    Fish Special - Petrale Sole
    Kay G.

Our 2nd (possibly 3rd) visit to Jane restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. We also have eaten at the Jane's at the Marketplace in Goleta numerous times -- it's near UCSB campus. This time we were there for our son's UCSB Master's graduation. Had another excellent meal! Food: Our son got his favorite, Chicken Piccata which he said was delicious. I had the Veal Marsala which was also very good -- maybe the veal could have been tenderized. little bit more but sauce and veggies were fantastic. Husband had the Petrale Sole special which he said was the best fish he has ever eaten (I loved it too). A nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany. Then for dessert we shared the Toffee Semifredo which was so good! Ambiance: It was a little loud when we first arrived (we ate downstairs, there was a rehearsal dinner going on in the upstairs loft area) but that quieted down after about 30 minutes. Service: Always welcoming, the hostess greeted me right away and said she needed a few minutes to get our table setup, no problem. Wait staff was also excellent and stopped by often enough to accommodate requests.

Me and my boyfriend came here for our three year anniversary dinner. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted. Our waitress was super friendly, kind, and helpful. The ambience was also super cute, clean, and I loved the bouquets of flowers on all the tables! I wish we could have sat upstairs because it looked super cool up there. I ordered the pasta bolognese and my boyfriend ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was delicious, but on the sweeter side so be aware of that if you are looking for something more savory! My pasta was delicious, but could have used a bit more seasonings. The food is on the pricier side as well. Overall though, both dishes were delicious. I will be back to try the coconut cake as it looks incredible!

Coconut chiffon cake. Wouldn't order again.

Loved the ambiance and how it felt like a local spot. Service was prompt as well. My husband had the fish, which was good but not great. I had the burger, which was disappointing. Not much flavor, especially for being their house burger. The salad they paired it with was good. Had to get the famous coconut chiffon cake. It just didn't have much sweetness or flavor to order again. Looks more delicious than it actually was. Likely wouldn't come back in the future.

My wife and I booked Jane for our wedding dinner and it went amazingly well. We hosted a party of 30 and the space was perfect! The staff were kind, attentive, and extremely communicative. They went above and beyond ensuring our day was stress free and fun. The food was delicious. The standouts in particular were the filet mignon and the chicken piccata! All in all, I can 100% recommend Jane!

We had THE BEST dinner at Jane! One of the top meals we've had in quite some time. From the moment we were seated till the moment we left, everything....especially the food, was top notch. They really have their flavor profiles down, and as you can see by our photos, everything was plated beautifully. Great wine list, and excellent service from our server. Wonderful ambiance as well. Quiet enough for conversation, yet lively enough to feel like a fun, hip spot. We'll definitely be back ASAP!

We came to eat here to celebrate a birthday. We made a reservation to make sure we secured a spot and listed it as a birthday special occasion. They were very busy because they had a private wedding event upstairs. We were seated at the communal table which I found a bit strange due to us making a reservation and would have preferred an individual table. We also would have loved if they had asked about who's birthday it was or some mention of it due to me listing it in the reservation. Our server was very friendly, but due to them being busy she would take a while to come take our order. I ordered the mahi mahi special which I loved with the sauce and sides. It was very rich in flavor and I enjoyed it all. Their coconut cake was very moist and tasted just like you'd expect! My favorite dessert though was the creme brulee I would definitely come back just for that!

Really loved this restaurants vibe and tribute to their family matriarch, Jane - I love local dining and taking in the fascinating stories of each new spot I try. The photos of family and Jane around the restaurant were such a nice touch. I dined with a large group for business last week and reserved the upper deck of the restaurant for our party. We dined from a fixed menu, so this review will reflect those dishes. The food was quite underwhelming; I did have really high hopes! We started off with what I believe was a balsamic salad? Honestly, just packaged lettuce and bell tomatoes doused in balsamic. I couldn't really enjoy it as the balsamic was the only thing I tasted each bite. Salmon was nothing exciting - everyone's potatoes looked and were dressed differently. I do realize our party was massive; I think at this point, the restaurant was just trying to juggle our massive party and the others dining simultaneously, so a bit hectic. I get it. If judging the atmosphere, I'd give 5 stars. I really did enjoy the "home" feeling of this local restaurant; it really felt like those who came in to dine were regulars. Very cozy, very warm, just a nice family restaurant that felt like a big hug. Our server was also great, she juggled us wonderfully. Hope to see a menu revamp in the future, this spot has SO much potential.

Amend my initial review, we waited for our table, but well worth it!!! The server (Brenda) and host (he was fabulous!) made it all good

We reserved a downstairs table because my mother in law has a walking disability. Upon arrival, they gave away our table to a larger party, putting us upstairs. So in my 43 years of restaurant experience, this isn't a good start to a dining "experience." I cannot write about service or food, as we're waiting outside for a new table to be put together downstairs, At least the man at the door apologized and is helping (not his fault) Only comment on cedar plank salmon, heard (& saw) the plank was burned on the edges, makes the salmon taste burned,...we have the dish at our place in PB, never burned cedar planks....my opinion My pork was off the charts amazing

The place was full, including indoor and outdoor seating, great ambience and light level, and lovely string lights above the seating outdoors. To start they bring over a delectable dill popcorn which was a rich, salty, dill and butter creation. Totally set a fun tone for the meal. Then we had the crispy Brussels sprouts (ORDER THESE!!!) they were divine, the sesame and lime combination was reminiscent of a great pad Thai, with the perfect amount of sauce and tiny bites of figs which all worked together in a way I wouldn't have expected. For the mains we had the shrimp toast and the pork ribs, both fantastic both well portioned and both 10/10s. Pork ribs fell off the bone easily and were spicy and tangy without overdoing flavor and the shrimp toast tasted like a great gumbo sauce and the shrimps were big! This is a meal I'll be thinking about and recommending to others for a long time, thank you Lark!

The restaurant was busy. Our server was great. She introduced herself (Giana I believe she said) and helped us understand that the intent of the menu and dining approach is a sharing format. The plates and portion sizes vary depending upon the item. Cocktails: The Lark has a very interesting (in a good way) cocktail menu. Our party tried 5 different cocktails. Everyone loved their drink and commented on how well made they were. Food: The restaurant provides complimentary dill pickle popcorn (10/5) as a snack to get your appetite moving. This unique popcorn flavor was one of the best things I had all night. Everyone in our party agreed. We ordered 40% of the menu. The standouts were the fried chicken (5/5), the duck confit (5/5), and the pork ribs (4/5). Dessert: The chocolate pot-a-crème with banana cream (5/5) and donut holes (5/5) were both very tasty. We had a real good experience at the Lark. My only comment as a first timer was gauging how much food to order. We found the menu items in the Farm and Ranch sections were entree sized plates, while the Ocean section plates varied in size considerably. We consequently over ordered and wasted some food. Although our server Giana was helpful, we could have asked more specific questions to assess the quantity of food better. We enjoyed the restaurant vibe, cocktail program and many of the plates. If I lived in SB, I would have dinner here every other month and enjoy the dill pickle popcorn and the fried chicken with their signature Paloma to wash it all down.

The level of service is that good. Logan & jess Huge credit to Ruben, the owner, and his wife, who created the beautiful decor. The space is stunning -- high ceilings on the main floor and a cozy, chic European bistro feel upstairs, but still airy and comfortable. It's stylish without being stuffy. The food is consistently excellent -- fresh, seasonal, and often sourced from the farmers market, with many organic ingredients. The chantelle mushrooms and risotto were outstanding. First, Finch & Fork is essentially just the restaurant inside the Kimpton Canary Hotel. What I mean is that it's not a restaurant that happens to be inside of hotel property (think Caruso's). It's just where you eat as a hotel guest that is hungry for brunch. We had an 11:00 AM reservation, which I believe was the earliest brunch seating. The hotel lobby was packed and chaotic when we arrived. We checked in and sat down to wait, but while we were waiting, multiple other parties of two who checked in after us were seated first. Not a huge issue on its own, but not a great start. The Mother's Day brunch itself consisted of a buffet plus an entrée selection. The buffet had three main sections: seafood (oysters, shrimp, tuna poke), salads, and miscellaneous bites and desserts like deviled eggs, Italian wedding soup, and macarons. Honestly, the buffet felt more like cocktail hour appetizers at a wedding than a true luxury brunch spread. The entrées were fine. The service was fine. Nothing was bad, but nothing felt memorable or special either. The atmosphere was also extremely loud...noticeably so. What really dropped the rating for me was the value. For two people with no alcohol (just iced tea), the total came out to $264.60. That price was honestly shocking for what was offered. Nothing about the food, service, or atmosphere justified that kind of cost. As we were leaving, we noticed a Photo Booth setup and a bouquet-making station across the lobby. No one had mentioned either of these to us, and the bouquet station appeared unattended, so we weren't even sure whether it was included or an extra charge. Overall, I left feeling disappointed, especially because this was meant to be a special Mother's Day outing for my mom. If you're just looking for a casual hotel brunch/lunch/dinner, it's perfectly fine. But for a holiday brunch at this price point, I expected something much more polished, elevated, and memorable.

If I weren't pregnant we definitely would've wanted to try the ahí crudo but had to skip this time. We were also tempted by the Hope Ranch Mussels but it's just out of season for mussels so decided to skip those as well. We landed on the beet salad and even though I'm not the biggest beet fan, I really enjoyed it! Nice crunch. I always prefer a pungent goat cheese whereas this one was more subtle but still a great compliment to the salad. We got the Ricotta Dumplings. I was a little hesitant to get these but there were so many positive reviews for them we thought we had to give them a go. We were so glad we did! I expected a more Asian-inspired "dumpling" but they're honestly more like an arancini minus the rice. Such an interesting flavor in the sauce. Not huge on sweet desserts (I prefer chocolate or something tart) so I think this would be a one-time order for me but glad I gave it a try. My husband said he'd get again.

Over all these years, I have avoided the Funky Zone for various silly reasons. But for a while now,…read morewhen I visit my friend's auto repair shop downtown, he always gets Turkey Burgers from here. Always looking for places to have solo lunch, I finally ventured to FZ. There's no sign. I drove by several times and parked, determined to find it. It was next to Lama Dog. I ordered at the window from a very friendly and efficient staff member. I found a nice bar-height communal table inside a super cool restored warehouse with awesome indie music jamming, also surrounded by big screens and sporting events. I ordered a bottled Arnold Palmer from the bar, not realizing the bottled drinks are self-serve. Nevertheless, the bartender kindly got it for me along with a glass of ice. Now here's the best part: the very best Turkey Burger I have ever had--way better than any take-out before. It's topped with garlic aioli, avocado, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and crispy skinny onion rings, just perfect. I also ordered the fries with truffle and Parmesan--absolutely delicious, though a bit too flavorful, which overshadowed the turkey burger's flavor. I've tried both sweet and regular potato fries here, and they are excellent too. This place really hits the spot. Can't wait to come back.

Was enough for us to share between two. Creamy and cheesy, but could've used more lobster. Would've expected a better lobster to macaroni ratio with this one. Prices are a little steeper here. It was $25 for the Lobster mac & cheese, which I would've been more open to with a bit more fish in the dish. Plus, when I go to grab a beer, I'm not necessarily wanting to pay $20+ for a burger without fries. That being said, it's still a good spot to grab some food while drinking a beer at Lama Dog.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Elegant-casual with a well-heeled older crowd…read more We wanted a nice dinner while in town and this place looked promising based on the reviews. We'd made reservations and were seated promptly when we arrived. The ambiance was warm and inviting. We noticed that the diners' demographic skewed older, but that was fine with us--it made for a relaxing time. We started things off with some cocktails: I got the Opal martini (gin and vodka, with Gorgonzola stuffed Olive--very good) and the hubby got the house old fashioned (not too sweet, also very good). They brought out a small complimentary bread basket, which had two different kinds of excellent bread. Carb avoidance be damned! We ordered the following: - warm seafood salad (lots of fresh seafood--great) - butter lettuce salad with Gorgonzola (so simple and so delicious) - mushroom risotto (delicious! Cheesy with bits of walnuts and asparagus as well as the shrooms) We thought the prices were reasonable prices for the quality, and the service was excellent. Overall a really great experience; would definitely try again.

The ambiance at Opal was as usual, lovely, but extremely noisy. Not a lot they can do about that,…read morebut be aware if you are a large group that you won't be able to hear each other! And usually, the food is really good at Opal. But not this time! Very disappointing. Due to popular demand, they put the hangar steak back on the menu. I love that dish, so ordered it with great anticipation! But I was sorely disappointed. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare, but that's where the goodness stopped. It was extremely tough with gristle running throughout. The meat itself was flavorless. And, the sauce was something I couldn't even identify! No idea what it was, but it wasn't tasty. The mashed potatoes mentioned they contained horseradish. I love horseradish, so I was excited to try them. Unfortunately, half a bottle of horseradish in 1/2 cup of potatoes just doesn't work! Would have been better to have plain potatoes with a side of horseradish! I have to say the vegetables were nicely prepared, but nothing to write home about. All in all, a disappointing trip to Opal. I hope they make this dish the way t used to be, or cease putting it on the menu. It doesn't work at all the way it is.
