipotle sauce. Their Bucatini Burrata pasta comes with a hefty portion of burrata which really ties the whole dish together. Notable mention to the Gochujang Wings. However, their dessert was my favorite. The Fried Hand Pie was INCREDIBLE. Crisp with tender chunks of spiced apple inside complete with a scoop of vanilla gelato. Great drinks as well - Take me to the Mule is a must try. After a day of driving, we were looking for a place to get a quick bite. Walked to Caya from our hotel next door. Caya is inside the Leto hotel. It wasn't crowded but there were several tables full on a Thursday evening. We got the Mac 'n Cheese with Bacon to share. It was so good - we almost licked the bowl clean! Then he had the vanilla and chocolate gelato and I had the mango and raspberry sorbet (one scoop of each flavor). We both enjoyed them. The servers were attentive without hovering. Restaurant is located inside the lobby and as soon as you walk in, you will be amazed at how beautiful it is. The decor and ambience is top notch. Since we were staying here overnight, we received a voucher for breakfast. Each person in our party received a free entree, you can choose from certain items on the menu. Our waiter was great and was very welcoming. He kept checking with us during our meal and even made conversation with us. I ended up ordering the Leta breakfast which came with two eggs (any style), sausage, potatoes, and toast. The potatoes had a great taste and I am not really a fan of them but these were good. I got scrambled eggs and they were very fluffy and were seasoned with something that was so good. They do offer happy hour and dinner so next time we visit, we will have to try this out. The happy hour menu worked for me! prices were right, atmosphere was cute l, warm on the outdoor patio in July, cool inside in the restaurant. unfortunately the staff seemed inconvenienced by us. Three staff members weren't very friendly. We felt like we were a nuisance and a bother. once we got to ordering a few rounds Bartender was very friendly and made delicious drinks. this place could be outstanding if staff were more welcoming (even a quick "we will be right with you") maybe we caught them at a bad moment. Extremely bland the food and worst service. I used to come here frequently and celebrate birthdays here. Was waiting at the host stand for someone to take our order or seat us for over 5 minutes. Wanted to get a drink with brunch and was told no because "we're not set up". Made us grab our own water glasses and carafe and fill it up ourselves. For the price at a place having to seat ourselves and fill our own waters at their bus station seems absurd. Then when asking for condiments server walks away and does not even respond to us. i enjoyed a nice breakfast spread here at caya, and chose to sit outside on the beautiful patio overlooking the pool and mountains in the distance. my server was joseph, he was kind and patient. i ordered 2 eggs over medium, toast and a pancake with coffee. fantastic eggs, big fluffy pancake and delicious sourdough. the fruit preserves was plated with the toast, but i put it on the pancake instead and it was the perfect pairing. if you ask, they have real maple syrup available, which i really appreciated! although the menu has decent options, i wanted something relatively on the smaller side so i went for the a la carte. the coffee was decent, i would have liked for there to be flavored creamer options. i don't typically order eggs out but these were worth it! i would have ordered more if this meal wasn't so filling already. great prices. i did have to ask for silverware, salt, pepper and sugar. We were in Santa Barbara for my son's UCSB orientation, and we stayed at the Leta Santa Barbara Goleta Hilton. On our second night there, we decided to try the Caya restaurant for dinner. We had a nice meal there which I would give 3.5 stars, if possible, but I rounded up because of the service and decor. Ambiance was very nice. The decor was open air, rustic and inviting with cushioned benches and open air patio. Service was top notch. The wait staff were friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. Food was good, but a little heavy handed with the sauces and dressings. - Blackened Ahi Tuna - the blackened ahi tuna was very well done and flavorfully seasoned, but it was buried in the sriracha aoili (which seemed to be just srirachi with mayo). The napa cabbage slaw was also good, but it was drowning in the sesame ginger dressing. - Red Posole (Soup of the Day) was outstanding, with lots of pork and hominy and a nicely spicy broth. - Asian Noodle Salad with Salmon was very nicely seasoned and still moist. The yakisoba noodles were perfectly chewy, but again swimming the sesame ginger dressing. - Grilled Shrimp Salad (Special) was the best entree of the evening. Just order the scallop risotto! It was a beautiful dish and all three of us ordered it. Just a great dish and so enjoyed it. We ordered the brussel sprouts which were good but not great. We also split a Caesar salad which was fresh and well prepared. Our server had several tables that were spread out and I would normal consider the service slow but we were in no particular hurry so we did not mind. We were socializing and enjoying a lazy day in Santa Barbara. The restaurant is located in a boutique motel and its construction shows its age. It was squeaky clean and appropriately decorated. For me to write a bad review, isn't my norm. I typically only write good reviews. I have NEVER had such a terrible dining experience. We had two servers, Matt and another young woman and Marisela was the manager on duty. Initially, it started off ok, with the server bringing our drinks and water, then it went downhill. We placed our appetizers of hummus and pita and that took 20+ minutes. We asked for more pitas and were told it would be extra $. We were fine with the extra charge and proceeded to wait 25 minutes for extra pita chips. We placed our order dinner order and it took 30-40 minutes and one of our entrees (steak frites and fries) came out completely cold. Our servers were nowhere to be found and we were constantly being ignored. Finally, we had to go to the main front desk to see who the manager was. The front desk person was the only one with a sense of urgency in looking for the restaurant manager. 20 minutes later, Marisela arrived at our table. She looked bothered to help us and took ZERO responsibility. When we shared with her our food was cold, instead of apologizing, she said, "Did you tell your server?" We all shared how we couldn't find either server and no one was to be found. The night continued to spiral and we left completely dissatisfied. We are locals and absolutely will not be returning. Hadn't been to this iteration of the restaurant at the Leta Hotel so it thought it only right to go give it a try. I've always loved this space both indoor and out so I was quite pleased that the food really measured up. The Caya Kitchen burger is a very good burger. Wagyu beef and cooked a perfect mid-rare with even a bit of crust or blackening/seasoning on the outside it was quite a delight. The bacon jam didn't really show though so maybe get an extra side of that to be sure you have enough because it's a good flavor. The Faroe Bay Salmon was also a quite solid dish, though we didn't get any of the squash. Still the dish was quite flavorful. Finally the pulled pork Mac and cheese was a wonderful. So many flavors going on at once, I would definitely get it again. We dined on a weeknight and the place was about half full. Service was great and overall the prices were reasonable by today's standards. This place is perfect for a quiet evening, even with a group it was quite easy to converse :-) read more

Not too long ago I attended an amazing Yelp event at this restaurant. At that time the restaurant showcased their wonderful foods and drinks! My experience was amazing that I chose to come back to experience this with my husband. Unfortunately my experience was not the same on Thursday during happy hour where I had fond memories of yummy ceviche. The ceviche was so good and not fishy was i originally visited. Chef Luis (sp?) even told us how to properly make ceviche-- unfortunately we didn't experience the same level of taste. The ceviche was so fishy that we sent it back. Too bad as there was great chunks of fish. We also got the chips and salsa. The salsa was good: good smoky flavors. To accompany our meal, we got some happy hour refreshments for 10 dollars each. After this experience, I am not sure if I'm keen to come back when there are so many yummy places to eat in Santa Barbara. My stars are for are great temporary bartender filling in from Ohio! My husband and I accrued some credits during our Leta Goleta stay to use at Caya and we decided to use them on dessert! We looked at the dessert menu online and weren't really excited about anything, but the menu in person was totally different. We got a chocolate fudge cake which is our fave dessert, and salted caramel and vanilla bean gelato to eat with it. Everything was so so rich and delicious. He ordered the Denver omelette with fruit, I got the quiche of the day (spinach and something else. I honestly forget) with potatoes (with micro cilantro-a nice touch). Both dishes arrived hot and nicely plated. He really liked the omelette- nice sized, and the fruit was very fresh. I don't usually order quiche cuz it can be heavy, but this one wasn't! The eggs were like buttah - soft and almost custard-like. There was also a marvy sauce - cheesy and tasty. The waiter was very attentive, water kept full, checked on us. The Ambiance had a Californian feel. It was modern yet minimalist. They had live music outside, but we chose to sit indoor. We still heard the music and it was great. Food was delicious. I had the curry coconut soup. It was very flavorful. I could eat another bowl. Only disappointing thing was that no bread/toast or even crackers were served and when asked, no options was given. Am I the only one the eats bread with soup? Then we followed that with the Hummus Trio. Love this dish. The watermelon radish was a nice addition. The carports were so fresh as if they we just picked from the back year before serving. I would say 2 out of the 3 hummus were great. Specially the chipotle one. Maybe add a little more pita bread. I was pretty excited but nervous when I heard the restaurant at the rebranded Leta Hotel would be re-opening. My friends took a chance and dined there for dinner during Restaurant Week. I was super impressed! The food was delicious, but the service was pretty slow. This was somewhat forgivable since they had a full house. Food took a while to come out, and they never once checked on us for water or anything else. This seems to be a recurring theme at the restaurant. I returned for Mother's Day this past weekend. They were at less than 50% capacity. I made the mistake of ordering the Prime Rib lunch special, which was spelled "Prime Rib Frietes". It came with fries if you couldn't figure it out. This was a disaster. Bland, overcooked, tough. It was advertised as coming with horseradish (cream?), but it didn't. So I had to ask twice to get a side of it. Everything was a struggle - water refills, utensils, extra sauce. The new chef has a killer-sounding menu, and when they can execute it works. When you come here, just make sure you don't order anything too adventurous or possibly challenging to cook properly, and hope you don't have any requests or need any service. read more

We dined here while visiting my daughter at UCSB. It was a pre-birthday celebration and she had picked CAYA. There's so much to say about how lovely our experience was. The restaurant is located inside the Leta Hotel, which is a Hilton tapestry collection property. The overall sophisticated beach Boho vibe was perfectly done, down to the woodie wagon out front. There was also live music on the patio and the bar area was very lively. The menu has a great variety of dishes, I ordered short rib mac & cheese, my son ordered the sliders and Chicken wings, and my daughter had the chicken tacos. We shared a buratta salad, which had the creamiest cheese and with added salt, tasty heirloom tomatoes. The short rib Mac & cheese was amazing, comforting and savory. My son enjoyed his dishes as he was pretty quiet while eating. The bacon on the sliders was really crisp and not an afterthought to the dish. The chicken wings were spiced and cooked well. Lastly, my daughter loved her chicken tacos which had good spice and crunch. Our server Ayla (sp?) was very sweet, checking on us often and since my daughter and I are allergic to nuts, she kept us well informed about the dishes we were interested in and what to avoid. She brought my daughter the cutest apple hand pie with a scoop of McConnell's ice cream and a candle for her birthday. My daughter loved it and said it was delicious! I had high hopes for this place based on Yelp and Google reviews, but I left disappointed. The atmosphere is beautiful--it's located in a hotel, and we were seated quickly outside near the pool. Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to the setting. We arrived at 8:00 PM and didn't get our food until 8:55 PM. There were only six customers total, yet it took 15 minutes just to see our waitress. She seemed a bit out of it, but we didn't think much of it--until we waited another 15 minutes just for the appetizer (the hummus was okay). When the waitress finally returned, she asked, "Are you guys done?" then put her hands on her face and said, "Oh just kidding, you guys ordered food, right?" before walking off without waiting for an answer. After another 10 minutes, the hostess came by and I told her we were still waiting. She said she'd check on it, but another 15 minutes went by. I got up and asked the waitress, who told me, "We got hit with a large pick-up order," and then asked, "Wait, what did you order again?" At that point--nearly 50 minutes in--I went back to the hostess and said, "We've been waiting nearly 50 minutes and still haven't gotten our food or an update from anyone." Her response was, "Do you want to leave then?" I said, "No, I just want our food. Not trying to sound like a Karen, but it's been nearly 50 minutes..." and she replied, "Well, you can leave if you want."
