I really like cava and I'm super happy it's now 5 minutes from my house. This location opened just a few weeks ago with the opening of the new movie theater at the mall. Everything tastes good but I have two things that's stood out which I think could be improved. The 'assembly line' I guess you would call it could be more smooth and quick. Since it just opened, they could still be getting used to the system, but as of right now, there are the right amount of people at each station so there's a lot of waiting involved even once you get started on your bowl. I hope they work this out soon. Also, I didn't realize that it was pricy before. It was $9-10 for a salad bowl. I guess I was used to chipotle prices. I think if they can make the ordering and dish building process smoother, that would make for a better experience. My fiancee, who is among the pickiest eaters you will ever find, absolutely loves this place... to the point where she's legitimately asked what the franchise fee to open a branch would be, because she loves it so much. That says plenty, in my opinion. Big props to my friend Irene F. for posting a pic of the menu; ordering here can definitely get tricky because of the amount of sauces, dips, and dressings they have (and the inevitable language barrier between you and the person explaining to you what they are). For reference: I usually do the Salad with Supergreens, roasted red pepper hummus (solid), harissa (that ish is LEGIT spicy -- proceed with caution), spicy lamb meatballs (more on this in a sec), tomato + cucumber, diced cucumber, pickled onions, feta, banana peppers, and a lemon wedge. I would very happily grade this bowl at an A/A- in flavor. And for such a bowl, the portions are actually bigger than what you would get at, say, Chipotle (as hard as that may be to imagine). Unless you're silly hungry, it's easily one of those deals where you can eat half, be satisfied, and eat the other half later. And while I'm usually one to get a cup of water as my beverage anywhere I go, I would strongly recommend purchasing a fountain drink and getting one of their signature juice blends. Their carrot-ginger juice is very good, but the Strawberry Lime? Abso-f**king-lutely transcendent. It haunts me that I can't make this at home. The biggest -- and probably only -- reason this place gets 4 stars (instead of 5 stars) from me is the price. Example: my fiancee and I went just a couple of days ago, and ordered their regular salad bowls with the spicy lamb meatballs ($1.50 upcharge), and I got double meat on mine. For said two bowls and one fountain drink, our bill was over $27. I actually checked the receipt because I was sure the cashier overcharged ... she didn't. Apples to Apples, you're going to pay about twice as much money as you would pay if you were to go to Chipotle. Is it worth twice the price? I loooove Cava! It's so delicious and so comforting to know everything I'm eating is fresh and mostly good for me. I just experienced a little bit of a slip up with this location. My coworker and I had ordered online for 7pm and when I showed up around 7:05/7:10 they hadn't started making it yet, and that's really not a big deal just because I understand that in food service it gets busy sometimes - it was just a little stressful because I was trying to rush back to work with the food and had to wait for it to be made. Another reviewer wrote that Cava Mezze is a Mediterranean Chipotle. I beg to differ. Roti is a Mediterranean Chipotle. Roti, which used to be literally steps away from the Montgomery Mall food court, is no more. Yet Cava Mezze lives. Why? Answer: the freshest ingredients. The friendly service. The healthy combinations. The local sourcing. The convenience to the mall, the other food court offerings, and the Arclight cinema. I am not a mall person, I shop at Montgomery Mall maybe once or twice a year, if that. But I do enjoy movies, and Arclight cinema is my current favorite. And when you go to the movies with your significant other, you often want a meal before or after. Thus the Montgomery Mall food court, with its dozens of choices. I am a non-meat eater, I am trying to lose weight, and I prefer to eat healthy when I can. Put it all together and suddenly you are down to only a few choices. The best of those: Cava Mezze Grill. The basics: choose a sandwich, a salad, or many other combinations. On this past dining instance, I had a salad: super greens (kale and other healthy stuff), black lentils, falafel balls, baba ghanoush, harissa, hummus, tomato salsa, sliced kalamata olives, sliced pickled banana peppers, with a lemon tehina dressing. Incredibly good and very healthy. It comes with a small pita bread which I declined (see weight issue above). Like Sweetgreen, they post the names of their local/regional sources of meat and produce. The taste is super fresh and healthy, I felt like I was giving a gift to my body and that I should eat this every day. And they serve beer, in my case a delicious DC Brau IPA (Corruption). I could have gladly downed more of these all evening. OK, so I do make compromises on my weight loss, I never said I was consistent! Back to my original point. This to me is anything but Chipotle. Note the current troubles that Chipotle is having because of their national supply chain. The more you standardize and try to get the same ingredients nationwide and year round, the more energy you consume and the more risk you take for bacteria and other bad stuff to happen. The result: a large carbon footprint and environmental impact, and the bigger the risk of people getting sick. I happen to love Chipotle, but right now I'm staying away. I also happen to love Roti. Their falafel sandwiches are delicious. Neither compares to Cava Mezze. Even in a shopping mall food court. read more

I am a big fan of this place. The food is always fresh and tasty. I like the fact that I can see them preparing the food that comes out into the buckets and that will eventually end up on my plate. My only gripes are with the pita bread and the friendliness of the staff. Sometimes I get a pita bread with my order and sometimes I don't. It's quite the mystery to me how they decide who gets a pita and who doesn't. Lastly, the people working here are mostly friendly, it seems like the cashier is less than happy to provide a cup for water when you ask. I LOVE Cava. It's healthy, it's fresh and it's delicious. I love how many options there are for customization and that their veggies are super fresh. The chicken is amazing and the food really fills you up. Yes it's a little more expensive, but you're not paying for mall food, you're paying for Cava. That means quality ingredients without the grease and MSG of nearby options. I've never tried their juices but would love to in the future! If it were slightly cheaper I'd eat Cava more often. My only complaint is that some of the employees working on the line really skimp on the rice and don't speak much English. As far as mall food court food, this place is top of the line. Admittedly, I only ordered a child's meal for my son because it was the only healthy option for him in the mall. It came with a pita bread, hummus (or any spread of your choice), rice (brown or white), and choice of one topping (I chose tomatoes). My little one used to eat anything but is reaching the picky years and he loved it. He's a very heavy eater for his size and I still got two meals out of it even after I ate some as well. The best part...the plethora of over priced juices. It's almost $3 for a cup which I guess isn't horrible for what they're offering, and they are delicious. Lemonade with the cucumber juice and a very small sprinkle of the lemon lime soda will take you into overpriced drink bliss. I went there two days in a row because my little one got grumpy and needed a snack. I bought the hummus and pita bread and it was over $4 which is also overpriced but it is a hearty, healthy snack and they give you a good amount of hummus. -1 star for outrageous food court prices; but considering the health value of what you can purchase, that's probably unfair. read more

Actually part of what I like about this place may have been due to an accident, as I ordered a rice bowl with meatballs, and I think, judging from the taste, that I was given the "spicy lamb meatballs" instead of the ordinary meatballs. (But I was not charged the extra $1.50 that was supposed to be added for the spicy lamb meatballs.) And they were really good. But in any case, the whole bowl was at least as good as what I've gotten at Mezeh or Roti, the two places most comparable. With all three doing Chipotle-style assembly-line serving of Middle-eastern food, I wonder if there is room for all three companies! But I think this is the best of the three. Like &pizza and (to an extent) MOD Pizza, they have house-made specialty beverages. (I've only tried one, a blueberry soda, but of course I love anything blueberry flavored, so I'm prejudiced.) This makes it a cut above the two competing chains, though Mezeh at least has the mega-variety soda machines that are sprouting all over. (But Mezeh does not let you refill at will!) This location is located inside the Westfield Montgomery Mall in the food court. Service was great and food was delicious! I suggest the Pita with 1/2 chicken 1/2 braised beef with Harissa Sauce, Tzatiki Sauce, and Spicy Gouda Cheese. With all toppings! They'll make the pita as big or little as you please. However, the more toppings you get (I get everything and a lot of it) the more messy it is when you eat it. I suggest coming when you're hungry and need a quick bite to eat. I'm borderline obsessed with this place. I work near here so I go for lunch all the time. Highly recommend the pita loaded with everything you like. My boyfriend had the rice bowl once and wasn't impressed. However, I do have one complaint - the way they wrap the pita takes whatever sauces I put on it all off the actual food and gets it all over the wrapper. I may be dramatic, but it kind of ruins my experience. These days, I ask for the pita in a bowl and then worry about wrapping it myself when it's time to eat. Also, the drinks are fantastic. The options are relatively good and not nearly as heavy as some other places. The Tzatziki was very good and the Harissa was excellent. Just enough spice I also like the shaved super greens with the brown rice, kale, Brussels and chard. Simple tasty food that you can make a healthy meal out of. Be careful with all the add ins and don't go crazy as you can reach a significant caloric intake with this meal if you are managing calories. I eat here about 3-4 a week so therefore I have the app for rewards on my phone, however today I don't know what had happen but I got kicked/logged from the app, must be the wifi connection or some sort. However i was able to log back in no time, but had to enter all my info such as my credit card number, birth date etc, but after putting in my credit card info, I received and error message saying that the card associated is a duplicate an they had to out a block on my account. This business has good food but seriously needs to work on their customer service. I visited this restaurant for the second time, so the menu offerings were still a little confusing; however I was able to stumble through the selections. We were ordering for ourselves and our family members at home, but the staff member prematurely started taking the orders for the guests behind me before I could get my entire order in. Given their assembly line set up, this resulted in our order being confused and grouped with the next person's. No big deal -- but she didn't give me the basic courtesy of waiting to see if there was anything else before she started asking the next person what they wanted. I guess she decided that two items were enough! Later down the assembly line, one of the guests behind me made a comment to the server about how much food we had ordered (4 entree's and a side pita). The comment was made in a derogatory manner and with a chuckle. The staff member said, 'you weren't lying!'. Both of these comments were made under their breaths and followed by laughter. It seemed mean-spirited and was offensive. I informed the staff member (Giselle) that I felt that their comments were rude and informed her that they should be happy when their customers order a lot of food instead of making fun of them. I could eat here for every meal and be perfectly content. Ordering is fairly simply; similar to Chipotle. So you pick a base, select up to 3 spreads, select a protein, and as many toppings as you would like! I don't normally add any dressing because the spread acts like dressing AND there's already so many flavors but you can if you would like. I also get a base of a salad or greens + grains. And Harissa, roasted red pepper hummus, and crazy feta. I personally love the spicy lamb meatball. Depending on where you go, they can be really stingy about it. But the grilled chicken/meatball are just as good. I love that I can pay with the app, collect rewards, and free birthday meal. read more

I am 100% addicted to their super greens salad. I'd eat it every day...twice a day...(if I could afford it). There are so many things to love about this local chain, from their commitment to compostable wares to their delicious food. There is only one thing that falls short here for me. I really can't eat the pita for some reason. It's a beautiful, fluffy consistency but there's a smell to it that reminds of me of chlorine.
