Sometime back in 2021, I and a group of other retired military veterans, started eating at the Cateran's Buffet. we met there every Thursday morning at 11:30 AM and always sat at a big table at the front of the restaurant close to the entrance and always had good food and plenty of room. I and my wife would eat there on Sundays sometime after church also and we would sit at one of the square tables and had plenty of room, and the food was the exact same food as they would have on Thursdays. This food usually consisted of fried chicken, shredded ham, and fried fish. And there were always numerous vegetables to choose from. the tables we sat at, if you had more than four people had a little flap that you could raise up all the way around and it made the table, bigger and round where you could sit several people. Plenty Of room for everyone. Well, after the Veterans and I had eaten there several months we got tired of eating the same food every week so we decided on September 30, 2021 to venture out to other restaurants. Every week we would go to a different restaurant in the Greenville area. Sometime during this, Cateran's closed their business. We found out that they were reopening under new management on December 7 of 2023 and so we decided to go back and see if it was as good or better or what. So we showed up at 11:15 AM on December 7, 2023 and were the first ones in line to be served. At that time we thought the food was just as good if not better than the previous owners. However, they had put in these real small tables that were very crowded for eight people. The main problem was they were not deep enough so if you sat at the table with the tray, both trays would be touching each other and hanging over the edges. Very uncomfortable. I started to write a review then but decided to wait and go back later to see if they may have changed out that furniture And also to take a measuring tape with me. Today I and my wife and two friends of ours went back for Sunday lunch. Most of the food was good. However, I had pickle beets that had a real funny taste, and my friend had the peach cobbler, which had a really funny taste. I would give them a four star rating for the taste of the food. However, these tables were ridiculously small. We felt like we had been put at the children's table at a family gathering. I brought my tape measure out and measured the width and the depth of the table we were sitting at. it was 42 inches wide, and only 17 inches deep. Bear in mind the trays we had were 14 inch deep so that meant we were touching trays and hanging off the edges. We decided to move to another table beside us which was a little better. It was 30 inches deep which allowed room to have our trays on the table and not hang over the edge of the table. The lady that was bussing the tables looked at me like what the heck are you doing and so I explained to her about how the tables were way too small for the trays and her answer was well, These were the tables that were in the restaurant when we started renting it. I didn't argue with her. I knew better, but I just said OK whatever you say. we did notice that we got there at prime lunchtime 12:30 PM on Sunday and they were not very many people there and the whole time we were there the restaurant never did get over half full. I really think they need to get rid of those junk tables and put in something more comfortable and maybe they will get their business back again. As for me, and my other fellow veterans and my family, we will not be going back again until and unless they get tables big enough to sit at and be comfortable.
Also, the price of the food has gone up quite a bit since the original Cateran's Buffet.
But I can't really blame them for that because I know the price of food and everything else has gone up over the last three years and so they have to make a living . Also, the people that work there are very nice. I wish them well. read more
