I think the establishment has gone through some management changes... if this isn't the case then I am seriously worried about its future. I have visited this place on several occasions throughout the years; however, this time around I had a horrible experience. Their waiters kept pushing the liquor on us, and their drinks were really expensive. I mean, $8.00 for half size blended margarita is ridiculous and it didn't even taste like they put liquor into it. Our waitress was very inefficient didn't know who had ordered what. The bartenders were not communicating with the waiters and when they brought us the bill we all had jumbled orders with mismatched items from other members of our party. The food also was mediocre at best, it tasted bland and the portions were small compared to the price. I decided to address some issue with the manager of the steakhouse and she seemed not to care about our feedback or provide adequate resolution. She also kept making excuses for the staff and trying to justify their behavior. No ownership was taken here... I'm done with this place. Okay, so we waited, oh, I dunno, 6 or 10 months and decided... lets try again! I got a note after the last review to call the manager, but I resisted that... I don't 'want anything' I just want places to be good because THEY want to be good. So, we go, (I made a reservation) we got there and, surprise, NO WAITING! YAY! Not crowded on a saturday night! So, the hostess takes us to our booth right next to a table with a party of, oh say 20 people (5 of which were screaming kids who despite a father repeatedly saying, "now BRODIE, one more time and NO DESSERT!" Just incredibly poorly behaved parents. But, this is NOT the fault of the Cattlemen's folks, it was a huge group. Where I DO fault them is that they could see that we were a pair, a couple, probably trying to get away from kids... and there we were. As it was, we had two different wait staff come by and apologize for the delay and a promise to "bring bread real soon." Finally, one waitperson arrived with bread and took drink orders... She had to lean in because of the noise. A few minutes later, another wait person came and brought bread. She noticed we had bread and asked, "you didn't have bread a few minutes ago, did you get bread?" why yes, we did we responded. Then the first waitperson returned and the two waitfolks began a passive aggressive argument over who was covering our table. Once it was decided, the second waitress eyed the bread and was much worried that we had too much bread. We kind of laughed as it was awkward and ridiculous, just DON'T argue in front of the guests and if you leave bread twice, so be it. We get our drinks and even with the restaurant with no wait, the service was slow, I believe it had to do with our waitperson ALSO waiting the party of 20... we did finally get our food. It was okay, not super memorable, she had a filet and I had a new york, twice baked and sweet potato... we decided against dessert because it was so loud, we just needed a noise break... Hey, it is a family place, I get that. But, if we go again (not sure about this) either we'll go with a slew of screaming infants and our less able parent friends or sit in the bar where there would be no kids when we are trying to get a night out without kids. The wait staff kind of reminded me of going to a high school FFA dinner where the kids serve you... they are sweet, but have had zero training in guest services and seem to feel powerless as to what to do.... the service just kind of happens. The food is pretty good here, the prices are too high for the level of service and the consideration. Oh well. A disappointment, but there are other places that get the concept of how to serve folks who are spending money. Off to Bravo Farms or Kingsburg! I'll up it to 2 stars this trip... why not? read more

I'm finally done with Cattlemen's. I grew up in Selma and have many memories of coming to Cattlemen's with my parents. Those memories were great but the current ones not so much. Cattlemen's always had good food and was a gem in Selma. I think over the last six years the food and service has gone down. This last visit had to be one of worst, I thought i was being Punk'd. To be clear, this review is regarding the bar dinning area. My first complaint is what happen to the Bar Menu / Specials???? It's now only for a couple of hours and not the greatest. The new bar menu / specials are great if you don't work during the day. So here we go, my last visit at Cattlemen's. We have a seat an one of the larger round high tables. We tell our waiter, Ricky, that we would be eating dinner in the bar. So we order drinks and are brought a menu. We order an appetizer of hot wings and our beers. The hot wings come out to our table, but he have no napkins or plates. I ask the waiter for napkins and he points to the small paper napkins that drinks are placed on and says "napkins". I guess that's my fault, I clarified and asked for the large napkins meant for your hands and some plates. He returns with napkins and small bread plates. We eat our wings and drink our large beers. I finish my large beer and we finish our wings but the waiter still hasn't come to take our dinner order. When i get the chance, I order another beer, Coors Light, as we continue to wait. The waiter comes and brings me a Shock Top. I tell him I didn't order a Shock Top but a Coors light. He gave the beer to my buddy and later returns with a Coors Light. The Coors Light is 3/4 full and the rest is foam, and he gives that beer to my buddy too. Who wants a beer filled with foam when you are paying a good price for it. So we get to order and get the huge 3/4 lb Motherload Cheeseburger. The waiter leaves the menus with us and after what seemed like forever brings the food. Burger was dry and the fries were cold. Plus to my surprise he also brought out mashed potatoes and a baked potato... which we didn't order or want. We never got bread or salad. My buddy asks about the salad which the waiter brings out with ranch, he never asked what kind of dressing we wanted. The salad looked nice and was in a large metal bowl. We ask the waiter for a plate or bowl so we could serve our salad. The waiter asks if we want a to go box for the salad. Again this must have been our fault, we clarified that we would like plates to serve our salad in while we were eating our dinner because we never got anything except the small bread plate. Cattlemen's is a local chain of steakhouses in Northern and Central California. Driving back on 99, I saw a sign for one of their restaurants and decided to stop for dinner. It had been at least 10 years since I visited one, so I didn't have much of a frame of reference. When a restaurant has a giant wagon wheel on its door, you know what you're in for once you step inside. This Cattlemen's is as large as the Harris Steakhouse on I-5, but with a more casual, Western atmosphere. I could have waited for a table, but it made more sense to eat at the bar. I ordered a petit sirloin, substituing a side of roasted potatoes for the baked potato. All steaks come with a green salad and a miniature loaf of sourdough. The salad reminded me of what I would make when I helped my Mom in the kitchen as a kid, but I'm not much for fancy salads anyways. The sourdough was better than I thought it would be, with a little bit of tang. When my steak arrived, it came with the side of potatoes and a small bowl of "ranch style" baked beans. You get unlimited refills on the beans. I'm not sure why, and I'm sure the wait staff is tired of those kinds of questions anyways. My steak was disappointing. It was cooked medium rare, but I don't think the meat was of a high enough quality compared to the steak I've had in San Francisco. I know it's supposed to come from Harris Ranch, but I wasn't impressed. A good steak almost melts in your mouth. A bad one chews like bubblegum. This was much closer to the latter. I'm just so....confused. We sat in the bar because there was a 30-min wait for the dining room. We started off with a drink and then ordered the small plate of loaded potato skins from our girl server. A few minutes later, a guy came over and asked if we were ready to order. I kind of said "ummmm...?" and he said "oh your server had to go home." (ok, I totally get it...there must've been some sort of emergency at home or maybe she got sick. I was a server for many years, so no big deal that our server changed mid-meal). After we ordered our entrees, I mentioned to our new guy server that I wasn't sure if he knew we had ordered the potato skins from our girl server. He said he did know. Ok, sweet. We received our salads. I got the caesar because I didn't want any of the dressings they had. The dressing was a little heavy on my salad. We finished our salads and I figured our potato skins should be coming out shortly. Our guy server stopped by to tell us he was going to go check on our entrees. At this point, I didn't want the potato skins, so I didn't mention it. I wanted to see if he would, at some point, realize they never came out. He never did. A few bites into our meal, our original girl server walks up to the table and announces that she's back from break and asks how our meals are. I'm sorry, whaaaaaat?! I thought she went home? It would've been nice if she would've told us she was going on a break and someone was going to take over while she was on break. Or if guy server would've said she was on break instead of that she went home. And there's no way she worked a double shift since they're only open for dinner. Our bill had the potato skins on it, and we had to ask her to take them off since we never got them. But she didn't know that because she went home / went on break / I don't know what happened. FOOD POISONING!!! If I could give negative stars, I would. I have been here many times and have never gotten sick until recently. On 7/10/16 (edit: I could have sworn the 11th was Sunday. My mistake. We were there on Sunday, so it was the 10th) my husband and I went for dinner, and I should have known it was a bad omen when we sat down and the salad plates that were already set on the table had flecks of dirt in it. The waitress, who had not so great service anyway, excused them away and got us fresh ones. Thankfully my husband didn't get sick, but unfortunately I did. Went here on Wednesday for our anniversary. Didn't think I'd need a reservation for a Wednesday but it was pretty busy. They still got us a table in about 20 minutes so not bad. Service was great. Staff was friendly. My wife and I both got rib eyes. I got the 20oz bone in and she got the 14oz. I requested medium rare and she requested medium. Both were seasoned perfectly but were undercooked. Mine was red and cool in the center and even had pink on the outside of the steak. Hers was medium rare. We ate then anyways because we don't like sending food back. Go here every time we go to Hanford and have never been disappointed. Went again this past Saturday with a party of 9 and forgot to make reservations. We called on our way to the restaurant and were told we might have a 2 hour wait. That never happened, they accommodated us in the lounge and were just as comfortable there and the wait staff was wonderful. Ask for Lea/Leah if you go. Made our night even better, she was wonderful. I'm a vegetarian and I went here to meet my two friends for dinner. Surprisingly, it was great! For starters, the bread is excellent. Soft and fresh. I've only been here twice before. The other times. Good. Today. Not so much. For starters, I asked for a water to quench my thirst. Typical tap water. It actually tasted like toilet water. So I decided to order a Jack and coke. Many minutes later when it arrived, it had some kind of floaty in it. I immediately went to the bar (we sat at the bar area) and notified the bar tender. The waiter apologized and offered a new steak. Asked to put mine on a plate so I can eat my loaded mashed potatoes and shrimp in the meantime. In the process of enjoying my other food, I found a long hair in my potato. That was the last straw. I asked for manager. When he arrived I made him aware of my steak (which was in the process of being cooked, AGAIN) and how I got "asco" (spanish definition of disgust) and wasn't looking forward to my steak anymore. He ageeed and said he would take care of it. And offered to change my order. But I was so disgusted that I didn't want anything else for the rest of the night. When my check came, they tried to charge me extra for the chese and bacon for my potato. I had to ask to get that removed from the bill. How are you going trying to charge me for extra on the food that ruined my dinner for the night? I appreciate the manager trying to fix my meal issue. I am a huge fan of this place! The decor is a rustic western theme. We went during the week of Valentine's day but luckily we made reservations as it was quite busy. The menu consists of very large portions mainly catering to beef eaters. Some stand outs to us were the 14oz Rib Eye, 2 lb Porterhouse, and Baby Back Pork Ribs. We had the Pete's Special and the half rack of Baby Back Ribs. Both entrees come with unlimited bread, salad, ranch-style beans, and a baked potato, rice, or mashed potatos. The Pete'e Special is a Top Sirloin and all of the fixings. The real kicker is that Pete's Special comes with an alcoholic beverage (you heard right). My fiance got a glass of wine free with the special which is fairly priced at $16.99. The ribs were pretty good and a half rack is 7 bones which is a great serving size. The baked potatos and beans were simply amazing and the salad was a simply fresh salad served family style. The only issue we had is that we ordered the Top Sirloin to be medium rare because we enjoy tasting the meat and any good cut of meat is supposed to be cooked on the rare side. The cut of meat came well done on the ends and medium throughout. There was little to no pink at all in the meat so I decided to speak up. The server was very apologitic and said that she would get the Chef Manager to make up a new one. About 7 minutes later a new Top Sirloin was personally delivered by the Chef Manager and he apologized profusly for the mess up. He said to let him know if it's still not right. The second steak was a perfect medium rare and very juicy inside. We were very happy we spoke up because that first steak was way to over-cooked for our likings. First time being here. I heard so many good things about this place that we finally had to tried it. Salad was fresh and the ranch dressing was pretty good. I ordered the NY steak-medium rare with shrimp; the steak was a little salty for my taste and it was cold. My wife ordered steak-rare with king crab legs, she enjoyed the flavor of her steak and the way it was prepared but it was also cold. She said her king crab legs were the worse she ever had. This place is so overrated. The only reason I rate this place three stars was because they have great customer service! Went to Our Company Dinner Party Tonight here at Cattlemens and the Service was Aweful. 2 Servers for a Group of 40 people. We had to ask 4 times to get OUR glass of Water filled up. The food came at out tables at so many different times and my Order came way after everyone else at my table had already eaten their dinner. It was under Cooked and my husband never got hid Shrimp with his Dinner Order. My steak had to be taken back to cook correctly and by the time it came back. The other server was asking to clean the other people plates off the table. My sides were rice pilaf and Vegetables it was AWEFUL and Cold. Went there for dinner tonight since I was stuck in downtown Fresno....Selma didn't seem so far away. Since they are rarely on a menu I ordered the beef ribs and got a rack of 7 for $20. Felt like a good deal until I walked out and saw that if you ordered at the bar the ribs were $2 each. Before the feelings of being ripped off had kicked in, I had already decided that the beef ribs here were mediocre at best. The bbq sauce just didnt seem to match nor bring out the flavor at all. My wife ordered the jumbo shrimp and was raving about the bacon wrapped ones. I scammed one off of her plate and it tasted good, but nothing to get that excited about. Our server was Adriana and she did very well keeping the drinks filled as i dusted four glasses during dinner. I live out of town, but decided to try this place out when I was nearby. I thought it was all a HYPE only, but it's worth it. Spent about $60 for two person, but that's worth it! Had enough left over for lunch the next day. We were told it would be about 30 minute wait, but it was only about 20 minutes wait. While we waited they had menu at the front desk and we decided to look at it. Figured out what we wanted. Sat down and when the waitress came to order our drink we ordered up front. Fast and easy. I like that. Bought the half beef ribs and The Sheriff. Totally worth it. Very tasty! Pros: unlimited salad/biscuit/bean soup. Fast service if you do what I did and order right away. Waiters came around 2-3x to check on us/refill water. Overall, this was a great first time experience. If I ever go out of town again and drive pass Selma I'll probably stop by this place to grub. My husband suggested Cattleman's last night because I was in the mood for steak. When we arrived (on a Thursday night) we were told a 40 minute wait which seemed odd as there were maybe 2 others in front of us & the restaurant didn't seem overly busy. The meals here are large with delicious salad and crusty sourdough bread, and usually so good! We declined on the cocktails & appetizers. I ordered their Thursday special, 14oz NY w/ skewer of shrimp. My hub was excited to see King Crab as an add-on and ordered a ribeye w/ the crab legs. I ordered King Crab, as well. I read another review which warned to have your server read the order back to you. I should've listened. I ended up w/ my NY, shrimp & Mac-n-Cheese. I guess its called a "kids crock" which maybe sounded like King Crab? Anyhoo, Ray offered to rush crab legs. I declined..there was enough food w/ my mushrooms on the side, salad etc. Husband didn't get crab-cracking tools or fork w/ the crab legs so we waited about 10 mins while server hunted some down. My steak was perfect. His steak was perfect. Baked potato was hard. Ask for extra sour cream up front so you aren't sitting & waiting for an additional tablespoon of moisture for your hard potato. Overall, food was OK. Crab was a bit fishy (&cold once cracker arrived so we were able to eat it) Steaks were great but when you're paying $100 for 2 people for dinner, details matter. It sucks to sit & wait while your food gets cold for everything you need to enjoy your meal. I guess I was semi-disappointed at the experience as a whole. I wanted a great dinner.
