I am a deep lover of Napoleon (Mille-feuille). I like it with crispy but not hard phyllo layers, mixed with cream. It has always been my favorite dessert. Mille-feuille is so flaky that it often makes me choke. Cathy's Bakery has a cake called crispy sponge cake, which is two slices of sponge cake with several layers of phyllo in the middle. The dry, flaky layers wrapped with moist sponge cake create a crunchy and crispy texture but won't make you choke. I have never visited Cathy's Bakery, and I didn't even know where it was until I checked Google Maps. The cakes were brought by my daughter's friend to my home on New Year's Day. We ate the cake while playing mahjong. It was sweet, but not too sweet. As a Chinese person, when we describe a cake or dessert, the best is "sweet but not too sweet", which means below average in sweetness is good. By the way, remember to eat them as quickly as possible. Once you leave them overnight, the crispy phyllo in the middle will become soft, and the whole cake will be a waste. Anyway, I never visited the bakery, but my daughter's friend brought us a box of 32 pieces of very tasty crispy sponge cake. It had a very good texture. We didn't finish them all, and it was still edible the second day. But by the third day, the phyllo became chewy, and I didn't want to have it anymore. Still, it's a good cake. I recommend it, but don't buy too much.

Decent bakery with a limited selection. This location is cash-only, so make sure to bring some. It's smaller than their other locations. I came to pick up a few hotdog buns--they tasted good. Nothing spectacular, but still good. Overall, a decent spot to pickup pastries.

Fruit tarts. Simple and tasty.

We often forget to post good and rave about the places we take for granted. This is one of them. The fruit tarts are so tasty and well made. So are their Napoleon crunch cakes. Great service and communication with the staff as well. Thank you for making my son's birthday special each year!

Cash only but no sign posted. Limited options of bread -- and it was 1pm on a Tuesday. Rude service and hard to find parking. Cherry on top, the bread is just okay nothing special.

This is my go to place for Crispy Cakes! I ordered the same day (quarter sheet) for a birthday celebration and Cathy's Bakery came through! The filo dough was crunchy and cake was moist! The cake was already all decorated before I came for pick up. I think it was $38. Extremely reasonable! You have to tell them you want it with cream, otherwise, it will be bare with only the cake and filo dough. Cash only.

We've been ordering from Cathy's for two years now and they're one of the only remaining bakeries that does the crispy layers cake (see photo). In Canto, it's pronounced Chui Pei Dan Goh. Still very reasonably priced.

Ordered the taro, pudding spong cake with crispy pastry layers. The spring cake was moist and fluffy. Taro paste was smooth. Pudding was light and soft. Also it fits the Asian definition of good deserts: not very sweet!

I've been getting cakes here since I was a little girl and it's always a hit. We usually just add decorations ourselves. No frill kinda place. Cash only. The mango one is our go to. It's got sliced mango on the inside and out. Not too sweet. We've never tried chocolate cake with taro before, I think there was a mix up with the order but it was still yum.

Strawberry classic cake

I always pass by this bakery and read a post on SGV Eats about strawberry cream cakes. On a Saturday afternoon in June, my sister and I went inside. The guys behind the counter greeted us as we walked in. One spoke English and other guy speaks Mandarin. I bought to 2 sponge cakes and strawberry cake with free writing and candles. The 8 inch was delicious and moist. The height of the cake is not tall but still good cake with plenty of flowers on top. Not much whipped cream with the strawberry pieces as the filling. I enjoyed the slice and whole family enjoyed it too.

The cheapest and simplest one is the Portuguese egg tart and the more fancy ones are either $1.75 or $2. I tried all of them: Portuguese egg tart, cheese tart, caramel croissant tart, tiramisu tart, berry tart, and coconut tart (my favorite). We also got the salted egg yolk croissant for only $1 which is a steal although I wish it was a tad bit sweeter to balance out the salt. It was a smooth process to go in and buy. They also have a variety of specialty desserts that are in the $8 price range if you want something more extravagant. I tried the King Panda which was filled with cream cheese mousse. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but more of the latter. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty packed but we managed to snag a seat.

They are decent as well. It is the main lure. The cute cakes are "Asian cute", like you would know this is from a Chinese bakery kind of vibe. IMO they are overprice / maybe overrated and I think they only appeal to people who like these kind of cute stuff or maybe kids. otherwise I would pass on these overpriced themed cakes. The service is decent. The store seems clean. On the weekends, there probably would be lines but on weekdays they are less busy. I personally would not choose to wait in long lines for this. There is nothing extraordinary really. I'll come back for the egg tarts if I am in the area and perhaps try their coffee next time. Good luck people :)

Price ranged from $2.75-$3.75 per bread. Small and cozy interior. Very warm for some reason but we didn't mind since it's winter. It was pretty quiet. I think folks tend to go to bakeries earlier in the day for more selection and fresher bread. They have a good mix of classic and interesting new breads like rose bread (not depicted), but a lot of them were sold out. We ate the bread the next day and it still tasted very fresh. My favorite was the matcha bread with yogurt filling. The taro bun had real bits of taro in the center. Wish there was a little more though. All the breads were good in flavor, not too salty and or sweet. They also have some deals when you buy a certain amount of certain items. Shared parking lot since it's situated in a plaza.

Ordered two cakes for 30 people which turned out to be more than enough. The crispy cake used to be packaged in a pink box (like the donut shoes) but now comes in a fancier white box with gold labeling of the store name. Stamp card available! 1 stamp for every $15 spent. Collecting 10 stamps earns $15 off next visit. FYI - We were asked to pay via phone for the cakes. Parking situation in this plaza is awful during peak times on the weekends. Not only are the spots a little compact, there are also just a constant flow of cars with the market and other eateries.
