Jane's is my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara they have the BEST burgers and the BEST fries! They have a lot of different menu options to choose from. I love their Salmon Burger and Jane Burger. The Jane burger comes with fried Gouda cheese and caramelized onions. Their burgers are amazing because they are super flavorful, tender, and not dry at all. Overall I highly recommend Jane's my family and I comes to Santa Barbara just to come to Jane's because their food is soo good! I could not believe how lovely the staff were - every SINGLE one! They took the best care of us. I have never in my life enjoyed wedding food SO MUCH! The food was DELICIOUS!!! We had the salmon, filet mignon, chicken picatta, and a vegetarian option - everything was mouth watering!!!! Super star service all the way - amazing food and a beautiful restaurant. Came to a rehearsal dinner here and it was a good spot! They dedicated the upstairs to our party which made for an intimate dining setting even amongst our large group. There was a set menu with salad and the choice between salmon and filet mignon, and the salmon I ordered was very tasty. I tried some of my mom's filet and it was also very good. The only thing that I thought was disappointing is that it didn't include dessert, but maybe that was an option that our party didn't choose (I didn't do the ordering). The service was super friendly with a great staff, very prompt and friendly. I'd love to come back and try it without the set rehearsal dinner menu so I could try something else as well! read more

Our 2nd (possibly 3rd) visit to Jane restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. We also have eaten at the Jane's at the Marketplace in Goleta numerous times -- it's near UCSB campus. This time we were there for our son's UCSB Master's graduation. Had another excellent meal! Food: Our son got his favorite, Chicken Piccata which he said was delicious. I had the Veal Marsala which was also very good -- maybe the veal could have been tenderized. little bit more but sauce and veggies were fantastic. Husband had the Petrale Sole special which he said was the best fish he has ever eaten (I loved it too). A nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany. Then for dessert we shared the Toffee Semifredo which was so good! Ambiance: It was a little loud when we first arrived (we ate downstairs, there was a rehearsal dinner going on in the upstairs loft area) but that quieted down after about 30 minutes. Service: Always welcoming, the hostess greeted me right away and said she needed a few minutes to get our table setup, no problem. I stop in here once a year when I take my vacation. Never had a problem with them and the food is usually good. This time it wasn't as good as usual. My brother got the salmon on a Cedar plank. . He was very happy with it and the scallop potatoes were perfect. I got the fillet and it was very chewy. I know once in a while that a fillet can be like that. I decided not to say anything and just kept spitting out the pieces I couldn't chew. I've worked in the restaurant industry and I know that this could happen once in a while. I have been to steak houses in the past where this happened before. You can't tell by looking at a filet if it will be chewy or tender until it is cooked and eaten. read more

Me and my boyfriend came here for our three year anniversary dinner. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted. Our waitress was super friendly, kind, and helpful. The ambience was also super cute, clean, and I loved the bouquets of flowers on all the tables! I wish we could have sat upstairs because it looked super cool up there. I ordered the pasta bolognese and my boyfriend ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was delicious, but on the sweeter side so be aware of that if you are looking for something more savory! My pasta was delicious, but could have used a bit more seasonings. The food is on the pricier side as well. Overall though, both dishes were delicious. We had our rehearsal dinner here the night before our wedding and wow did everyone love it! The food was great. Enjoyed that it was a "set" menu but our guest were able to choose from a few dishes. The service was just wonderful. They were able to take care of us, party of 28, very well. We were up in the loft, which was perfect because it was our own space and we might have been a little loud up there. We would def recommend using Jane as a rehearsal dinner spot. We came to eat here to celebrate a birthday. We made a reservation to make sure we secured a spot and listed it as a birthday special occasion. They were very busy because they had a private wedding event upstairs. We were seated at the communal table which I found a bit strange due to us making a reservation and would have preferred an individual table. We also would have loved if they had asked about who's birthday it was or some mention of it due to me listing it in the reservation. Our server was very friendly, but due to them being busy she would take a while to come take our order. I ordered the mahi mahi special which I loved with the sauce and sides. It was very rich in flavor and I enjoyed it all. Their coconut cake was very moist and tasted just like you'd expect! The food was okay, I'd give it about an 8/10. I had the chicken Alfredo and it's was very good. It just lacked some salt and pepper. My family got burgers, and the server didn't ask how well done to cook the meat. My wife is pregnant, so when her burger came out rare we had to ask for it to be cooked more. The server we had was very nice, and did her job well. However, there only seemed to be two servers in the whole place so service was slow and all of the food didn't come out at the same time. Some of our plates went cold waiting, especially when we waited for my wife's burger to be cooked again. Even when we got the burger back, it still wasn't cooked throughly. Overall I give a 3/5 stars. If you're going to charge a decent price everything else needs to make sense too. read more

We came here for a birthday celebration and we were not disappointed! We had a reservation and the table was ready when we arrived. Everyone in our group had something different to eat. My cousin got the swordfish (way too adventurous for me!) and she loved it. I had the chicken piccata, it was yummy and I had plenty of leftovers for another meal. And WOW the desserts were so good. The photos of family and Jane around the restaurant were such a nice touch. I dined with a large group for business last week and reserved the upper deck of the restaurant for our party. We dined from a fixed menu, so this review will reflect those dishes. The food was quite underwhelming; I did have really high hopes! We started off with what I believe was a balsamic salad? Honestly, just packaged lettuce and bell tomatoes doused in balsamic. I couldn't really enjoy it as the balsamic was the only thing I tasted each bite. Salmon was nothing exciting - everyone's potatoes looked and were dressed differently. I do realize our party was massive; I think at this point, the restaurant was just trying to juggle our massive party and the others dining simultaneously, so a bit hectic. I get it. If judging the atmosphere, I'd give 5 stars. I really did enjoy the "home" feeling of this local restaurant; it really felt like those who came in to dine were regulars. Very cozy, very warm, just a nice family restaurant that felt like a big hug. Our server was also great, she juggled us wonderfully. We reserved a downstairs table because my mother in law has a walking disability. Upon arrival, they gave away our table to a larger party, putting us upstairs. So in my 43 years of restaurant experience, this isn't a good start to a dining "experience." I cannot write about service or food, as we're waiting outside for a new table to be put together downstairs, At least the man at the door apologized and is helping (not his fault) Only comment on cedar plank salmon, heard (& saw) the plank was burned on the edges, makes the salmon taste burned,...we have the dish at our place in PB, never burned cedar planks....my opinion My pork was off the charts amazing read more

Jane is a beautiful romantic restaurant. However we've only been there a handful of times as their service is extremely slow. We went there for what we thought would be a nice place to enjoy a Valentine's Day dinner. We had dinner reservations and were seated immediately. The server was extremely nice. But the meal took way too long. It took an hour and 15 minutes just to get our first course which was a cold appetizer of crab and mango. The crab appetizer was excellent. The mango not ripe enough and hard to chew. Another wait for our entree. Unfortunately our steak, prawns and pasta were mediocre tasting with little flavor. Once we received our dessert, excellent chocolate type mousse and coconut cake, we asked for the check right away. I really like this restaurant but it's obvious that their kitchen is suffering in more ways than one. read more

I reserved Jane for an intimate wedding reception on a Friday evening in January 2023. They have a special events booking that requires a $150+tax reservation fee and a contract for a pre-fixed evening meal that requires a 10 person minimum for a $50/person meal (we opted for the $50/per person meal and there's more beyond that) which we selected. We had 7 people at the event and we were able to take 3 meals to-go since we are paying for 10 people so why not. I was in communication with Meagan, who is the special event coordinator, and she answered all my questions and charged me accordingly for the reservation fee. I also added the coconut cake ($110) to my dinner as well as additional specific wine bottles (3 wine bottles total so $125) to my dinner reservation. I appreciated that they were able to reserve the upstairs dining area for our small intimate wedding dinner reception and we did have one committed server on our reservation; however, I didn't really like that other dining patrons were seated in the upstairs balcony area and passed by our special occasion dinner and our server was tending to them as well. I felt like our reservation to the special upstairs area wasn't "enough" and they were able to accommodate more customers upstairs and serve them but honestly, our dinner was almost ~$800 and we were not there the whole 5pm-9pm when reservation to our space was so they could have waited until after we left around after 7pm ish to let other dining customers pass through. I saw that the candles weren't lit for our dinner table but that's fine because the restaurant literally opened at 5pm and that's when my family arrived for the dinner. I also saw that our server (who was phenomenal) asked my family if they wanted something from the wine menu list but it looks like it wasn't communicated to her that we already had the 3 wine bottles reserved in advanced or else she wouldn't have asked my family. We also noticed my mother-in-law got a more rare steak and my sister got a more well done steak and perhaps the orders have gotten mixed up for the doneness of the filet mignon. Just wanted to pointed that out but overall we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Our server did get our wine glasses glasses and cake cutting utensils cleaned during our dinner. Our families and I enjoyed our dinner at Jane. We did appreciate the small intimate space it provided for our post wedding dinner reception, the service and the ambiance. It is best for people who can go up the stairs and I loved that they had 2 bathrooms available in the restaurant. We appreciate the special memories here for our special day :) Thank you! read more

My wife and I came down to Santa Barbara to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find a quaint place to have dinner & finally arrived at "Jane". This restaurant, named after the founding "grandma" and passed down through generations, did not disappoint. Seriously, just go, you will be amazed & love it! Ambiance: When we arrived, they let us choose where to sit. We opted to sit in the second floor balcony at the front of the restaurant. It was so quaint and fun. We could see the street and it was relatively quiet with a table next to the window. The decor around the restaurant is full of artwork and keepsakes that our waitress told us were from all of Grandma Jane's travels around the world. Such a unique view of her life experiences. Food: Okay, we loved it. It was nearly perfect! My wife got the chicken piccata. She frequently gets this when she goes out to eat & she said this is the best she's ever had. It was the perfect level of crisp on the outside with amazing flavor throughout. Paired with scalloped potatoes, this was the perfect blend of flavors and the perfect portion size. The night before she had gotten chicken piccata at another Italian restaurant in SB & this one blew it out of the water. If you like chicken piccata, guaranteed you will love this! I got the Halibut. I was vacillating between salmon and halibut, so I asked our waitress for her opinion--there was no hesitation, she said to get the halibut. I was not 100% sure I would like the orange sauce on it, or the pistachio crust. She assured me it was great. She was not at all wrong. I have traveled around the world and gotten lots of different fish dishes at all sorts of restaurants (from hole in the wall to 5-star). This was among the best, if not the best. The fish was perfectly cooked, the unique flavor mix of orange and strawberry left me wishing I did not finish. Again, the pairing with scalloped potatoes was amazing. To find out that most of the ingredients were locally sourced was also very cool--that would explain the fresh taste throughout. We closed out the evening with dessert (of course). My wife got the chocolate dessert and I got the lemon dessert (don't recall the actual names). Both of them were a good portion and the flavors were again amazing. My wife is a chocolate connoisseur and absolutely loved the rich dark chocolate flavors. I love lemon and appreciated the mix of lemon and berry mixed together. All in, this was an amazing dinner and a great way to celebrate our anniversary. Our waitress was very attentive and answered all of our questions. Home-y Italian restaurant with good food. They were kind enough to let us sit down to dine despite them closing in 15 minutes. We were scrambling to just find a place to eat at that point so we were not planning on taking our time because the last two options we had did not work out for us. I got one of the specials which I believe was cod. The fish was super tender and with the sauce and capers, it was great. The sides were fine. The string beans were a little greasy for my liking but they were a nice crunchy contrast with the fish and potatoes. I had a classic lime margarita which was twice the size I was expecting but I was not complaining. I would say this place was nothing to write home about but it was good and the server treated us well! read more

We visited Santa Barbara a few weeks ago, and this was our first official stop when we arrived. I got a glass of Cabernet and the linguine & clams. Omg it was incredible. I've eaten so much pasta in my life lol and this was hands down THE best pasta dish I've ever had. The dish came with sooo many clams, and they were all so fresh. The noodles were light and herbal and complemented the flavor of the clams. Best 26 bucks I ever spent! I tried a few bites of the chicken piccata as well and thought the chicken was so tender and flavorful; my BF really really liked this dish. This place is a classy but cozy fine-dining spot. Had dinner last night at this quaint place. The entrees were terrific. My wife had the local flatiron halibut which was delicious and I had the grilled Sonoma lamb rack chops and they were finger-licking good. On both platers thinly sliced roasted potatoes and super fresh (likely local) beans and squash - very, very good. The whole menu looked good as well. Very capable place and won't necessarily break your budget unlike other places in SB. I will say the special appetizer was not so great - pancakes with gravy lox salmon, creme fresh and caviar - sounded good, but the presentation was lacking - big slabs of salmon shrouding the pancake, hardly any creme fresh and less so on the caviar. Couldn't taste the Gouda or the aioli. Because we ordered the red rings they eliminated the fries. We ordered the red onion rings which looked delicious, crispy with a balsamic glaze but were mostly the crisp coating and a tad greasy. I would give this restaurant no stars if I could. To start off, my boyfriend and I chose this place for Valentine's Day because they had a bunch of options. Then they changed the menu to be a set on for Vday, which is fine. However, we chose them because I have a seafood allergy and they had the most non seafood options. Special menu comes out. Majority seafood. Barely any allergy friendly options. Then while we're there, people who were sat after us were helped before us and it took our waitress a bit to finally get to us. Then all the tables around us received bread. We did not. My boyfriend had to ask for it. Both of us order the New York steak however they ran out of the New York steak and offered us Filet. Yes we'll take that better cut but why don't you have enough for your specialized menu day. Then, they ran out of the dessert we wanted, resulting in us getting something else. How are you going to run out when you have a set menu? Our waitress was nice enough when she helped us, but we often had another waitress bringing us stuff and checking on us. My final issue was the payment. I tipped what I thought the service deserved. Come to check my card statement and they went ahead and gave themselves a very nice tip. Double what I had tipped. However their menu said gratuity was not included in their set menu price. Therefore it was my choice what to tip. I will be disputing this charge and contacting the restaurant. This is unacceptable and I would not recommend dining with this establishment. read more
