Local spot I've paid a visit to more times than I can remember. My favorite items would probably be their pineapple buns, red bean buns, hot dog buns, and the pork floss buns. They've been around since 2001, and that longevity shows. The business is set up in a way where if you visit early, there are trays upon trays of freshly baked buns and rolls on roller racks still steaming hot from the oven. Their daily opening hours from 7am to 7pm is understatedly convenient, as it allows customers to get their breakfast items early or stop by after work to pick up a birthday cake for the evening, all with enough wiggle room. Recently, I made an advanced purchase of small-sized pineapple buns for a work gathering. Currently the going price is 2 for $2.15. I also ordered some with char siu filling which were 2 for $3. Helps to banter in Chinese here and extra points if you speak Toishanese, as it turned out one of my colleagues knows the folks here. To serve, I brought a stick of butter for the regular ones as well as an air fryer, and the buns were a hit! I've been coming to this bakery since I was a child and have always trusted them for special occasions, including birthday cakes. Unfortunately, my experience yesterday has completely changed my perception. When I walked in around 6-7:30PM, within seconds, an employee (an older woman wearing pink) began speaking about me in Cantonese, assuming I wouldn't understand. In less than a minute, she and others behind the counter were making inappropriate and judgmental comments about my appearance, including remarks about my clothing and body(my boobs? Really?!! Inappropriate). This is HARASSMENT. This behavior was extremely unprofessional and made me feel very uncomfortable and disrespected. No customer should feel judged or spoken about in this way, regardless of the language being used. I'm deeply disappointed, especially given my long history with this bakery. First time stepping inside this Domies Bakery in Rosemead. Funny, I thought they were located at the corner of plaza, but they are actually next door to Yoshinoya. Wow, they have a grand selection of sweet and savory pastries, wifey cakes, sponge cakes, breads, standard whole cakes, standard slice cakes, whole ice cream cakes, and so much more. My eyes couldn't stop widening. I was in awe and very intrigued by its selections. Lady staff was nice and pleasant. She was very helpful in answering my questions in Cantonese. As I was walking out of the bakery, I noticed clear containers and containers of sponge cakes on the counter. I had to get one container to confirm the hype LOL. It comes with 5 sponge cakes for $7.00 which I thought was very reasonable considering one sponge cake could cost $2 to $3 each at other bakeries. Here's my take on the goods... - Durian pastry had a nice egg yolk inside. However, overall it was just okay. Didn't give any wow factor IMHO. - Black sesame pastry had a thick filling of black sesame which I love, but I didn't care for the outside dry flaky part that surrounds the filling. - Coconut pastry was good... custard was not too sweet just the way I like it. - Sponge cakes were the B*MB! This bakery is located within the plaza of Big Savers and it should plenty of parking. It might be busy at times. The inside is a bit cluttered but of mostly baked goods. There's both pastries you can grab yourself and some you ask the staff for. They do have cakes you can ask for. There is a $10 minimum payment for card. The staff were nice. I went to buy the crispy cake from Domie's and it is the best! I bought a half sheet for $48, which was pretty big. It's good for big parties and maybe enough for 50 people or more. The cake is soft and moist, while the inner layer has crispy flakes with cream. it's delicious! While I loved the cake, I felt the pastries like the hot dog bread and taro breads were just ok. Officially my favorite Asian bakery!!! If you love taro, you can't go wrong with any of their taro pastries!! I managed to score a warm freshly baked taro toast loaf. It was so warm they couldn't slice the bread yet which was fine with me cuz I like my toast slices on the thicker side! OMG was the milk bread so fluffy yet bouncy and moist! The taro itself wasn't evenly spread on the bread though so the center deflated quite a bit. I would go back just for this bread none the less cuz damn was it good!!! My cousin's also going out they are a supplier of milk breads to many of the Asian restaurants in the area too! Damn... Totally dreaming of their milk breads hahaha BBQ boa is also one of the best I've had. Way better than Jim's bakery. You get actual meat not just fat and gelatin. They also offer fruit tarts in 3 sizes. That's on my list to try next time. As a longtime customer of Domies Bakery no matter the occasion or if it was someone's birthday their cakes are delicious but this is the first time I've ever had to experience mold in the cheese toast I enjoyed eating. Let alone they should improve their temperature in the bakery and the atmosphere of it. No customer should ever have to experience mold in their favorite pastry of choice if the bakery practices sanitation in the bakery and in the pastries and cakes. Great bakery, they make all my HK favorites, from Pineapple Bun to Mooncake. For them to make Mooncake in house, that's a massive undertaken, because it takes considerable time to prep and make them. We had an event at Live Oak and had some of their pastries, and it was excellent. The Pineapple Bun was soft and crispy outside, with the perfect blend of pineapple crust. The crust did not fall off like others, not too sweet either. The crispy cake was also excellent, the philo crispy sheets between the sponge cake was perfect, not soggy like others, matched with a good balance of creme, it was just delicious. Celebrated a bday in this area and needed a last min cake. Yelp brought me to the closest bakery which happened to be domies! Honestly from the reviews, I wasn't expecting much... however, the quality of the cake was really good! I spent about $40 on the mango cake and it came with a lot of fresh and sweet mango on top of the cake. The cake itself was moist. If you compare it to the Cathy's bakery cake (in the pic), it's a lot bigger and tasted a lot better (although a tad more expensive). I was intrigued to find that they have durian, pandan, and ube flavors here!! Will definitely try the other types of cakes when I'm in the area. I thought I heard her say the cake was $4.35, but when I paid, she gave me my dime back and said the slice of mango cake was $4.25. The worst bakery I've patroned at. The quality result per what was displayed is false. The special birthday bao half of them were cracked. Ordered 30 pcs and half was cracked. I called to address it then the lady says we do not know why it cracks. I told her if I had known then i would not order. She said all the orders are like this. Refer to the photo. I came in to grab a moon cake for the autumn festival holiday. I was looking for a place that sold mooncakes individually as I'm the only one eating it. I found out of Domies from other people in SGV and figured I'd stop by. The bakery is a little hole in the wall. It consists of regular baked goods like coconut buns and pineapple buns. Everything is labeled in Chinese with few in English so it would be hard for someone to figure out items to get when they can't read Chinese. The mooncakes were on the bakery rack labeled in big font, in Chinese only. It was hard to distinguish which is which. However, if you look close enough on the label of the mooncakes itself you will be able to see each type as it's labeled in Chinese and English. For customers who aren't fluent in Chinese, they might need to pick up each mooncakes to see the label in English... I bought a lotus seed paste mooncake with 1 egg for $8.75. The mooncake was very soft and you can tell it's baked fresh. The lotus was not that sweet and the egg was a descent size. Unfortunately, the egg was off to the side of the mooncake so half of it was just the lotus. I guess I should have gotten the 2 egg so it's more even :/. Overall for taste and quality, I did really enjoy it. Glad I was able to support the small local business! read more

Late review. Heard all the hype of their fresh moon cakes and the many different fillings they offers so decided to come here this year for moon cake. I bought a four double egg durian filling moon cake. I also got a mix and match box and got two double egg with durian filling and two double egg wintermelon moon cake. I love wintermelon filling. I, don't like durian but the box that I gifted, everyone loved it and said it was very durian flavored. The durian come all packaged with gift box and bag and ready for gifting. Each filling is a different price. I've also ordered the pandan flavor cake with double crispy layer. The pandan cake is very moist and soft and the crispy layer was very crispy. I called in my order in the early morning and it was ready for me to pick up in 2 hours. I also picked up their small portion of the crispy sponge cake. It was a hit with my nephews. I will definitely be back for more. They are located in the Big Saver plaza so it's inside a big parking lot but parking can still be hard cause they have a lot of retail and restaurants in the same plaza. Service was ok. I started buying the crispy cakes from Rosemead last year after being recommended by a friend. They are very well made. My parents are old and have bad teeth, so the cakes taste very soft, so I often go there to buy them. I also bought a lot of mooncakes there during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Every time I go there, the attitudes of the two shop assistants are so-so, especially the older aunt, who never smiles and always has an attitude of "you can buy it or not", but forget it, and don't want to care. A few days ago, I went to buy it again because I needed it suddenly, because I wanted to send it to a few different friends that night, so I needed 5 boxes of small packages, each box was $8. (I bought it before and cut it into 8 pieces. This time, the total amount was the same but it was cut into 6 pieces, which felt very casual, but it didn't matter) But since there was only one small box on the shelf, I asked if there were any more. As a result, the two shop assistants said that there was no more. There was only this small box, or one large box. The amount of cake in the large box is actually equivalent to the amount of 3 small boxes of cake. So I asked them if they could help me divide it into 3 small boxes? Then I bought 4 boxes, because there was no more, so I didn't eat it myself. The clerk answered that it was not possible because no one was doing it, so I asked, why not? Isn't the cake ready? The clerk said that at most she could divide it into 2 small boxes for me, and it would cost an extra $2, and each plastic box would cost $1. I said that it was okay to charge, but I needed to divide it into 3 boxes, because it was originally 3 small boxes. The older clerk insisted that it was not possible , and that I had to call them before 12 noon to buy it in the future, because the boss was still there at that time and could help me do it. At this point, I understood that the boss might usually do it to divide it into smaller boxes, and the boss would go off work after 12 noon, so if the customer who came to buy the cake again had different size requirements, the clerk should find it troublesome and be unwilling to help you pack it, even if the customer had agreed to pay for the extra plastic box. It was really speechless... The older female clerk had a poker face from beginning to end, which was the attitude of whether you wanted to buy it or not. Then the younger female clerk from Taishan with a buzz cut made a call to the cash register and finally agreed to sell me 3 extra small plastic packaging boxes for an extra $3, but she didn't pack them for me and asked me to pack them myself. I had no choice but to ask them for disposable gloves and packed them myself within 2 minutes. How difficult is it? It's just a simple matter of taking the cake out of the big paper box and putting it into the small plastic box. You are professional cake shop employees. When customers come to consume, you have to make things difficult for them and don't think about the boss. It's really outrageous. No matter how delicious the cake is, I will never go there again.
