I had a really frustrating experience at CAVA. When I politely asked if I could add an extra topping to my daughter's kids meal (even if it cost extra), the employee acted annoyed, rolled their eyes, and said, "oh um yea I guess." They rushed me through the order like I was bothering them. On top of that, they didn't even slice the avocado -- they just threw a big chunk into the kids meal. It looked messy and showed zero care. My stellar review from a year ago follows. I only ordered a few times. Except for the dressings, I thought I could do better. And my protein choice, falafels, were always soggy. I decided to try it again. Much smaller portions and poor customer service. They ignored me, never welcomed and spoke very quickly and too softly for such a noisy environment. When asked to repeat, they talked even faster. When I asked for extra anything because I didn't get a protein, they seemed annoyed and started talking to staff. I gave up. My husband and I placed an online order for pickup at 5:30. We ordered 2 Harissa Avocado bowls and only had a few modifications- we added garlic dressing to one and switched the cucumbers for tomato & onion on the other. We picked up our food a bit late but even having given them almost 30 minutes, they forgot the pickled red onions and Persian cucumbers on the first bowl. They SKIMPED on the first bowl- because of the missing ingredients, it was barely half full. They forgot the pickled red onions on the second bowl as well. They ALSO forgot the pita on the side that comes with each bowl. When we came to pick up the food, there was a very long line, so I can understand that they were probably in a rush trying to fulfill orders- that, I can let slide. What I CANNOT let slide, however, is that there were little bits of plastic in my bowl. They were small so I ended up chewing on a few before I realized the texture wasn't right and spat them out. I work in a restaurant so I can understand some of the mistakes, like forgetting the free pita on the side. But the bits of plastic and missing some of the main ingredients in the bowls is just a bit too much. Officially never coming here again. I actually really love the food and would honestly come here all the time if the service wasn't so terrible. Tonight I came here with my mom, who is vegetarian. It's already bad enough that Cava has begun to charge extra to add greens to an order with lentils and rice. My mom didn't even get rice, just lentils, but when she asked for both lettuce and arugula the person serving us (Patrick) said he was going to charge her extra for asking for two kinds of greens. That's ridiculous, and no other place is so stingy with something like lettuce. It's the main reason why I rarely ever come here. My mom said "thats dumb" and the food handler flipped out and got angry, insulting us. He claimed his reason for erupting is because she "called him dumb" I explained that she didn't even call him dumb, and then what did he do? He tried to skip me. He went to the next customer, refusing to serve me. I stopped him and demanded to be served. Then I took a picture so I could remember his name for this complaint. He then escalated things further, demanding I delete the picture and creating chaos in front of all the other customers. He walked into the back like he couldn't work under the conditions he was in. As I stated, we're vegetarians, so we planned to get felafel as our protein. There was no felafel and we had to wait almost 20 minutes for fresh felafel to be cooked. So after getting into a big stir with Patrick, we had to stand there in the food line as dozens of customers passed us. I also had to remind them to add the peta bread which is supposed to come with the order. That took another few minutes because they didn't have any ready. Check the cameras if you don't believe what I'm saying. This all happened. I asked for a manager, I was directed to Elijah, who was very nice and spoke to us about the situation as we waited for our meals to be complete. He didn't end up charging us extra for the greens. This place shouldn't enforcing that policy to begin with. If I want rice and lentils, I can't have lettuce in my bowl too? I have to pay extra for that? Okay, I'm going to The Poke Place, or Chipotle, where I get more food for less money and the staff is always cool and polite. This place literally sucks. The rude staff and stingy policies about adding toppings makes it suck. It's too bad because I really like the food. read more

I've had a few people recommend CAVA to me and finally decided to try it! I wish I tried it sooner because it's tasty, hearty, and very filling. There are many options for protein, sauce, veggies, toppings, and more. Definitely the same style of restaurant as Chipotle but with a Mediterranean twist! The harissa and red pepper hummus are delicious and a great pair with their pita. The service was great, very friendly and patient. The cashier accidentally knocked our bowl over (nothing spilled since the lid was secure and the bowl was filled to the brim) and he was very apologetic about it. They also give generous portions and don't skimp on the protein. It is more pricey than Chipotle but one bowl was enough for two meals for me, so I'd call that worth it. Well that was two years ago lol but I can't be mad that they decided to build the first IE location down the street from me!! Cava is so so yummy. I love that they offer lamb. Every time I pass by here, I always see a good amount of people. I finally had a chance to try it. For the base, I ordered Saffron Basmati Rice. It was unfortunate that they ran out of the Spicy Lamb Meatballs, so I opted for Braised Lamb and Harissa Honey Chicken instead, along with Fire-Roasted Corn, Pickled Onions, and Crumbled Feta. For the dips, I chose Tzatziki and Traditional Hummus. Lastly, I finished my order with Garlic Dressing and Balsamic Date Vinaigrette. After mixing everything well, each component complemented the others nicely. The braised lamb was tender and easily shredable with a fork. Its flavor was rich but not overpowering. The chicken was also tender, with a nice spicy kick and a light sweetness from the honey. The chicken was cubed into a perfect bite size as well. I really liked the contrast of flavors from the pickled onions; they kept me eating non-stop. Everything was truly enjoyable. However, I think the portion could be slightly larger given the price. The garlic dressing was a bit light for me I expected a bolder flavor, since the other components were quite rich. All in all, I would definitely come back to try other proteins. Saw someone describe this place at the "Chipotle of Mediterranean Food" and I can't unsee it. It works! It's super easy to download the app, order ahead and pick up your food. It's a nice space with seating indoors and outside. Service is quick and efficient. I tried the Harissa Avocado bowl with chicken, feta, hummus, fire roasted corn, avocado, rice, super greens, cucumbers and tomatoes. There's actually a TON of options for toppings. I have noticed some selections tend to sell out. It's a fun little place to try. Perhaps there's just no way for the single line configuration to work during peak hours, but it really lessens the experience for everyone, customers and employees alike. Sucks to be excited for a healthy lunch out only to see the line stretching to the door, especially when it looks like there are a number of employees bustling around, but just one or two actually assembling orders. Beyond that, there has to be a better cleaner for the tables... Whatever they're using, it's sticky and layered, like you could drag your fingernail across it and have a wad of gunk underneath your fingernail. Whoever is in charge really needs to rethink their career because you can tell these kids aren't getting the proper training needed that upholds Cavas standards.
