Man, do I wish this was my local hardware store…read more It's less than a mile away, and in most places that would be super local, but here in Brooklyn I've got two or three closer. Those shops wish they were Mazzone though. If I have the time (which I rarely do), I would much rather come down here. The folks behind the counter are friendly, knowledgeable, and they've always got everything I need. The prices are reasonable as well. It's just a little too far for me to walk for just a lightbulb or a screw that I need, but for larger purchases, or if I have actual questions, I find it's worth it. One thing that I like getting from them is my Christmas tree every year. They've always got a great selection, and I'd rather spend my money locally than with the Home Depot, the Whole Foods, or even the dudes on the street who trek down from Canada or wherever. Here the service is better and friendlier; the trees are great, they will saw the end off it (necessary for drinking the water up), and help me strap it to my car if it's too big to fit inside (or if I'm trying not to get needles everywhere). Anyway, Christmas is over for the year, but Mazzone is forever.

I'm moving…read moreout next week and am busily spackling and repainting, but unfortunately I didn't save any of the paint I used to paint the walls when I moved in. I also didn't remember what brand or shade I bought, but I did have a little painted sample on a piece of paper that I used to match other stuff I bought for the room. I took the paper to them and we matched it to a shade of paint. After the guy there mixed the paint up, we realized it was a full shade too dark due to a computer or mixing mistake, so he mixed up another pint for me. It seemed like a perfect match so I took it home, but realized when I got there that it was too light. The next morning, I took it back and we added some more blue, and he even gave me a little bottle cap full of the dark blue mix so I could add more myself in case it was still too light. He also helped me get a few other cheap things I needed, like sand paper and a brush. They're so nice here, and I'm really glad the hardware store across the street happened to be closed! Otherwise I would never have come in. They accept credit cards but they have to charge tax if you use a card, so take cash if possible.
