This is probably our favorite seafood restaurant by far. My favorite is the "popcorn shrimp poboy" and fries. My husband loves the "tacklebox", so We eat here quite often. The orders are prepared fresh when you order and the staff are always nice and courteous. You order from the menu above the register and then pick your own seat. They have several flatscreen TVs to keep you entertained as you wait. We got the 6 shrimp & 6 oyster ($11.99, plus $0.99 for substituting regular french fries with their oh-so-delicious sweet potato fries), the 4 oyster & 2 grilled catfish ($9.99, plus $1.49 for substituting the french fries with a baked potato & cheese), and a bowl of seafood gumbo ($6.99). The sweet potato fries are deliciously sweet and were like a dessert for me! Everyone should sub for these instead of the regular fries. They also have fried pickles (another one of my faves)! Back to the catfish...I kept sneaking bites of my cousin's plate. These were the best grilled catfish I've ever had. The ones in Houston don't compare. My wife has never been so we made it a day trip. Read all the reviews on Catfish Charlie's and had to give it a try. It's an unassuming location, nice sized place - so I guess we caught them on a steady day. They weren't overly busy, but they were steady. My wife ordered the catfish plate, thin and crispy and I had the Tackle Box - which was 2 pieces of catfish, oysters and shrimps. The thin and crispy fillets are the truth - so say if you ordered two fillets, your really getting 5 to 6 pieces of fish out of that! The portions are good. Good cole slaw too. It's so many catfish joints across Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and North Florida it's ridiculous, but these guys have some really good fish. Here's the kicker - had so much food leftover, that we took it home in a to go box. So I had a taste for a late night catfish sandwich, took a couple of pieces of the leftover fillets and popped them in a pre-heated over @ 350 degrees - for about 5 minutes, and they tasted even better! This place is simply...very very good. It is a must stop for us when we are in town a few times per year. The fried catfish & shrimp are always great but what prompted me to actually stop and do a review was my visit today. 1) The lady working the register was so friendly and and helpful...before and after I got my take out order. Plus as I was leaving I was thanked by two other employees. 2) And...I took a gamble today on my order. I always get a fish/shrimp combo or crawfish (in season) but today I went with the grilled salmon. Oh, my! I have eaten lots of salmon in lots of different places but this was the best I've had anywhere (minus my own Guice Park recipe). Seasoned well, nice charring on the outside and the inside was perfectly pink and not over cooked. And it as a very nice 9oz or so portion. Very very good for the 10.99 cost. The lady at the register says that the tuna is equally amazing. That shall be tomorrow's order :-) And, the hushpuppies, boiled potatoes and jambalaya that came with were equally tasty. I ordered the 6 piece jumbo shrimp basket which came with 2 hush puppies and fries ($9.99) The lady taking my order was very friendly and the food was ready quite quickly. The shrimp was very tasty and the hush puppies were great. The fries were average, but I spiced them up with some of the cajun spices that were available at the table. One of my dining companions had the all-you-can-eat thin & crispy catfish platter ($12.99) and claimed that it was excellent. The portions were very large and plentiful on the catfish. It seems to have changed a bit over time, but their fried catfish is one of the best. My friend and I would order a 4 piece basket and share it. It has never disappointed. I love their tartar sauce while adding a few spritz of hot sauce - it's what works for me. I remember reading it made the best of Delta 2010, and deservedly so. I want to tell you we have ate alot of seafood across the United States on our travels and i am so happy that we gound this place. We didnt know exactly what to expect but from the pictures on here it looked very good and promising. We went in and i ordered all you can eat oysters and my husband ordered all you can eat shrimp. Let me telllll you they know how to make and serve some seafood. He started with the fried shrimp which was delicious but then he switched to the boiled shrimp to try and omggggg.. There Jumbo shrimp is JUMBO!!!!They was so fresh, huge,meaty, hot, and beyond any shrimp we have ever ate. Very worth the money!!!! While in Monroe for the day, we decided to try Catfish Charlie's after reading reviews here. When we first arrive, we noticed there were a ton of cars in the parking lot. Inside we were probably fifth in line, but the line moved very quickly. A very nice girl took our order and then we got settled in. We have two small children and decided to eat outside on the patio. The weather was perfect. Even being outside, a waiter came by several times to check on everyone. The food was delicious. We all got a catfish basket and my husband had fried shrimp as well. He declared it the best shrimp ever. We all ate way more than we should have and left very happy. The price was reasonable for the food.
